Having had a great meal and service in the past, I bought two, £70.00 gift vouchers for my family for Christmas. I wanted to use them for a family celebration meal, only to be told I could only use 1 voucher per table. They have had our £140.00 since Christmas. Why then can't we spend it in one go? Is it as good as cash, surely? I am very disappointed that they have had my cash since Christmas and now I want to spend it, the restrictions prevent this. I am not aware of any other company having such restrictions. My advice is not to buy gift vouchers for this establishment as it is tricky to retrieve your cash.

We were meeting up with family coming from Bristol and us from Worcestershire on Sunday 11th May. Caught in traffic delay due to accident on M5 south which made us more than half an hour late. Our table was kept. We had a lovely Sunday lunch. Portions were very generous. Lemon meringue and cream was delicious. The staff were great and very helpful with advice a for gluten

We were asked to site outside because the tables were booked, after sitting outside surrounded by ashtrays full of cigarette stubs for half an hour. No one turned up in the area we were asked to leave. The other area inside was full of people eating and dogs. Not a good way to treat customers who only want a drink.

Exceptional Sunday lunch for six. This was our first time at the Queen's Head as we live near Birmingham and my sister was visiting home from Canada and was staying in Cirencester. We wanted somewhere that wasn't too far for us all to get too and it had to be a Sunday Roast as it's the thing she misses most. We were all genuinely blown a way with the whole experience. The service was attentive but not overbearing and everyone we had interaction with was pleasant, well informed and polite. The atmosphere was 'buzzing and busy' but we could still enjoy a conversation without having to shout. The food however was the real star of the show. Most of us had the TRIO of roasts that was simply divine. The meat was top-quality, the veg cooked to perfection, the Yorkshire pudding big enough to wear as a hat and the gravy was so good we asked for more and were given a huge gravy boat filled to the brim. If my wife could have -she would have taken a bath in it! Even though we live over an hour away, we will definitely be back, for the best roast in the midlands!

Entered the pub at 1.25pm and went to sit down for lunch. A waitress came over and said ' can I help you' in a voice intimating the exact opposite. She went on to tell us they were closing at 2pm and no more lunches were being made. Not even a sandwich. Not sure if she was having a bad day, but if this the standard of service generally provided, steer clear.

On April 6th two friends and myself went for Sunday lunch. We are in our nineties. The owner was abusive, refused to serve us desert and threatened to phone the police. I am mystified as to WHY we were treated to hostile and degrading behavior. Perhaps the owner is a victim of her own success and stressed out of any civility. And was it ageism? She obviously has a very good chef. And lovely wait staff. I wonder if she treats them to her nasty way.

We arrived at six and were promptly served for drinks and given menus. I had pint of Butty Bach, which was a good pale ale. I ordered the soup of the day (broccoli and stilton), and my wife ordered prawn cocktail. The starters really let the whole experience down. The soup was plentiful but was very thin no body to it. The prawn cocktail again was very large but was mainly lettuce and some tiny prawns. Both starters were not value for money. The main meals were excellent I had the breast of chicken and my wife the lamb. Both were huge portions, and we both struggled to finish. The mains were really good comfort food as well as being very flavour some. We came out feeling happy and sad of our dinner. Very poor and expensive starters but value for money and tasty main courses.

Our second visit in as many weeks but this time for lunch rather than dinner. The pub is clearly family run and Donna, as the landlady, is the 'ringmaster'. Give yourself time to dwell over the menu because, like us, you'll soon see reasons for another visit. Unpretentious food cooked and presented with obvious love. Ensure you leave enough room for dessert, the homemade banoffee pie is just superb. You've been warned!

Many years since I had visited here and recently heard good things, so visited with some French visitors. It was excellent - staff were friendly and helpful, service was a little slow, but nothing major and suited the atmosphere of our visit - so no complaint. The food was really good. 3 out of the 5 of us opted for the Longford Lamb - and none of us managed to finish it, and we are relatively big guys with healthy appetites. But quality was super as well as quantity. I will return and my company will use this place more often for sure.

