Prana Cafe in Leicester

It was the best and affordable Italian restaurant so far I visited. The staff and chef was both amazingly friendly and supportive. We had tried vegetarian Cabonara and some other red sauce pasta and it was delicious! Great quantity, taste and very filling !

Prana Café is great, although the chili in the pasta was a little over bearing. I love spicy food but this was a little bit too hot and could have been toned down or come with some side salad

Easily one of the best restaurants in the city centre.

We ate here for my partners birthday and everything was superb! We shared courgette fritters, a pasta dish and pizza, all really tasty. They also kindly wrote happy birthday on the dessert we ordered with a free shot of Limoncello - the lovely staff went the extra mile and it was really appreciated!

omg i went in for lunch and got greeted by Cameron, who took care of me. I got a warm hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows, was so yum😇. got abit peckish so ordered some garlic bread which was quite good tbh. lovely place for lunch 🇮🇹

Been here countless times over the years and its now a completely Italian restaurant. The cuisine is really good 👏 and is lovely for a lil date night, but its also a lovely place to go to for lunch when you want a tasty sandwich, i had the Tuna which was very tasty and the bread was 10/10! Special Thank you to Cameron for the recommendation and amazing service. She is always very friendly and makes sure customer are happy! See you soon 🤍

loved the food!! loved the vibes!! and loooved the service!! everything was amazing 💃🏾🍝. my best friend and I had the 3 course meal which includes a yummy starter, main and dessert under £20 each and did not disappoint. I came to this place with my girlfriend, very aesthetic place, we have been trying to find a local place that does good Italian food for a while now and this is the one, the service was great, the food was great, the drinks were delicious, Cameron was super helpful, made us feel very welcome and was always there to see if we needed anything. I had the Fettuccini Salmon 🍣 and my mouth is watering just thinking about it. It was my first time at Prana and i just want to say thank you for providing delicious food, great music and great service as it is so very rare these days to find a place that ticks all 3 boxes! thank you to Cameron who was very patient with me as well as kind.

whoever’s reading this right now, trust me and go give Prana a try!!! They have a full italian menu now and it is GOOD!!! like mouth watering good 🤭. I absolutely adore the mushroom risotto but i recently went around lunch time and got the Mushroom soup and a latte, it was perfect for this gloomy weather! the whole building is amazing and staff really know what they’re doing! specially thanx to Cameron for always making us feel welcome 🥰

Honestly this was one of the most beautiful Italians I've had the pleasure of trying. I had Rigatoni Con Ragu (it's beef Ragu with pasta and tomato sauce sprinkled with garlic) and the chocolate cake. Usually garlic is not my forte, however last night I felt like I had to get Ragu. It was delicious. The flavours were prominent and the garlic was only there to add to it. I really would recommend going there. The chef should take a bow, they did absolutely amazing. I was served by Sitora the waitress who made me feel so welcomed into the building. She sat me down and took my order as soon as I was ready, totally on the ball. We ended up having a lovely conversation about her artwork after I finished food which is also featured in the restaurant, personally I think it's perfect for the vibe. The decoration in the place is fantastic including a beautiful roof trim that can be seen in the reviews below and also including paintings and artwork on the wall, including one painting that has also been created by Sitora as mentioned previously! I would absolutely come again, very much considering going again tonight, thank you to the chef for making the absolutely wonderful food and Sitora who made my night so lovely!! mmm ragu

OMG, I dont know where to begin. The staff were extremely polite, and always smiling- doing an amazing job. One employee Cameron was super helpful, top tier customer service, and i'll be coming back just to see her face. Customer service is everything and she definitely delivered. The rigatoni was absolutely beautiful, and i'll be coming back for that too. Highly recommend for a date with the partber

I’ve been to prana a couple times now that it has become an Italian restaurant, and its safe to say that its some of the best italian I’ve had in Leicester!! 👌🏼 Ive recommended it to all my friends because the food is gorgeous! not to mention the lovely staff?! I’ve been served by Cameron a few times and she’s been nothing but friendly and a pleasure to be around! 10/10 from me !

