Natraj Romsey in Test Valley

I can't complain about the food, which is standard Indian Restaurant fare. The service was ok, if a bit slow. So why am I leaving a 2 star review? When the bill came it had a 15% service charge. I understand this for a large group. But for 3 people?! and 15%?! It's very awkward to say please remove the service charge from the bill, and I would rarely give a 15% tip. This is basically a scammy surcharge. I won't be returning until they stop this practice. In any case there is a better restaurant just around the corner.

Had a delicious fresh karai here, served by the very attentive Mohammed. An excellent meal out with friends, I'll be back.

We eat in Indian restaurants a lot and this was one of the best. I had the Achari murgh which is my go to dish and this was the bast one I've had. My husband loved his Madras too. Mohammed was very welcoming and the service was great. We were the first ones there at 5.00 and by the time we left at 7.30 it was full up! Prices were very reasonable too. Highly recommend

I am Indian - this is not Indian. Butter chicken was sweet and tasted overly of coconut. Chicken was dry and hard. Mattar Paneer was mashed paneer and an insult to the dish. Naans were dry as if they had been pre-made and lacking butter. Prawns were rubbery. Daal portion only half filled the foil container. We only got a takeaway from here because Dawat in Abbotswood was closed and although not terrible this was a poor excuse for an Indian. Will not order from here ever again.

Meal for 3 adults and 1 child as a takeaway. Mostly successful but disappointing in some respects - the chicken was a bit tough, the pilau rice was dull (in colour and flavour), in the sag paneer the cheese had all melted (it tasted eggy), flavours otherwise were good. Quick service. Would eat there again but will also consider the alternatives.

We have used Natraj Indian restaurant on many occasions. This week my daughter and I decided to have a catch up dinner. The guys that looked after us were both friendly and efficient. We both ordered starters and main courses and the food was superb. The curry’s we ordered were delicious! All in all a brilliant experience, well done and thank you!

Amazing food and really reasonably priced. Everything was cooked to perfection and had such an amazing mix of flavours and aromas. Helpful friendly staff. Another gem we will visit again.

Have been using the Natraj for years and am surprised by some of the negativity in the comments. We generally get take-aways and the online booking system works perfectly for us; I expect a wait time of somewhere between 40m and 1hr on a Friday evening, which is fine for freshly cooked food and easy to make allowance for. Eating in the restaurant earlier this month Mohammed was the perfect host but all the staff have been incredibly friendly and efficient over the years and the food is always good. We will long remain regular customers.

Fantastic food. We had the tandoori mixed grill and brinjal bhaji as a takeaway. It was all excellent. Great tasting food and generous helpings professional service with a smile, all cooked freshly so ready within 20 minutes - we couldn't fault it and will return.. Fully recommend.

Best Indian restaurant in Romsey by far. Don’t waste your time going anywhere else. Food is always fresh, presented well with amazing flavours. Lovely staff. 10/10

problems with some equipment in the kitchen meant we had to wait about 20 minutes for our takeaway food but it was worth it, especially the chicken dansak. Best one I've had in a while.

Thought I’d give it ago again. After years. It’s managed to get even worse. The curry’s have no taste just very bland food. Not to mention the argument the waiter just gave me about what I ordered and what I didn’t. Even tried to charge me again. Anyway food was not good at all. Mines already in the bin after a few mouthfuls. Misses just found chicken veins and blood in her korma. Save yourself the money. Go around the back of Romsey Aldi.

I’ve ordered takeaways as well as dined in house at the Natraj a few times now and every time the food has been delicious. The service is always friendly and accommodating - especially Mr Mohammed who is a fantastic host (and delivery driver sometimes!) Highly recommend as one of the most reliable restaurants and takeaways in Romsey

Went here for my wife’s birthday, Mr Mohammed was fantastic! Great service and amazing food! Had the poppadoms for starter and the jalfrezi for main, both delicious. Well defiantly be back.

Lovely food, had the chicken tikka korma hot, it was amazing ! We also indulged in the ultimate kebab starter! Mr Mohammed was a great host for our meal

Very disappointed and rushed. We were asked to leave our table that we had booked at 7 p.m. The starter came out with the main course which a gap in between courses is usual. As soon as we finished our main course, the bill was put on our table. Before we could look at the bill the waiter came over with the card machine. We were not even asked if we wanted coffee after our meal. The reason being, people who had not booked were waiting at the door and they asked us to vacate our table although I had not even finished my drink. How rude, this was only 7.55 p.m. Will not return.

