Food was good. Service a bit haphazard which was strange since for a while we were almost the only customers. Hard to comment on atmosphere since it was quite empty. Main turn-off was you have to pay for car park! It was 2.40 for two hours. They do take it off the bill when you pay but it’s a bit of a faff.

We ate here today and the food was simply sublime. It was the best pub meal we have had in a long time. I had the pork belly, with buttery mash, roasted carrots, charred hispi cabbage and gravy. The pork was super tender and the outside was crisp and juicy. The mash was very buttery indeed and the carrots sweet and tender and don't get me started on the cabbage! Others in my party had the burgers (each one was different) and said they were fabulous. We rounded the meal off with a Pistachio tart which was wonderful in every way. The staff were very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. Would definitely recommend a stop for a bite here. We will be back to the forest in September so see you guys then!

Good food and service but the building could probably do with a bit of fixing up inside and out. I guess this can be a problem for a chain where managers are focused on day-to-day operations rather than upkeep.

We’ve lived in Burley for 2 years - and never visited, sometimes assuming it was closed from the outside: Called today on the off chance and booked for dinner - and it did not disappoint! Superb food (think great quality home cooked gastro-pub) - not a huge menu but everything was fantastic. Service was excellent and the setting and atmosphere was spot on! Thank you - we now have a great local! 👌🏼

Lovely food and service from Eleanor - we will be back! Well we went back for Sunday Roast and wow! Roast Rib of Beef was amazing! Jamie the landlord is a gem and one to keep hold of- Brewery take note!! So friendly, great atmosphere and nothing was too much trouble, it’s not just customer service, it’s customer care and that’s what makes a difference, by the way thanks for the Espresso Martini. Would I recommend this place…absolutely, whilst Jamie and his team are there! We’ve been coming to Burley for many years and have now found a real welcoming ‘local’ home from home.

* New updated review * My wife are fairly regular visitors to The Queen's Head but we've never been there for a Sunday roast until last week (27th April 2025). Having booked a table during the week we arrived early and had a drink in the beer garden as it was a beautiful day before making our way indoors to be seated for our meal. The staff were friendly and cheerful (a big shout out to Harry) and we were made to feel welcome. The food was absolutely incredible. The slow cooked rib of beef was something else - I honestly can't recommend it enough. My wife, who's pretty picky about, well, everything to be honest, declared it was possibly the best roast she's ever had. If you're in the area pop in. If you're not it's worth the journey.

Went down today on the spur of the moment thing due to the wife nagging we don't spend enough time together so went to new forest and popped down to burley one of my ll time fav places. And came here for a meal and wow simply amazing food was fantastic and very well priced. I had steak and ale pie with veg and mash. And nice pot of gravy. Perfect. The wife had chicken burger and chips. And she loved it. Staff were all so friendly and made us feel very welcome. Highly reccomend a visit and taste some quality food. If your in the area. Thank you so much for making our visit very pleasurable. It was so busy there and they were all rushing around crazy. Could help with few more staff serving the drinks. That's was my only gripe. But waitress got ours in the end because couldn't even get near the bar. But didn't ruin our day. So thank you all so so much will deffo b visiting again and again.

Lovely pub in this lovely village. We had booked a table and was greeted by wonderful experienced staff. Gave our order. Meals arrived but the signature burger i ordered was really not upto how it was advertised. The rib on top of burger was just a lump of fat and also no sauce. The lovely staff asked if all was OK. I showed her the fat but I said don't worry. She offered to change it but I said it's OK. She obviously reported this and the manager . He came and said he would change the meal. I didn't want fuss but he said he wanted me to be happy. When he returned with meal it was just perfect and how I imagined it should be. After enjoyable meal and drinks we went to pay bill. I have a blue light card which wasn't accepted when it should have been as today Saturday was not a bank Holiday. Again the manager came to the rescue and sorted it. We got our discount. I would like to thank the staff and also the manager ,( sorry I didn't get his name). We were treated lovely and looked after. The manager is very professional. Hope to come back sometime

Very average food, unfortunately. My husband had fish znd chips which literally looked like it was thrown on the plate, and the smallest portion of peas we've ever seen! I had roast pork, pork and crackling was beautiful (I think that saved it) very small amount of veg, and such tiny plates tht it was just all piled on top of itself. We won't go back, which is a shame because it's a nice pub.

The Queens Head have got it all just right. Loads of character and atmosphere with log fires and many separate 'rooms' to create a measure of privacy without losing the overall ambience. And then the food was superb from start to finish - beautifully cooked, delicious, piping hot and attractively presented. We all cleared our plates each of the three courses, a rarity for us. To top it off the service from Petra was 100% with just the right balance of awareness and attention. Five stars really well deserved. Our thanks to everyone, all round excellence.

We had a Sunday roast dinner this past autumn and it wasn’t the best. The food was nice but the portions were extremely small. We only had a couple small potatoes and not a lot of veg. It was expensive for how small the quantity was. We’ve had more food for less money at several other pubs for a Sunday roast. The waiter spilt a glass of lemonade on my lap. Accidents happen and it’s understandable but frustrating. The nose and atmosphere in the pub was extremely loud.