If you’re looking for a Sunday roast that will make you reconsider ever eating one again, The Queen’s Head is the place to be. What should have been a comforting meal turned into an exercise in endurance—of patience, poor service, and culinary mediocrity. Service: The owner, who carried herself with the frazzled intensity of someone managing a particularly unruly flock of angry birds, seemed determined to ensure no one, including her staff, had a pleasant time. We were reminded no fewer than eight times how much time we had left at our table—never mind the 45-minute wait for our food. Her grip on control extended beyond just rushing customers; she hovered over the card reader like it contained state secrets, seemingly unable to trust her teenage staff with something as complex as processing a bill. The whole place had the air of a business that cycles through undertrained young employees rather than investing in a competent team—not that I blame anyone for leaving. Food: The roast potatoes were so rock-hard they could have been repurposed for medieval warfare. Cutting into them was not so much an act of dining as it was a battle of wills. The meat, meanwhile, was a monument to dryness, so overcooked that I suspect even a pint of gravy wouldn’t have saved it. Not that I’d know—I ordered mine without gravy, and after sending it back when it came out with, they took it away, clearly scraped it off and re-plated it…as if I wouldn’t notice the streaks of congealed deception left behind. As for seasoning, I can only assume the kitchen is operating under strict rationing orders because salt and flavor were nowhere to be found. Atmosphere: Between the rushed service, lack of warmth, and the overwhelming sense that no one—staff or customer—wanted to be there, the ambiance was about as inviting as the food. A Sunday roast should feel indulgent and comforting. Here, it felt like a begrudging obligation. Would I return? Only if I had a personal vendetta against my own taste buds. Otherwise, I’d sooner eat a frozen meal at home—at least that would come with a guarantee of salt.

I took some friends on Saturday evening and we all had a fantastic home cooked meal. As expected, we had to wait for a freshly cooked meal to be cooked- no microwave food here. The selection choice on the menu was just perfect-instead of list after list of foods, it was a good selection of carefully chosen dishes for each course. We were all very pleased with our choices and the food was excellently cooked, presented and tasted fantastic. Very generous portions indeed for a very fair price. The staff were very attentive without fussing over us all night. The owner who also served us and chatted to us on our exit was very friendly and warming throughout the evening. We will most definitely be back. Thank you for a wonderful evening.

Very strange visit to the Queen’s Head! Staying at the Premier Inn down the road, it was a quick and easy walk to get there. Were promptly sat and given menus. After a minute or two were asked about our drinks order, and soon after received them. As soon as the drinks were down we were asked for our main order, which we asked for a few more minutes before being told the kitchen was about to close and we had to order there and then. Never heard of a kitchen closing at 7:15pm but we went along and ordered. The Brie and Camembert were nice enough to start, nothing particularly wrong but nothing standout. Then came the mains, the beef feather blade tasted great, however the other three meats were nearly inedible, probably the stogiest and least tasteful pork 2 of the party had ever eaten, and was left after 1 bite. Staff were holding glasses by the brim which wasn’t great to see, but were friendly enough. Wouldn’t return as quite pricey with poor quality food and rushed service.

Disappointed! Food is great but service was a major let down. We were booked for 1pm and didn't get our first course until gone 1.30pm. There were sizeable gaps between some orders for the table coming out, meaning some had finished their course before others even got there's. The biggest issue was at 2.45pm, music went off, they came round clearing rubbish while we were still eating our dessert. The owner/manager actually had the audacity to tell us they were closing whilst a couple of people were literally still swallowing their food.

