Whats the point they do not answer the phone nor acknowledge a booking their Face Book site is pathetic no wonder their lakeside venue died as well.

Fantastic atmosphere, brilliant staff, I had a vegan wrap and chips, it tasted delicious and not like fake meat which I personally hate, my other half had the hotdog and chips and she said that it tasted better than TGI’s, it has a great little menu which shows great variation, highly recommend

Visited the restaurant last night , first time since reopening C 19 and was delighted to see plenty of people taking up the governments August meal offer , we had pre booked and were shown to our table by a waitress who was polite and curteous . All the staff were wearing masks and we felt quite safe due the other customers being well placed apart from each other this is a very spacious restaurant. We prowsed over the reduced menu and chose what we wanted to eat , the waitress took our order and it wasn't long before our starters arrived , these were well received ,eaten and appreciated . It wasn't long before our main meal arrived which again was well received, it was well presented and tasted as good as it looked. We will certainly be going back again as we all felt very safe in this environment and we were well looked after as usual . We'd like to thank the staff who made our visit safe and friendly and we will certainly be returning back there

Visited this evening with friends of 50 years hoping to take advantage of the government's meal deals. What a total shambles. First of all we were told that dogs weren't allowed, even outside. There is minimal signage to support this. We ordered drinks to be told we couldn't run a tab, not even leave a credit card behind the bar. Then when we ordered food and the order accepted then we were told that there was a 40 minute wait for food despite the place being quiet. We've only got one chef on we were told. Why? Then this wasn't available, that wasn't available, all the time I'm walking backwards and forwards around the 'one way system' relaying messages to our friends. I feel for the the staff who are badly led, poorly trained and frankly have been dropped in it from a great height. All in all a total disaster.

Visited with family and a toddler. The staff could not have been more accommodating or friendly, nothing was too much trouble. We all had the roast which was really good value and a large portion, vegetables all fresh not frozen, generous meat portion and a pudding all for £14.90 excellent value and will definitely go again, seating is not too close together and across the road is the canal centre to walk off lunch. All in all a great experience.

Don't believe went to same place as previous review, 17 people (was meant to be 18). held Christmas Lunch last Friday. Group unanimous, Excellent meal, Excellent & friendly service, one of our group could not find place and Sue held up serving till he arrived. This was 2nd year we held event and was better than last year. Background music was playing, which they turned down so we could talk, no problem. and one of our group was also ill, did not even consider there would be a reduction, Potters has to pay for food ordered. As for atmosphere, yes, the place is quiet. that's a marketing problem for Potters, but its a Christmas party, you make your own atmosphere. Thank you Sue, Marina & everybody, see you next year.

Booked for our volunteers Christmas meal. Absolutely no atmosphere, not even any music playing. One of our party was ill so couldn’t attend, they took the full cost of the meal instead of just the deposit. Salmon dishes were cold and had to be returned. Could not use being busy as an excuse as it was dead. Vegetables cooked to mush. The vegetarian tart was absolutely disgusting and inedible. The best thing was the Christmas crackers. I pity anyone having Christmas Day lunch there.

Worst Fillet Steak (if indeed that was what it was) I have ever had. Is this supposed to be a Steak House they can't cook Steak was supposed to come with Garlic Butter none, Onion Strings none, Garlic Butter none, asked about Garlic Butter Waitress said she would get Chef to make some ! 10 minutes later a pot of melted Butter with crushed Garlic floating in it that is not the Garlic Butter I was expecting this was a pot of Fat ! also waited over an Hour for Dinner and it was nowhere near busy. Staff apologetic and I did not have to pay for my Steak and took 10% off rest of Bill but that is not the point was told not the regular Chef on duty not really an excuse for very poor Food. Attended on a Sunday lunch time, we prebooked a table in advance thinking it would be busy after being recently refurbished. We arrived at the car park, which was totally empty on one side and a few cars on the other side of car park, in an eight seater people carrier, which had no tools of any form on board but was suitable for two disabled occupants. We parked in the area of the car park where all the other vehicles were parked, which was not full. We were then greeted by the owner of the business in his own car which was the same size as ours saying we could not park there as it was a commercial vehicle, we explained that it was not a van, it was infact their car. We were then made to park on the other side of the building as it did fit in with the image. The owner then drove around the car park in his own big car and parked in the car park space we were forced to move out off. In the car park there were three other mini buses (commercial vehicles parked. Nobody can even see the vehicles parked whilst eating their dinner apart from people playing pool or darts. Its a shame we were made to feel very unwelcome before we had even entered the building. May be this explains why on a Sunday lunch time there was only two table occupied in the main restaurant. The staff and meal was very nice, its a shame about the owner. We will not be attending again.

There was no signs to even suggest that no dogs allowed in the garden area or pub grounds as we looked. Nor did we see any signs that they did not serve food after three or before five pm. As previously read atmospheric conditions was Ivey from other venders in place all of 4 people two male staff rude and disrespectful female bartender seemed ok but won’t bother returning to that place or any others with same name in future will defo avoid.

