Prince of Wales in Merton

I am an occasional visitor to The POW and always enjoy the atmosphere and the range of real ales on offer. However, my friends and I have just had a great time during our annual visit to watch the Cheltenham horse racing festival on television while drinking a cold Guinness or two. A couple of us were there for the whole 4 days but on the Friday there were 9 of us. We were superbly looked after by Aggie and Lucy for all 4 days and especially on the Friday. We had a reserved table in our preferred area of the pub and Aggie and Lucy kept a friendly eye on us and ensured the “black stuff” kept flowing. A massive thanks to Aggie and her team. We will be back before next March but look forward to our annual gathering. Aggie, Lucy, can we book the usual table please? Oh and 2 pints of Guinness for about midday on the Tuesday!

Nice friendly atmosphere the staff are very helpful and the food and drinks we ordered arrived very quickly and well presented. The staff made our visit and we will pop in again when we are in the area.

We had friends arriving from Brazil and we decided we would meet them in Wimbledon because it was easier for us and then due to their travelling and we had lots of drinks lots of chats and I told them about my Pub that I like coming this place and Aggie is a great host and Aggie and her team were really spot on my friends asked to be introduced to Aggie who made them feel so welcome in the P.O.W we have just received a message from them in Venice and they said to say hi to Aggie when I am next in the pub you have made a great impression Aggie, keep up the good work with you and your team

Good service and well run pub by Sarah - lively pub with live bands at the weekend who invariably hit the mark - worth a visit

Great from start to finish. We were acknowledged straight away which I hadn’t expected on such a busy area. There’s something for everyone with their drinks range and the food looked so good we couldn’t decide what to get. We ordered some Sharing platters and they did not disappoint. The staff even tempted us to try the desserts and I’m so pleased they did. We all said how lovely all the food had been and the staff couldn’t have been more attentive in our stay. We will definitely return here if in the area and highly recommend!

We Came in to watch the Chelsea game for the first time and was really good , the pub was packed and the food was delicious me and everyone I was with enjoyed it we’ll be back.

As a local to this area I've never had a terrible experience at any restaurant or pub in Wimbledon village since when I arrived here 6 years ago. I don't like to give a bad review but as an active member of my own community I don't want anybody else to experience what I did yesterday. I've never had a problem with the pub before and everything is great normally but this was just a very unlucky day for me. I do think it's necessary to mention it because I feel proud of my neighbourhood and don't want to see it get ruined. I came in for dinner last night. There was a brunette girl at the bar. I was right in front of her but she went to help out a guy next to me. That same moment another lady ordered next to me with the blond lady. I was completely ignored. Then another guy came and she went to help him and I decided to speak up. She eventually came to take my order but pretended she didn't understand me and was obviously playing a game. I then decided to walk out and have a brilliant meal elsewhere in the village with fantastic quick service. This is probably the worst customer experience I ever experienced in London ever ! I don't want tourists to experience my neighbourhood like this or anyone else for that matter. I'd incurage the manager to check the cctv footage. I had come in 6th of April between 5 and 7. I honestly hope for the sake of Wimbledon community we can get things back to normal here !

I have not been here for a while but was served by 2 friendly staff Tally & Ben it was very quiet for a Saturday night, but the weather was awful and it is after Christmas and New Year so maybe to be expected it would be nice if the pub refreshed the men’s loos especially the doors as it looks dirty tired dated

They have Ask for Angela scheme and posters in the bathroom as well as sanitary products, tampons and pads for women. It makes such a difference. Also it is clean, spacious, great for watching sports with loads of screens and excellent cider and drinks including speciality drinks

