Queen Charlotte in Windsor and Maidenhead

Been tonight for a lovely meal. The staff were so friendly and welcoming, and so personable and kind to our children. The food was delicious, the children's portion was a good size and the atmosphere was lovely. Calming, quiet, family friendly and totally relaxed. Highly recommend for a beautiful meal in a beautiful setting.

Very good pub for lunch while visiting the castle. Sunday Roast tested good and you have few options to choose from like lamb, chicken or beef. They also have vegetarian/vegan option.

When we arrived they were not very welcoming. We ordered some food which took nearly an hour and then one of the meals was completely wrong. Offered to take 10% off the bill and had the cheek to charge us a service charge. Food was average and portion size small.

Quite expensive drinks and once the tourists have gone , this place is dead with no atmosphere at all . Been once and won’t be back .

We went to Windsor castle at the end of June and stumbled upon The Queen Charlotte restaurant and it was the BEST meal and Service we had the entire week we were in London and Paris. There were 8 of us and we had 3 different dishes and they were all fantastic! Best fish and chips we had and their Shepherd's pie special was great. Our waiter was the best - helpful, cheerful and knowledgeable. He even mentioned a few local attractions we shouldn't miss and we will be forever grateful for his hospitality.

Totally disgusted with the Queen Charlotte pub near the castle. I have had a booking for nine people with them for the 3rd of August since the 11th of July and today they rang to say that they were cancelling my booking as a large tour party wants to be there at that time instead. I had friends coming from Wales, Portsmouth and Northampton for a reunion and they cannot change their times. Sadly a reflection of greed on the part of that establishment which I shall never go to again. Beware peeps, this is the world we now live in.

Great service and successful ambience in an excellent location at Windsor Castle. One point of criticism: everything sticks a bit (typical for a pub ;)). But no signs of poor hygiene or anything like that. Would come here again. The menu includes typical English cuisine, pies, burgers and salads. There are also vegetarian dishes. The falafel are fresh and very tasty. There is a special menu for children with the classics from fries, fish, burgers to chicken nuggets. Note: Men's toilet can only be reached via the stairs.

Nice pub in central Windsor, fair prices, all of our food was tasty (fish and chips) and the owner (can't remember his name) was very involved and personable. Sat outside in the cobbled road. Quaint.

Had a lovely lunch today after a visit to the castle. Host was incredibly friendly, pints were great, and the food was delicious. Really appreciated the non-standard pub fare! I had the Mediterranean Sampler and it was very filling and a great lighter option. Kids claimed these were the best chips we've had all trip!

Great food, location and service. The manager welcomed us in late on a Sunday afternoon. Definitely one of the better pubs in Windsor.

I chose this place to hold my wedding reception, they were brilliant with everything service was great food was lovely, staff were so helpful and polite, very accommodating in every direction! Couldnt have chosen a better venue

Average food, no complaints, until the bill came, we were charged a service charge of £12, there is nothing on the menu that states anything about a service charge. Are we becoming so americanised, I prefer to tip if I so choose . For this reason I would never return there.

Update: I went back after a while and food is so much worse than it used to be. I got a veggie burger and it looked like it was made by a 5 year old. It was literally two slices of cold bread with a single tomato, a leaf of lettuce and a patty with no sauce. The food is really good quality and the price is very convenient. I definitely wasn't expecting that from a pub that's right across the Windsor castle, so I'll definitely come back. I also really liked the fact that the place is air conditioned and a lot less crowded than the neighboring pubs in the same street.

A lovely little pub located in the shortest street in Britain. Very busy when we went, great atmosphere, the food was very good, and the staff were helpful, friendly and polite. Food prices are very reasonable but bar prices are a tad steep. Tables in the bar are placed very close together. There is no disabled toilet and the gents is at the top of winding stairs, but it is an old pub.

It had been nearly two years since we last visited (we are local), and this pub/restaurant seems to have lost it's edge and ambience. I used to like it as it was more of a lively 'Gin' bar. But now it feels like an average pub (with the young staff playing their playlist). The decor is no longer like the photos either with a loose Scottish flag sadly hanging down in our area. The price of the Happy hour cocktails isn't displayed, so we had to ask if there was an offer. We'd booked for 7 pm and the food was quite good. Although my steak and Guinness pie had five big chunks of carrot in it to fill it out and was accompanied by boring carrot and pea veg. I didn't fancy any of the four sweet desserts on the menu, so ordered an americano coffee at 8.45 pm only to be told that as the kitchen closed at 8.30 pm!! and that the coffee machine had also be cleaned and switched off. When we complained they did offer to turn it on again but I didn't want it then. I think some of this explains why it was so quiet on a Friday night with only one other table of diners. Unfortunately, it seems to be more of a bar now which is a pity. My friends did enjoy their main course choices. Recommend that if you do go here for dinner to order early before the kitchen closes!

