Day trip to Bridlington or anywhere else for that matter is not complete without seeking out a local Wetherspooons . As expected the Prior John was busy ( 12.45 lunchtime) but we managed to find a table downstairs . Usual order of 2 Buttermilk chicken fillets and a glass of pinot and a beer . Didn’t wait long for our meals which due to the setup of the bar I could hear the order being placed in the very busy kitchen area . Our order was bought to the table by a very pleasant young lady , slim , dark haired and unbelievably polite . Both meals were well presented and piping hot . I don’t think we ve ever had a bad meal in a Wetherspoons . The bar was very busy but our polite young lady was clearing tables nearby and collected our plates . Obviously from the empty plates we had enjoyed our meal . We would definitely return to the Prior John next time we re in Bridlington 😀

This is one of best Wetherspoons I've been in. The building is astonishing both inside and out (it's up there with The Palladium in Llandudno and the Winter Gardens in Harrogate. The snack I had was great as well (a small halloumi wrap) and the selection of drinks is above even the usual high standards for Wetherspoons pubs. Well worth visiting

I’m barred for complaining! We used to meet here as a small group of carers with clients in wheelchairs. It’s always busy & on this day the coffee machines had broken down again! I went to tell the staff decorating the bar for an event! They glared at me & said yes ok we will deal with it ! I explained I wasn’t complaining just trying to help & the way they spoke to me was very rude & aggressive. I later returned to ask for the manager as I was upset! One of these women was the manager I believe & refused to give me her name ? As I was leaving I was approached again & told I had a six month ban as I was “always complaining “ I returned a year later , foolish me , to be told I’m banned for life ! What makes this more upsetting is they recognised my disabled client not me as they tried to throw out my colleague I was sat with us ! Unbelievable I’m 59 years old & this has never happened before! It’s put me off Wetherspoons completely!

I ordered a cheese and tomato panini with my wife`s pizza . The panini contained literally a smear of cheese, so I sent it back. I ate the replacement panini and within four hours felt an upset stomach which led to nausea and vomiting all through the night to the next morning. After reviewing the symptoms with a medical professional, the conclusion was food poisoning Bacillus Cereus with Emetic Toxin. The incubation period is between 30 minutes and six hours with nausea and vomiting lasting up to 24 hours. When I reported the incident to Wetherspoon customer services, the response was to deny any responsibility. Generally the experience had been poor during the past 15months at The Prior John, with a poor standard of food: microwaved salad bowl, grizzly steaks, undersized portions and also very rarely a decent cask pale ale under 4.3%. This is the first time when food consumed has resulted in vomiting and has completely removed any confidence in what goes on in the kitchen. I do not recommend this pub.

Great Wetherspoons. Lovely service and prompt. Very pleasant young man waiting on tables efficiently. Dark curly hair, didn't get his name but he was lovely. Friendly and polite. Food was good, filling and cheap. Recommended. Would call again.

The food excellent, the beer excellent, the desert great the only downside was the group on the table next to us that were very loud indeed however they did leave.

I visit wetherspoon establishments on a regular basis and can honestly say that this one is not the worst, we found the staff helpful and attentive the decor could be doing with updating in places, on the downside the gents toilets are upstairs but at least the ladies and disabled toilets are on the ground floor, on the upside it has quite a nice beer garden to the rear of the premises to visit on the sunnier days in bridlington.

Of all the Wetherspoons I have visited and it’s ALOT this is by far the best. The staff are super friendly and really helpful, the place is light and airy and always clean and it’s just a fab place to have a coffee or lunch.

From the outside it looks like a typical spoons full of character. Inside it looks very nice. Even has a wall full of books upstairs. I decided on my favourite, spicy chicken. It was not on the menu. First Wetherspoon I've come across that didn't have it. The menus themselves seemed all to have food stains and grease. Very unhygienic. Atmosphere was excellent.

Cleanliness is atrocious, tables dirty, lazy looking incompetent staff, don't eat here. Beer was ok but that's all. I wouldn't recommend, there are much better pubs in Bridlington.

Had a steak which was okay. Had a few drinks with the meal. Decided to have a dessert, so queued for ages only to be told they were not serving desserts. Very disappointed. What is happening with this Wetherspoon’s pub? Will be choosing somewhere else in Bridlington next time. It will be their loss if that carries on.

