Sadly the proprietors are retiring after 16 years in house.Old customers will mourn the demise of supercharged French Onion soup and all the other favourites on the menu. Many thanks

The food we had tonight at Qualyes was superb. Such good quality ingredients and so tasty. The waiters were very engaging and friendly. If you want to hang on to, and enjoy, local businesses that provide a lovely atmosphere and add something to life, then support Qualyles. Otherwise we could risk losing such artisan and high quality businesses from Tetbury, to be peplaced by McDonalds.... Life would be so much poorer for that.

Excellent welcome and hospitality. The food we had was also very nice. My only gripe was my beef bourguignon was so salty! It was tasty but I could not finish it due to the salt. We rarely add salt to our food so my advice to the chef……Let your guests add more salt if they need it.

This restaurant is so promising but is completely let down by the rude owners. Never in my life have I felt like such an inconvenience as I did here! Upon asking to order our food we were told To “wait”. When we asked what fish the fishcakes were, the owner rolled her eyes and said ‘mixed white fish’. Our food turned up and wasn’t white fish. When asking for salt and pepper, the owner rolled his eyes at us. It really feels as though the owners of this establishment feel bitter towards customers and as such , shouldn’t be running this place. It is such a cute little spot and is absolutely ruined by the appalling level of service. My advice to management is to either find someone else to run your business for you, or sell it! To anyone who values not even good service, but common decency, don’t eat here

When it comes to Cotswold based restaurants sometimes its nice to find somewhere that’s less of the same and more of something a bit different, and in that capacity Quales Cornerhouse delivers above any other restaurant in Tetbury. Owners Philly and David take simple quality ingredients and combines them masterfully to create something totally unique in a both tranquil and chic environment that can be enjoyed in any setting, be it couples business or family. Quales concentrates on turning out great food from a small but expertly well chosen Menu that faultlessly delivers excellent results, and from my point of view that’s the name of the game. Far we have come from the overcrowded picture menus of the 90s, do a small selection of seasonal dishes and do it well, and that is certainly the mantra of Quales.

I have just tried to order a cup of coffee at this place to be met with unbelievable and inexplicable rudeness. It was 10.50am and I was looking for a cup of coffee for my mother and me. Inviting gingham tablecloths on outside tables were not set for lunch. I was told by a man in chef’s whites (I assume the owner, David Herbert) that this was not possible to as he was preparing for lunch at 12. He appeared very angry and stressed. I explained mum is 89 and needed to rest and asked if he could bend the rules - could we could just sit quietly and have a coffee? What ensued when was the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I was tutted and whined at by him and when I said he was not being helpful his wife (I assume) told me I was a very rude women and to get out. Faulty Towers!I notice another visitor had a similar experience in October. 6 months of lockdown has not taught this couple any manners. David has a picture of himself with Marco Pierre White on the website. Marco’s cooking is sublime enough to get away with the odd display of diva-ish behaviour. But it doesn’t work on a busy crossroads in a small town like Tetbury. Will be interested to read the response to this from an arrogant and out of touch couple. Avoid.