Havent ordered for a while, but even as a take away, great quality food, and thoroughly tasty, still really good place to eat, will be back for more soon

Took my Dad out for a curry, we always come here and are never disappointed. Mr Mohammed looked after us very well, we had Chicken Garlic Chilli and it was delicious

We have had take away from this restaurant for literally years, only occasionally eating in, but tonight we thought we would book a table for a change. We are glad we did, friendly staff and as ever great food, in a nice setting. Mr Mohammed looked after us well with extra after eights and Bailey’s on the house after, always appreciated. This is a really good Indian at a reasonable price. Recommended.

Very good food, but we are not able to add anything more because they informed us that the kitchen is too busy. Very loud staff who's speaking in their language for whole restaurant. Before the meal, the waiter took my plate from the table without any explanation. When I asked him to recommend the wine, he said: I am not deinking the wine 🙄

Came over last Saturday to Romsey met up with friends decided to have something to eat. Tried a couple of other restaurants and were turned away (as it was busy mothers day Sunday ) went in to Natraj and although it was busy Muhammed managed to squeeze us in. Food was good service great and just want to say a big thank you to you n the staff ....cheers 🍻

When coming into my local Indian restaurant expecting an showstopping night | was dumbfounded but the 45 min waiting I was slapped round the face with. After what felt like a long haul flight I was ABSOLUTELY DEVASTATED with this so called "authentic experience". The butter chicken was beyond bland I would have been surprised it they had even put any spices in. This was cleverly paired with a incredibly dry garlic naan that ruined I thought would have saved the meal but Infact did not.All this was topped off with the fact the food all looked like a bowl of baby food which quite frankly my dead dog wouldn't even have at.In all honesty if I could have given this place 0 stars. I would have….

Respone from other review i put, u have numerous times removed are booking, due to we dont meet your standard and like to pay separately all of us somtimes its 4 other times its up to 8, just beacause it like u say makes are job harder, thats what u are there for, note, coustomer is allways right they pay your bills in the end.

We usually book a table for 5 to 7 people over the past year and every time we receive the bill we all like to pay separately, they insist that we pay the bill as one but we always pay separately, they always make us feel out of place like its inconvenient for them,, now when they see our name on the booking form they decline our booking even though they clearly have tables and have sent an email confirming the booking. Will be eating elsewhere.

If I could give less than 1 star I would. Collected our order only to arrive home and find they had missed, not 1, but 2 Tikka Masala’s. They didn’t return our receipt which seemed odd. When we called to report the missing items they swiftly hung up. Utterly shocking service for average food (that we didn’t receive)

Absolutely Delicious Lovely atmosphere for Date Night. Mohammed and the team were very friendly and attentive. Great background music with a vibrant atmosphere. We have enjoyed years of great food and service. NO 1 choice for eating out in Romsey.

Really enjoy the food at Natraj. The dishes are very tasty, well presented and always served at a the correct temperature on warm plates. Staff although, a few new faces are friendly and helpful. Mohammed was given guidance by a long standing member of staff as to our regular drinks and choice of dishes which is good customer service. Lovely evening.

Really nice food came here on a recommendation and wasn't disappointed. Only one fault that as a disabled person the ramp to get up the step is extremely steep but thankfully I had help and to be fair staff were very accommodating and polite. There was 6 in our party all food came out together and flavours were good on all the dishes. Prices are in kept with other curry houses. Would definitely return.

Arrived here for dinner with a friend. We had no reservation, so thought we’d chance it. Got to restaurant and immediately could see it wasn’t busy with plenty of empty tables. We asked the staff member behind the bar if there might be a table for 2 available. He was rather surly, and simply pointed us toward the waiting area, and said “take a seat”. I gave him the benefit of the doubt and took a seat as requested. After 5mins of sitting and chatting, it occurred to me no drink had been offered, and we were still sitting there having been completely ignored. During this time the staff weren’t busy. Needless to say we left and went to the other Indian restaurant in town where we were promptly seated and served immediately. Very disappointed with Natraj service and staff.

Excellent set meal for 24 people. A little noisy but the room was full of parties.

Too much sugar in the curry on this and previous occasion. Why put any in?

The food was great but I just don't appreciate restaurants that add a tip automatically to the bill. I prefer to pay tips with cash or at least have the choice to enter the amount myself into the card machine.