Breakfast arrived, the eggs were red. Not orange but blood red. My partner cut into one and it literally looked like blood. He tried to find someone to complain to but nobody about and a big queue at the bar. We just left, feeling really sick :(

Ordered large breakfast came with items missing , look like it had been thrown at plate, food cold dry been under lights to long queue for coffee machine was so long thought they was doing the conga , one coffee machine for a place of that size staff not bothering to clean tables had to wipe table ourselves will never go there again terrible experience

THE ATMOSPHERE WAS GOOD AND MY EVENING MEAL ORDERED ON THE WETHERSPOON APP CAME WITHOUT ANY FUSS AND THIS WETHERSPOONS TICKED THE RIGHT BOXES FOR ME

Went in for a meal and the whole place was appalling!!! The place was so busy downstairs as it was around teatime 18:00 hours ish. We decided to go upstairs. We found a table for four and the tables around it were filthy. There were menus, cutlery, food and rubbish all over the floor. The menus were sticky and marked. None of the tables were being cleared or cleaned. We asked for our table to be wiped over as it felt sticky. I went to order at the bar, the staff were rude, didn’t acknowledge you well and it took quite a while to be served. I ordered the meals and drinks then went to sit back down. The food arrived within 10 minutes, well 3 meals did but I had to wait another 15-20 minutes for mine. I forgot to order my sauce to go with my steak so I went back down stairs and placed the order. Upon doing this I noticed that my meal was ready. I asked about the sauce and they said they would fetch it up. I said where was my salad as it stated on the menu that it came with it, they said they would sort it. They fetched the cutlery and it was dirty so I wiped it. When the meal finally arrived there was salad but no chips!!!! So I informed the waitress and she said “oh it comes with either or but not both”. This was not made clear on the menu. They took the meal away again and eventually fetched it back, just steak and chips, nothing else!!! My sauce was on the plate in a jug and about 5 minutes later they fetched another jug of sauce. My son who is autistic found a curly hair in his burger, and the burger was burnt in many places. The chips were frozen, you could tell they were. They were awful. We ate the meal as we were hungry and the kids were getting tired. I now wish I hadn’t done. Once finished, I asked a waiter if I could speak to the manager. He asked if he could help but I said that I wanted to speak directly to the manager. A woman came up and didn’t even introduce herself she said “what’s wrong” and not in a polite way I found her arrogant and rude. I explained the issues that we had and she said that she would go and speak to the kitchen staff. Whilst she was downstairs I looked around even further and there were many cobwebs next to the seating areas. What seem to take forever, she came back and said “would one of you come to the bar for a refund”. I said” a full refund” and she said yes. I went with her. She did give me a full refund of £51.09 she never even apologised for me feeling the need to complain. She never apologised about the state of the place, nothing at all. Plus the toilets were also disgusting. I have been to quite a few whetherspoons and this one was the worse by a mile. I will never be returning to this one again. I am going to write to head office as I feel that the complaints that I discussed with the manager will not be passed onto her SMT.

Vastly improved since my last review. Staffs attitude to cleaning has changed. Tables are cleared quickly & are clean on the bases also. Staff are friendly, no issues there. Kitchen pushes out quite a quantity of food, when it’s busy. The team coped with it pretty well. By the time I sat down with my coffee. My breakfast was waiting for me on my table. That’s pretty quick, also the table that was dirty when I walked in had been cleaned. Toilets need checking more. There was a skid mark on the seat. Which may or may not have just been done. The grab bars have dust on & some toilets don’t have dispensers. I only know this because I went in a few cubicles before I found one that I felt I could sit down. But to give a fair review. There is paper masche toilet roll stuck to the sky light. (This isn’t a critism but more of a testament to the mentality of some of the customers.) the sky light is about 20ft high & would be impossible to clean safety without a scaffold. So toilets could do with a refurb but I totally understand why they haven’t had one. They could still do with more regular checks though. Under coffee machine is black & could do with scrubbing. (Although I suspect that it can’t be pulled out because it has a coffee machine on it that is connected to the water supply). Fresh fruit wasn’t available & this isn’t the first time. Why? The markup on fruit must be massive. As I have already said a massive improvement. I could only give a star/mark of 3. As 3 is average & 4 is very good. This place is somewhere in between. If 4 had been good. I would have marked it at that but couldn’t bring myself to mark very good. Great improvement though. Could do with 2 more coffee machines. There’s a permanent queue for coffee. Other Weatherspoons have 2 per station. This one should.