The Prince of Wales pub has the following great things going for it: a) right in the centre of Wimbledon so you have easy access to it and from it almost any time of night b) a surprisingly excellent kitchen - even better than what I expected from what is already one of Greene King's top-end menus. Fantastic burgers especially the one with salt beef added. c) Music is excellent - bands thurs/fri/sat with decent amount of variation without going too "experimental" like some venues, so you've always got a solid rock dance atmosphere. People dancing. But even the standard music coming out of the speakers, before the band on weekends, is well chosen to get the feet moving! d) Super varied clientele - young and old alike, from all walks of life, good ratio between the genders, and certainly a decent cut above some of the other pubs in the vicinity, possibly because the pricing (around 6 pounds for a top end pint) does tend to keep things on the premium side. I've met a bunch of interesting people here. But I want to give a shout out, more than any of the above, to the staff. I don't know all their names, but to a person they're friendly, affable, knowledgeable (I appreciate it when someone actually makes sure to ask how much mixer to put in my spirits), and at the same time, being a in a high-footfall area, they run the show here with real professionalism. There's plenty of "activity" in the Wimbledon vicinity but this place is just super stable and well run. Particular shout out to Agnieszka ("Agi" / "Aga"), the stylish Polish deputy manager, who last night was particularly attentive to a small request I had, taking it seriously and sorting it out immediately. Excellent. Sarah, who runs the staffing here, being the boss, is always friendly and mingles with customers in a most welcoming way, and clearly knows what she's doing when it comes to staffing. Great job.

Friday evening great atmosphere Just wanted to say what a lovely evening was in the Prince of Wales and being looked after by Amber Kat and will all the three staff are very attentive on the ball and on the lookout for the next customer which I like when I’m in a busy pub very polite very pleasant a credit to the management team didn’t stay late for the band but had a great evening early on once again thanks Amber cat I will and Amber let me try to beers from a new range and I chose one this pub always reminds me of a owners pub someone who takes careHe’s always present with a smile which goes a long way once again thanks very much to those three lovely people

It was great to be back in P.O. W PUB in wimbledon great warm welcome from Agi genuine warmth and smile she welcomed us back with that lovely smile as always the place was spotless and we was served by a lady called Tally who was also very nice pleasant so just wanted to say big shout out to this team the barman is always friendly as well sorry can’t remember his name keep up the good work

My friends and I went there last Sunday for dinner and drinks, had the best waitress Emily! So welcoming! Can’t wait to come back!

First of all, they serve my favourite beer - Neckoil and so I was immediately happy. Secondly, the staff are always so friendly and happy. It makes for a great atmosphere. I've been to this pub quite a few times and I have to say they are doing an exceptional job with their social distancing measures.

Went for dinner on a Monday night, place was relatively empty so felt ok. Food was good and plentiful, with the child having the tomato soup and fish finger sandwich, whilst we shared a veggie platter and then had a burger and toastie. Malbec was nice apparently. Tv was on for football, but not too loud if you wanted to have a conversation. Staff were friendly and efficient.

Had just about time for a pint in between the train I just missed and the one I (mistakenly) took in the wrong direction. Clearly not my day, but the folk at The Prince of Wales went out of their way to make me feel welcome and more than adequately protected against the ravages of everybodys' least favourite virus. I am no lover of Grene King beers so I was delighted to see the familiar pump clip of TFA's Naked Ladies rising resplendant amongst the array of beer engines. It did not disappoint. The crowd was a mixed bunch of Chelsea on telly supporters plus one or two thirsty shoppers from the centre opposite. A lovely atmosphere for a 20 minute slurp prior to continued mismanagement of the railway network. Many thanks.

Went to the Prince of Wales lunchtime to watch football. The staff were attentive and extremely Covid compliant. Each table and chairs were cleaned before the next customer. Staff were also prompt and friendly, worth a visit.

Very nice place , no loud music and plenty of room to move around , food was really nice and the drinks too , look forward to going again , oh and the staff are friendly too

Visité Prince of Wales Pub durante mi estancia en Wimbledon. El pub está ubicado frente al famoso centro comercial Center Court. Estaba de humor para cenar y beber. Me senté a la mesa y esperé 5 minutos, pero nadie vino a tomar mi pedido.Un poco decepcionado, fui al bar a tomar una copa. Pedí Pale Ale pero la actitud del barman realmente me desanimó, estaba totalmente en blanco y poco acogedor. Para agregar insulto a mi agonía, me cobraron 5. 80 por una pinta, que es un precio bastante elevado en comparación con otros pubs. De todos modos, tomé mi bebida y volví a mi mesa. 15 minutos más y todavía no vino un alma a tomar mi orden. Terminé mi bebida y me fui en completo desánimo. Esta fue una de mis peores experiencias de pub en la vida.