Have a place to be something and nothing. Party of 3 , we entered into an empty restaurant, asked for a table of 3, initially told, sorry, we are full , then we said, ok not a problem, we can go else where, and by a miracle a table became free...... (We're market traders and we were not dressed in our finary, maybe they thought we were not suitable. ). Sat down and ordered, that took an age, as though no-one wanted to send us. Food came, we ate. It was ok. I had planned on going back, but it was so average we went else where. I thought it expensive for what it was.

Ordered a takeaway from here for the first time tonight and was really disappointed. Watery curry that was lacking flavour, small Bhaji which was dry and tasted old. The rice was flavourless and the naan was awful. The hunt for a good local Indians continues…

First time here, took family from Australia and we all loved the food

Again…I don’t know why I tried ordering a delivery from them! Their timing is terrible…I ordered at 7.03pm which said 65mins for delivery…..I waited another 30 minutes after this to chase…then I got told it would be 5-10 minutes…didn’t arrive so 15 minutes later I called again and got told it’ll be 5-10 minutes again! I said no that’s what you said last time and then they said 15 minutes…so I’m in total over 2 hours from placing order…bearing in mind they are just over a mile down the road! This has happened before it thought o would try again…definitely never again….I have asked for a refund as too late now to eat…they have again ruined my night! I await to hear from a manger tomorrow as completely unsatisfied with their service DO NOT USE UNLESS YOU WANT TO WAIT 2 HOURS

Food is always superb. Service very good. The extra spixy chicken tikka was outstanding

Have eaten Indian meals for 45 years, always had the same, actually quite good apart from a massive lack of chicken in the chicken biriani. Mutton dressed as lamb.

1st impressions on arrival the restaurant and decor looked nice, had wanted to try Natraj for quite a while, we had the opportunity to try when friends invited us. We were seated at our table and menus and drinks ordered, staff didn’t seem very attentive and asking for a bottle of Bud was a rigmarole to say the least ! Then we wasn’t greeted by another member of staff to take the food order, he wasn’t friendly, and the rushed attitude and manner to which he did this was not pleasant. The food came out pretty quick and the temperature of my meal was warm, not as if it had been freshly prepared, it was ok but not as expected for a chicken Bhuna and pretty tasteless ?. A garlic Naan and a peshwari Naan came out in the same bowl, the staff member couldn’t even get which order they were in the bowl right. The dessert menu was presented and after saying we wouldn’t be having dessert, this was snatched away and pretty much was told the bill was coming, and the attitude from the staff was like we had outstayed our welcome and they wanted us out of an empty restaurant at 9pm on a Saturday night we sat down at gone 7.30pm ? What’s the rush, not impressed and won’t return again due to mainly the staff attitude and mediocre food. My wife this morning has a very bad tummy. The restaurant had vacant tables all evening, and we couldn’t understand why the untrained and not very attentive staff pushed the whole experience through so quickly, wasn’t as if people were waiting to eat, by 9pm we were the only ones in there on a Saturday night, had I walked past and looked I would of wondered why, but on visiting the answer is very clear ! Sorry but 1st and last experience for us.

We have had a few takeaways from this restaurant but had never eaten in. The restaurant is quite modern clean and tidy. The food is quite nice although my wife wasn’t sure about the use of lime chutney in her curry. The service is attentive and reasonably friendly. The toilets although a bit cramped are modem and clean. All in all a very nice evening and we would have become regular customers. However one of the staff followed one of our party out of the toilets and didn’t wash his hands. We then watched in disbelief as he continued to serve with his thumb resting on people’s plates. So we won’t be returning.

Went for dinner today Saturday 17th June. Sat at table 7.10pm. Meal all done 7.55pm . Starter, mains and drinks, 45 minutes. Come on guys what was the rush, restaurant was half empty, really ruined the evening. Asked you to slow down, you didn’t listen. Won’t be back.

I ordered a take away. The food was excellent but the nan was not as soft. Other than that I would buy food from there again.

Not very good at all, the chicken was very rubbery, and hard, we would assume frozen due to the poor quality. My own Jalfrezi seemed to have a LOT of onions, just excessive. Another dish flaw from the same order - half of a tandoori...

As a Brummie I really miss the taste of a Birmingham Balti, but am happy to say that the Balti at the Natraj is fantastic. Best Indian food in Hampshire

Surprisingly good. We ordered far too much food but everything was good. I really liked the keema nan as well.

Fantastic food. One of the best Indian meals I’ve had. Consistently excellent food. It doesn’t matter if you eat in or take away it’s always good.

Food was nice but I only noticed after paying that the prices did not match those on the menu. The waiter was keen to take the receipt away but I asked to keep it. They also added 10% without discussion or option. Won't be returning.