Visited Prana not long ago and to say the least I was shocked, the building is beautiful, the atmosphere was phenomenal. I tried seafood tagliatelle and it was the best pasta I have ever tried. The flavours were rich and very filling. The prices are very affordable. Looking forward for their new dishes and Christmas menu. Also I would like to thank Sitora for her amazing service. She advised me to get seafood tagliatelle and it did not disappoint. She was very chatty yet very professional serving very cute coffee with a teddy bear which honestly just made my day😄😄

Me and my friends always look for Italian places in Leicester, mostly we don’t get satisfied with the food but when we came to Prana it did not disappoint. We tried curry chicken I don’t remember the name in the menu but it was curry chicken and it was delicious such amazing taste. We tried the cocktails which were spectacular and the atmosphere itself was so welcoming. Special thanks to our server Sitora. She did an amazing job and made us feel so welcomed

Me and my sister are always looking for cute new spots to go to and Prana fit the bill excellently! I've found it a bit difficult to find suitable tasty Italian options in Leicester but I enjoyed the choice I was afforded here - I specially recommend the lasagne and espresso martini. I'm also a sucker for architecture, so it's no wonder that I was sat admiring the ceiling for a good while. One of the loveliest girls i've ever met, Cameron, handled everything for us. She was very polite, personable and professional in her approach to us and ensured we had everything we needed to leave satisfied. It's nice to go somewhere nice and there is staff there to match. :)

After work I went to Prana because one of my friends was raving about it. I was recommended to get the Arrabbiata and had a passionfruit mojito for drink. Everything was 10/10 and thank you to Cameron who recommended it all!!

My partner booked here so that we could try somewhere different, as we had heard they had a good gluten free menu. We were not disappointed! Gluten free pasta and pizza... the chef even made us a gluten free garlic pizza bread. Food was lovely and plenty of it! We had gorgeous proper cocktails as well (2 for 1). Bargain! But to top it all off was the service. The staff couldn't do more to make to feel welcome. Cameron was an absolute ray of smiley sunshine and made us feel so welcome. We will definitely be back.

My friend and i were looking for a new place to try and stumbled across this luxurious restaurant. We were in the mood for some Italian and their Seafood Tagliatelle did not disappoint! 🍝(tasted as if we were seaside lol) We were blown away by the kind and friendly staff. Cameron took care of us and made sure we had a fabulous night-special thanks to her! we will definitely be coming back soon!!

We visited Leicester and booked Prana. The food was great Italian inspired food (we lived in Emelia Romagna area for 8 years up to last summer so are very familiar with authentic Italian food). The service from Sitofa was pleasant and we had no idea Kian is playing the piano on Fridays and Saturdays - he is very talented and was a pleasure to listen to him work his magic!

Went in on a one off for a coffee and lunch. Absolutely amazing and welcoming experience thanks to our server Sitora who was very attentive to us when needed.

It was the worst tiramisu I have ever experienced. In fact, it was the worst dessert. I don't remember putting anything worse in my mouth, I couldn't even swallow the bite I took :(

Had a lovely al fresco pasta dish here. The weather was cool, yet my pasta stayed hot forever. Very impressed with how delicious it was at such a reasonable price. On the edge of a little town square so doing a little people watching was lovely, I think there was a wedding party gathering on the other side when I was there.

Upon this becoming a newly owned Italian restaurant, I went here and bought the calamari for £10. Due to the price, I was expecting more than five rings on the small plate. The flavour was fine. The texture was fine...but it was just that, FINE. Nothing to write home about. The meal was supposed to be accompanied with a wedge of lemon; mine was not. I went up to ask for one and was waiting ages for it. It was not a busy evening either. I feel like if you're going to over charge on a popular dish, at least make it bang. I've had better value for money with calamari at Sisha cafes, even restaurants in London. £10 for five rings of fried squid is diabolical, sorry. One thing I did appreciate, is that it came with a vegan lemon-mayo. I can't have dairy products so I quite enjoyed that.

Would give this place 10 stars if it was an option. Outstanding customer service, came on our wedding night and was treated like royalty then came back a month later and still got recognised then got a free milkshake!! Honestly could not recommend this place more everything we have tried has been absolutely delicious not to mention how friendly and efficient the staff are.