Just had Sunday lunch. Excellent value for money. Roast potatoes piping hot and lots of chicken. Staff very friendly and pub has loads of atmosphere. Shows all the football. Will definitely be back.

We’ve lived close by to Wimbledon for many years but, for reasons we’ve never quite understood, rarely spend much time there.In this case we were caught between two train times at Wimbledon Station so had time to kill.The PoW is very close to the Station so very convenient.We noticed that it was part of the Greene King Group which was reassuring.It’s somewhat dark as you enter but that seems fairly common these days.We just wanted a drink, or two, so didn’t order any food but did look at the Menu.The range of options is very good catering (pardon the pun) to most people’s tastes.They have live music every Friday and plenty of Sport on TV.The place had a nice vibe about it.The lady at the Bar was very pleasant and had we not had a Train to catch would have happily spent the evening there.

Bueno, ¿qué puedo decir? Mi amigo y yo estábamos comprando en Wimbledon y decidimos venir aquí a comer algo y beber algo rápido. Nos recibieron tan pronto como nos acercamos al bar y nos sirvió una encantadora dama. Pedimos entrantes y comida principal y fue alll precioso. No esperó mucho en absoluto para nuestra comida y también se le dijo acerca de agregar un plato de acompañamiento porque funciona más barato! !Gran servicio excelente pub y excelente personal y comida muy caliente! Popped in for lunch - had the offer with burger or sandwich and side plus a drink. It’s under 8 quid! My girlfriend had the tuna sandwich and I had an open steak sandwich - very pleasant and recommended.

Ate here twice over the Easter holiday. Food was tasty and portion sizes were very good. Service was quick, essential when eating with a toddler! We will revisit when next in the area.

Stopped in here for a quick meal pre-theatre. The good bits: Lovely bar with a welcoming atmosphere and friendly staff. Food was served quickly and my G&T which was well presented. The bad bits: both drinks were sadly watered down. My husband had a neat rum so it was pretty easy to tell it had been watered down. The food was a bit average, not wrong with it but nothing amazing. Still would recommend for a quick stop as prices were very reasonable.

Had a great night at the Prince of Wales. The live band were awesome. All of the staff from the doorman to the bar staff were friendly and helpful and the atmosphere was lovely. Will be visiting again soon.

Great friendly staff, always greet you with a smile - PASCALE! Great food selection, food gets to you quickly, so good if you only have a 45 minute lunch break! Fantastic beefburger!

My girlfriend and I been coming to this place for the past 6 months quiet often, always a great atmosphere and very comfortable sits. On our last visit, Pedro recommended to us the French martini cocktail which was very enjoyable and we end up having a few !! :) we will be back

A sports pub, which I would nornally detest, but this one is an exception.

Pubs atmosphere is great, a band playing on a Friday night makes it all better, having so much fun tonight with my friends! Want to point out one of the barmaids Katrina, who could request the best wine that they have and truly it is great! Definitely coming back next week!! 9/10!

Staff were exemplary. Extremely helpful and welcoming to the children and there was a great selection of food. Apart from the roast beef, which was a bit tough, the burgers, fish and chips and pie were excellent ;-)

Un pequeño almuerzo antes de ir a la ciudad por un par de noches. Rápidamente sirvieron bebidas y notamos en la mesa que ofrece un descuento del 20% si la aplicación se descargó y se usó para pedir comida, lo hicimos y pedimos ahorrándonos un poco. La comida llegó caliente y fue fabuloso. Típico pub inglés con pantallas gigantes y canales de deportes.

