Amazing Sunday roast, took my M&D out and they loved it just as much! Great place!

We are on holiday and called in here. I had the chicken supreme and it was amazing. One of the tastiest meals I’ve had in a long time. Disappointed they didn’t have the strawberry cheesecake but I had the chocolate brownie instead and it was very light and delicious. Would definitely come here again.

Really nice pub. Quick service and super nice girls. Ample parking. Super recommended.

Lovely food and very friendly staff

Visited at the weekend with family for Sunday roast. The food did not disappoint, lots of it and cooked perfectly. The staff were very attentive and it was lovely to have some live entertainment and be able to sit outside in the sun.

WOW! We found this pub by accident just driving round, decided to stop for a drink, after seeing the food coming out the kitchen, we decided to have a roast dinner, it was fantastic, the atmosphere, friendly staff and incredible food, 100% recommend, we will be back!!!

We were staying locally and visited a few times as the food and atmosphere were great. Ample parking and we were lucky enough to visit when they had Cornish singers in the bar. Very enjoyable!

We were recommend the Punchbowl and Ladle through a guestbook of where we were staying. We both fancied a Sunday roast so we thought why not let’s book it. Only a 10min drive so super convenient and the menu online looked very appealing. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left all the staff were very attentive. We both went for the beef roast and we honestly were like WOW. It honestly was unreal, and that cheesecake was melt in the mouth delicious. If we are ever visiting again we will make a detour back here and try something else from the menu. The food, staff and atmosphere really was 10/10 ⭐️

We have visited the Punchbowl and Ladle twice this week and both times the food and service were exceptional.

This is one of the very best places to eat near Truro. Superb food all locally sourced and prepared by excellent chef. Generous portions. Especially Sunday Roasts. Dogs very welcome.

This lovely pub instantly became our local while we were holidaying in the area. The atmosphere and vibe are so welcoming, the staff are brilliant - friendly, good banter, recognised us when we returned, and the food just perfect. As a cider drinker I was well catered for. While watching the football there was a truly family friendly atmosphere. We shall return!

Friendly welcome. Enjoyed the drink and food but I thought the menu was pretty restricted. I.e. gravy meal with veg, curry, chilly, meat pie, sausages- I could go on.

I recently ate dinner at The Punchbowl and Ladle and though the food was okay, fairly similar to other St. Austell pubs, they service was shocking. My Korean Fried Chicken burger would have been better without the coleslaw which completely overpowered the gochujang to produce an unbalanced mess. What I find shocking however was the establishment's unethical pricing, with an affogato priced far more than a scoop of ice cream and double espresso bought separately. When asked about this our server simply replied "Well people haven't figured that out." This flippant dismissal demonstrates that they have no qualms ripping off their customers and clearly have no respect towards their clients.

We came to see our favourite folk artist Jenna Witt's performing at the pub. She was brilliant. The atmosphere was wonderful. The staff were very friendly, professional and attentive. The waitresses all looked very smart in their outfits. The food was delicious and exceptionally well cooked and presented. Our dog daisy was made very welcome. The car park was large with plenty of spaces. We will definitely return again in the future.

Found the food very basic without much flavour.,and expensive for what it was. Ate outside, but food was cool on arrival. Staff were pleasant. Pub and surrounding area attractive but would not eat there again.

Lovely traditional pub, we only stopped for drinks on a very rainy day. The staff is really nice and the pub is very dog friendly.

Lovely staff, delicious food what more can you want. We had the squid and mackerel rillete for starters - both were delicious. Then steak frites and steak pie for main, again delicious. Good beer too. Would definitely recommend them and will definitely go again next time we’re in Cornwall.

Great place for lunch. We attended as part of a family wedding celebration and everyone was well looked after. The staff were extremely friendly and efficient. Children's menu was good and they were great at accomodating any changes. Thanks very much!

Lovely pub in a great location. Brilliant staff members, shame the food was very average with a limited menu. £17 for a mass produced steak pie and mash, which was served luke warm.

The food was good and the staff wonderful. We had to change our table time at the last minute and they were very accomodating. It's a great place for lunch, it wasn't our first time and won't be the last. Highly recommend.

Beautiful place, wonderful food and super staff!

The Punchbowl is a lovely old pub, full of character. The barman was friendly and excellent at his job. We didn't try the food, hence the score. Disappointingly for me there was no Guinness only Mena Dhu which I find horrible.

I dearly love our local but disappointed by the choice of food and the haphazard service. Would love to have the choice of some fresh local produce, fish, meat or veg. Seriously lacking on choices for vegetarians and vegans. Will go again as I hope the Punch Bowl can keep on going despite the difficult times it is obviously encountering.

Came in for a roast today and it was amazing!! There was a little wait due to it being so busy which was great to see but the food was absolutely stunning and the service we recieved was impeccable despite the staff being very busy and they made a point o make our experience positive!! The food was absolutely divine! I was able to actually eat the roast with most of it being gluten free without having to loose out on big parts of the roast!! The staff were so friendly and accommodating despite the busy period and the wait.

I enjoyed a delicious roast recently. While there was a wait on food on an obviously busy Sunday, the staff were all super friendly and accommodating. I am gluten free and was over joyed to see I could actually eat a Yorkshire pudding! I definitely recommend, food is so good and drinks are delicious with a nice range of alcohol and soft drinks.

Had the Sunday roast took nearly an hour to be served (surely it's ready to go, just needs plating up). Miserly portion of pork, soggy roast potatoes. Didn't bother staying for dessert.

Had Sunday Lunch. Food was excellent and the staff were very welcoming and attentive. Moved us up to the large room which had a great atmosphere with the chap playing the piano. Certainly worth a visit. Will be back again as live in Truro. Michael and Yvette Wallace.

