I visited this establishment recently, the food we had was good, I definitely recommend the burgers, definitely better than your average run of the mill pub or bar. The staff and other customers were friendly and welcoming. We all had a great evening and are going back for Sunday carvery 100 percent !! Roll on Sunday

We came for drinks sat upstairs in the cocktail bay had an amazing evening. We were looking after incredibly well and I thought the drinks were well priced.

Had an amazing roast dinner ,nothing was too much trouble the friendly service from Pietro was first class,The glamorous Shiraz packed up meat left over for my cat.The atmosphere is always welcoming .my favourite place to go .thank you I will be back.

We collected our Christmas lunch of turkey and beef for 3 people. The meal was lovely. Lots of everything and all cooked beautifully. We will be having our Sunday lunches delivered again during the current tier4. Thank you

Being a fan of Penn’s sunday lazy roast I decided to take advantage of their Christmas Day dinner as I’d been really busy in the run up. I must say it didn’t disappoint in the slightest! Everything was on point and we literally had so much..very impressed! The turkey deserves a separate mention as it was probably the most tender I’ve ever eaten! Well done Ben and all the Penn team..it made our Christmas Day so much easier! Highly recommend!

Such a warm and inviting atmosphere for our first trip post lockdown 2, staff were as always so welcoming and ensuring everyone’s safety. Great menu choices, lovely food and happy full tummies all round.

Picked up a lazy roast from here as a treat. Couldn’t fault it for portion size abs selection. The leeks in cheese sauce were an extra bonus! Pick up was so easy and staff incredibly friendly. Very Covid safe. Will be doing this again as well as booking a Table as soon as we are allowed in pubs again. Lovely.

Just had a fabulous roast takeaway from here, pork loin and my friend had beef, so delicious, gravy amazing and veg so tasty and perfectly cooked. Great friendly service, well priced and I highly recommend it. Thanks!

Have ordered a collection from Penn many times. We have also had their weekday offerings of Boeuf bourguignon and curry. Never disappointed - such lovely food and helpful friendly staff. The roast usually has differing seasonal vegetables always prepared to perfection in generous portions. Always a firm favourite whether we eat in or collect to take home! Thanks penn

I met a few friends and we had lovely spot of food and drinks. The service was amazing and having been to Penn many times before for a Sunday Roast I knew the food during the week would be great and we were not disappointed. Amazing friendly service and great all round. The decor also looks amazing.

Davud williams5 reviewsOn Sunday the 25th Oct we visited Penn central for a Sunday roast .We were recommended by a friend and we always follow up on recommendations.I must say that this was the best recommendation I have ever had regarding a Sunday roast which is high on our list.we had beef ,turkey and pork ,and plenty of it .the meat was in abundance and cooked beautifully,The beef was medium rare and melted in your mouth along with the moist turkey and pork.the vegetables were really fresh with plenty of choice along with Yorkshire puddings ,a rich gravy and condiments.Without a shadow of a doubt this is the best roast lunch I have ever had.In Addition the surroundings are very modern and stylish.And the staff were more than helpful to all of our needs.I was told that they are opening the upstairs restaurant on Halloween 31st Oct with full a la carteMenu After a refurbishment .I was also informed that this is a fish and seafood restaurant amongst other items .We will visit again anyway if only for the roast.Top marks to this great establishment.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️See you soon.David WilliamsHighcliffe

The chef Ben made sure personally that we were happy with the food. The quality is amazing and given the current restrictions the staff couldn’t be more helpful! The mid week deals are great! I’ll be back at the weekend for the beef and sea food specials

Absolutely lovely meal on the Eat Out to help out scheme in August! £3.50 burgers were amazing, would easily pay full price! All of the staff were lovely and excellent service even tho it was very busy. Social distance was great and although not all staff had PPE, they were very considerate.

Street foods great! A quality Beef bourguignon, dauphinois potatoes and greens on a Friday ... with prawn starter and chocolate cake ... can’t get better value.

That was an "interesting" reply "Owner at Penn Central" .. One would think you would take the opportunity to defend any of the comments made ??? But its hard to defend the truth isn't it ? Lazy & half-arsed reply - there's a surprise! Instead you try and imply we are all alcoholics ? Personally, I find that quite offensive as I have not had an alcoholic beverage for over 6 years now !!! . Oh well - Haters are going to hate. At no time was it ever mentioned that any part of the payment would not be made... and as well you know, the full payment was made without question or fuss. Successful businesses will under promise and over deliver so unless you take a good look in the mirror you are doomed to fail . Just look how packed the bar just a few doors along is.