I occasionally come here for lunch. The kitchen stuffed up my meal, when I brought it to the attention of the manager she refused to fix it. I wanted a lunch deal which they over charged me for because I didn’t pick a side...

We was only Going to pop in for one or two beers but the atmosphere was electric with the football and the rugby been shown a great afternoon/evening I really want to say a big thank you to Mia Who is always friendly and helpful and ready to serve with a nice smile which makes you feel welcome when you go in the Prince of Wales What’s nice as well is that she remembers what you had last time so you feel part of the pub and treated with respect once again thank you Mia for your great customer service skills regards David my iPad does not let me press the button for service food value but it’s 5 stars for all 5 and especially for Mia 5 stars *****

came in for a couple of england games during the world cup.Service both times was quick and the numerous tvs easy to see.Wasnt allowed to get too busy .Theres live music here various nights normally weekends

Experienced the Prince of Wales as part of a large group on a pub crawl thru Wimbledon, culminating in an Indian at the end of the evening. Others sampled included, Crooked Billet, Dog & Fox, Hand in hand, Rose & Crown and Hand & Racquet. The Prince of Wales pub has seen better days, décor shabby and dirty. This pub needs a facelift.

Great place to come for a drink and a relax after work, staff are really friendly as are the locals.

Como ruidoso, granero, pisos pegajosos y correosos esterillas de cerveza. ¡Puaj! Este lugar es lo que es y lo que es, es una cerveza tipo cueva den, que vibran con música televisión y luces intermitentes de bandidos armados del. Nos encontramos aquí como una cuestión de conveniencia, pero no volveré. En realidad bastante desagradable, aunque estoy seguro que un montón de gente como ella.

Nice place to hang around with friends for some drinks and watch some sport and that's it actually. Apart from the staff which was perfect the food was dreadful. Fish and chips was like one of the worst ever and the burgers were low in quality as well especially the meat. No food for me again in this place thank you very much.

Unable to watch the football in this pub due to the signal constantly being lost. Every signal tv was unwatchable. If you’re going to watch football don’t bother here. East coast IPA was flat too!

POW is part of a pub chain, the food was great years ago, but is now 100% processed and ‘plastic’, really, really bad. The pub is standing room only at weekends. Not good.

Encontré este lugar con mi novia y nuestro amigo como estábamos explorando la nueva zona que nos trasladamos a y estábamos muy contentos. Muy buena comida a un precio razonable por parte bastante decente y un excelente servicio, todos los miembros del personal super agradable y profesional. Sin duda, una excelente lugar para ir por la comida o bebidas.

What a gem. Having only just moved to Wimbledon i was after a new local. I come here for some drinks with friends and was sold straight away! Great selection of drinks. Bar staff were really pleasant. They were always attentive and the place seemed really clean. Will definetly be returning!

Just popped in the Prince of Wales for another time after getting off the train. And yet again found the staff fantastic. I’ve used this business several times now, and even though I’ve been served by different members of staff I’ve always got a warm greeting and quick service. Highly recommend to anyone getting off at Wimbledon Train station.

Gracias a su odioso personal de la puerta. Acababa de terminar nuestra comida y explotar antes de tienda cerrada para el postre, ya que había en el menú, pero 1 una noche de sábado. Aprovechó la oportunidad de comprar algunos de soda que estaba en oferta, y me prohibió volver a ver la pelea de boxeo. Pasamos allí £50. Espantoso!

Without doubt the Worst place to have food in Wimbledon. Seriously, don’t even consider it.

I arrived at the Prince of Wales on Saturday 18/11/2017 at 19:05 and went straight to the bar to order a drink. At 19:14 I was still waiting to be served and when a young male bar tender finally came over to where I was waiting he simply served a person standing next to me (who knew very well that I had been waiting much longer then him) without even asking who was next to be served. How poor and annoying is that!

I have tried many different pubs in Wimbledon and some are good, some not so much.

