Good friendly service. Fab food (great Whitebait), all in a very atmospheric bar displaying lots of nautical ships and items related to Lord Nelson and the Victory. A great place to bring people from overseas who don’t get to experience this sort of unique experience right on Poole quay. Fabulous.

Apparently Badger Ale Tangle Foot is best served totally flat, no head, no life, just like a cold cup of tea. Yet next door, the same ale comes with life and a head. Don't complain though as they will gang up on you and say we serve ale this way down south, even though we live here.

Just returned from Portsmouth Hoy after a superb Sunday Roast. We both had beef which was so flavourful and tender. Great fresh veg and really good gravy. We succumbed to the Dorset apple cake which we shared but couldn’t finish. Huge portions. Good wine. The landlady was very welcoming and the young serving staff were excellent. Will definitely recommend and return.

We needed to find somewhere dog-friendly for an evening meal with older family members. The Portsmouth Hoy is exactly what you’d hope for from a quayside pub. Good selection of well-kept ales, friendly helpful staff and attractive surroundings with a cosy atmosphere. The food was pretty traditional: ham & eggs, gammon steaks, sirloin steak with chips & peas etc. I went for mushroom risotto, which was tasty. The food did take a long time to arrive - over an hour from when we sat down - but we didn’t mind as the beer was so good! We would definitely visit again.

Absolutely delighted with our lunch today. Fabulous recommendation from George from City Cruises. Food was beautifully presented, freshly made and cooked perfectly and served by a charming waitress who was friendly, polite, attentive & obviously enjoyed her work despite going in to her final uni year! ☺️ Little wait for the food, absolutely acceptable as it was cooked fresh & was no problem added to the expectations ☺️ Would 100% recommend in every way and will definitely go back next time we’re visiting our friends in Bournemouth & Ferndown. We are a professional couple, who dine in a range of eateries from pubs, gastro pubs, fine dining. The pub inside was interesting, nostalgic & like being in a mini museum, delightful. You will not be disappointed. Highly recommend. Well done team & thank you. ☺️

Well they can do chips and gammon steak. Looked good but the spaghetti was not at all. Basically mince onions and a bit of rosemary was mistaken for bolognaise. I'd rather they just dumped a burger on top of the pasta. Best but was the bread. Sad and it's no wonder they seemed to knky be serving fish and. Gammon. Together with 50 or so others, after the Hampshire Police Open Sea Angling competition, we thoroughly enjoyed our tea-time visit to the Portsmouth Hoy for the prize presentation, a couple of pints and an eagerly awaited meal. The very nice landlady looked after us with a lovely, friendly manner and exceptionally efficient too. But the real star were the Cod & Chips thoroughly enjoyed by everyone! I never use the word 'amazing' but the chef did produce 50+ plates of the very best and freshest cod in a delicious crunchy tempura batter, large portion after large portion. For my money it was a perfect pub example of this traditional British fare, fittingly on the day before D-Day, nor, as far as I can remember as good as any Fish n' Chip shop that I know of too - although some may have been close? I hope to return one day to sample more of the fare on offer. Thankyou it was amazing!

Had three big chunks of crusty bread with plenty of real butter. The landlady was nice and welcoming and the young server was sweet and even found out what was I. The sauce for us. This quaint & cosy pub has so much potential but sadly is so lacking in everything else. The bar woman was unwelcoming and rude, but above all else - the food was awful. The battered cod (with the skin on??) had a texture of wotsits and was completely flavourless; even the chips were bad. The macaroni cheese tasted like a cheap box mix, and it was the first (and hopefully only) time a mushroom stroganoff has been served with peppers and a side of grated cheese?! Was this menu designed in the 80s? Expensive and awful, it appears The Portsmouth Hoy feel because they’re in a port / tourist town with never ending renewed footfall, they can slip on quality and get away with it. Our entire party felt unwell after eating here, and I would save your money and avoid at all costs.

Food came out pretty quick, but they had served tartar sauce and mushy peas instead. I decided to accept this as I don't mind this option. I have walked past ‘The Portsmouth Hoy’ on numerous occasions but this afternoon was the first time I have been in. The pub is very cosy yet surprisingly spacious. The staff were friendly. I only wanted something relatively light for lunch. A crayfish tails in Marie-Rose sauce sandwich fit the bill. It was generous in size and with a well prepared side salad. Drinks of Badger ales were also welcome. There was no background music which meant that I was able to sit, eat, drink and converse with family members without distractions. The ‘under 18’ rule was enforced whilst I was there meaning there were no screaming children to ruin the ambiance. This is a lovely pub. We visited on a Sunday in June 2023, having popped in around 6 months earlier for a pint just before they closed. This time we were there for opening and after checking the menu decided to try the Sunday Roast. We weren't disappointed as the staff were friendly and welcoming, and the food was out of this world. Both the Pork and Beef options came with all the trimmings you'd expect and the veg was especially delicious. Really good portion sizes too. It did get quite busy whilst we were eating, so booking ahead is probably advisable if you want to guarantee a table. But whether you're there for food or just a drink, you won't find a friendlier pub on Poole Quay.

I visited this establishment recently, the food we had was good, I definitely recommend the burgers, definitely better than your average run of the mill pub or bar. The staff and other customers were friendly and welcoming. We all had a great evening and are going back for Sunday carvery 100 percent !! Roll on Sunday