I used to come here regularly when it was 100% vegan and even reasonably often when they started offering non-vegan options. I would have given it 4-5 stars then. I don't think I will come again now though- they have restyled themselves as an Italian restaurant and the only dish on the menu that I recognise is the vegan breakfast- now much smaller and without vege sausages or vege bacon. Furthermore, the menu said it comes with artichoke and tomato bruschetta, neither of which were there. Most of the breakfast was heavily over-salted too. Very disappointing! (Edit: food was also really quite cold)

Love this cafe! It is pretty quiet every time I go which for me is great, but I feel like it's a hidden gem that more people should know about! I also think it'd be a cool place to open later at night too, maybe to hire out for parties too. The food is good although perhaps some tweaks on the menu like more selection opportunities for the full English. I had eggs royale and would suggest the eggs were cooked just for another minute or so as they had that awkward white runny bit on! Didn't stop me enjoying the food though. Service spot on and I'll be back for sure!

Pleasant atmosphere and a great selection of vegetarian, vegan and non-veggie food. What we ordered tasted good but was a little bit pricey for the quality and serving size, so it wouldn't be a place I could afford to drop in often.

This café is hugely underrated. I eat here regularly and have never been disappointed. Food is great, offering full vegan and non-vegan menus (including gluten-free options). My fave is the vegan buddha bowl! Service is second to none; staff are friendly, polite and knowledgeable about the food they're serving. Calm atmosphere in a beautiful old building. P.S. I'm not a bot nor on Prana's payroll! :-)

Was a vegan cafe and still promoted as one but this is no longer the case. Need to update all social media as this is misleading.

Disappointing. Ordered vegan cheese and tomato baguette with basil. It arrived with mayo on it ,so wasn't able to eat it. Sons mushroom soup had a hair in it. Edit to reply : hi , i couldnt eat it as i dont like mayo , I wouldn't of ordered it if I had known it contained mayo , or would of asked for it to be left off.

I visited Prana with my Mum who is vegetarian. We chose Prana due to the vegetarian menu and the repurposed building. We enjoyed the casual, relaxed vibe and we were impressed with the interior design. The menu was varied and offered meat and vegetarian dishes. We enjoyed and would highly recommend the vegetarian kebabs and the vegetarian meatball rice bowl. The prices were reasonable and we felt that we got value for money due to the amazing flavours and generous portion sizes. Prana is a healthy lunch option and you will leave feeling satisfied.

Got the salmon with eggs and toast. Tasted fresh and everything was cooked just right. Berry Pancakes, portion size is big however too much processed berry’s and sauce made it very sickly to eat, had to leave it. Coffee was very nice. Will be back to try other things.

The building is so beautiful and the food was honestly some of the best I’ve had in leicester. The chicken and rice had so much flavour and the vegan cookie was so soft and chewy. The staff were also lovely. 10/10

Food is overpriced and not worth the money. The restroom didn't even have any hot running water I could wash my hands with. The venue was dark and gloomy.

Lovely deserts and warm atmosphere.

First visit to this lovely cafe, after walk around town, prefect for lunch, you can have big lunch or just a snack, I had cheese on toast and coffee it was really nice. The building is so big, clean, even the toilets are beautifully clean definitely go back.

Went in for breakfast. Ordered 2 different dishes. Place wasn't busy, one couple who came in just before us and a couple more tables were already taken, so expected fast service. Disappointingly, we had to wait pretty long for food, to the point that we pretty much finished our coffees before receiving dishes. My partner got his food first, and I had to wait for mine (it seems "chef" could only manage one dish at a time- you can see it being prepared). The plates food was served on were stone cold, making the cooked food cold pretty much immediately. The toast had hardly any toasting on it, and "butter" was some sort of cheap margarine spread. They forgot ingredients in my order too... Ambience - the music played from sort of scratched old CD, kept skipping through the songs. Overall disappointing, I hope they improve.

