After walking round we found it was slim pickings for cafes in leyburn ( our first visit to area) really shocked to find none were dog friendly. But we sat outside with our coats on and hats . We ordered the hot beef sandwich which comes with chips and slaw . Wasn’t cheap so was expecting good things , I was however left disappointed. The beef was really fatty , was forever having to pull bits out of my mouth , so chewy ! And the home made chips were really hard . Really disappointed, at £12 a sandwich I felt robbed . Wouldn’t recommend nor would I return.

I called in with my wife whilst out on a day trip. We were delighted with the whole experience. The service was efficient and friendly. The food was freshly and expertly prepared and presented. The choice of meals available is excellent and based on what we had, we could confidently say that whatever you choose, you will not be disappointed. We look forward to returning on our next visit to the area and can highly recommend the Posthorn for its quality and good value for money.

After receiving a friendly friendly were shown to a table. The breakfast was of a great standard with locally sourced produce and was piping hot which made a refreshing change with a strong pot of tea.. The young staff were really friendly. The only slight disappointment was the waiting time for our food and home cooked chips as opposed to frozen would have finished off my partners order of the hot beer ciabata but we will definitely call again if visiting the area.

Food was pleasant but service was rude, particularly from one staff member, as if I were an inconvenience. She took our order down wrong and rather than graciously accept the mistake she made a point of returning to our table, infront of other diners, waving the order tab at me as if that proved she was right - I responded by clarifying that all it confirmed was she had written down the wrong order. We couldn't wait to finish the food and leave, & will never return.

Friendly welcome especially as we were very wet. Shown to a table. We didn't wait long till our order was taken. I had a very generous sized tuna salad sandwich and my Husband had some Victoria sponge cake which he said was perfect.. We did go back the next day before our 5 hr drive home. I had a very tasty cheese sconce, my Husband had ham, egg and chips. Once again good food and friendly staff.

We were hoping to find somewhere to experience a delicious cream tea. As we are visitors to the area we were not sure we would find such a place. Leyburn didn't let us down, we found this extremely busy tea room and cafe. The service was friendly, keen to help and extremely helpful. The Tea and Scones were to die for, no wonder people were queueing for a table..

The warmest of welcomes. Our daughter has a milk intolerance and the owners (lady out front and husband chef, we think?), we’re very accommodating and helpful. We had a children’s breakfast and two regular breakfasts. The food was lovely, very clean (i.e., not an oily mess!), bacon and sausage clearly top quality farm meat, everything was spot on. My only reservation, and reason for 4 stars instead of 5, is that it’s quite expensive for the size of meal you get… the regular breakfast has only one sausage and one egg, which isn’t huge for a tenner, if I’d added in a couple of bits to make it a good belly buster I’d be well into 15 quid or more, which is a bit steep i think. One more sausage and an extra egg and this would be one of the best breakfasts I’ve ever had! Thanks, we will return!

Five of us came for a light lunch. Unfortunately they don't cater for large parties so we were sat at a table for four with six people next to us also on a table for four! We persevered and had various snack dishes. I shared a cheese scone with Wensleydale cheese and a piece of fruitcake also with cheese, with my wife. The quality was nice although the portions were a little small. Others had baps filled with sausage and eggs served with chips which were more substantial. The tea and coffee here is very good and we bought some packs of it for home. Overall this is a very nice cafe if a little cramped and slightly on the expensive side.

As a scone connoisseur with many decades of experience, I can safely say that the Posthorn's scones, both fruit and cheese, are first class. The coffee is extremely good as well, and the waiting staff are efficient and friendly. As a local I pop in at least once a week with friends and we are always made to feel welcome. The prices are competitive and the pleasant atmosphere has a busy buzz. Tables are cleared and cleaned promptly (nothing worse than seeing other people's breakfast remains) and orders are taken quickly. A traditional café that serves Leyburn locals and tourists extremely well and is always a pleasure to visit.

We popped in here whilst passing through Leyland and expected more based on the current Tripadvisor ratings. The menu was quite limited but we all managed to find something, which was fine. What was most disappointing was the rude rolling of the eyes by the waiter (possibly the Manager?) when I asked how large the flat white coffee was and if he could go a little easy on the milk (instead of filling it right to the brim). I don't feel that this was an unrealistic request based on how measures can differ across different establishments. The food was fine (if unexceptional), but I would not return and the rude treatment soured the whole experience.

My wife had a hot chocolate which she was very pleased with but I ordered a 'specialty' cafetiere of coffee that was described in terms such as chocolaty, dark and rich. When it came it was disappointingly thin and weak. The woman serving it said that her instructions were to use two tiny scoops of coffee per cafetiere and I wondered if the size of the scoop had been changed since these instructions were first given. She dealt with it well and gave me an extra scoop but the result still didn't quite reach the description in the menu. I would have expected something like two rounded dessert spoons of coffee for a pot of the size used, to produce the promised experience.

The front room of the cafe is welcoming, the outdoor area is good on a sunny day though service was a little slow so we moved inside. the rear seating area is a little dull with no views. Service was excellent and clearly the team here have adapted well to the current COVID situation (constantly cleaning tables/ workstations, immaculately clean toilets, hand washing & well thought through layout etc.). There are lots of placed to stop for coffee in Leyburn so it had been a while since we dropped into The Posthorn. I am happy to say that the cake was just as good as ever - the Victoria sandwich with lime was light and had just the right balance of sweetness and zestiness. A cafetiere for two gave us both several cups of coffee and so was very good value and the usual good quality. Glad we stopped by.

A place we visit every few months whilst the menu (specials) do not change very often the food, ambience and friendliness remain unfailingly pleasing. Consistent quality, regular staff who brilliantly remember the locals names and orders and have a very good balance between friendliness and efficiency. Despite being a touristy location they do not exploit this and offer a good place whenever.

We called in for a coffee and scone/toasted teacake en route to Hawes. The cafe is attractively furnished and the menu is on the tables and also on the board inside the cafe. Even though this was January, the cafe was reasonably busy, but the service was good and the drinks etc arrived promptly. The coffee and hot chocolate were lovely and my husband enjoyed the fruit scone. I had a teacake which was fine.

The location is simply fabulous. At the top of Swaledale with views all around. Set up for walkers - so friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the area. Mixing with fellow walkers meant a very sociable stay. Room was good size and comfortable. Restaurant bar and lounge were of high quality and brought a high enjoyable stay. Matt and Dave are great hosts. Thoroughly recommended.

No beer on draught, no food available. The only drink on tap was from yorkshire water. Don't know how the landlord makes a living, rumour is he has funds hidden in a barrel of Wensleydale Gold.

We visited 20th October 2024 for a meal for our sons birthday. We always go for special occassions however the meals were not as good as normal . Myself and daughter In law chose the bottomless Chinese my Husband and son chose trio parmos and my other son chose the Barney rubble mixed grill . Our table was booked for 6.30 we sat for 20 minutes and I had to ask Bar staff if we were to place our order at the bar to which she said I will come to your table . Long story short we waited and waited when the food finally arrived the trio parmos were extreamly dry and very hard unedible really . Very dissapointing experence .
