Queen's Arms in South Hams

Objective: find a local pub with food on a Tuesday night early holiday season. Great little find, I guess we would have needed to book in holiday season, but we rocked up, to find a table. Great choice of ale from Otter brewery, food choice was varied but mainly traditional pub food with a specials board, we had steak, home made pies and kids sausages, all came with chips or jacket potatoes (heath option was needed), good sized portions shame about the side veg!! If you were hungry after your main be prepared for puddings, option of ice cream/ custard/ clotted cream…, very well priced, warm welcome and calm atmosphere. More than glad we made the visit.

Food was just thrown into the deep fat fryer or the microwave.. I ordered a 10oz rump steak that was as tough as shoe leather I left 5 oz on the plate just grizzle, my wife had chicken curry which was presented like a bowl of slop!!! I spoke to the chef who told me it wasn’t his fault? I pointed out that he sourced his meat from the local butcher why not take it up with him? I eventually got an apology from him and a rather pathetic offer of a free steak next time I’m passing through…. No thanks, do you self a favour and try the tower pub a little further on they take a bit more pride in their food.

This pub was very traditional and had a very cosy vibe. The food was absolutely fantastic and all home cooked which me and my partner both loved. The staff were very kind and a nice selection of local drinks which I loved. If I lived closer this would definitely be my local!

We visited for lunch and it was superb. Very friendly welcome and atmosphere. The food was all very good as usual - it never disappoints!

Went for a walk from our holiday let and found our way to The Queen's Arms, unfortunately they were closing after lunch so after a hastily drank cider we went for a walk around Slapton Ley which was recommended by the Landlord. We came back 3 hours later for dinner. The food was delicious, I had the chicken and ham pie, it was the best pie I've ever eaten in a pub, the pastry was light and crumbly and the chunks of meat were huge and swimming in a very tasty gravy. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his handmade burger and the local cider we had was crisp and refreshing. The pub itself is a proper, old fashioned country pub the type of which is becoming all too rare. The people were incredibly friendly. We will definitely try and stop by again.

Wow took a mate out for bike ride we parked our in the car park and went into the pub lovely place and the food was on another level fresh cooked , tasty with lots of food for a empty tum, the staff were polite and nothing was to much trouble, sure to return soon, thanks guys 😁

The pub was "our local" where we were staying; but we only went once. It was very busy; but the accepted dogs which was great and we were able to find a little space for two of us and a big dog without booking. The steak and kidney pie was nice; with shortcrust pasty maybe not as nice as puff BUT; and it is for me a real BUT....served with TINNED CARROTS. For that one reason and one reason only; we did not return.

Walked to Slapton and stopped for lunch at the Queens Arms. I have to say they have the most beautiful walled beer garden I have ever been in. The food and drink were excellent as well.

A small village supported by the history on Operation Tiger, it gets a lot of visitors supporting the locals who normally ignore the campers up the road. Food Ok , Beer looked after a small carpark but its a small village. come in the winter and it will be more welcoming on a wet and windy day I feel sure.

This pub is a nice little walk from Torcross along Slapton Ley and up the hill a bit. The food is excellent and the service good. There is also a lovely beer garden to sit in if the weather is good with lots of little private areas so you can sit somewhere quiet. I had the steak pudding which was really good although as a Northerner I like to have plenty of gravy on my steak pudding and this comes with none but I think having gravy on something that contains gravy is not a Southern thing. The chips are lovely too, nice and crispy. My husband had the hot chicken curry which had a very good flavour to it, although perhaps not very hot. The menu is very varied so I think you could eat here quite a few times without running out of things to try. I would definitely recommend this pub for a meal and I think it was good value for money too.

We were staying in a holiday cottage in Slapton Village.We arranged to.meet our daughter,Son-in-law and Grandaughter for a reunion as they now live in Brixham South Devon.Booked a table five for Sunday lunch.We also have two small dogs.The pub itself is very dog friendly.We were a bit disappointed they were not offering A Roast Dinner.We were informed the Tradditional Roast Dinners are not on offer until Octber.Me and my husband had fish and chips ,very tasty,batter on the fish was light and crispy.Good sized portions.We enjoyed listening to.a solo singer with a guitar,with some easy listening songs.There was a weekend cider celebration on with lots of different ciders on offer.Great Atmosphere, friendly staff.Would reccomend.
