After being told from the reception woman only have to pay for drinks . Very tight tables other couples felt squeezed in too.. Tbh evening meal very over priced . Yet breakfast was so different . Nothing to fault there, staff lovely ... It was a shame !

The restaurant had clearly had some form of makeover from prior reviews, possibly rushed as paint splashes and marks were evident on light fittings etc. nice atmosphere though and pleasant enough to dine in. The menu was limited but had a good choice of options. On the first night we had the mushrooms on sourdough toast which was really nice followed by the lamb rump and wagyu burger, again both really nice. Other half had sticky toffee for dessert which again, was nice. Second night we skipped starters and had the fish and chips and chicken breast, again both nice but there was a large bone in the chicken breast which was clearly a rib bone. No massive issue and just mentioned this as a general comment. We were then informed that the chef said he cannot guarantee any bones in the meat, again not a massive issue but maybe this should be stated on the menu? Generally the service was good, staff were attentive but timing was an issue. Drinks did take a long time to arrive on both visits, on the first night they arrived just after our starters did. It also seemed very rushed, no sooner had you finished your starter and within a few minutes, your main was at the table. Whilst the majority of the staff were good, one waiter (short shaved hair) could possibly do with being retrained. The restaurant boasts fine dining and is clearly aiming for this. However, the staff member in question has little time for this and quite literally slams the plate on the table, this was also picked up by fellow diners who he was also serving.

Falafel nibbles set a good tone for the evening. Starters of mushrooms and burrata (mozzarella) both beautifully presented with good flavour. Main courses not as good as starters or dessert. Chocolate fondant dessert was delicious. The best thing about the restaurant though is the staff, all were helpful, friendly, polite and attentive. Well done to the team.

Would never recommend. Had to eat there during our stay just because we didn’t want to travel to somewhere else as we wanted to relax as much as possible. Atmosphere very bad with torn chairs. Food very over priced for what it was. Service by young amateurs who were running around like crazy when there were only 10-13 tables filled.

The venue is stunning but the whole set up is weird. If the restaurant, is full you can order from the bar but eat in the lounge but you will get told service will not be the same but you can order from the restaurant. Nevertheless, the food Is overpriced for what they give you. I do not mind paying a premium but if I am ordering 28 pound medium rare steak, I expect a medium rare steak.

Tried bar the menu too but fish goujon sandwich translates in reality to cheap fish fingers in economy loaf sliced bread SO, don’t visit here for the food Swimming pool & gym save this place but only for a day trip

We had afternoon tea at Macdonald Frimley Hall 2 days ago. We were told there was no tea menu, offering 4 basic teas. Online, the restaurant reports that it offers 8 teas, including Darjeeling, Assam, Sencha and chamomile. When I went to add milk to my tea, it had set and was spoilt. I pointed this out to my waitress who apologised and got us another jug of milk. The 3-tier stand arrived with finger sandwiches on the bottom, scones in the middle and cakes on the top. I had to point out that we had booked for 1 x vegetarian so they brought a plate of the same sandwiches with the ham one removed. They were very disappointing. The bread was stale, the cheese and ham sandwiches were filled with what appeared to be thin, pre-cut, budget slices sold in supermarkets. The cream cheese tasted sour and was either cheaply bought in or had gone off.The scones with clotted cream and jam weren’t bad, though the jam required cutting. The scones seemed home-made, were warmed which is always a plus point, and edible, though a little doughy in the middle. The cakes on top included a chocolate choux cake pop (OK), a miniature Victoria sponge (tasted like it was bought in Iceland and defrosted), a chocolate macaron (standard) and a small Japanese finger which was actually quite pleasant. It was a very disappointing experience, as they usually charge £25 per head for this service. We will never return and would advise others to steer well clear.

Had to contact hotel about 5 times to make a reservation for birthday afternoon tea party! Every time someone promised to ring back with arranged time and more details. Nobody did. I had to chase them again and again. On the day we stepped into smelly old and dirty room, where we had to wait for about 40 minutes and then were treated with “not even average” afternoon tea including very dry (with the crust!!!) sandwiches and supermarket scones.Tasted old, dry and absolutely disgusting. We were not able to eat it but the worst part – no one mentioned a word about the birthday. BUT it was arranged and promised during the reservation. As food was still there we asked the boxes to take it home and were told there are none. We managed to get a few bits of the foil to wrap it up!!! I still cannot believe it! Well, it went to the bin anyway as no one wanted to eat this trash food.In addition to that the bill was calculated wrong and we had to wait for adjustments for about 20 minutes. On the way back I explained the situation at the reception and nobody cared at all. It was a lie (all waiters were gone, it was nobody around). I was polite and asked for explanations. Someone run to me and told to write email to them with all the details so they could see. I did! Nobody answered .I did write additional to the manager of the hotel and HE DID NOT ANSWER.Shame on you for ruining birthday party, for all your lies, for not even saying "sorry" for our party, for ignoring my emails!

I wanted a nice venue for afternoon tea, it was a little treat for our 37th wedding anniversary before going on holiday. Afternoon tea was fine, I've had better and I've had worse. There was a total of 6 people in the restaurant so it was very quiet and maybe why I noticed the back ground music more. Listening to a song with f***ing* in the chorus is totally unacceptable. I sent an email and got no response, which was also not very good. Hopefully they took notice this and changed their music.