Firstly I offer a quick summary stating what we found was mostly good, unfortunately bad and/or just ‘indifferent’ about our experience at this eatery. For anyone needing further detail please find this within the full review below.Good: Crab starter, Meatballs, Pinot Grigio, ServiceBad: Kedgeree, Coffee cupIndifferent: NothingWe were on our way to the North Cotswolds for a couple of days away to celebrate my birthday, and we decided to stop off in Tetbury, itself a Cotswolds town, to look around and have a snack. In hoping to make an inspired choice for a venue for lunch, we wandered along Long Street, a street yielding a plentiful choice of eateries. The town-centre 4 star hotel, part of a group, was in pole position until we reached the bottom of Long Street and took a look at ‘Quayles’. There was just ‘something’ that appealed in the casual rather than formal manner, that made me choose to eat at Quayles (and I say ‘me’, as after-all it was my birthday break, and therefore, my choice). We popped-in, enquired about table availability and, after observing all the paraphernalia of hand-sanitizer, masks, social distancing, and QR scanning, we were shown to our table. We were seated, as per our preference, at a small table; rather than at what was described as the ‘bar’. I had thought that the ‘bar’ was the counter, where nobody was sat, being in front of the open kitchen. Was … I … wrong?! The ‘bar’ as it transpired was a high-stool bar around the completely windowed corner of the restaurant, thus looking out onto the Tetbury Market House and the busy surrounding streets. It was a sunny day, and it would have been so much better to be sat there. Ah well … next time!!Whilst we studied the menu we called for an Americano coffee for my partner, and a chilled white wine for me: well one of us had to drive! The owner who was waiting on tables, whilst his wife was chef, recommended the Pinot Grigio. Now, Pinot Grigio is rarely as good as a Sauv Blanc (well at least with my particular taste in wine). The owner, whilst agreeing that Pinot Grigio could be a bit harsh, said his wine list featured one that was very pleasant and not at all harsh. That was good enough for me and, after tasting it, I concurred completely with his guidance. The wine was Italian and only a year old. So, surprisingly it was quite soft, pale and light with overriding, moderately complex, almond notes and fruit tones (particularly citrus), and a complete joy to drink. So, I had a couple of large glasses, and will be sampling more next time!My partner’s coffee was served in one of those incredibly badly designed cups that provides insufficient opportunity to get a proper grip on the handle. Coupled with it being slightly overfilled, by the time that the desired quantity of milk had been added, it inevitably ended up being spilled down the front of my partners woollen jacket. Proper cups please!!The menu wasn’t large, but there were a couple of dishes that really appealed. Now, the plan was to have a light meal; as we had booked a table at our hotel restaurant in the evening. So, my partner decided on the ‘Smoked Haddock Kedgeree’ (a very light meal) and I had the ‘Grilled Devilled Cornish Crab’ with a vintage Cheddar and Shalott topping served with Toasted Sourdough (to start), followed by the ‘Italian Meatball Open Sandwich’ with a Chilli Tomato Sauce on sliced Sourdough drizzled in Extra Virgin Olive Oil, which was then garnished with fresh basil leaves and sprinkled with Parmigiana. So, that was the plan gone for a ball of chalk, then! What can I say? The crab was really excellent, very rich, strong flavours, wonderfully hot, and gorgeous with the sourdough to dip-in and mop-up all that lovely crab, in (I guess) a tomato sauce with a hint of chilli that left my mouth enlivened, but did not overpower the flavours. The topping was gooey, stringy cheese, not too much but adding a little extra to the texture combination.Sadly, the Kedgeree totally disappointed: in my partner’s opinion it was far too bland, with virtually no curry flavour (the predominant taste was of olive oil), and it offered a positively mean helping of fish. It left my partner (who had never tried Kedgeree before) feeling disillusioned, and totally regretting not having ordered what I had for my main plate.Talking of which, my Meatballs were fabulous! Quite firm with, I would say, a beef / pork meat combination, plenty of herb tastes, in a rich fresh tomato sauce that soaked into the sourdough. The basil tasted so amazingly aromatic; a balance of sweet and savoury, with hints of mint, anise and pepper. The Pinot Grigio was perfect with this dish: also being Italian it complimented Italian cuisine at is best. Bella, bella!!Service was good and helpful but the suggested gratuity, at 12.5%, was a bit steep. According to a sign the gratuity was given directly to the staff: this seemed a bit odd as the owner and chef appeared to be the only staff. I guess what they are saying that it’s a contribution to the cost of COVID alterations and helps with the inevitable downturn in custom. This was not a cheap meal at £55 odd where the plates I had were, as opposed to what my partner had, like chalk and cheese. As a consequence the shine was taken off our visit, but we will be back and try to choose better.

We popped in very late on a weeknight for dinner. Firstly the ambience is wonderful, whoever did the interior design did a great job, it's just very warm and cosy but also modern. We shared a dish as it was so late and they didn't blink an eyelid about that. We ended up having desert too. Everything we ate was wonderful and the owners and servers were all fun. Would definitely go there again.

The foods quite good but I would so much rather go for a beautifully presented lunch that costs little or no more at The Close Hotel opposite be looked after by lovely staff in pleasent spacious surroundings with a superb garden and private parking than be cramped for space and treated abruptly by impatient staff at Quayles. A great shame but we've given it our best shot.

If you are visiting Tetbury, you could do much worse than Quayles for lunch. Always with an interesting menu and cheerful service, it usually hits the spot. As a consequence it tends to be busy, so arrive early or late!

Nice place. Great for people watching being right on the roundabout next to the market place with seating along the big windows as well as farther back into the restaurant.

This is my second visit to Quayles, having noticed it on previous visits. The main reason for this review is to mention the welcoming and friendly staff, all of whom appear to be local. On the first visit I enjoyed the pheasant stroganoff and today was an excellent kedgeree. The seats at the bar around the window are a great spot to watch the world go by and read the papers, especially if eating alone as I was today.