We love this cafe. It has something for everyone and the staff are so friendly. This time we had a burger and a pizza. Wow! We are gluten free and really trust this cafe and the gluten free buns and pizza bases are so yummy.. we feel like we are eating wheat based products.. or better!! The smoothies today were great too. Came here for my Xmas dinner with the family. Everything was spot on, service was great, staff were very helpful and polite. Loved the atmosphere warm and relaxed. Food was really tasty and had lots flavours. I can honestly say the desserts are amazing we had the Strawberry waffle and a xmas cake.

No longer vegan, no longer plant based, barely wholefoods. Prana still has a "Plant Based" vinyl window decal, which would deceive people into believing this was still a plant based establishment. - Still as of 21/12/2023 Outside on a wooden planter they still have a sign saying "100% vegan", which would deceive people into believing this was still a vegan establishment. Inside on the wall they have the definition of a wholefood, while serving an ever increasing amount of processed foods like meat alternatives, burgers, and pizza. Not that I have any problem with eating or being served these things, but a cafe priding itself on serving wholefoods should probably have a think about this. Also, the menu is not a "100% vegan and non vegan menu", it is strictly a menu. McDonald's does not have a "100% vegan and non vegan menu", KFC does not have a "100% vegan and non vegan menu", they simply serve some vegan options among their corpses and excretions. Also there is no accessibility to the building for people with mobility issues, so much for "inclusivity".

Nice place to have vegan, although they have now started non vegetarian options as well. We have been here couple of times before for breakfast. Today we went around lunch time and ordered coffee, cakes, eggs and lemon chicken. Am afraid, the chicken with rice was over-salted which the staff checked and offered replacement We agreed for this as take away, when we checked later there was a little portion of rice. No chicken. The dish was for £15+ Bitter disappointment. Aside, the egg was on poor quality bread and very bland. Coffee and cakes were nice. Poor show.

This is an amazing cafe with a great atmosphere and vibe. The food is amazing and the customer service is excellent. I would most defintely recommend this place you will not be disappointed.

The venue is nice and the food is OK, but it’s very over-priced. The staff are hopeless though - service takes ages and they frequently make mistakes with orders.

First time visiting Prana today and served by Sukh who could not have been more helpful. We came here specifically because we Googled Gluted Free Cafés in Leicester. So glad we came here. The Gluten Free and Vegan options menu's are very well provided for and thought through which is excellent. I enjoyed a black coffee which is their own smooth blend. Coffee lovers would enjoy this smooth roast. The salmon and brown rice was very tasty as was the Buddha Chicken Bowl. A nice atmosphere with friendly and well informed staff who are happy to help and answer any questions. We felt well looked after and will definitely be coming again. Thanks Sukh and the team. 😊❤️

NOT VEGAN ANYMORE! They've gone full meat. This used to be my favourite cafe and restaurant in Leicester. The food is overpriced but I didn't mind because it used to be totally vegan. Now it's not even vegetarian. They serve eggs, beef, pork and chicken. I will no longer support this place and I'm devastated. My recommendation is World Peace Cafe.

I used to come here when they first opened with my vegan bestie. After lockdown, with all other places offering vegan options, we would go other places to eat for birthdays as we only eat out sometimes, and meat eaters would want to go places where they could eat meat. We came here last night as Prana now offers a non vegan menu, and I'm impressed. No other place has a full vegan menu and non vegan menu! My bestie is happy as she can choose from a whole menu and not only 2 or 3 things like at other places. Gluten-free options are in abundance, and us meat eaters have great choices, too! Truly an inclusive place to eat, food is so good, staff are lovely and live music was fab!

This place has amazing GF and Vegan options (they also have meat options). You’ll get a whole range of options for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert and hot teas. The owner Sukh is very kind and has great energy. Although the front entrance isn’t accessible, a ramp can be put down easily for anyone using a wheelchair, plus toilets are accessible too. Highly recommend and would visit again.

I’ve been to Prana many times and this place never disappoints! The food, atmosphere, Friday & Saturday night live music, it’s all amazing! The staff are so friendly and welcoming. Keep up the good work Prana. I’ll be back again very soon!

Me and my partner went for dinner here and safe to say we were blown away, we both ordered from the plant based menu and it did not disappoint. We had the mighty not meaty pizza and the vegan kebab, and both were so so lovely, especially the home made naan bread. We’d definitely recommend this place.