Had a lovely evening here with friends. We had the Christmas 2 course menu and it was excellent value. Our starters were soup, prawn cocktails and baked Camembert followed by traditional Christmas turkey dinner and finished with warm mince pies and filter coffees. Very generous portions and delicious. Went here on a recommendation . Took staff for our Christmas meal . Booked a table weeks ago then received a call last Friday saying the pre orders were not in , was not ever made aware we had to pre order . Arrived everything running smoothly then starters came out we were missing one I was told only two ham hock in the pre order I had a copy with me it was three . Food was ok , hot . Christmas menu is advertised as up to three courses with coffee and mince pies at the end . Our table was booked for 1 , received desserts at 2.20 . When two of us asked for coffee the waitress pulled a face and said “you know we close at three?” Coffee came out it was cold . No one else offered coffee no mince pies At three landlady came up to our table and started collecting empties and told us we had five minutes drinking up time !!! We left having paid a £240 bill We won’t be back . Understand it’s Christmas and busy and people need a break , but to expect 8 people to eat three courses and coffee and mince pies in under two hours is ridiculous . Shame as we had heard good things

First time dining here after hearing lots of wonderful things. Booked for special birthday, Greeting was ok on arrival, we were shown to our table and given menus, immediately before we’d even sat down we were asked what we wanted to drink?! The area we were sat in had about 5 tables and was very compact especially as they were all full by the end of our meal, it wasn’t private at all you could hear everyone’s conversations, which we didn’t like. The food arrived about 30 minutes after we’d ordered and it was all really lovely. Steak cooked to perfection etc Unfortunately overall the place just didn’t do it for us, we wouldn’t return.

The food was really good. I've got a good appetite and each time I've been here I've been beaten, unable to finish my plate which is incredibly pleasing. It's always busy with a good atmosphere. I'n the politest way, my advice to the landlady however is to tone it down. She's a perfectly pleasant lady but full on and a bit in your face with trying to big up and 'sell' the place to you. It comes across as 2nd hand car salesman pushy. I'm all for small talk when orders are taken, but ease up with telling me how great you are and let me decide for myself. (PS, not just a personality clash, my guests have all felt the same way). That aside, would I come back, yes, absolutely. I've been a few times and the food is enough to get me to return anytime.

My recent dining experience at Queens Head restaurant was extremely disappointing. We were here with friends to give a send off to my dad and make him have a true british pub experience. we chose this for good ambience and good food reviews. The lady owner who served our table was incredibly rude and disrespectful. She seemed disinterested in in having us. We were told there werent any starter options like evrn chips and garlic bread all though we could see the next table being served quite well with starters and other options. Friends ordered from the limited menu. when few others tried to taste chips, she came screaming and fuming saying food cannot be shared. when asked she said, this was a british way of serving. With this negative treatment, we really felt uncomfortable with their racist behaviour. Overall, our experience at Queens Head restaurant was terrible leaving a very bad taste in the mouth, and we will not be returning to this place ever.

Went with mates to send off one of their Dad home to India. We met a rather unfriendly welcome by the landlady. Her behaviour got worse as we started ordering food. I then started remembering her face and unfriendly mannerisms from before when I had visited with my wife and 2 children some years ago. She was 10 times worse this time! Really hostile, rude and obnoxious! She certainly seemed to be discriminatory as she seemed to be ok with another big group of white english family. Was it to do with race or gender? Whatever it is, I will never go back there!

We visited the Queens Head Pub in Gloucester this evening for what was supposed to be a warm and memorable farewell party, but sadly, the experience left much to be desired. We had booked a table for 8 well in advance, but two additional people joined us last minute, something that’s not uncommon at gatherings. Instead of accommodating this small change with a bit of flexibility, the lady serving us acted more like a strict hostel warden than a friendly host. The attitude was brusque, unwelcoming and lacked hospitality completely. Rather than taking care of us with a smile, we were met with a sour expression and curt comments about our party size. While they arranged for a table for 10 after some discussion, soon it was announced that food choices were limited to mains only ( at 8 pm). No sides or starters were available, very strange and unlike other pubs in and around. Adding to this, when one of the friends picked a chips from another’s plate we were immediately told off saying food cannot be shared and an extra service charge will be added. Instead of helping us find a solution, made us feel like we were an inconvenience. The rudeness didn't stop there; throughout the evening, this person seemed impatient. It genuinely felt like we were being chastised for daring to enjoy ourselves. The food itself was average at best, but any enjoyment we might have had was completely overshadowed by the poor service. At a time when we wanted to celebrate and relax, we were made to feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. A little courtesy and flexibility go a long way in hospitality, and unfortunately, Queens Head seemed to lack both. If you're looking for a pub with a friendly atmosphere and accommodating staff, I’d recommend steering clear of this one. We left disappointed and regretting choosing this venue for such an important occasion.