Fantastic place, right next to the castle! Beautiful view, space at the back for more people overlooking the church. The food was very good, we tried several dishes and each of them was super tasty. Soft meat, perfectly seasoned side dishes. I recommend it to anyone who comes to Windsor!! With a clear conscience, big 5 stars!

Was recommended to me for the Sunday roast and definitely didn't disappoint. Friendly staff and great food with a variety of roasts to choose from. Servings were generous and good quality. The only slight negative was the service fee, not a fan of no choice in tipping but to be honest it wasn't high and I probably would have tipped anyway. Highly recommend if you're in the area.

We had a lovely impromptu light lunch in this pub. The food was lovely and the decor was bright and comfortable. We could see the Castle from the window and as it was a quiet day in Windsor, we could enjoy a leisurely, quiet meal without the usual throng of visitors. Our waitress was welcoming and attentive. We will return on our next trip to Windsor to try an evening meal too!

We were visiting Windsor on a Sunday afternoon we in need of a sit down and drink with maybe a snack..we found the pub asked if they just do coffee and maybe a snack the staff member said yes of course,we were led to our table whilst chatting we noticed the Sunday roast menu when our drinks arrived we asked about the roast as it was 3.30pm and thought no chance..they said no problem ill bring you the menu ...I had roast beef 2 others had lamb one had pork...wow one of the best roast dinners any of us have had...we all agreed excellent food excellent service and a lovely atmosphere,we will be popping in quite alot in future...highly recommend 😋

A friendly pub with good food and staff. Despite its proximity to the castle, it’s not just a tourist place.

Service was fab. But once dinner plates were taken away we were abandoned for 20 mins with the dessert menu. We were going to have desserts but then left due to lack of service. Shame as food was wonderful and up to that point service incredible.

We met a family member for dinner at The Queen Charlotte Pub, having read such wonderful things about it. Our meals were delicious and we were delighted by the vast array of gin and tonics one can order there. We all had Fish 'n Chips (I had scampi with mine), which everyone loved as it was expertly prepared (not a soggy fish & chip in sight), except for my nephew, who had the Hunters Chicken. He cleaned his plate so I think he also enjoyed his meal. The pub was empty that night, but it was raining heavily and right after the Christmas holiday break, so that could explain it. Don't let this pub's humble interior fool you. The quality of the food and drinks are excellent, and the pub is conveniently located within easy walking distance of the Castle Hotel, where we spent the night. We'd go back to try a different gin and tonic, and another item on the menu, for sure.

Not the worst place I’ve had lunch, but certainly not the best. We had booked for 1pm and when we got there just before 1pm the place was all locked up! Service was poor. As a restaurant, they should be offering table service but we had to go to the bar and get our drinks. We had pre-ordered our food but we got it an hour after we got there. One meal was burnt yet the chef thought it was acceptable to be served. That had to be returned and re-cooked. That member of our party had to wait hungrily while everyone else ate. Fish and chips didn’t come with home made tartare sauce as advertised. The fondant cake was not gooey in the middle and didn’t come with strawberries, and when we asked about the strawberries we were ignored. The restaurant only had two high chairs but we had more children that needed the chairs and indeed more families came with very young children who would have needed high chairs. The food was nothing special, the service was mediocre, the cost of the food was a bit overpriced. Had we have not been there with a party, I would definitely have disputed the “discretionary” service charge of 12.5% (what a joke calling it discretionary - discretionary means optional but it’s added to the bill whether you like it or not) I can only imagine the good ratings are from tourists who won’t have a reason to come back.

For a start, the menu says “homemade tartar sauce” but they brought out packets of tartar sauce. The fondant was not a fondant but a round brownie with some chocolate looking soft substance shoved in the middle. There was no strawberry with it either, even though the menu said it would be included. The vegan burger was burnt and we had to ask for another. We had to ask for any condiments instead of them being given to us along with the food. With the prices they charge for the food, you would expect table service but we had to order everything from the bar. It had the atmosphere and service of a Wetherspoons but they still had the nerve to charge a £36 service charge. To make things even worse, this place only has two high chairs. We were using both of them when another family came in so they were out of luck. For tourists who might not know or expect better, this place is probably just fine. I guess my standards are just a little bit higher. I shan’t be visiting this place again.