We've been coming here for a while now as the vegan options are lovely and my son loves the cake, but now they've expanded the menu I can come here with my non vegan friends and family as they can cater for everyone. They still have the fab vegan menu and now non vegan choices for others. I'd rather this so we can eat together with plenty of choice for everyone and to make sure places offering this sort of choice for vegans can stay open and it's sustainable. Still my favourite place in Leicester.

Food is way too expensive for what it is, especially desserts, portions are small, service is very slow. We had to wait 40 minutes with 2 hungry kids yo be served on our last visit. Disappointed on our last 2 visits and won't be going back.

The food was never good when a vegan restaurant, but it was worth supporting the ethic, now even worse food quality and service is still non-existent. And to make the experience even worse, the owners/managers are rude. Edit following owners' response: my point is made, their attitude and the atmosphere in the cafe are reflected by their online behaviour. Cannot take criticism and accept that some people did not enjoy their expensive yet more than average food... Any negative comment is responded to by: you're an aggressive vegan. We are not even vegans!

This place is amazing. The building/decor is beautiful. Staff were excellent. I had their vegan full English breakfast and it was spot on, cooked to perfection. The service was brilliant, definitely be going again.

Prana is a great cafe when it comes to its food and atmosphere, with friendly staff and nice vibes. Unfortunately it recently made the decision to begin serving non-vegan food while maintaining the same decor and signage which just scream "vegan!" There are even PETA brochures by the exit, encouraging the lifestyle. Ultimately this resulted in a long-time vegan in my friend group purchasing a poorly labelled baguette and promptly feeling uneasy once they realised what was in it. The same goes for the milkshakes which are, again, primarily advertised as being milk-free. Prana has long been established as a vegan cafe so it is disappointing to see this shift with little warning.

I do not recommend. I ordered two plant-based options: buddha bowl with meat balls and stir fry rice with tofu. Both dishes should contain brown rice according to the menu, but neither of them had it. The rice was overcooked and tasted horrible. The amount of tofu or meat balls within the meal was barely noticeable.. Stir fried rice that is served with vegetables consisted of: carrot, peas and corn covered with turmeric. No signs of soy sauce that is advertised in the menu. That dish didn't have any flavour at all... Avoid going there as it is a waste of money and time.

I went with a few friends for an early lunch; the food was excellent and delicious and the service was great. I would recommend Prana to any of my friends. Also one of the great things about Prana is the building it's in; it is reminiscent of an old style restaurant that I have found in Europe - high ceilings, large windows, lots of decorations, chaise longs and decorative chairs. I do go there occasionally as I do like the ambience and atmosphere.

Been going here since it opened. Coffee is amazing, food is delicious and the deserts are the best! The service is also great, with friendly staff. I’m vegetarian but my husband and kids aren’t so it’s nice that they focus on vegan food but have now also started to serve meat options. I appreciate we are all different with different tastes and beliefs so a bit of everything in under one roof is great! At least I can enjoy coming here with my family now.

I used to make an effort to come into Prana where they were a vegan cafe to support them, but the food was always average, the service slow and the bill very expensive for the quality of food and experience offered. My last visit was so disappointing, again that I would now say definitely not worth a visit anymore.

Highly recommend this place, went on the weekend and got myself a hot chocolate, cake and a spicy bean burger! It was so yummy and the staff were lovely too! I love the decor and atmosphere was pleasant. I would definitely go again :-)

Lovely cosy cafe. We have been here many times and enjoy the atmosphere. The food is great, they have a great vegan breakfast and my favourite was the afternoon tea. I would definitely recommend this place. You can also find nice big slices of vegan cakes which we always like to take away. Great menu 😊

I have been to Prana numerous times and every single time- it has been an amazing experience. The staff are accommodating warm and helpful. I have always been greeted with a warm welcome and nothing is ever too much for them. I have taken my daughters too and they love it - the last time they had the vegan Oreo milkshakes and absolutely devoured them! From the decor to the atmosphere -it is amazing. I recently went to one of their music nights and this was phenomenal - just adding to the wonderful atmosphere. I have now seen that they have introduced a non-vegan menu - which I look forward to trying next time I visit. Would recommend to all.