Arrived at 1pm for our already booked table . Finally we were given a menu and we duly ordered our drinks and food . Had to wait a while for the food and noticed that people who had arrived after us were being served before us . The food when it did arrive was excellent and could not be faulted . However when we came to order our desserts we were told that the kitchen was now closed. When we enquired as to why we had not been informed of this earlier so that we could have placed our order for desserts in advance we were told not to be rude and that rudeness would not be tolerated. Still rather mystified as to why what seemed a reasonable question was deemed as rude . We were then told in no uncertain terms that we should have looked at the internet. Why would we look at the internet when we were already in the place ? Paid the bill and left leaving rather bemused by it all . Never been anywhere before where we have already started a meal and told that we cannot continue to have a dessert or coffee . Patricia

A lovely meal and friendly staff. From memory, the toilets are on the ground floor. There are a few steps to negotiate inside though, as the whole of the food service area is on different levels. Having said that, I walk with a stick and could cope with the different levels with help. I didn't notice any designated disabled parking bays in the car park but it is a large fairly flat car park. I think that it could do with being resurfaced though. There are now tables outside in the car park.

When entering the restaurant, we were ignored by the front of house staff (young kids, 4 of them), who were more interested in talking to each other than welcoming us. We were eventually seated, then asked what drinks we would like without being given a menu. When the menu eventually came, it was rolled up paper like a child had been playing with it. After 10 minutes they informed us they had ran out of the particular drinks. The food menu came in a crinkled plastic sleeve. Simple cold starter and pate on toast took 35 mins. Prawn cocktail seemed to had been frozen cheap prawns, which were bland. Main course was a lot better, though the coleslaw was runny. Older members of staff were polite. Younger members of staff seemed like they didn't want to be there and not very attentive. Mrs was still eating and they wanted to take our plates and seemed like they wanted us to leave, this was only at 21.10hrs. Plus we had over heard staff talking about how bad the evening was as they'd not received any tips. I used to dine regularly here years ago and the staff were always very welcoming, happy and attentive. Seems like the younger staff need a lot of communication training and especially hospitality training. Shame, as always had great experiences in the past.

When I confronted the man who booked it, he was very very rude, and denied that he had booked anything.when I asked him to look at the booking in a bit more detail, he refused and was muttering obscenities at me. I will never be going back to this place ever again, and I will be advising all my customers to do the same.

Recently went for Sunday lunch, very busy all tables full, but service still very good food amazing lovely atmosphere only downside was 1 person dressed as an elf came in and asked could he have a drink so sat at bar and ordered. He failed to mention that he was a member of a large group all in fancy dress who gave him 10 minutes before they followed him in. Assume it was a running group or something, could be wrong. They were told there wasn’t space for them, our table was close to bar and they would have been on top of us. Feel it was correct for the landlady to refuse service, feel there was no need for the group to get verball Could be the reviewer who says snobby staff

Wasn't the experience I expected and as before, my meal wasn't all as I would have liked, my sprouts were frozen, hot on the outside cold on the inside, made it worse because was lied to by the staff, saying they weren't frozen, when one honest barstaff said(not knowing) they couldn't get any fresh ones, and weren't aware we had already spotted they were frozen, lesson to be learnt don't lie, we know a uncooked frozen sprout! Going to stay in next year 😌

Apparently. It’s a restaurant, not a bar. Even though the sign says different. Was refused service for a drink, can only assume for snobby reasons. It’s a shame, during Covid bars like this were ‘struggling’ and insisting on tax payers help! Today, they don’t want our money! Apparently I’m rude for pointing out it was ‘their loss’?! Only go if you want food, it’s not a bar anymore it seems……

Christmas menu - nice choice, good quality with lots of flavour. If you have a large appetite you may benefit from a few more vegetables but adequate for most people.