Mixed grills, all day brunch, wraps and nachos all cooked and served spot on. and of course always a bargain at spoons prices

My wife and I visited Prior John Saturday 10th Oct we asked if we could pay with cash no problem gave details then seated near the bar facing the entrance . We stayed about hour and half enjoyed a nice meal and several drinks but the main reason with my review was the customer service . A slim blonde young girl wearing glasses had 5 star customer service skills very friendly , efficient , banter with customers , serving drinks when busy sort of running the place . I work part time in events and stewarding and notice how people treat others this girl was 5 star .

With the COVID19 restrictions going out to eat, is something i have not done because of health worries. But I was taken out for a meal here. When we arrived, (there was 3 of us), we were made to wait outside for nearly 10 minutes, and then we HAD to have the app or it would have taken longer. When we entered the side we were shown was nearly empty ( so why the delay?? you tell me ) but the area was clean, the seating area had plastic partions. The front end staff all wore masks, and unless putting plates on the table, kept a respectable distance, i can NOT fault them at all, they made me feel safe being there. Then the problems started, it took forever for the food to arrive, once it did, it was nearly cold, out of the 3 of us, only 1 managed to eat most of their meal, 1 just about managed half their meal , but myself , i only managed around a third of it, i ordered BBQ chicken melt with jacket potato. The potato was a small/medium size, you could tell it had been in the microwave for too long as it had the tell tale sign of a solid hard flat piece at the bottom, i was give 1 mushroom cap, 1 desert spoonful of peas, half a partially fried tomato, the chicken was hard round the edges, unable to use a normal knife to cut it, there was a bone in it and it was dry, the BBQ sauce on top was cold , the processed cheese slice hadn't melted at all, ( i could peel it back and it stayed the same shape ) the only part of the meal that even looked cooked properly was the slice of bacon. After trying to eat the meal, i started to feel nauseous within about 15 minutes, could not face eating anymore. Because i had been taken there for a meal, i didn't want to make a scene, one staff member noticed that most of the food had not been eaten, and did ask " was everything ok?" which to me was obvious that it hadn't been, when i said no not really but never mind, they walked away. After leaving, i carried on feeling nauseous for another couple of hours. The whole meal cost over £40 , that's £40 we wished we had gone somewhere else to spend, will not be going there again, nor would i make a recommendtion to anyone else i know to try going there, was a severe disappointment.

Tried to have lunch in wetherspoons Bridlington today. Refused entry because we didn't have a phone with the wetherspoons app on. Told to wait in the street till a table became available. Looked through the window, pub was nearly empty. Everyone outside was from the older generation, who probably couldn't or had no way of getting the app. No social distancing was observed outside the pub because of people waiting to get in. Thought sod that and went elsewhere.

Followed the COVID-19 protocols well. Regular cleaning of surfaces by staff was visible. Toilet facilities well maintained. Prompt delivery of drinks when ordered by the APP. Did not eat but enjoyed our visit. Expect nothing less from a Wetherspoon.

Arrived this morning for our weekly scrumptious breakfast, we were very hungry & looking forward to a treat. The weather was atrocious extremely windy & squally rain so as we arrived we quickly entered the building. A customer was waitjnv to be seated so, as requested we stepped back outside not wanting to share any germs either way!! A few minutes aftef the chap had moved away & by now wet & cold we stepoed back intk the empty entrance way to be pounced onby a rather manic (unknown) member of staff insisting that we step back outside. I explained that there was no one within 2 or 3 metres of where we were standing bug she manically began shouting & carrying on!! Needless to sag we werent going to stay & try & explain the premise of Covid 19 rules to such a nutty person so we legged it & had an equally good breakfast elsewhere. Its normally so friendly at Prior John that I was gutted by our experience. Do skmethjng quickly manager please!!