I have been to Prana Cafe about a dozen times with my wife and 2 young children, always felt welcome, service and food is great. Highly recommend this place to everyone. I have now seen that they have started to provide meat options too and I am excited to try these options as their food is always spot on.

My husband and I went and visited Prana as they have now introduced a new menu. What can I say... Wow! The food, service and atmosphere is Amazing! As I walked in, I was greeted and sat at my table. I was given time to look at both vegan and non vegan menu and make my order. The food came out in a good amount of time, and was so delicious! The atmosphere was very lively, with music playing (but not too loud) & staff were welcoming. I also took my young baby, and it's the first restaurant where we were catered too. I was given a baby seat, and also cold water to cool milk down. This was very helpful and made my experience very smooth. I ordered my mains from the non vegan menu, and my dessert from the vegan menu. I like how the choice and the quality of food was really good! I will definitely be returning.

Had a terrible experience with an afternoon tea which my partner posted about before. When they saw he had wrote his own review about the experience the communication about getting my refund turned to asking me to change or remove the review that wasn't mine. So my partner felt obligated to remove the review in order for them to even proceed with the refund. He added the review again after I got the refund. Personally it is disappointing to see this cafe turn to non vegan options. They say it's due to the fact they can't keep up with competition which I totally understand and I'll never discredit that. However all my vegan friends have never had very high opinions on the quality here. I feel like it would have been easier to look into making their food better before going to non vegan options. Really disappointed with the reply my partner got. And it seems like other low star reviews are getting similar responses. The 1 star my partner gave was for the terrible service and experience we had not because they decided to start serving meat. We eat in non vegan places all the time so really doesn't bother us eating in such a place. Hopefully you yourselves can look towards kindness before jumping to your own conclusions. I wish them the best but I won't be visiting again. Edit - we arrived 15 minutes early. Which you coldly said "oh you're early". I told you I was happy to wait till 1 if you needed time. You sat us down and told us you would send somebody to clean our table and get us a drink. Multiple people arrived after us and had their tables cleaned and served before us, who had pre-booked. We waited till 1:18pm as we had limited parking time to get lunch that day before leaving. Which we didn't think would be an issue because we pre-booked. You didn't communicate at all during our time to explain you were busy or needed more time. This reply is completely out of order and honestly should be ashamed of yourself. I'm not sure if the pressure of rising prices and lack of business (as you've already stated) is getting to you but it's clear from your replies and how you've replied to me you lack customer service skills. Really really disappointed in these replies. You have a right to your opinion but so am I, so don't make everyone on here seem like some sort of bully for having one.

Prana Cafe offers a comprehensive vegan menu and one of the best in Leicester. The vegan food is excellent and I would recommend it. Having been a pure Vegan Cafe for almost 5 years, they want to respect their vegan menu and are taking extra precautions to prevent any cross contamination with their non-vegan menu.

We had a vegan afternoon tea booked for one o'clock. We got there nice and early and we waited over half an hour and not once did anyone come over and take our order. And they are now doing non vegan menus. Very disappointed and will not be going back there again.

It’s always been expensive at Prana for what you got, but that’s generally the case with a lot of vegan restaurants. Sadly this is no longer a vegan restaurant as they will be selling animal products. Take your money and find a better, ethical, option in the city.

This business was clearly only vegan in the first place to ride the wave when veganism surged. If they were vegan for any other reason, they'd still be vegan. Disappointed that they have now alienated their main customer base. I for one won't be returning. I give this business a year max, now they've diluted themselves to be the same as every other restaurant. Bad move. Really bad move.

Sellouts. The owners were never vegan and now the menu reflects that too. SO relieved I didn't place my wedding cake order with them now.

Not interested in customer feedback, won't be going back. EDIT AFTER RESPONSE - Freedom of choice for animals? Oh no, someone said 'money' so who cares about that, chop em up and serve em up. Making the comparison to somewhere like Tesco is rubbish since Tesco never pretended to care.