So impressed. We hadn't booked anywhere for dinner and just popped in. They were able to accommodate us, the staff were friendly without be at all overbearing, and the food was absolutely sublime. I had ribs and fries for a main - probably the best plate of ribs I've ever had, so simple yet so good. Brownie and ice cream for dessert and again simple yet delicious. Reasonably priced too. Was such a pleasant surprise, I would absolutely come back again if I'm ever in Windsor.

Avoid! Waited 15 minutes, having been ignored, before having to ask for a menu and no drink order was taken, despite only one other table being occupied. Waitress was totally disinterested. We left in disgust without ordering. Does not deserve one star, but unable to give no stars.

The food was great. Warm hospitality and good service. My kids raved about the hamburger. Everything was delicious. Recommend and was sad that it wasn’t busy for them.

Great location near the castle, and very good food & drink. Had the baby ribs, which were cooked perfectly with excellent chips. Others food also looked good. Don't often comment on drinks but the cider was crisp and ice cold - ideal.

We only visited for a drink but we were made to feel comfortable. Where can you visit the gents and see an oold fireplce still in situ. Magic!!

Just outside Windsor Castle. Stopped for a quick lunch of fish and chips. Fish was fresh, perfectly cooked, not greasy, nice crust. Large fries likewise. If I was looking for fish and chips in Windsor, I'd go right back here. Service prompt. Weather was nice so we ate outside.

We went to the Queen Charlotte in windsor for a Sunday lunch, we were sat in the centre room. The pub smelt like dirty toilets, the female staff was lazy and not really bothered to pay attention to customers. There was plates on the table and empty glasses. The food was awful, tasted like the meat had been reheated, the veg was cold, the stuffing was still frozen, there was no presentation with the food. When we raised this concern, we were apologised too, but here is the worst bit, we was told that the meat was from last week as not enough roasts were sold the previous Sunday, so it was frozen to be reused. We was also told that the chicken pies are made from chicken roast which isn’t sold on a Sunday. This is disgusting and the food is not fresh. The place really needs a new manager or ownership because this isn’t the queen Charlotte we loved to go to this time last year. We would rather go to a dirty kebab van then eat it this establishment again. We do not recommend and we advise to stay away. If we could do zero star then we would.

This is such a lovely place, great location, great food and drinks but the very best staff, they made our visit to Windsor so memorable, especially Michelle, if you are visiting Windsor you must visit here!!!

Poor experience- eating as a group of 6 - the only hand pulled ale was awful ( my dad couldn’t finish it and he loves his ales) Meals took a long time to come which for a busy day in August was to be expected. My ribs were very dry with an awful cheap shop bought coleslaw- Vegan / beef/ chicken burgers were just passable. After we had finished, our dirty plates were piled high and the male member of staff ignored removing them, or asking how our meal had been. Service charge a rip off. Of all the places we could have chosen to eat we were really disappointed we chose this one - would not return or recommend I’m afraid.

We found this pub by chance and are so happy we entered for lunch. The food is very good, the servers were very friendly and the beer is nice. Impressive food to be honest. We'll be sure to visit again the next time we're in London.

Nice menu. Two of our meals were good but the othe two very average. The service charge of 12.5% was a bit excessive.

Nach dem Besuch von Windsor Castle sind wir noch in Windsor fürs Sunday Roast geblieben. Der Pub hat uns sehr gut gefallen. Draußen schön zu sitzen. Sunday Roast war sehr gut und viel. Danach PIMS getrunken und eine gute Zeit dort gehabt.

If you can't make food, don't serve it. We ordered the burger, the cod and fish and chips. Both fish dishes were exactly the same, the burger was like plastic and chips were tasteless. Clearly understaffed and 7.5 pounds for a pint wasn't worth it. Fix your business.

I was in town last minute today with the dog and popped in for my lunch. Both staff were lovely and welcoming, made a fuss of my dog with strokes and a treat and were genuinely interested in chatting. The food was lovely, no complaints at all, great value for money.

Great location around the back cobbled streets of Windsor next to the castle. Beautiful day so tables all laid out on the cobbles. Great atmosphere and a good menu. Not as bust as expected, reasonably priced and good service

The Queen Charlotte, in Windsor, is the best restaurant. Their food is magic (great choices) and their service levels are terrific 👍 I love their sweet potato fries ... the best in the UK!

