Superb food & great service , was very busy so a little wait but not an unacceptable one & an apology for it & it was well worth the wait, chicken & leek pie was beautiful with huge chunks of chicken & golden crispy chips. Belgian waffle was also delicious would highly recommend it here

An extremely well run pub with superb food. Second visit having been in January, this time it was very busy but the staff made us feel very welcome even though they were rushed. They found me and my son space withour dog, and the service and food were just as good as our first visit in January. Good size portions at good prices too. Will definitely be back again.

Recently had a meal here and it was very good. I asked for the rib eye steak and was asked if I wanted any sauces, I asked for blue cheese sauce and was told they don't do it but would ask the chef. When the meal arrived I was pleasantly surprised by a gravy boat of blue cheese sauce which was superb. Friendly service, beautiful surroundings and easy to find. I highly recommend this place.

a Sunday evening treat and we decided to revisit this small Pub just outside Kendal. we had been before but it was well over a year ago . situated by the side of the main road towards Endmoor from Kendal there is a good sized parking area to the right of building , a short walk over even ground to the front door ,no step, and a warm welcome from new management with a very attentive style, traditional pub grub for both of us, Roast Beef with all the trimmings and a pleasant surprise was that all the ingredients were fresh ( last time we visited it was mostly from frozen ) we enjoyed just a main course on this visit even though there were some tempting desserts on offer . we will be back !

The food was amazing, the minted vodka was delicious and the standard that my special request was met at was extraordinary. If I'm ever down that way again it would defiantly be this place I would be choosing.

We went to the Punchbowl for a celebration meal at the end of a long distance walk. The food was distinctly more interesting, and better cooked than most pub fare. The waitress, who was very efficient, gave us an honest appraisal of the dishes that we asked about. The overall cost was reasonable. We then had a chance for sandwiches as it was pub quiz night! Our team of 60-somethings was bested by a set of 70-somethings, but we still won a bottle of wine. Overall, a very good night out.

Just had a meal there at the weekend. Got to say that it was pretty average.Had to wait over an hour for it.No apologises given and over a tenner for a 10" pizza. Not worth it!! Standards have definitely fallen. "Popularity killed the cat" as the saying goes.

We have just returned from a two night stay at the Punchbowl. It was our first trip to the Lakes and certainly will not be our last. We were welcomed by Cris who couldn't do enough for us. Our room was lovely, great comfy bed & fluffy towels. We booked a table to dine at 6pm as it did get booked up quickly. The food was superb, the service was Excellent & the breakfast it is one of the best we have had. We would recommend the Pub to all our friends & family & will definitely stay there again. Thank you to David & all the staff.Marg & Bob McAleerDoncaster

The Punch Bowl was the nearest pub to where we were staying within walking distance. We set off on our 20 minute walk which turned out to be 45 minutes so by the time we arrived we were extremely hot and ready for our tea. There was a marquee up outside the pub so we decided to sit in it to keep the sun off us and the dog. There was a reasonable amount of choice on the menu, I chose pâté to start and my husband had a battered king prawn starter, for main we had steak, ale and mushroom pie with chips and veg and an 8oz Sirloin Steak with chips and salad and we had a side order of onion rings and 2 Magners to wash it down with. The pâté was homemade and very tasty, the salad was fresh and crunchy. My husbands steak was cooked perfectly which made it juicy and tender, the homemade pie came with a huge puff pastry top, lots of steak and mushrooms and was extremely tasty. The bill came to £47.70. The staff were very helpful and friendly.

This is a popular pub just outside Kendal on the A65, close to Oxenholme Station. It has a large car park and features a variety of beers, a roaring fire and as part of the attached bar a pool table and tv.The food is pub style with some interesting twists. The starter of chipolata suasges - 8 sausages of 4 different varieties served with a lovely dressed salad was delicious. A variety of roasts were available with pies including steak and black pudding. Also available were a pair of local flounders simply cooked.Busy on Sunday lunch-time, fairly quiet on week-day evenings. We paid two visits which is commendation enough.

As soon as we walked through the door the staff were welcoming and very attentive. The food was lovely and good value for money. We sat outside which is a great little sun trap for those rare sunny days in the Lake District. We would high recommend and we will definitely be back .

An impromptu choice to visit Plato's today and what a brilliant decision and choice. We had a really superb meal and were made to feel very welcome by Ronnie, who looked after us! We had the fish finger sourdough sandwich and the chicken and paprika mayo sandwich...accompanied by parmesan and truffle chips 🍟 😋 absolutely delicious. All washed down with a delightful glass of rose wine. We will definitely be returning. It was such a great culinary treat.

Cold and smelled of dogs on arrival. Waited ages to be served and the waitress was more interested on who was at the bar rather than taking our table order for 10 people. Food was very salty and the steak pie in particular was terrible. Every meal as standard/basic or frozen style food. The whole place is run down and miserable. We went off trip advisor reviews as well on a visit to the area and wished we hadn’t. Go to The Pheasant Inn down the road at Allithwaite instead that was lovely food and fab service.