Third visit and each time it’s been a bit of a disaster. Queued to get in, no problems here really, a pleasant young woman took our details for T & T. Found a clean (ish) table, which had been cleared but not wiped. One ordered via app and two of us at the bar, the food came fairly slowly but it was busy, when it came one order was wrong so was sent back now apology from server, who almost implied I had ordered incorrectly, the correct order took a long time to arrive and the others had long since finished eating. One order was for the ‘allegedly’ 10oz Gammon, what came was two very small thin overcooked gammons which was more like thick bacon.So observations:It seemed very full of people compared to other establishments, not much space between some tables? Not a very clear route to access ladies toilets.The app did work a bit slower but the order was correct when it came.Same staff clearing tables as serving food, did not witness any going to wash their hands, although sanitiser was available.Lack of certain condiments.

Got a burger, it was cold, next bite told me why it was raw inside, offered another one but asked for money back as it put me off, was only given back Exactly what I paid, not even my drink, felt staff didn,t see it as serious, very matter of fact, put us all offAlso struggled with the app, when asked for help young staff made me feel thick (were not all good with technology but was trying)

Visited 4 times from the 8th Sept "NEVER" was their any Condiments. From the second visit onward we brought our own which is a disgrace to have to do. Even as bad as this is, we were "NEVER" informed of the lack of Condiments. We know why people weren't being Pre-Warned about the Condiment Issues before Ordering/Paying, it's because the Customer wouldn't Order/Pay. Come on Prior John show your Customers some Respect...

Went here for the coffe as i love wetherspoons coffee.Called back later for a cheeky gin and a good price too.I had to send the gin back 3 times as the glasses were covered in second hand lipstick yuk!!!! Shame as the staff were lovely

We have had many meals here with the family. The staff are great, especially given the difficulties with Covid-19. The food is unbelievable for the price and the drinks are great.... always good beers and ales for a cost where you wonder how they sell them for so little.

The App wasn't working and there was a queue to order but these things happen.As for the meal, i decided to have a gammon steak and on ordering i was asked if I wanted a 5oz or large 10oz gammon. I opted for the latter. What I received however was two 5oz, I presume, pieces of what can only described as two thick pieces of tough bacon. If you order a 10oz gammon it is reasonable to expect a thick reasonably edible steak. I did try to eat most of it but it was hard work although the chips, mushroom and tomato were OK and also the included wine.I have eaten at Prior John's many times before and usually you get reasonable quality for the price, but this definitely wasn't.

Having eaten in other Bridlington eateries the Prior John was far more reasonably priced than some , the service was efficient and the food and drink were reasonably priced , the place was geared up to social distancing and we felt safe while in there

I went in for a drink and to see my friend ..I was absolutely disgusted how they treated a regular customer who goes in there every day respectable chap ...HE IS 90 YEARS OLD the blond hair woman seeing people in would not let him sit on a comfortable table..so because he would not sit where she put him ..they would not serve him ..there were plenty of tables ..come on show compassion..I will never go in priory johns again ..the staff have not got a clue with social distance..you can't get served even when times were normal ..On behalf of the 90 year old man I will take this higher on his behalf ..

Just off the promenade near the fair this is your usual Wetherspoon pub, cheap and cheerful. As always a good choice of drink at good price Although social distancing is in place and they are trying their best to adhere to it, it was let down by smokers outside who obviously couldn't read the no smoking signs. We had been here 5 weeks ago and breakfast was lovly freshly cooked today we didnt get that so much and.also we didnt get the big breakfast we ordered . The bacon was burnt n very dry and sausage bit overdone and so bit disappointed as they usually so good plus not as clean this time or as many staff not sure we go again any time soon which a shame

I have been in many Weatherspoons in the past and this one was much the same. The menu is always vast, catering to many tastes and not being all junk food, however if chips is your thing, they have that too. Seating was difficult on each visit i made here, but tables were at least clean + available reasonably quickly. In terms of Covid regulations, there was social distancing outside + in and sanitizer was immediately available. Menu's were disposable + tables were sprayed before eating. What i like most about the prior John though was the food. Every meal i had here was wonderful, especially the Gammon. As for waiting time, i would say pretty average at around 20 mins. This was definitely the best place i ate while i was on holiday in Yorkshire.