I use this bar regularly but have never given my feedback there was a lot of people in the bar earlier on in the evening so it was busy I discovered they were going downstairs to a private party what I want to say how good the manageress and her team work really well even in busy times but I want to shout out about Sam this lady is really on the ball watching who's next to be served as soon as she's thanking her last customer she is asking the next one but always with a smile she is a great asset to the pow as are the rest but well done Sam

Fuimos una tarde para tomar algo y comer. Es la típica comida de pub, pero estaba bastante bien. Nada especial, pero no te puedes equivocar con cerveza y sidras en un pub inglés, así que disfrutamos de nuestra tarde aquí.

Vine aquí para beber con amigos anoche. Es un lugar agradable para bebidas. Y un montón de espacio para sentarse. Allí parecía ser una amplia variedad de bebidas. Volveremos pronto a probar la comida.

We vonden de prijs voor een pint aan de hoge kant en verder hebben we niet veel aanmerkingen op deze pub.

Me dejé caer aquí, después de una mañana caminando por las tiendas de Wimbledon. Es un clásico pub inglés con una buena selección de comida y bebidas. Los muebles y el ambiente son muy relajante y es un lugar tranquilo para pasar un par de horas. El personal es agradable y eficiente y esto hace que para una buena experiencia de pub.

Buena comida a un precio razonable para la zona, aunque las bebidas eran bastante caros en comparación con los precios de los alimentos. Disfruté del halloumi. Había una gran pantalla proyector disponible para ver el tenis. Estaría encantado de nuevo cuando esté en la zona.

Vino a ver 6 de las Naciones Unidas y hay un montón de un montón de escaños a elegir espacio, todas con buenas vistas de las pantallas. Excelente selección de bebidas y buena comida también. No tengo ninguna queja, el personal era amable y servicial y nos ayudó con nuestras preguntas y respuestas

The staff are disinterested and have no idea as to who is next to be served and the beer is not kept well- great location but I would not recommend this pub

I visited the Prince of Wales today. The pub itself was great although extremely hot. I asked to move tables away from the radiator. The staff could not have been more helpful and accomodating, I ordered cod and chips and was extremely disappointed. Fish warm and hard inside should be light and flaky although batter nice inside was tasteless and hard to cut didn't want to make a fuss so ate some of it. Did tell them and the waitress was lovely saying they Would change it but to be honest wouldn't want another one or to eat anything else. . Chips not cooked and cold and so were the garden peas. The waitress said the manager wanted to know if I'd like a desert to compensate which was nice so I had the fudge cake with ice cream. Shared it The waitress who also served us our drinks was so nice as was the Manager, but the quality of the food was not great and expensive for what I got. I liked the pub but I Would definately not eat there again as its a lot to pay for such a poor meal, Shame

I have visited The Prince several times over the years and although not my favourite pub it has always been a convenient option being as central as it is. However last week after meeting friends I decided to eat there and can't believe how bad the quality of the food was. After waiting a short while for the macaroni cheese that I ordered it came to our table in what i can only describe as a tiny soap dish (although a bar of soap is rather more sizeable and much tastier I presume). It also looked and tasted as though it had come out of a Heinz tin and to add insult to injury cost me £10.49 (this is the price with added bacon, which i didn't receive may i add!) I would reluctantly use The Prince again for drinks however i would recommend anyone to steer well clear of the food menu!

This pub is probably my last option in Wimbledon, the staff in there are normally rude and don't care to help there was a few months ago one South African gentleman who was amazing but I'm guessing he left as the manager is so rude. The food is ok but I'm guessing majority of it is microwaved and for the price you pay it's not worth it. If your going for a beer then it's close to the station however I would strongly recommend to try all bar one just up the road slightly, I work in a office just opposite the station and the majority of my work now go to all bar one :)

ran out of a starter we ordered so had to choose another and we also had to re order two main meals which they had also run out of so not a good start,but when our starters arrived they were o/k, sadly when the main meals arrived three were o/k but the other three were cold but the young lady who served us was very opolegetic and took them away and swaid that three fresh meals would be made and not just rewarmed and while we waited she came back again and said she was very sorry and refunded us all the meals so with that we can,t really fault their customer service and so yes we would reccomend this pub and we will return again when next in wimbledon.