Well, where do I start? met Mr Ben Manners on Friday the 1st of February 2020, to discuss holding our dads celebration of life on Saturday 15th February 2020.

Choice of three meats and all the veg you can eat. Stuffing and fab Yorkshire puddings too. We only had the mains as we were too full for dessert (so can’t comment on them!), all the food was fantastic, great quality, lots of it. Will definitely be coming again!

There food was not worth the money, the upstairs we hired out was dirty and unclean, you could clearly see they have not cleaned the toilets as they were dirty and had no toilet paper, the staff had a lack of communication with us costumers as well as there staff as they wasn’t prepared for the event,I would not advise to come to this place

Awful place to go for a family event, place was dirty with rubbish on floor! We had a baby shower planned for months there and had called up the day before to get there and nothing had been prepped we had to move furniture and decorate the place ourselves....we were told we had to pay £13 for 2 options of sandwiches which included samon when the pregnant lady couldn’t eat that, the staff were rude did not once check on us to see how everything was, our food and drinks were placed behind us and weren’t even told it was there.....would not go there!!!!

Absolutely disgusting,dirty and unhelpful staff which were also rude!! We arrived for a baby shower and it had been booked 2 months ago and the host spoke to them the previous day to confirm it yet they didn’t even know we were coming wtf!!! Not worth spending a penny in that place afternoon tea (really) more of a picnic for 6 people toilets were filthy plus no loo roll never ever book anything with them again DIABOLICAL

Absolutely disgusting place.. lack of communication with customer’s and even their own staff!! Place is dirty especially the toilets. Do not go for an afternoon tea, as they will say didn’t know you were coming all though booked two months in advance. Very rude to customers!! Stay away.

What an utter $hithole. Disgusting toilets. Seats ripped off, mess all over. Bar staff who don’t know what they’re doing and don’t care. Please someone buy this building and give it a makeover and new lease of life as the current owners obviously don’t give a toss about the place. What a waste of such a prime position and a great building...

went to a mates party had a really good time we rented out the upstairs would be really good for a group of 15 maybe pushing 20 atmosphere downstairs seemed pretty damn good too!!!

Sunday 28 October 2018, My husband collected us both a take away roast dinner. It was absolutely delicious, the beef and turkey were cooked to perfection and a great choice of vegetables. We would definitely recommend for a lazy Sunday afternoon at home!

What a disappointment, advertises cocktails barman said he had just started that day and that cocktails weren’t an option. Delete it from your sign then, sat at a table that had a multitude of ring marks from drinks on it, filthy dirty. To top it all then had some three year old kids screaming and running past me for 15 minutes which was the time it to to neck the drinks and get out of the place. Avoid at all costs would be my advice.

Visited at 13.45 on a Sunday to give the Sunday lunch a try in anticipation of booking the following week for a party of 8. Went to the bar ordered 2 beers and enquired the price of lunch. Was told 22.95 and I don't know if there'll be enough for you to order now. Drinks poured and paid for so I asked again thinking I had misheard her the first time for the price of Sunday lunch. Same reply £22.95 . had a good look around saw quite a few people eating plus children as well... very noisy football on the TV ....and couldn't understand why on earth a place like this would be charging that price. During the time we sat in there at least another 10 people arrived and all ordered lunch or sat down to get lunch despite us being told they weren't sure if there would be enough for us to order. Finished our drinks and left walked outside to see a huge banner proclaiming £13.95 for lunch. How does that work ?!

Had Sunday lunch here. Food was average. Drinks expensive. But main issue the place looks grubby and feels sticky. Ladies’ loo was not good with no hand dryer or paper towels. Chewing gum was under my chair and table. The whole place looks like it could benefactor a deep clean.

Stumbled along this lovely Bar whilst looking for the football to be on. Group of 6 men. Great service, fantastic atmosphere. Chef even brought along dishes of Beef for us from the carvery. Excellent.

Ladies meeting held here on a regular basis. Chef makes the best quiche I've ever tasted. Other food is good and staff very attentive

We have tried most of the decent restaurants in the area for a carvery And some have been good. However the carvery at Penn Central is the best by far.

Oh dear went to penn for a Christmas do and have to so food want good at all. Aunt bessie burnt yorkshires , menu had fillet steak and they served rump.

Great bar withe a great atmosphere, very clean and contemporary. Nice outside drinking area too. I loved the semi circle bar !