Review I had a fantastic experience at the Queen’s Head! The Fish and Chips and the Steak Ale Pie were absolutely amazing—perfectly cooked and bursting with flavor. The service was impeccable; the staff were attentive and friendly, making the visit even more enjoyable. The prices are very reasonable for the quality of the food and experience. The pub itself is beautiful and comfortable, with a cozy atmosphere that makes it the perfect spot to relax and enjoy a meal. My only small critique would be the playlist—it didn’t quite match the otherwise wonderful ambiance. Overall, a highly recommended spot for great food and excellent service. I’ll definitely be back!

Having viewed the menu of various eateries in Burley before we booked, we chose The Queens Head for the promising vegetarian options. And we were not disappointed. We both had the garden plot medley for starter and were so impressed by its presentation, flavours and textures. We also both chose the mushroom and ale pie with mash for main. The pastry of the pie was really good, everything was piping hot and seasoned well. On top of the good quality food, Jamie the manager was very warm, friendly and attentive and his enthusiasm and professionalism will see this pub do really well as more than just an average locals pub in the heart of Burley.

This used to be our go to stop for food and drinks when in Burley. We made an impromptu stop this time, as just wanted some quick snacks and drinks for the kids. The staff acted as if we were bothering them, which appears to be a trend having read other recent reviews. However, I do sympathise when they seem to have a manager shouting and hollering at them from behind the bar. It must make the day quite stressful. When the attitude was questioned we had an apology with an excuse that it was busy, and they didnt have enough staff. There were about a dozen other patrons in the place and I saw 3 more staff behind the bar. I'm guessing there was also a chef, plus the manager, so not sure how this constitutes busy. It was lunch time, and hardly any options on the menu were available, so this obviously isn't being managed well either. We ordered food and drinks. The food came out and was eaten before we even had sight of a single drink. The food was alright, although some things stated on the menu were swapped out without even mentioning it, so guessing they were suffering with stock issues even on what they could serve. The kids were complaining about the drinks. 3 requests for the drinks and a trip to the bar to find them and still no sight, and just the same excuse of how busy they were. Again, 3 bar staff to do drinks and seemingly nobody at the bar ordering anything else... So not sure why the delay. Eventually when we gave up and felt we wouldn't be getting drinks I went to the bar to pay and as if by magic the drinks were all just being poured. Bear in mind we had already ordered food, received food and eaten food. So this must have been 30+ minutes after ordering the drinks. The staff looked shocked when I said I don't want them and would only settle the food bill and leave. Not sure what's going on under this new ownership / management, but it's not working. In contrast we tried another restaurant / bar close by this weekend and it was a lovely experience. Polite staff. Drinks out before food. Nothing could have been a problem for them. Will be frequenting other places in this area in future until the Queen's Head can somehow return to its former glory and service levels. But it has a long way to go.

We came across the Queens Head and thought we’d try it as we’re on holiday and it looks lovely from the outside. On top of that it’s dog friendly so was exactly what we were looking for. Upon arrival we were not welcomed at all by the girl on the bar. She was sat on her laptop and made it seem like a huge effort to get up to serve us. We said hello and in return she stared blankly back at us with no hello or at least a smile. We then asked for some drinks (4 adults) and she ID one of us. Being 27 he didn’t have any ID on him so she refused the sale. I’ve worked in hospitality since I was 15 so I know how important it is to ID people, however, if your going to ID someone, do not patronise them, do not be rude and don’t become short with everyone else. That being that we left feeling uncomfortable and unwelcome. I am utterly shocked that she thought it was acceptable to speak to customers like that. Working front of house, you’d expect her to try a bit harder.

Had a great meal here and drinks on with a group of 6 of us. Very well looked after and no issues to speak of at all, standard pub grub was decent. We came back the second night with a group of about 25 of us (work trip) all in a very lively mood and wanting to have a few beers. This was clearly not the standard Thursday evening for this bar, but the manager and his team were great and kept the drinks come, and stayed open as late as they were legally able to as we was having such a great time. We all had an amazing evening, and these guys helped make it special.

Went there for the first time and had the starter - Garden Plot Medley plus lemonade. Great taste and would recommend. Great price. Went back again, booked online the table for 12pm but had to cancel because of the traffic. Re booked for 12.30pm. Duly turned up, had soup to start off with followed by a duo of chicken and a beef and ale pie. Lovely. Drank orange juice with lemonade.

Great welcome and fast, delicious food for our party of 24 x people. Landlady and Team were wonderfully helpful with every request. They just need more crockery and glasses! Be back next year.

Hannah and team fantastic friendly service. Room was ideal, warm, quiet, clean and modern. Rural location but close to Isle of Wight ferry and Lymington town centre.

Family meal with 2 young children. The pub itself is pleasant and menu has a good choice of meals. Kids Mac n Cheese meals were great, no issues there. I ordered the pork belly which was disappointing as the majority of the slice was just fat, very little meat. While the portion looks decent, it isn't and at £25 the whole dish was well overpriced for what you get. My partner ordered the lasagne at £17 which was also underwhelming, the portion was closer to that of a children's portion and unfortunately tasted quite bland. We did have deserts, as the kids had been promised. The crumble was okay, but nothing more, the sticky toffee pudding was very very dry and hard. While the kids ate there portion my partner only had a couple of spoons and couldn't eat the rest. During our meal we did not get asked once if we would like any more drinks, and the time it took from finishing our mains to clearing the plates was over 30 mins, with a further 20 mins for the desert. Such a shame, the reviews do not match the experience we had.
