Takeaway service was quick and on time for collection. Overall the food was good, sauces were very tasty. The meat was slightly more on the dry side but was still good. One of the better curries in the area.

We went to this Romsey Indian when staying nearby last week. I selected it based on the reviews of other but was a little disappointed with the flavour of the food. We were originally placed on table next to the toilets / even though the place was practically empty. We asked to move, which we did. We had pompadoms and they came with 3 dips. We both had Rogan Josh - me the prawn and the old fella had chicken, plus a portion of rice and garlic bread. The curry was not at all Rogan Josh norm, the sauce was not tomato or onion based and slightly odd tasting. The nann wasn’t dry garlicky and we were filled but not particularly satisfied. Would not visit again. Sorry.

I don't know where to start. Fantastic food and awful aggressive "service". Everything was a problem despite only asking for the basics IE separate bills and , get this , an extra plate.....

My family and I have eaten here for decades and have never been disappointed, dining in or takeaway. Returning as an ex-pat tonight, my lamb tikka jalfrezi was simply exceptional, everyone at the table thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Thank you for all the occasions you have served us.

My boyfriend and I either order takeaway or dine in atleast once or twice a month from Purbani. It never disappoints. Always delicious food, is 100% the best Indian in romsey.

The lamb was so dry hard and cold there wasn't any check back from any member of staff, and definitely no atmosphere

Menu full of variety, evening meal, felt very over priced. £91 inc tip for popadoms, chutneys, 1 starter and 3 curry’s all as a main. 1 rice, 1 chips 1 naan. No alcohol. Staff lovely. Tikka and kormas very tasty. You’re better getting a glass of wine as a pint of coke costs the same. They do serve Voss water though 😜

The menu is now far too big, resulting in the kitchen not being special at any particular dish or curry style. Unfortunately, this is now an average, value for money Indian restaurant.

From the moment we arrived the staff were rude and abrupt. I did take this up with them they said we were too noisey, there were 14 of us so we were speaking…….. there attitude was awful. After addressing this with them they put their more friendly heads on. To add insult to injury the food was dry and bland. Worst Indian i have had for a while. Steer clear..

Great restaurant, thoroughly recommended

I had a lamb dish that unfortunately was tough and grisly. Flavour of the base was good, but the meat hadn't taken up the flavours.

Is this place under new management? we havent been for a while and its the opposite of what we had come to know and expect ? staff rude and disinterested whereas they always used to be polite friendly and welcoming (and we only came to collect our takeaway order.) when we opened our food order at home we noticed the dhansak wasnt the same in appearance, the chicken was dry and tasted odd, the sauce was devoid of flavour and the colour of something unmentionable. the rice was cold in places and clumped together . We used to recommend this place , we wont be any more ! we've eaten better tasting ready meals !

The most disappointing indian meal we have had for years! I'm not sure if the usual chef was off, but this food was flavourless, and you couldn't tell the difference between any of the 3 main courses we had. I'm sure the chef didn't taste his food before he sent it because the flavours just weren't there! We paid a premium price for a well below average meal. Never again!

We had visited 2 years ago and returned for our wedding anniversary. Although service was very quick the food was terrible, re heated chicken that was tough and the waiter was rude, no respect.

Charged £12 for 6 poppadoms & 3 dips, each dip was charged individually even though we didn't order or eat them. £125 for an average Indian meal for three is too much. There are plenty of better dining venues in Romsey.

The staff here were very happy to prepare vegan options of most of the vegetarian dishes. The vegan vegetable korma was a particular street. The vegetable samosas had few vegetables however. This is really only geared to takeaway and I will happily return.

Ordered chicken corma, nahn, rice etc. For what is was I thought it was expensive, warm and tasteless. Very disapointing and won't go again. Pitty I was really looking forward to it.

Best Indian Restaurant around and their Chicken Makhani is to die for!