Our friends treated us to one of the Lazy (takeaway) Sunday Roasts today and it was great. Loads of vegetables to choose from, nice roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings and delicious beef. We will certainly be having it again and would definitely recommend it.

Fuimos un grupo de 7 para comer el domingo. La comida era muy buena, con mucha carne (y si lo desea podríamos volver por unos segundos). Es a menudo el caso con culto que la comida no siempre es caliente y este fue en parte el caso aquí. Sin embargo, estaba muy bien presentado y muy sabroso. Creo que luchando un poco con los números de personal en nuestra visita, así que el servicio no era rápido sin embargo nos conviene como estábamos contentos de sentarse y disfrutar de la comida. Los propietarios eran muy amables y obviamente trabajan muy duro para dar a todos una gran experiencia. Nos encantó y sin duda volveremos.

Great Sunday carvery, plenty of choices of vegetables and different meats. We had the beef which was excellent. Loved the cauliflower cheese, mashed swede and fab Yorkshire puds! Excellent value for money.

There's restaurant is brilliant, and their carvery is second to none in the area. Brilliant staff and service.

Poca round hill pen un domingo por la tarde encontré este pub y decidimos almorzar aquí. No nos libro pero el personal nos dio una mesa y teníamos un asador para el almuerzo. La carne estaba bien preparado y delicioso, el chef era tan encantador y el personal era muy amable. Sin duda volveremos aquí.

We were invited with friends to eat in the Attic. It's a lovely venue, well presented and comfortable. The menu had me spoiled for choice but in the end I had the scallops and belly pork with minted mushy peas to start. The flavours were excellent. Then the fillet steak and crevettes left me speechless and finished off with creme brulee, All washed down with a lovely rioja. The service was also excellent. One of the best meal experiences we have had in some time. Can't wait to visit again.

Dined here last night with 5 work friends. The Attic is a great venue, lovely atmosphere and lovely décor. Twice Baked Swiss Cheese Souffle!!! Haven't seen this on a menu for years...absolutely devine. The burger for mains for awesome, perfectly cooked with fab chips. A couple of the girls had the Mango Chutney Chicken Curry which they all voted as the best curry they'd ever tasted! All of this amazing food with FREE Prosecco for Ladies if you have 2 courses..what a perfect night!! Thanks Ben & staff for a great evening. Never been before but will definitely be back!!

We visited for a meal on a Thursday it was lovely the attic was out the way but such s lovely atmosphere. I had a starter of cheese soufflé and then s burger. Both were amazing. I will definitely be going back

My friend booked a table for 6 of us on Thursday night, we had free prosecco all night and the food was beautiful. I had the mango chicken curry and it was quite possibly the best curry I'd ever eaten! I also had a chocolate pot for dessert and it was so smooth and creamy. All of the party were all really impressed too. Not only was the food good but the service was also exceptional. We will definitely be back. Thank you!

We took our newly 18 year old daughters for dinner last night and every starter & main we had we superb! My daughter is a steak connusieur and is very fussy. She ordered the porterhouse and Loved it! Ben the chef/owner cooked it perfectly medium rare for her. The other 3 of us had rare Filllets, all cooked to perfection ! the scallops & pork belly, double baked cheese soufflé, squid, king prawn Thermidor and pint of prawns were all delicious too, The atmosphere was lovely and Shiraz looked after us very well, we could chat while music played downstairs. We will be booking another night very soon!

The chef, Ben Manners, provided a superb 5-course dinner, The dinner was held upstairs in the Attic Restaurant and we were well attended and looked after throughout the evening.Each course was accompanied by specifically selected wines for each course - supplied by Majestic. Nick the sommelier described each wine and why it was chosen.This all added up to a great evening - with fabulous food and great wines.

We wanted to hold a family party here, we met Ben the owner and were really impressed by his ideas and everything he had to offer. He appeared really accommodating and charming. He even agreed that he would waive the hire fee of £500 as we were spending over £1,000 on food.We were told that he would come up with some menu ideas for our party. 2 months later we still hadn't heard anything. We called the venue about 6 times, every time leaving messages for him and emailing but got no responses.After another month of no communication we went to the venue to talk to him face to face. By this time I had serious concerns with holding the party there especially when it became clear that he hadn't even remembered that he was supposed to be coming up with the menus. However, yet again he was very charming and made a lot of promises of what he could deliver. We asked him to put together the price for us. Again, we had to chase him to send this to us, more email and phone calls. It eventually came about 3 weeks later and we were told that the hire fee for the venue was £750 but he would reduce it to £500 (despite it only being £500 4 months prior). However, he had previously agreed to waive this. We emailed back with this.Again there was another delay, more chasing emails, more phone calls with no response. Another 2 months went by. Eventually we showed up to the venue without warning and he didn't come out to talk us, he sent his manager Shiraz who seemed quite embarrassed by the whole situation. A few days after he sent another email saying that he wasn't changing the prices and it was the best value we would get! Therefore we told him that we were no longer interested.We felt very frustrated that if he had said this to us 6 months ago we wouldn't have wasted time and effort trying to communicate with him.Overall, I felt there were a lot of promises that did not deliver. It was a real shame.

