Best coffees and toasties in Brighton. We come here regularly after our early morning swim. The toasties are excellent with bread from the Real Patisserie.

I was shocked on observing the owner of this cafe playing beach volley ball in filthy clothes , walk straight into the pump room to make sandwiches without washing his hands and give it to an old lady to eat, no hygiene at all. Handling bacon, cheese and tuna creating high risk of cross contamination. The owner with a braid Scottish accent was also extremely rude to customers sitting nearby , shouting at one man who seemed to be a regular , who replied very politely , I then watched the same proprietor bag up rubbish and cycle it off to public waste bins . It's like a filthy version of Fawlty towers without the humour

I bought some ice cream here today. The ice cream was lovely, but shame about the service. I bought two scoops of ice cream in a tub. It was placed in front and then the server (he looked like the owner), made like he was going. How did he expect me to eat the ice cream? With my fingers? When I asked him politely did he have a scoop, he very rudely answered scoops are here and pointed at a box and then he left. I had to reach to the other end of the counter, over two customers, and into the box to get a scoop and I only have short arms as I am quite short. You don’t expect to be treated like this when you’ve just paid £4.50 for two scoops of ice cream. Usually you would be served with your ice cream in the tub together with the scoop. Quite astonishing and I for one won’t be back. There are plenty of other places in Brighton to get nice ice cream.

When visiting Brighton, our Grandaughter always associates it with ice cream. We called here yesterday whilst on a Snail hunt. She was given the biggest 99 ice cream cone ever. It was huge. She's only five and did manage most of it but her Grandpops finished the last bit. It was lovely sitting here yesterday watching the world go by in the beautiful late Autumn sunshine. If you're passing, definitely stop for ice cream. The toasties looked good too.

Between us, my wife and I, had three different flavours of ice cream. They might as well have been the same flavour. Pistachio, coffee, and honeycomb, all tasteless and very watery. There are plenty of ice cream outlets along the beach front, keep walking and avoid this one.

Pleasant staff, drinks and snax a reasonable price, but as they seem to lack a proper till, the staff added it up in their head, and as not everything is priced clearly - mistakes probably happen. I added my order up after paying, and unless a cup of tea is£2.30 - I was overcharged. Didnt query afterwards as there was quite a queue built up at the counter. Otherwise cheap and cheerful, Toasted sarnies okay.

Situated right in front of the grand Hotel, on Brighton seafront. most days when there is sun, and many when there is not, you will find my dog paddy and me at the pump room, having the best cup of coffee on Brighton beach, Usually people will be playing beach volleyball, in the sanded area right in front, which creates a nice energetic vibe, but without the chaos of the basket ball court nearby. Mark, our friendly Scotsman, who runs the place is always on hand, if he's not playing his beloved sport. But covering in the most professional spirit, is 2nd in command, George, a happy, well motivated Spanish chap, serving up his home made cake. Janice will sometimes take a shift, if she is home from her charity help in Africa, or young Brighton student, Jack . The beauty of The Pump room, is its a bastion of old Brighton, the small local team, fighting against the ever increasing danger of corporations, doing their bit for the atmosphere, of whats made Brighton the best town in England. Everything served at the pump room is organic local produce, Excellent farm Ice-cream, toasties, made with the best quality ingredients. Prices, way below the corporate chain coffee shops. you're very likely to be drawn into a friendly, put the world to right, chat with the locals. The biggest draw back of the World Famous Pump Room, is the difficulty there is to leave the place

It's hard to write about this seafront cafe, open all days, as actually we locals don't want to share our special places. But this is a truly exceptional space, with its own volleyball court, endless craic, cyclists, dogs, eccentrics, athletes, and children, in one of the most sheltered places on the beach. Great Coffee, great ice cream, great sandwiches and unique range of summertime fresh smoothies and easy the best location on Brighton Beach. One of the very few location where the locals enjoy the beach. It even has it very own beach volleyball court directly opposite. It probably is the most famous beach cafe in the world. On the sunniest spot on the beach, in front of the Grand Hotel, drink local Redroaster coffee carefully made by Mark and friends while watching competitive beach volleyball, the murmuration of starlings over the West Pier, or just the people going by. Despite having the best coffee, ice-cream (22 flavours), smoothies, and toasties (with local Real Patisserie bread) on the beach at very reasonable prices, you can almost always find a seat at this fabulous spot, and it's open all year round. There's a loyal, local clientele (of which I'm one), but everyone is made welcome. There are small ice-creams for children, water for dogs, soya milk, decaff coffee, and much else to keep everyone happy. Our two young girls are tolerated as they build sandcastles at the edge of the volleyball pitch, or run up and down the low surrounding walls. It's the most relaxing place we go to with them as it's great for adults and children alike. If you're on Brighton beach, you'd be mad not to come here.