This place was such a great experience. Chose it by chance but we had no regrets at all! The staff is very kind and the food is very delicious! Big portions and very tasty. Is you are hungry or just stopping for fries and beer - this is the place.

Very quant restaurant near Windsor castle on small side market street off the hectic tourist area. Perfectly fried Fish & Chips was fantastic. Good selection of pulled local cask draft beer to compliment the fried fish.

This was our third visit to the Queen Charlotte and now, whenever we visit Windsor, we always aim to come here for lunch. You can always expect a warm welcome from the friendly team who genuinely make you feel like nothing is too much trouble. There is a great choice of food and everything we have tried is delicious. My personal favourite is sharing the Fish Platter but I admired the Baked Camembert that our neighbors were enjoying and will hope that is on the menu when next we visit. Exceptionally good value from a pub / restaurant right in the heart of Windsor.

Visiting Windsor for the day from Scotland and looking for somewhere for a drink and food. Picked it randomly an turned out to have great food, good friendly service. Food was beautifully presented and piping hot when it arrived. I had the peri peri chicken skewers and my wife had the fish platter. Both were delicious. Would definitely recommend.

Went in for a meal on a rainy, blustery night. Ordered food, which took a while, because the waitresses were too busy yapping in the other room, and ignoring us, even though there were only two families there all evening.

Great place, great service, and really good Sunday roast. We ordered Lamb roast, kids' fish and chips, and a plate of tortellini. Pint of casket Alle (Trooper), Pink Gin, and an Appletizer that went down a treat with the lunch. Reasonably priced for a great portion. Highly recommended. Will surely visit again

A lovely little pub in the heart of Windsor. Very dog friendly, very nice menu with reasonable prices ( for central Windsor). We chose the Meat sharing platter for £20 and were very happy. Lovely attentive staff to us and our dogs, thank you we will be back.

Ordered pie & mash and gammon and chips. Pie and mash arrived with carrots still frozen, was sent back. Gammon underside totally burnt and like leather, and grilled tomato also burnt. Sent back. They took 10% off the food bill. (£3) which didn’t even cover the service charge!!totally shocking that they even asked us to pay. Can’t even get the basics right. Will not be returning.

This bar near Windsor Castle is an excellent spot with a fantastic atmosphere. On Saturdays, the place comes alive with people singing and dancing, creating a lively and energetic vibe. The staff is incredibly friendly and attentive, always ready to offer helpful recommendations and ensure...

Popped in for a pub lunch. Lovely friendly staff. One had the steak, which was great, one had the super food salad, fabulous. A pub which knows how to do a proper salad, especially with the current supply issues, can't ask for more. Will use again. Thanks to all staff.

This used to be a great pub with great staff. I’m afraid to say since changing hands we’ve been twice and both times the staff have been rude and confrontational. We won’t be back.

We took the recommendation from a staff member at Windsor Castle. The food at Queen Charlotte was outstanding. The fish n chips were absolutely delicious!!! The owner is a really nice man who was a pleasure to speak with. The staff is wonderful. I would highly recommend Queen Charlotte.

We are local to Windsor and have enjoyed many lunches and drinks over the years at the Queen Charlotte. Today we had one of the very worst experiences ever there. We will not be returning. Sad to see bad staff letting down this establishment. Food...

After reading all the good reviews on here, I was surprised that it was the same pub. Having booked for 1200, it was obvious that they weren’t ready for us. It took 15 minutes before they came over to get a drinks order. And the waiter/barman was lovely, but looked like he’d just come come off a building site. Very scruffy. No real ale which was disappointing. There was no toilet paper in 2 out of the 3 ladies. The roast lamb was £19 but the lamb was thin and dry, and not what should be expected at that price. The fact that we were one of only two tables the whole time we were there speaks volumes. As someone that rarely reviews on here, I’m disappointed that I felt a reason too.

Nice little pub tucked away in the cobble street side of Windsor. Next to the Castle. In summer you can seat outside. The menu is nice and have a nice selection of sharers and even Spanish style tapas!!. It is very child/baby friendly but the best about this pub is the service, they are always friendly and go out of their way to help you.

Came here for a weekend lunch of fish and chips. The meal was lovely, great crispy fish and perfectly cut chips. Service was very good and location is right in the middle of Windsor high street.
