Such a great find. Lovely, clean room in a quiet spot. Continental breakfast was perfect with some great little touches such as homemade jam. Well worth the money and I hope to come back again soon.

Picture the scene. It’s sometime during the summer, my wife and I were sat with another couple one evening, enjoying some nice wine, discussing a weekend away. The Cotswolds was suggested as we knew it was easy to get to from where we live in the middle of Essex. Reviews on booking.com for The Queen Matilda were good so decision made. About 24 hours before departure we realised The Cotswolds is big and The Queen Matilda is nearly in Wales, a long way from Essex! But the 4 hour drive and all the Friday evening M25 traffic was so worth it! Jo, James and the team made us very welcome, our rooms were lovely, we stress tested the local beer and wine list (passed with flying colours!) but it was the food that stole the show! Given we knew we’d arrive late eating at the pub on Friday evening made sense. But we enjoyed dinner so much we booked a table for Saturday night as well. And we ate some of the dishes we’d eaten the evening before they were so good!

I wonder if we ate at the same place….impressed by the reviews we booked Sunday lunch….sadly we experienced gastropub prices but mediocre food. Two round slices of lamb each. Mine was OK, my partner’s was gristly. A literal teaspoon each of cauliflower cheese (meal plated up, no side dish of vegetables). Woefully undercooked/inedible carrots and cabbage. But hey loads of potatoes crammed on there. It felt like a British pub before pubs got their act together on food. Decor is Dunelm on steroids, they’ve managed to strip the charm out of an old building. Someone who was probably the manager or owner saw me looking around and asked if everything was OK. I said the carrots were not cooked through - not even al dente. His response was to ask if we liked the roast potatoes. Yes, they’re fine thanks. “So, we failed on the carrots but the potatoes were fine?” Vintage customer service chez Fawlty Towers and a line that we’ve repeated a few times now to friends. This place has seemingly won a Traveller’s Choice award from TripAdvisor, but this was our experience. There are some character pubs with really good kitchens in the area but based on our visit, £75 lighter, this isn’t one of them and we won’t be back.

Lovely old restored pub in beautiful Cotswold village. I came in the hope of finding good food. It was not good. It was brilliant! The brigade in this kitchen really know their profession. Great ingredients treated respectfully, presented beautifully and full of flavour. There is one problem though. Choosing from the menu! It is one of those places where I found myself in tune with the chef’s tastes and could have chosen every course that was being offered. Maybe they should make it easier for themselves and their customers, if they reduced menu choices just a little. This gastro pub really is worth making a special; journey for. The owners will give you a very warm welcome on arrival. Hospitality is in their DNA here! I wish them well in these continuing difficult times for they restaurant and pub trade. To all involved, thank you for a lovely evening. I’ll be back pretty soon!

We stumbled across this pub having done a Westonbirt walk but was just not prepared for the exceptional top restaurant standard of food. It was amazing with everything completely home cooked to the highest standard. We had the goats cheese doughnuts, parsnip soup, surf and turf (best pork belly and crispy little calamari I’ve ever had) followed by falafels, and pheasant and the sticky toffee/brownie (best sauce ever!) we were blown away with the standard and taste of every dish. This is a hidden gem but word will get round, this is by far the best meal we’ve had anywhere in the Cotswolds. Thankyou Jo and James we will come back again and again. Also a great vegan/veggie selection for my husband.

Six adults, three lively children aged 5 and under, plus a small baby, arrived for Sunday lunch and were made to feel really welcome by the owner, James. An excellent menu served everyone’s tastes and appropriate children meals were conjured up by the kitchen . The food was really delicious! We were noisy at times and appreciated being seated away from other diners. All the staff were super friendly and although they probably breathed a huge sigh of relief when we finally left, they made us feel very welcome as we celebrated a special birthday. Thank you to them all. I would give them more than 5 stars if I could!