Having been recommended this restaurant as a place to try we thought we would dip our toe by sampling a takeaway first. With eager anticipation we ordered our choices last night and rushed home to sample the delights. It was on average 20% more expensive than other takeaways in the area but undeterred we took the plunge. Sadly nothing about the food lived up to expectations. The chicken in both dishes was very dry and rubbery, the sauce of both curry’s was very watery and oily and the Bombay potatoes had no sauce with them and were below average. Rice and Nann we ok though. I would not to rush back. Maybe as it was midweek we were unlucky but sadly it has not created the impression we had hoped for.

I lived the duck. Open earlier from other places. No WiFi but signal is good. Plenty of space and nice menu. Will visit again

We were recommended this place by our guest house owners, was wary as the last 2 comments are not so great but we had a lovely meal here. Staff were friendly, tasty food, would definitely go back if in the area.

This restaurant has definitely gone downhill. The service was very slow, tables crowded in ours kept getting knocked with people going to toilet. Two very very large groups of people restaurant staff couldn’t cope with them aswell as other customers. Food was average but took nearly an hour to come. Wont be going back in a hurry

Our favorite curry house in romsey normally. Curry was tasteless and naan was cold and dry. When I called to ask for the money back completely refused, offered money off next time but sadly we won't risk it next. This was a treat and wasn't cheap so very disappointed.

We went in at 5pm, the restaurant was freezing. The staff were friendly and plugged a heater in. However, it appears that they only decided to put the proper heating on when the third table came in complaining about the temperature. The lamb in my curry was chewy, the plate not heated and this resulted in my food being cold before i finished it. My friend enjoyed her meal but due to my experience i wouldn't rush back.

Not a bad setup, not unpalatable dishes, but very far from the standard of an average Indian restaurant, especially when it comes to hospitality. The waiters were very much in your face, quite abrupt and on this occasion visibly disappointed when we didn't order side dishes. From taking orders to handing over to the bill, to making it obvious that at 10pm we'd overstayed our welcome, they have a lot to learn about treating customers with respect. It's a shame because the restaurant really is quite nice. Maybe just a coincidence, but I also a had a suspiciously bad gut following my plate of vegetarian dhansak. There's definitely only one Indian restaurant I'll visit in Romsey from now on, and it's not this one unfortunately.

The food here is great. Curry is well flavoured with a complete depth of spices. Not just hot like some.I have been several times.

Purbani is without doubt it’s the best Indian restaurant in Romsey. Really friendly staff and consistently good food. The king prawn puri for starters and the Bishnathi, Madras and Shahi Tikka are particular favourites and would thoroughly recommend. Thank you to Miah and the team for always being so welcoming.

Over the years I've sampled both takeaway & restaurant Indian cuisine. I have this evening sampled what I believe to be the best I've tasted for many years. Top quality, well done Purbani Romsey.

It would appear that eating in Romsey on a Monday evening is quite difficult in the current climate. Having walked around I found that not many places serve food. Having checked trip advisor and mixed reviews decided to eat at The Purbani. It was busy which was a goods sign.Staff were very polite and offered an alternative to my usual chicken tikka masal..chicken tikka karahi...cooked very well. Pilau rice and a garlic nan, really enjoyed the food and reasonable price..would definitely visit again when in Romsey

Good food, but..... unfortunately the staff act as if they are totally bored and they tried to charge for 5 beers not 4, plus 3 wines not the two we had and added a a gin onto the bill. At least £17 was taken off final amount. Just make sure you check the bill. Leaves a nasty taste in your mouth to think many other customers may not bother to check their bill.

Amazing place to eat. Food is spectacular and full of flavour. Staff are pleasant and polite.. what a find, and came recommended twice before leaving the hotel.... with good reason.

My husband and I have been to Purbani several times. Each and every time the food has been marvelous, the service impeccable and the ambience restful, lovely and clean. I'd recommend this restaurant to anyone, anytime for any sort of meal out. They are wonderful.