Went Saturday for lunch, had booked but no indication of this, but still managed to find a table. Some good beers on tap and mulled wine (£3.99 for 175ml) which the wife had three of..Ordered fish and chips, steak and ale pie, tuna melt and soup of the day. Three choices for the soup of the day, which is good, However, the fish had barely any fish in it and was mostly batter, the tuna melt was disappointing, the chips were also quite disappointing (not chunky and nice). So not a disaster, but also not fantastic. Probably keep to drinking here and have food elsewhere...

Taylor Walker run pub in the heart of Wimbledon. Nice traditional decor. Sports on big screens so not the quietest if there's a match on, especially if it's Chelsea. Nice big reasonably priced tasty pub grub portions but surprisingly expensive coffee (?).Worth a visit.

Place was still quiet so it must be too early. Beer was standard but pub food was good. We enjoyed it very much

Regually visit - great for watching the sport. Good food and drink. Clean enviroment and welcoming staff.

Was in area one Saturday morning and decided to pop into the Prince of Wales for a pint.Nice, Large and relaxed old style bar with good selection of beers (usual brands, but a lot of cask and guest ales) and other drinks.Good looking food menu also.If I find myself in the area again in future I will certainly come here again.

this is a place first time I have been there and loved the place I will 100% go back next time I'm in the area...

I have been going here for over 25 years .Yesterday , I went with my son and daughter for a family dinner after work. On arrival ,we could see no free tables ( for 3 ) but the person who seemed the senior member of staff quickly offered to help in a very welcoming way. He said he might ask a single person sitting at a table for 4 people to move as he was only drinking , not having a meal. After a quick trip to the very pleasant loos , the issue had resolved and some customers had left a 4-table. Service was quick and attentive. Our burgers with chips or sweet potato fries were delicious. They don't normally have waiter service to table but were happy to bring our drinks to table and came over to take repeat orders.We were made to feel valued customers.

Who says the British have boring food? Don't believe it! Do try Prince of Wales the next time you are in London. It is just down the street and around the corner from Kensingston Palace so you are sure to find it easily! The decor is quaint British and features who else but the Prince of Wales. Remember there have been a number of men who have had this title. Not just the current Prince of Wales!I enjoyed the Tomato and Roasted Pepper Soup followed with Chicken and Chardonney Pot Pie, fresh vegetables, and mashed potatoes. The food was absolutely delicious! Unfortunately I did not leave room for desserts, but the desserts available looked incredible and inviting!My traveling companion and I were not rushed at all and had time to relax after a busy day of seeing London. It had turned cool that evening so having great hot food was a real plus!

Formerly a coaching inn and highwayman's refuge, now a pub with a flagstone cellar bar & kitchen. Went for a Sunday lunch and staff was very friendly and helpful. Roast beef was properly cooked and prepared. We ended our lunch with a great dessert. Atmosphere is nice and relaxed and in my view is a good value for money!

Its a Taylor Walker run pub. So if you've drank in a Taylor Walker pub before you'll know exactly what your getting. If not it's a formula that I find OK if a little soulless. Decent pint of Guinness and plenty of big and medium sized screens to watch sport on. Service is good (even on a packed St Patrick's night). For a quick couple of pints its fine. For an evening on the lash I'd go somewhere else buts that's a personal thing.

Great tender lamb shank but everything else on the plate was not as good as expected. The vegetables was tasteless. Gravy was ok. The girl working gave very good service.

Much better than expected. I have had drinks a few times previously, but this time we decided to get food on a busy Friday night. Lamb shank Shepard's pie is a must!! Absolutely fantastic!! Tenter flavoursome and reasonably priced. The bar was as expected crazy busy but we didn't wait at the bar and the waiter was polite and friendly! Come and give this place a try