Although Sunday night is usually quiet, the earliest booking time we were allowed was 6;45 PM for dinner. We prefer an early booking so that the service is usually quicker and more efficient, but not on this occasion. The menu offers limited choices food and no lactose-free menu for my wife, who tried to glean information from the waitress on what meals were lactose free; this resulted in frequent visits to the kitchen by the waitress. I ordered mackerel for a starter and was presented with a ham terrine, which resulted in a 15 minute delay whilst the correct meal was presented. For the main course I ordered a rib-eye steak, cooked rare, which attracted a premium charge making the price £30.00. Regrettably the steak was well-done, the opposite of rare, and was returned. This led to another 15 minute delay, with my wives meal also being returned to keep warm and therefore dry. How can a restaurant get two consecutive meals so wrong? The desert was difficult to order because there were no lactose-fee offerings on the menu, but the kitchen did provide a fruit salad which was off the menu. For the length of time taken to order three courses, we would have expected the manageress, who was serving tables adjacent to ours, to render an apology for the poor service, regrettably no apology was forthcoming. We appreciate, that English isn't the staffs first language, but even allowing this, the dinner was a poor experience.

Avoid..avoid avoid appalling experience. ok accomodation but avoid restaurant. Was with a large group and for the evening meal ordered a Burger, simple enough you may think...WRONG it came our stone cold..ok simple mistake and easily rectified.WRONG AGAIN it was sent back ...10 mins later after the group nearly finished their meals my meal returned with one bite out of burger the whole meal, roll salad etc just microwaved. So I ended up with no meal as by now everyone else had finished. So how did the hotel deal with this..well avoided the group for the rest of the night We had to get our own drinks and after 1 hour after chasing the manager to get the table cleared he got someone to take our dessert orders at 1030pm!!!. So my experience was bad but I was not alone the rest of the group's meals were cold and of poor quality. Eg the £36 steak was of lessor quality and quantity than you get from Wetherspoons. In summary nice hotel the worst food. Cheap poor quality ingredients prepared by someone who csnt cook. if you are thinking of staying or having a wedding here then your better off eating in the local wetherspoons. I did raise my concerns and it was met with a shrug of the shoulders and avoidance..you have been warned.

So all in all it wasn’t a great afternoon tea-we went on a Saturday and when we approached the reception desk to say we were here for afternoon tea she kindly directed us down to what we thought was the restaurant but it turns out it was a conference room of sorts??! And oddly the room was just filled with other people having afternoon tea - nobody was eating anything else or having anything else to eat which instantly alerted us to the fact we were not in the main lounge/restaurant area and the fact that the staff were carrying meals through the conference room we were in from the kitchen and then out the other side further confirmed this! And I really would like to think that if I had of paid the full price which is £25 pp I would of have had a lot more variety regarding the afternoon tea and certainly more of an atmosphere- my concern is I was in a room where some people had paid full price for this poor experience. I think it would be polite to mention somewhere if they have lowered their standards due to it being a groupon offer!

He wasn't really attentive to service, for instance whilst visiting our table he did not realise that our water jugs were empty. He also kept trying to relentlessly upsell us items thoughout the meal. The female waitresses were polite and pleasant, however.I asked for a gluten-free roll, which they had (good) but when it came it was only half microwaved and still half frozen (not good). We had to wait a while for the main course to arrive and my meal was only lukewarm, practically cool. We were looking forward to a family meal to celebrate a birthday and had considered lots of places locally. What we experienced here disappointed but with some decent heating and a few more diners this would have had more going for it. As it was, we froze - avoid the table furthest from the door on the left by the window! They turned the heating up but it wasn't enough. Apart from our large group there were two couples but they were round a corner so it appeared we were on our own. It was very quiet!Another oddity was that we were kept in the bar - someone was supposed to fetch us when the restaurant was ready - when we sat down it was a good half hour after we'd arrived. Starters were promising, they looked good and tasted good too. My smoked salmon and trout pate was served with a horseradish cream and dots of apple gel - unusual I enjoyed it. My main course was beef served with a jus (which was a rather thick gravy). The meat was very tender but fatty. Two small pieces of parsnip, a slice a carrot and a teaspoon of cabbage were served with it and garlic mash. It was ok. Pudding, a creme brûlée with stem ginger, sounded fab but I'd have liked more ginger. The main waiter and waitress were both attentive and friendly. The deal was three courses for £22.95, so it was good value, but it could have been better.

Great food , great value , but they’ve got the whole thing wrong about companion dogs . It’s against the law to refuse entry to anyone with a companion pet as long as it is behaved - there’s no official register by law . Simple . It’s in the equality act of 2010 , it’s anti - discriminatory. I shouldn’t have to keep explaining this , or be asked . Wetherspoons are wrong but as long as they want to keep going it’s okay as all we will get otherwise is more and more bureaucracy so carry on. They know they’re on a sticky patch .

I really love this old pub, the atmosphere is great and for a beer it is perfect. However the food is a bit mediocre - filet steak and pork that is dry and over cooked, deserts that felt re-heated. Wine was great, but service on this day was average at best.