This is my local Indian restaurant and our latest visit was excellent, as usual! The food is lovely and the menu has a lots of tempting choices. It's great value plus, the staff are courteous and friendly.

Have just eaten here tonight with my husband. Cannot recommend highly enough the quality of the food and the attentive friendly staff. We'll definitely be going back and recommending to friends and family.

Visited with 2 friends on Monday evening and we were the only 3 people in the restaurant. The food was good but the waiters were hovering and standing close enough to hear our conversations. Felt very uncomfortable and were rushed to finish and leave. Ate meal and left within 2 hours, not relaxed atmosphere at all. Disappointed!

Booked a table for 14 on a Saturday, incredible food, generous portions and the staff could not have been any more helpful. In particular I loved the Lamb Bishnathi, Keema rice and Peshwari naan breads, great fresh flavours and I will be coming back again, 10/10 a must try in Romsey. Well done!

Was going to give this a poor review but the chicken dish I had was so tasty I changed my mind! Firstly we must have had a bad waiter because he was rude, pushy and unhelpful It was quite when we arrived on Friday night but we weren't weren't given a minute to peruse the extensive menu. Settled in starters in the 3 minutes he provided us but when asked if we could have a little longer to decide on mains he said no "as it would crash his system" so we just blindly picked Also sadly only one red wine available by the glass which turned out to be a £6 a bottle cabernet sauvignon 😔 which they wanted £20 a bottle for, had they had more options or a bit of patience here we would have usually spent £20-30 on drinks but instead I had a diet coke as I was being forced to decide By the time we ate the restaurant was heaving and as I said my chicken dish was incredible ( even though not hot) so I can see why it's popular. Hopefully we have a better experience next time 🙏

Curry bitter and basking in oil Mushroom rice consisted of plain rice with half cooked mushrooms mixed in. Poor effort chef.. will not be returning

Soon to turn 55 years of age and I can quite honestly say this was the worst curry I have ever (partly) eaten in my life. I had to wait well over an hour to be served chicken that was literally swimming in oil. It was absolutely disgusting. And when I discreetly approached the waiter at the end of the meal he was having none of it, saying this was what it should look like. You decide on what you think looking at the photos. I hardly touched it, and still had the taste of oil in my mouth the following day. Rancid meal and incredibly poor Customer service. Absolutely NEVER again !!

Unbelievable read though! Dirty beer lines with 10mm bits of yeast floating within the glasses, Freezing cold sheek Kebab clearly microwaved, cold nan, cold meat in methi. All was pointed out but no real attempts to resolve the issues. Clearly unhappy I offered to pay for half of the meal upon which the staff then became intimidating surrounding me and physically abusive upon which I had to ring 999. Finally managing to leave the premises one of the staff kicked me. I will be pressing charges. UPDATE; What do you refute? Is it that your food and service was awful or that you kicked me in the stomach?

Solo visit and met with indifference. Waiter pointed to a table. Food was bland, something a Dansak should not be. Chicken pieces were hard and dry, sauce unlike usual Dansaks. Service was a take-it or leave-it attitude. Very disappointing considering previous visits wee really good. Toilets not clean, with unpleasant odour and very sticky floor.

Catering for twelve people with different tastes was not easy but with the help and friendly service all went very well. The good quality food was greatly received and enjoyed by the group of neighbours and friends.

A very disappointed visit this evening, the whole ambiance of the place can only be described as cold and unfriendly. Cutlery thrown on the table , no engagement in help with ordering. The starters were very nice , onion bargees and butterfly prawn but the main meals were tasteless bland and not hot we didn’t feel it was freshly cooked we didn’t complain at the time as we felt the attitude of the staff wouldn’t of been in the least interested but wouldn’t return and definitely not recommend.