Background: We were given a Virgin Experience Days two-night Cotswolds break with dinner for two at the White Hart Inn. The current retail value of this package is £249. I’ll start with the very few positives of our stay: The lady who checked us in was friendly. The breakfast was good. The bed was comfortable. We checked in at the designated time, and the friendly lady behind the bar gave us our key. She told us our room was in the building next door and gave us directions to the entrance. We found the entrance, which appeared to be the lobby for a function room. There was a small door off to the side, and our room was up the stairs. Upon entering, it felt like stepping into a university hall of residence. The carpets were worn and dirty, the doors to the rooms were battered and grimy, and there was a distinct unpleasant smell in the air. Our room door was so small it could easily be mistaken for a broom cupboard, but we entered, hopeful that first impressions can sometimes be misleading. Unfortunately, we were wrong. Walking into the room felt like going back in time to the 1980s. There were random blue plates on the walls, the furniture was old and battered, and the carpet was dirty and stained. There were layers of dust on the (tiny) TV and most other surfaces, and the room felt generally unclean. Unfortunately, the bathroom was just as bad. It had black mould around the shower tray, cobwebs and fluff everywhere, and a completely impractical design with very limited space to place toiletries. Worst of all, there was a strong and pungent smell of damp and mustiness. The room did have a balcony, so we stepped out to get some air. The view of the surrounding area was very pretty so all was not lost but like everything else, the balcony was in a state of disrepair. It turns out the building we were staying in was a function room, as we initially suspected. There was a comedy night scheduled for that evening, so we bought tickets and went along at the start time. The show itself was terrible, and we left at the second interval. However, I suspect the comedians and the event were not directly related to the pub, so I won’t comment further on that. We decided to cut our losses and head back to the room for an early night. Sadly, this was impossible due to the noise from the function room. In hindsight, we didn’t need to buy tickets as we could hear every word and the accompanying laughter from our room. The noise continued until about 11 p.m., after which we finally had some peace and quiet. The final straw came when we turned the lights off. Near the door, there was what I can only assume is an emergency light. It had an LED that was so bright it bathed the whole room in a green glow, making it look like something from a Halloween party. The next day, we went for breakfast, which, as mentioned, was very good. It was great to be able to order anything from the menu. That evening, we planned to use our £60 dining allowance included with the experience. My wife had a shower and started getting ready, but when she tried to dry her hair, she discovered that the hairdryer didn’t work. I took it to the bar and informed the staff. They confirmed it wasn’t working, and the man I spoke to said there was nothing he could do as they had no spares. I explained that my wife was upstairs with wet hair and that we needed a replacement. He checked several cupboards but came back empty-handed. We went down for dinner. My wife ordered the Steak Frites, and I ordered the fish and chips with a side of sourdough bread and salted butter. The steak was extremely salty, and the bread and butter turned out to be chopped-up ciabatta with a small bowl of margarine. The fish and chips, however, were very good. After this, we decided we’d had enough. We went back to the room, packed our things and checked out. We were obviously disappointed we had to sacrifice our second night (and breakfast the next day) but we simply couldn’t face staying any longer.

I frequently visit the Wheatpieces for a family meal out with my children. As always the staff are fantastic. It's become the norm now that we when we walk in the staff know exactly what's required (Usually the very lovely Bry) and get the carbohydrates book put ready for us as my eldest is a type 1 diabetic so needs to know the right amount of carbs for her insulin requirements. I can't thank the staff enough for making sure everything is done to spec and making sure that my daughters food is exactly how it needs to be for her. the chef has always been fab at accommodating my other children as they are also fussy eaters 😅. Thanks guys for always being amazing with us ❤️