My self and my husband had a nice day trip to Bridlington and it was a hot day and it was a well needed day out and we stopped off and had a meal and a few drinks at the prior John but it was very busy and not organised regards to seating has there were so much confusion has the que was getting mixed in with people at the bar plus the rice on the chilly was dryed up. But still a nice please to visit.

After reading some of the recent reviews, I feel I went to a different place. I was afraid to go in at first but was persuaded. Thought it was well organised. Waited to go in , given the form to fill in track and trace and shown which table to go to. Looked nice and clean but still did my bit and wiped the table and chairs with my own wipes. Ordered on the app and our food and drink arrived . Nice staff. The only negative was the quality of the panini. Wasn’t as good as I’ve had before. No doubt it has got a lot more busier as the weather has improved.

If you value your health under the present pandemic keep away! No restrictions, No enforcement of registration! And no cleaning of the tables or collection of crockery and glasses, even after asking for our table to be cleaned!

Great bar and good service, lots of space for social distancing, we used the app on mobile phone to order drinks while sitting at our table, this took no time at all to be served by the staff , very easy to use this was a good system ...... well done the Prior John.

7 of us visited here on Monday. Myself and my partner couldn’t join our friends as we had our small dog with us. We were told that the no dogs policy included the outside seating area too. A staff member clearly explained the policy so we moved on and dined elsewhere. An hour later we walked past the pub only to see a couple of people sat outside with drinks with their dog sat by their feet. The staff member who had previously spoken to us was outside the pub and never spoke a word to the couple with the dog? Can someone explain why it was ok for the other couple and their dog, but not for us?

barbecue chicken pizza . I do not normally write reviews but I feel I have to mansion the pizza we were served there yesterday . When it arraived I was shocked at the sight of it a four year old child would have made a better job of the presentation . I may be foolish to expect a £4 pizza to be better presented but I expected that the chicken would be marinated in barbaque sauce not swimming in it all over the garnish eat

He made our experience extremely joyful and made me feel like I was at home tucked up. Very caring and very polite. Big love Matty!

Thanks to the staff that made our visit very pleasant. The rules for entering were easy the staff were friendly and on point the speed of service was fantastic and the food was very quick and very nice too. Thanks all of you

We had lunch there a couple of weeks ago I had the skinny chicken burger(mainly because I do weight watchers) and it's good on points, hubby had vegetarian breakfast both really enjoyed it. We have never had a bad meal there

We had a couple of drinks followed by an excellent steak meal here on a week night. The table app service worked like a dream and it was impressive to see lots of staff about clearing tables and serving food. The recent refurbishment has obviously been a great success.

The only gripe anyone can ever have with Wetherspoon is that the service cam sometimes be terrible, with bar staff unaware of who should be served next.Thankfully it's not the case here, plus it's dead handy if you're staying at the Premier Inn two minutes walk away and don't want to pay their prices.

This is our first time in here and we loved it, it has a good vibe as you walk in and it's quite big and roomy. As usual in Wetherspoons the food is always good so we will be back for breakfast in the morning. The staff were friendly as well which always helps. Would certainly be back when in the area.

Been in here a fair few times over the years and never once being disappointed, even better now it’s been extended.. I can recommend the pizza & drink for quality & value.

Myself and my husband visit this pub every time we go to Bridlington and always find the staff are always pleasant and polite the food is always good aswell . Food and drinks are very good value for money plus since the refurbishment plenty of seating

Took my granddaughter here for lunch and was impressed with the cleanliness of the place. Very tidy and pleasant . Got order in at the bar and was served very quickly . My only complaint and it wasn’t a big deal was the jacket potato was small . Came away still hungry.

No better place to be on a cold morning than in Spoons, 2 x scrambled egg and beans on toast, 6 cups of coffee and all for under a tenner! Happy days.

My partner and I went in this morning at 10 45 for Breakfast,first thing all empty tables full of dirty pots,cleared one ourselves.ordered Breakfast at 10 50 contactless machines were not working and chip n pin took 4 attempts, next problem no clean coffee mugs so was given paper ones, next problem 1 coffee machine broke, after 25 minutes enquired were the Breakfast was told delays upto 1/2 hour. After 35 minutes Breakfast came all items bar one was cold,complained to server who said he was a manager and all he did was shrug his shoulders, absolutely a disgrace.dirty pots were still on tables as we left.