I loved it!!! The Purbani never fails me. The food is beautifully cooked, packed with amazing flavours and the restaurant serves authentic dishes for all palettes. This is my favourite restaurant and worth travelling to every single time! The hospitality is perfect and every dish is recommendable

We have been visiting here for 35 years and have never been disappointed. The staff are so friendly. The service exceptional and the food is the best you can get. We had a takeout curry on holiday in Cornwall last week and we all as a family compare it to here and nothing comes close.

Always enjoy a takeaway meal from here. We live out in the sticks and even have closer options available to us. But we still prefer to come out to Romsey for this Indian takeaway

This was possibly the worst meal o have ever eaten. I always have a lamb dish. It’s the only time I get to eat the meat. This was a lamb jalfraisy. More like a goat that had died of old age. Horrible. The rest of it was fine

Great meal, tried a new local takeaway (mentioning no names) and it was very disappointing, this was our first meal from the Purbani, it was very flavoursome, spicy, full of meat and in my case hot! Recommended 👍

Oh,dear living on past glory. Visited on Saturday night,so busy with takeaways, completely ignored restaurant, Service terrible, waited !hr 20mins for main course, when food arrived below normal standard. This restaurant should decide if its a restaurant or takeaway! Be warned , expect a long wait, its a shame it used to be so good

Travelled a good 20 mins to get to Purbani, ordered food, clearly asked for 4 different dishes plus side dishes. Got home to discover only half the order was in the bag. Called the restaurant to say some had been forgotten, staff member was extremely defensive and rude, denied we’d actually ordered dishes even though he read them back to us. Was extremely arrogant and dismissive throughout the conversation. Girlfriend and her dad returned to the restaurant to reorder the missing food where staff were extremely confrontational and laughed at the fact they’d clearly got the order wrong. No apologies whatsoever or any kind of attempt at customer service

Enjoyed a superb family meal out. The food was all lovely and fresh. Amazing flavours and delicious all round. Service was quick and friendly.Can't fault any of the dishes. Kids enjoyed it as it was their first Indian meal out and they loved it.Always nice to get a shot at the end of Sambuca (Flaming)

We had booked a takeaway and were served it really quickly. Very Covid-friendly service. Food was as delicious as if eating it in the restaurant itself.

My family and I have eaten in countless Indian restaurants over the years and, I have to say, this is the best food we have had. If you are in the New Forest area this is a must! The service is spot on, the food is reasonably priced and exceptionally good. The duck dishes are absolutely amazing and cooked to perfection. We loved it so much we ate her twice in three days. Well done Purbani, look forward to seeing you again soon.

Have been eating here and having takeaways from here for many years. I have always had wonderful food here, so always come back for more (I always order the same dish, call me boring!). The last two takeaways I’ve had have unfortunately been very very bland and oily, nothing like the quality of food I normally have from here. Hoping it is just a blip and that the normal tasty and delicious food is back soon!

Absolutely fantastic takeaway service. Purbani have just reopened to offer takeaway for their customers since corvid-19 happened. They are doing a fantastic job. I have been eating in this restaurant for 15 years at never has the food disappointed me. Highly highly recommend

We went to the purbani yesterday for a meal. We were very disappointed in the speed of the service. Our drinks order was nice and quick, but it took nearly an hour to get our food. We had poppadoms and pickles, but the wait for our mains was ridiculous. The waiter was not particularly friendly either. My food when it eventually came was delicious, however one member of the group was disappointed in theirs as they found it chewy and oily.

Had to wait an hour for food to be served at 8pm even though there were only 3 other tables occupied. Service and ambience and food were average. Toilets were below par. My chicken was a little dry and the sauce was very oily but otherwise tasty. All the other dishes were fairly delicious though.

Accommodated a group of 15 with no problems.

Although rich with tikka masala tandoori flavouring, the meat in this case, chicken let the whole dish down. The meat, dry and tough lacked any kind of flavouring, although cooked in a clay oven you would expect otherwise. The rice on the other hand was devine. Clearly this restaurant needs to work on their clay oven skills as the naan bread too was poor.