Arrived around 5pm on a Friday night. Lynne, one of the owners, warmly greeted us upon arrival, and swiftly showed us to our room for the night (room two). Lynne also kindly reserved us a table for dinner. Our room was spotlessly clean, warm and airy with a large shower, and was perfect for a quick stopover before we headed into the Brecons the next day. Once we’d got ourselves sorted, we hit the bar for a few drinks before our table was ready. Lots of beers and ciders were on offer, and we had a chat with Lynne and learnt a bit about her Inn and surrounding area. Dinner was fantastic. Lots of variety, and it was piping hot. My wife particularly liked the cabbage of all things! We were lucky to get a table too, as the restaurant was very busy the whole time we were there. The open fire was on, the inn was very warm and cosy. We had a comfortable nights sleep, and woke up fresh the next morning.Breakfast was superb; the full English was top notch and, again, piping hot. I believe it was Lynne’s husband slaving away in the kitchen, and he’s doing a great job. Unlike one recent reviewer, we couldn’t find fault in this b&b. She must have stayed in a different Queen Matilda Inn because this one was simply exquisite.Old-school, good old fashioned service, and it was exactly what we wanted and needed. Our hosts were super-friendly and warm; what’s not to like?Thank you for having us. We’ll be back, I’m sure. Best wishes,Graham and Lisha Robins

Stayed here on Tuesday night after visiting the Arboretum. Arrived at 5pm to a downstairs room to find that it was clean and well kitted out but cold. The radiator was luke warm and not working efficiently. After telling the owner that our room was cold she insisted it was warm enough at 19 degrees, the main boiler was up full and that most people just got straight into bed. The most disappointing fact was that she didn’t acknowledge that the radiator wasn’t working efficiently and offered no solution or any form of compensation at the end of our stay. Pub food was average and I sat in my coat as I was so cold.

On a previous visit several years ago we enjoyed the food so decided to come again on our visit to the Cotswolds. I tried their ham and pea soup to start. Very tasty. We also asked for bread which they gave us a variety of warm buns on a wooden board. They were devoured. Followed that with their yellow Thai chicken curry. Lots of chicken and very good. One of my sons had the Caesar salad with chicken. He couldn’t eat all the chicken as it was a generous helping. Ate. Everything else. Chicken and leek pie enjoyed by others in the group. Based on a great experience last year we rebooked a party of 12 for a pre-Xmas meal. This year was atrocius. The starters were burnt, the main courses varied hugely in size - some being miniscule, and some of the puddings were inedible. The landlady didn't smile once and couldn't make a kir, albeit that they managed it last year. We weren't offered coffee and were left feeling they wanted us out as soon as possible. The only saving grace was one excellent smiley waitress. AND to top it all the lights kept flickering in the room we were in and they seemed unable to resolve it or apologise. Unfortunately we won't be back.

We couldn’t have chosen better, in fact the ‘5’ on the rating isn’t enough. Even before we arrived Lynn took the time to ring me as we were late arriving and she thought we might be lost, we were! From then on our whole stay was just perfect. The room was spotlessly clean, warm, everything we needed and oh so comfortable, in fact one morning I didn’t want to get up out of bed I was so comfy! But having had a delicious meal in the pub the night before there was no way I was missing breakfast, and what a treat that was. From the full English, to poached eggs, smoked salmon, kippers, porridge all freshly cooked with unlimited filter coffee (or tea) cereal, toast, breakfast juice nothing was too much trouble. It was the little touches too throughout. I would highly recommend staying here and would definitely return. My advice - try it yourself, you’ll be made more than welcome.

Made a quick and very lucky booking as we only had a few day's notice. However from the first contact it was clearly going to be a fun and memorable stay.

We stayed at the QMCI overnight after having a meal in their pub restaurant. The meal was really good, well cooked tasty food and comfortable surroundings. Great selection of beers and spirits and the house wine selection was acceptable. The B&B; was OK , our bed was creaky and this meant a disturbed nights sleep but the area was peaceful and the shower facilities were excellent. We would return.

Lovely B & B room. Fine for a 1 or 2 night stay. Good location for local sightseeing. Good food was provided for breakfast and for evening meals.