Ordered half tandoori chicken, and they brought out a lamb kebab and told me that's what I ordered. I ate the food anyway because I was hungry but it wasn't great. Samosas were undercooked but the other sides were ok like rice etc. My friend had pasanda and it tasted like sugar. £67 was too much charge.

Had a lovely meal tonight at Natraj Romsey. Really good menu and excellent food and service. We had travelled from the South Coast and thought we were going to be late but the Staff were so accommodating. Thank you so much we had a lovely evening. Mike Jones

Had a really delicious meal here with my husband. Prices were exactly what I'd expect. We had a vegetarian sharing platter to start and then a curry each both with rice and a naan. I do slightly regret ordering so much as I couldn't finish it, but it was all so good! We will definitely be returning.

Me and my wife visit Natraj regularly. We are never disappointed by the quality of the food and it is our go to spot when we are with friends and family. 100% worth a visit if you are in or around the Romsey area.

A varied carte is backed up with good food, all served by a pleasant staff team. There is a good selection of wine, as well as liqueurs etc to enjoy after the meal with a good coffee.

The food and service was immaculate just like the presentation of the whole restaurant. The tables were set out beautifully and it was all nice and clean. Great work guys, keep it up!

Seventeen of us dined here, as we have before. I just had two poppadoms instead of a starter, followed by Goan King Prawn Curry, which was delicious. Amazingly they managed to produce everyone’s different meals at the same time! Service was excellent. We’ll be back.

We had the most beautiful meal this evening they were packed solid and doing takeaways too one waiter came up to us and apologised as they were so busy but there really was no need the food and service was outstanding I can thoroughly recommend a visit to this lovely restaurant.

A great selection of Indian dishes. I have visited this restaurant on quite a few occasions whilst working in the area and the food has been excellent every time. There is a great atmosphere and the staff are really friendly and helpful.

Good food cheap beer. Rice etc has to be ordered separately which we forgot, but on asking it only took 2 mins to arrive, excellent service.

Disappointing take away. The lamb curry was very very greasy, lacked flavour. Left most of it. The veg side dishes see good as was the naan.

We were on business for four days in the area and found this excellent Indian restaurant on our last night. The food is outstanding with great service warm and welcoming. I will definitely return to this establishment when I am back in the area.

Excellent meal tonight. Attentive service and the food was first rate. Jalfrezi was hot but with flavour and taste. Lamb was exceptional, tender and a lovely blend of spices. We are from Manchester, only wish we were closer. 5 stars

I ordered online for a pay on collection takeaway, unfortunately until you place the order it doesn't tell you how long it will be. In this case it was 60 mins- OK its a busy, popular restaurant but that was more than I was willing...

Varied menu compared to many. On the times we've used it, no complaints on quality.

It’s been a while since I have visited here and I really happy the standards and food have not slipped at all , small party of 4 all had different dishes, starter with drinks nothing was too much trouble we didn’t feel rushed or over waited on, all the food came out perfect great flavour piping hot and in abundance. My only mistake was forgetting to ask for a doggy bag for the leftovers 😂 Staff are great foods great and great value highly recommended.

I come here regularly with friends & find the food is always good as it was when we visited last night. After my experience with a member of staff last night I feel I need to write this, on arrival @ 8.45 we were told we have to leave by 10pm by a miserable waiter but then waited considerable time to be served which made this time difficult to keep. The waiter was Extremely rude throughout the whole time. When I asked for the service charge to be taken off he replied take the bloody service charge off and get out and don’t ever come back and then proceeded to slam the door behind me after leaving. I intend on going back to see the management. But won’t return for another meal.

An unacceptable wait to be served even though the restaurant was virtually empty . . well over an hour. Stale popadoms , surly unfriendly waiting staff and cold chewy food. Couldn"t wait to leave and get fish and chips on the way home. Certainly wont...

Very nice food, service was a bit rushed and we had to be out by 10pm. Update, reply below from the restaurant and then my reply to this. Response from the owner 23 hours ago Thank you for your feedback. Not sure if you were in a rush to go or you were rushed, staff remain on site until 11pm week days and 11:30 weekends. Reply - we arrive shortly before 9pm (table of 8) and were told by staff that we needed to be out by 10pm so they could lock up. It was the staff that rushed us, we would have been happy to stay for longer.

All 4 of us agreed that this the nicest curry we have ever eaten, and thank you Shah for making our evening so good. We have already recommended your restaurant to a group of friends that will be visiting Romsey in the near future.