Lovely location by the canal but we very disappointed by the service; after ordering we were kept waiting well over an hour. We were eventually served after pointing out for a second time how long we had been waiting. Then our starter came at the same time as our steaks! The excuse was that one of the bar staff was new - a straight apology would have been better - it is not up to the customer to make allowances for the staff - and no attempt was made to make us feel better about having paid for the starter (dipping bread and olives) which, because of its lateness, was completely superfluous. The steaks were ok but one side order was missing and the coleslaw serving size (miniscule) was a joke. Because we ordered from the bar (in order to eat outside on a wonderfully warm evening) we had to pay up front, otherwise we would have disputed the bill. Needless to say, we did not stay for pudding or coffee.

Popped in for lunch. I ordered the fish and chips, my wife had the spagetti bolognaise and son opted for a burger. The burger was good. On the flip side, my 'beer battered cod' was a rather grey colour, flat and tasted like your average supermarket frozen offering with equally flaccid chips. My wife's spagetti bolognaise was very tasty, but a tiny portion akin to a child's serving. We pointed this out to the (delightful) waitress who apologised but that was it. My wife opted for a nice Eton Mess pud. So, nice staff, quite a pretty setting but some shortfalls in the food.

When back to this place after about 3 years. Things had changed. The Bar seating area was empty ... The usual restaurant Canal View seating area was partitioned off so could not sit with a Canal View. Was confined to the Bar area. There were no midday snacks on the menu but did asked if there was an alternative. The Barman did find another menu and we chose 2 x BLT and one Gammon with peas and chips. One coffee and one half of larger and one half dark beer. Total was £30.70 which was a bit over the top. After about 10 minutes 7 children came in with their parents an run riot and the parents could not even bother to stop it. One youngster was pushing a baby in a pram around the restaurant and the other kids were screaming. We mentioned it to the Barman and he said next time we could go into the POSH part of the seating area. The screaming kids were playing with Toys located in the ENTRANCE to the pub which was a health and safety issue. A elderly gentleman walked and seeing the kids running riot walked out. Them another four elderly people got out of their car and walked though the door entrance.. After about 30 second they also left. This is a place to avoid at all costs...............

Having lived in the area for most of the last 30 years I've been into potter's now & again, until the recent refurb it was always best avoided. We visited after the refurbishment last year, had 3 steaks which were all good. We went back today to celebrate a combined birthday and Mothering Sunday. They were running a special menu which we'd been asked to pre-order from - great, no problem which we did by email & had confirmation of our choices. Arrived there, the steak house had no steaks left... Our pre-order was essentially ignored, we went for other options which were pretty mediocre across the board.Service was pretty slow, value for money pretty poor (the restaurant didn't appear overly busy) & no acknowledgement as to how badly wrong they'd got it.

How would I describe Potters? It’s more than a Harvesters, for certain. Is the bar a bit soulless and feel like a Premier Inn on a hangover. Yes. However, they serve a nice pint of Hogsback TEA and it’s good to have a good local ale on tap. They do struggle with the idea of chilling their white wines though and should really listen when people says it’s too warm. So, the $64,000 question - are the steaks good? Yes and, for a place that advertises itself as a steak house, that’s good news. We all had steak (2 filet and a 14oz T-bone) and we were all happy. I asked for my T-bone done medium and it came out redder than I expected but, in all honesty, was tender, well-seasoned and tasty and I was perfectly happy with it. We had a bottle of the £22 Bordeaux and it had good tannins and acidity and was good value. It’s a good local steakhouse that fills a niche in the local market. I’ll go back.

Having been here a few times before over the past ten years, (only ever visited when on narrow boat hired from Galleon marine for the weekend). Must admit a few years back it was tired and deserted most of the time. The refurbishment is new and I can only describe it as a Resturant that you might find in an upmarket holiday camp. Slippery fake leather chairs, etc. It's a lot better than it used to be but the food is about on par with a harvester, but then it's not especially expensive at all. The food was all ok and nothing to moan about but it was all pretty middle of the road. It served a purpose for us but wouldn't really head there as a destination.

Wow , very impressed , had a lovely evening , booked online , the new refurbishment looks great , with the added bonus of it overlooking the canal , with good seating outside . .We had a table for 4 , and it was my mums 70th birthday , and the staff were very accommodating ., singing happy birthday to her . Food was really, really, good , great size portion , and a good selection . Lovely friendly staff and manager. Will certainly be coming back again ,

Used to be awful, but lots of money spent & well worth it, 2nd time eaten there, very good steak based menu, excellent staff, a really pleasant evening, c£75 for 3 of us main meal & couple of rounds of drinks, a bit more expensive than usual Chef & Brewer menu but well worth it, nice ambiance.