This B & B is a lovely place to stay for a night or two and is in a good location with Tetbury town just 10 mins away. The rooms were nicely decorated, with underfloor heating, tea & coffee making facilities, t.v and a lovely en suite. The room was spotlessly clean with lovely wooden floor and the bed and pillows really comfortable. We didn't have an evening meal there as we had other plans but the food smelt lovely, with a good menu. We had a drink in the bar which was very pleasant, and this was a traditional county pub. The owner was very nice too. The breakfast was excellent, there was a choice of cereal, jams, marmalade and honey and brown or white bread. There was juice as well. Then a menu to choose for full English, vegetarian, poached eggs and bacon, scrambled eggs and Salmon, kippers or porridge. They all came well presented, and they even catered for Vegans. I really found no fault here and would definately stay again and definitely recommend.

Forget fish and chips Thursday and don’t bother to call as whoever answers has no interest in customer service or a sense of humour. Rather go down the high street to Little India, at least they are polite and friendly. Very disappointed.

I have got into the habit of eating here on Thursday when I can because the fish and chips are the best I have ever had in pub and astonishigly good value. My husband quile likes the beer too (which means that I have to do the driving),.

Ordered fish and chips refused to honour 2 for 1. After a lot of various attempts from the manager to bluf her way out of the deal the chef appeared shaking and threw us out. I think the plan was to save £7 on an extra portion. In the process of saving £7 you threw four people out who were eating and drinking. This place must be crazy as of course we are local and tell all our friends we are still laughing now. It was funny but on a serious note we are still unclear how we got to this point. We love you Queen Matilda x

We came here based on other Trip Advisor reviews and were not disappointed. Staff were friendly, food was all creatively prepared and attractively presented, and prices were very reasonable.

Quick overnight stay with my husband and dog. Were made to feel very welcome. Lovely room, decent enough size, good shower. Had dinner at the restaurant in the evening, food very good, as was breakfast. Veggie friendly.

This place doesn’t look much from the outside and just looks like a standard pub on the inside but we had a great meal here and cannot recommend it enough.

As Sunday roast lunches go most probably one of the best in the area for the price. Lovely pudds too. Nice set up inside Though a lack of gravy which the charmless throughout waitress begrudgingly supplied more of . We went as a social group of 6 and I would have returned be it not for the fact that the bar lady (maybe the proprietor - I am not sure|) cribbed about the fact we paid separately on cards and that she would prefer it if we paid cash next time as it costs her money. No thank you for our custom either. A real shame as it took the edge of a lovely lunch. I would think twice about returning now.

We really enjoyed our evening at the Queen Matilda. From the outside it looks like a very unassuming little pub. Once inside you realise what a charming little place it is and the food is excellent and well priced. We had the Thai curry and it was exceptional. Friendly staff and a great atmosphere. The town is also a nice little town that would be easy to miss, well worth a visit and the nearby Cherington lake offers a lovely little stroll,

Came here a few Sunday's ago when visiting the Tetbury area. Wanted somewhere for Sunday lunch and this did not disappoint! Staff were friendly and welcoming. The young waitress who served us was very friendly and offered recommendations from the menu. We all had roasts- pork, lamb and beef and were all very happy. Just the right portion size and nicely cooked. Would definitely recommend this place.

Had a very nice meal here, celebrating a birthday. It was a blessing to find a restaurant that wasn't enforcing a Christmas menu and music. Not being local we had no knowledge of the area, so this was a pleasant surprise. We had a great time, the staff were friendly and helpful and we didn't feel rushed to vacate our table. The food was great and good value. Very happy with the overall experience and will be booking again.

Stopped in the Noel Arms twice while in the area for food. Enjoyed their adorable coffee shop area & had a separate sit down dinner. The coffee shop was adorable & decorated for the fall season. I had a great oat milks latte & vegan cake slice to go. I noticed they had a sit down dining area & we came back for dinner later on. Dinner service: The dining area was busy for dinner service but staff was quick to tend to us. They had a decent selection of British pub fare as well as a selection of their award winning Indian dishes. They also had clearly marked vegan dinners - which is why I came in. I got the vegan sausage & veggie dish. It was alright. The sausage & veggies were on the oily side. (Which caught me sort of off guard but it wasn’t bad!) But in an area that doesn’t have many vegan choices- it was a blessing. I also got their Naan bread with hummus as a side. That was amazing. The Naan was hot, fresh & seasoned so well. The hummus was the winner. So delicious to dip the Naan in. It was a very quiet & relaxing dinner. Staff was great.