Whilst staying in St Mawes, on holiday, we were looking for somewhere to eat dinner. Having read the reviews on The Punchbowl & Ladle, we decided to visit. The team were very friendly & welcoming, (we met Lola!) the food was excellent, as was the service! Sarah, Zelie & Jess, made us fell like old friends! Moved to the neighbourhood six months ago and the pub location and feel is great but….the food offering and ‘energy’ level was poor. Dropped in for a Sunday lunch in March and quite honestly, so so so good that I’ve not cooked a roast since as the Punchbowl’s is just wonderful - three weeks running! Visited for meal and live music last Saturday - great evening. Love the menu, ambience and service are great. What a turn around in just a few months! Well done to the new management and all the team 👍🏻

We are so lucky to be within walking distance of our local pub. A perfect venue for a neighbour’s’ night out! Bella and her team have transformed it over the last few months. Haven't been here in a long while as the food went down hill, I am happy to say that the new owners that took over this January (2024) have really turned things around. Nice atmosphere, plenty of parking. Not our first visit. Reasonably busy, staff were pleasant but food took a long time to come out. My steak was really over-seasoned/very peppery but my companions fish and chips were good. Puddings delicious.

Delicious food, lamb mince scotch egg was devine. Had to wait a while for the food but it was well worth it. Good quality Cornish ales available on tap.

A gem of a pub. We live in Truro and this is our favourite pub to go to with our children. The staff are all lovely and have a lovely selection of board games. The food is always delicious and the weekends are always filled with live music. Everything you want in a pub.

Against very stiff competition, by far the best roast we have had. All set in a beautiful location, along with great service and choices of ale. First class tbroughout.

We went today to celebrate Mum's 89th birthday. Lovely pub & very friendly staff. Poor things had a problem with their fire alarm but they tried their best to stop it going off every two minutes....bless them. It did not deter from a lovely meal. We had soup & arancini starters, fish & chips plus gorgeous proper steak pie (not just a puff pastry top!). Even had room for pud - highly recommend lemon posset. Definitely be back & highly recommend.

Delicious food, great menu friendly helpful staff

Lovely local country pub with a very welcoming atmosphere towards new and regular customers. We went in for chicken wraps and a pint for lunch after a walk a Trelissick and couldn't fault it.

Recently visited for Mother’s Day, the food was amazing, couldn’t fault it at all. My friend Sarah works there and made a special effort and gave us the table in the side room which was ideal with younger children. Myself and my mum also received a scratch card for Mother’s Day where we both won a free drink - this was such a nice little touch.

Booked for Mothering Sunday Lunch. Very pleasant waitress dealt with dietary needs in most professional manner. Roast pork lunch served with delicious selection of vegetables, followed by heavenly chocolate mousse and lemon posset. Unrushed service at a very reasonable price.

Popped into the Punchbowl and Ladle for the first time for lunch whilst on our way to Trelissick Gardens. Service was excellent, food absolutely delicious and such a cosy, quaint place to eat! Thoroughly enjoyed our visit, such friendly staff. We found out the place is under new management and it seemed to work seamlessly like a well oiled machine! I have severe food allergies which were taken very seriously and I felt well looked after. We’ll be back for sure, this will become a regular of ours.

What a super Sunday lunch. Went here with my 2 children on Sunday as we knew this has had new management. We had a wonderful Sunday lunch, the atmosphere was exactly what you wanted. The candles lovely touch, dog station, games, wonderful extra touches in all areas and what a happy and warm team. Great experience, thank you Punchbowl team.

Had a drink here on New Year’s Day. It was quite quiet and we enjoyed playing some games. The pub was just about to change hands, so it will be worth validating the ratings again in a few months’ time to see how the standard evolves. I put a 4-stars rating only because the choice was quite limited, which is quite understandable given that new management was going to step in. They had a special deal on whatever was left, which fully offset the lack of choice.

Had a lovely meal in this dog friendly pub close to Carnon Downs campsite in Cornwall. Highly recommended.

Food really disappointing, frozen McDonald's chips quarter of a tomato a piece of lettuce and steak which was actually quite nice , rice pudding some of the rice not cooked and zero favour, wife scampi below average, £86 bill no wonder people don't eat out very often anymore, poor pub food at top prices!

The food was just like is was from a fast food cafe, the dessert was not cooked correctly and dry, the service was far to slow and our meals did not come to the table all together, on arrival we told that a lot of things on the menu are not available or only one portion was available, also the place was cold and no heating, overall very disappointing as it was for a special occasion 👎😡

We had to ask twice for a high chair and throughout the whole service she was very abrupt and looked stressed the whole time. It was like she was annoyed that we were there. When I went to pay I paid the service as I know it normally goes to the whole team. But upon my return my wife informed me that she told my son very rudely to sit down(he was standing next to my wife talking to her). Clearly from the customers in the pub and restaurant she is not used to dealing with children and this may explain why we felt like a nuisance to her and why she was annoyed at our presence. Yes we have children but we are paying customers and I don't expect my son to be spoken to in such a way. There was no excuse for any staff member to speak to any customer, whatever age, in that way. I also sent several emails asking for an explanation with no response.

Recommended by holiday lettings company. Food was average pub grub, older waitress was very grumpy in her manner, moaning at every group of children in the restaurant despite being well behaved.Self imposed service charge,( no prior notice of this being automatically added).

Popped in for a drink and light bite after walking with the dogs around Trelissick. Called back at the pub. Staff not friendly took 20 minutes to get served for a drink having been told to take a seat. Then ordered chips and garlic bread as little choice for lunch on offer. It took at least 30 minutes to arrive and that was after chasing the staff. When it arrived it was barely warm, a pathetic portion and garlic bread was more like fried bread with garlic. Very disappointing, poor service and poor value. As a local I will not be returning.