It was with great interest that we dined for dinner and it was also the official opening night. The total refurbishment is excellent the difference too people who have eaten here before will amaze them. The table décor and all crockery is now into the 20th century and suits the refurbishment. The menu is not extensive as is the wine list but it is enough and it is all good or it looks all good. The prices are still reasonable even with the slight increase. The peace, tranquility and stunning location have not changed so this is the venue to visit. The food we had was well cooked beautifully plated and a delight to eat, the chefs have really done their craft a justice. like all reviews if you believe their is a problem then it should be aired and the problem is the service staff we had on the evening. They had a lack of knowledge of the menu, wines and service skills they were all very pleasant but with the new look and style of the new Potters Restaurant they did not suit or seem to fit in at all. That said it will not stop us once again becoming avid users of this establishment and how great that Mytchett now has another excellent place to dine.

We called in for one night and the place (which is large) was unoccupied but for us: and they still managed to give us a 'double' instead of a 'twin': this was after they tried to overcharge me when booking online. The barstaff handle reception and while it was sufficient, they were more interested in serving customers. Dealing with any queries I had resulted in phone calls to someone anonymous. In the evening, when the few locals had gone, the manager took over and a more uncommunicative person I have yet to meet. He managed to avoid eye-contact for the whole two hours we were there and it was made obvious that he wanted to shut the place (early). He spent the entire evening hunched over the far end of the bar doing paperwork and getting service was becoming an art form the later it got: we were gone by 21:00hrs as we were leaving, another customer came in! I feel that he would not have been popular. Another BIG problem was the music, oh the music!! As we were the only people in and in our 60's the loud rap music was also a subtle hint that he wanted us out. Any request was met with a grunt but we did manage to get it turned down to a mild scream: eventually.Breakfast was presented as a fait accompli, 'you can't have breakfast, there is no breakfast chef' so in the morning we dropped our keys into a box on the wall and left without seeing anyone.

Under 18's not allowed in the bar areas and are asked to leave. The food was something out of the 70's along with the general decor. Dreadful place.

This was our first visit to Potters which was introduced to us by friends. We will certainly go there again. The surroundings were very nice, looking over the Basingstoke canal. We went for lunch and it was not overly busy in the huge dining area which was nicely laid out. The staff were very attentive and helpful and the food was excellent with a very good selection of all courses. The prices were moderate but this was a lovely dining experience.

At least the poisonous bar maid has departed. Drink bottled stuff only as anything on tap is a bit dodgy.

Unlike other similar hotels drinks were reasonably priced and enjoyed the food. Be aware no breakfast is served on Sat or Sun which was a bit strange. Someone said because it is in an affluent area cant get staff to come in and do it!

Brilliant everything you ask for not the most extravagant venue but we went to enjoy ourselves and we got what we wanted worth a visit and I believe belongs to the same owner as the International hotel

Situated on the Basingstoke canal, a perfect spot you would think for cyclists, dog walkers etc to stop at. However when we got there with our dog, there were signs even outside saying no dogs. It's not like it's a posh place, the decor looks 40 years old and the food didn't look appetising either. The waitress said that the owner has a strict policy of no dogs, even outside!Rather head further along the canal to The Swan, much friendlier smarter place with great food and decor.

This is by far the worst food ever, I felt I have waste 40 min of my life spending it at this pub! The service is poorly, unfriendly, not dog friendly, simply won't recommend this at all!

This is a large restaurant serving low end meals. There were 4 of us and I chose fish and chips. It was awful, soggy batter and fish that did not seem to be fresh. We had ordered a platter as a starter and that didn't arrive and while we were eating staff were clearing up and moving furniture in readiness for the next day. Notice boards around the place were advertising Mother's Day and Easter even though it was May 5th! A very poor strategy of promoting a venue by a manager who clearly doesn't care.

Tell anyone around Mytchett that you are going to Potters and the chances are that they will pull a face and make a disparaging noise. When you ask what is wrong with the place they say so and so had a bad experience there, push them further and it transpires that they have never been there themselves. We have been coming to Potters fairly regularly for more than ten years and for the most part we have had little to complain about. We find it rather sad that the restaurant is practically empty when other places in the area are bulging at the seems. Yes it does look a little third world in parts with some rather rickety furnishings but so what its cheap. To look on the bright side we can always get a table. The place has a large bar (At this point when I do a review I say "I like bars") well I don't like this one it has at least five televisions all showing some type of sport, usually football and naturally a pool table. So if this is your thing this sports bar is for you and you can enjoy the big match on Sky. If it is not, Avoid.I want to take this opportunity to say thank you to Sarah who runs the bar and steers the restaurant, she has been here for longer than we have been coming, she is the glue that keeps the place together. So dear reader, Potters is really not so bad, give it a try and see for your self.

I really love this old pub, the atmosphere is great and for a beer it is perfect. However the food is a bit mediocre - filet steak and pork that is dry and over cooked, deserts that felt re-heated. Wine was great, but service on this day was average at best.

Great food , great value , but they’ve got the whole thing wrong about companion dogs . It’s against the law to refuse entry to anyone with a companion pet as long as it is behaved - there’s no official register by law . Simple . It’s in the equality act of 2010 , it’s anti - discriminatory. I shouldn’t have to keep explaining this , or be asked . Wetherspoons are wrong but as long as they want to keep going it’s okay as all we will get otherwise is more and more bureaucracy so carry on. They know they’re on a sticky patch .