Quayles caught our eye when we were strolling around Tetbury in the daytime and we were pleased to learn that it has recently started opening on a Saturday evening. We enjoyed our food very much and thought three courses for £25 was great value. The setting feels upmarket but the service is not over-formal - friendly and efficient. It was pretty quiet on a Saturday evening in March - I hope many more people will support and enjoy this restaurant to keep it open on weekend evenings!

Called in to Quayle’s after an unfortunate meal in another establishment. Even though it was 7pm on a Saturday evening they were cool with my friend and I having coffee and cake. Very laid back atmosphere with fantastic service. They really do know how to look after customers, we felt very welcome and that nothing was too much trouble. We’ll definitely be back.

Had lunch here the other day, the food was actually ok, but the reason for this review is. The chef getting chunks of bread dipping them in the soup and eating it, then onto the beef in the stew pot pulls a price out allows it to cool on the side and then ate it. Not good practice is it, in full view of paying customers, what goes on behind closed doors?

Position excellent, nice wine bar type surroundings. Efficient and pleasant waitress but grudging, unwelcoming - presumably husband and wife/partner owners - who barked orders at her. The menu was simple but enticing for a light lunch but vastly overpriced in terms of both quality and quantity.

This restaurant is situated in the Centre of Tetbury. I had very good grilled hot crab in tomato sauce with a green salad. Followed by good coffee and delicious orange and lavender cake. It was pleasant sitting in a window seat people watching in this busy town. The service was friendly and efficient. The only thing I didn’t like was the rather too loud music. A nice touch was piles of Country Life magazines for patrons to read. Also a backgammon board if one was having a leisurely meal.

Hubby and I visited on Friday evening whilst staying overnight in Tetbury. We hadn’t booked and the restaurant looked fairly busy, however we were met by a friendly face and they found us a table for 4 at the rear of the restaurant. We chose from the set menu of 3 courses for £25. All of the courses were excellent both in quality, taste and presentation. The waitress and waiter were both friendly and efficient, great to see as they were fairly young. The proprietor and his wife came over and spoke with us, a nice gesture. We popped in again this morning for a coffee on our way home and again were met by friendly and efficient staff. Thank you all, should we revisit the area we will be back in to see you.

We didn’t mind the slow service as we were sitting outside watching the world go by. However the Welsh rarebits were dreadful; too salty, far too much Worcestershire (or was it just brown sauce?). I ate mine but wished I hadn’t, particularly as I’m spending a lot of time in the smallest room today; this of course may be totally unconnected but that was the only difference in what we ate yesterday.

Last Sunday, we had the nice surprise to see Quayles open on a Sunday so we decided (5 of us) to come in at 13:45 for a Gin and Tonic and a nibble/tapa to go with it. The place was quite empty, just a couple and us. Once we managed to seat by the window we proceed to order the G&Ts; and some olives with bread, sadly we were told by a not very friendly waitress that we could only have coffee or a Gin & Tonic with a cheese sandwich! so we left. Cannot believe you have a place opened on a Sunday and you cannot serve a glass of wine or a G&T; with a miserable nibble of olives. Quayles, under my knowledge, is not a Tea Room, it is a lovely place to enjoy a glass of something with a nibble or something light to eat. I do not understand why to open on a Sunday at lunch time if incapable of serving something that will go with a glass of wine or G&T.; Just simple crips and some olives would do! I hope things improve, it would be sad to see what was a lovely place to go.

We stayed in SotW for a friends wedding locally. It appeared everyone had come upto the Cotswolds for wedding that weekends at the White Hart was our 5th attempt at finding a spot for dinner - turns out 5th time lucky it was! We had lovely service throughout dinner, fantastic food in a really lovely dining room. Would strongly recommend, nice selection of drinks and main meals, could well be a lovely spot for dinner for two or small groups as well visiting the area.

Fresh food, great service, child friendly too, what more could you want from a restaurant serving Sunday Lunch. We've just come back from Sunday Lunch at Roots + Seeds in Cirencester. Crispy beer batter on the fish, really chunky chips (not fries) silky smooth mushy peas pretty much a perfect combination. The young front of house team have been well trained to make everyone feel welcome too.

A lovely tea shop on the High St. I sat outside the front on the limited pavement seating. The staff were lovely and the food well presented. The pasty was though expensive and there was no wow factor. The ice bun was heavy and sticky. The coffee was delicious. Would return but not spend so much.