We had a birthday meal / party here and it was great, fantastic venue and we had the whole upstairs restaurant for 23 people. The food was awesome, the steak was perfectly cooked and considering 17 of us had it everyone said it was perfectly done with a really nice peppercorn sauce. The service was great too so would recommend this if you are having a party soon.

We booked a table for 20+ for my birthday on Saturday 15th October and everyone was blown away by the whole experience. We asked the chef/owner to devise a three course menu so we could pre order and he was more than accommodating. The Scallops were the best I've ever had and the Porterhouse Steak was mouthwatering served with dauphinois potatoes and asparagus as well as a variety of sauces. Friends enjoyed a variety of other dishes such as Butternut Squash Soup and Cheese Soufflé to start and Seabass and French Bouillabaisse, which were equally scrumptious. I didn't have a dessert but the feedback was excellent from friends that did. The service was great and all our food came out at the same time and piping hot.After our meal we enjoyed drinks in the bar downstairs where there was a buzzy ambience.Overall experience was superb.

It has taken a while for me to tell about our recent visit to The Attic, sometimes you should just keep quiet well that's what my mum used to tell me on many occasions...we shared the local scallops with pork and i was ready to stop there just to let the taste linger a little longer on my taste buds. Then we went into the main course, my wife attempted to devour the Porter House with fresh pepper corn sauce... by the silence it was obvious she was enjoying it. In front of me was a fresh king prawn linguini, I do not normally order pasta in restaurants but the description pulled me in and it was beautiful with a light garlic cream sauce and very fresh and crunchy sea food. As if this was not enough we were tempted by the lovely Shiraz to the fresh crepes bathed in Cointreau and decorated with fresh fruits. Heavenly!

Six of us had a meal here on Friday evening the9th. Didn't know what to expect but was very pleasantly surprised. Couldn't fault one thing . Generous portions and so tasty. French onion soup was to die for and I had the porterhouse steak which was cooked to perfection. Will definitely be back again and try something else as it all looked amazing . Service was very good . Overall , a lovely evening , and was nice ambiance . Nice to have background music from downstairs .

Well where do I start. We popped into this Restuarant by chance and had such a lovely experience we booked a table. The Chef/Owner Ben was an absolute charmer. We asked him to book a table for us for tonight Saturday 27th August. He promised he would do a dairy free Lobster Thermidor. We arrived tonight and he had forgotten.......... Not even an apology, he hid in the kitchen and didn't even appear to explain himself. Definitely won't be back there.

Great food and attentive waitress.They even managed to source a crab which apparently normally requires 24 hours notice.The oysters as a starter were huge and so tasty.Overall a lovely meal.Only negative was the loud music permeating from the bar downstairs but other than that a lovely evening.

2nd visit within a few weeks, thinking that we had been unlucky the first time. There was no beetroot in the beetroot salad, but we weren't told about that at the time of ordering, or delivery, the coconut rice definitely tasted plain and there was no confit of chilli to be seen, despite it being in the description on the menu. The bouillabaisse was a tomato sauce with shellfish (hardly a "traditional fish stew) and we had to order bread as an extra. We were told there was no dauphinoise potatoes, but when we asked what alternative there was, we were told there were NO POTATOES available, only chips. There is a shop next door and a large supermarket barely 10 minutes walk away but there had clearly been no effort to sort out this issue. It seems they used up the potatoes in the chicken curry recipe as there was more potato than chicken, but it was not described as potato and chicken curry. The chef had allegedly gone home when we asked to speak to him, and the manager was only contactable by phone, despite it being a Friday night. Won't be going back there again and definitely would NOT RECOMMEND.

Great cooking (fillet steak medium rare came just as requested, not always the case everywhere!) and fast and friendly service. It is a small dining room above the bar and the music from a private party below was a little on the loud side but 70s/80s disco made a pleasant change to restaurant "mood music"!

I went here 2 weeks on the trot and the food was outstanding both times. A great little menu with so much food I love - lots of seafood, lobster, fruits de mer, steak, oysters! Much better than the awful menu at The Hilton. Good generous portions - don't change this - and obviously a fantastic chef tucked away somewhere. I have been looking for a friendly little restaurant in the Bournemouth/Poole area with good quality food for a while, I'm tired of having to trek to The Jetty and Guildhall Tavern all the time. I hope you keep this up for a very long time!!!

Quite retro decor,clean,"straight lines" decor but modern as well. Reasonable priced food during the day,a little more expensive at night. Good vibe to the place & have a good mix of customer.

I booked the attic on table pouncer for my boyfriends birthday, there was 6 of us and everyone enjoyed their meals, the service was great, the food was delicious and I would 100% go again! I recommend the scallops!

Where to start? First, my PET hate, little dishes of coarse salt & pepper that other people have had their fingers in .What's wrong with either a cruet, or grinders? In this instance there was even 2 indentations from a previous customer's fingers, & the dishes were not particularly clean.The restaurant is on a mezzanine above the bar, so was fairly noisy, but also extremely hot.No hand towels in the ladies loo, just a toilet roll on the sinkOysters - delicious, but served on a flat wooden board,the juices ran all over the floor prior to serving, & all over the table whilst eating them. Have eaten oysters all over the world & never had them served other than on a bed of ice before. Should at least have been on a platter that contained all the water/juicesCrispy salt & pepper squid - soggy, not crispy, no hint of salt, or pepper, just dry chilli flakes. Salad garnish contained the hot fresh chilli that should have been on the bland squid.Burger - acceptable, but fries charged extra £3.50.Side salad £3.50 for a bowl mixed leaves from a bag, little bit of chopped onion & 2 halves of what appeared to be rotten tomato, but was in fact ( I was informed) oven roasted tomato. In a salad? Why not fresh? The "salad" was drizzled in syrupy balsamic vinegar, which was inadequate lubrication for the dry salad leaves.Wine - no printed wine list! So no idea of origin of wines etc, just told Merlot, shiraz, sauvignon or pinot . Service - the waitress was lovely, was working very hard trying to keep everyone happy, whilst her male sidekick mostly played on his phone.Would we return? Absolutely not, even though this was a table pouncer booking with 30% off the whole bill.Incidentally table pouncer deal says order anything you like from the a La Carte menu, but we were told that lobster & steak has a £5 surcharge. So a £20 filet steak has an actual saving of just £1.

Penn Central now have a restaurant upstairs called The Attic. We have visited it a number of times. On every occasion the food has been superb. The staff are very attentive and helpful. And the icing on the cake is that the prices are very reasonable. We highly recommend Penn Central's upstairs restaurant - The Attic.

It was our 43rd wedding anniversary so as we both fancied Steak we opted to go thereMy wife had Bruscetta and thought it was divine and I had the best tasting Moules Mariniere I have ever had. This was followed by two massive Porterhouse steaks with a "to die for" pepper sauceThis place was excellent and the only criticism was that we ate so much in the first two courses where they were so good we couldn't find room for puddingsHighly recommended

Took a trip to Penn Central yesterday with some friends for Sunday lunch, as luck would have it l discovered a living social deal that I purchased sometime ago, so we had a result. The food was excellent and Ben the chef did a decent portion on the meat, with help yourself veg you sure do get a good feed. The Prosecco was a bit steep at £6 a glass, but we had one each included in the deal. A nice bottle of Merlot at a reasonable £16.50. The staff were great, very polite and helpful, would recommend a visit.

As it's a restaurant, above a bar, there was no hostess which was a a bit of disappointment so we did have to wander around a little bit (looked like the waitresses were also working behind the bar) After that though, service was good. Decent range on the menu. Burger was AMAZING and the salad that accompanied it was also delicious. Opted out of dessert as they had run out of the cheese cake. Throughout dinner couldn't help thinking it would be a really good place to host a birthday dinner/party.

Yet again we had a superb Sunday carvery at Penn Central. The roast meat is of the highest quality and delightfully cooked - even with a choice of rare or well done beef. The veg were perfect and you cannot fault this place. Congratulations to a splendid chef and great management who make you very welcome.

Excellent service, friendly staff especially the owner. The meat was good quality and we had large portions. We were offered pork, beef (rare) or medium to well cooked and beautiful tender lamb. The vegetables were fresh and not over cooked. The Yorkshire puddings were first class as were the roast potatoes and parsnips. Great atmosphere and excellent value for the money. We'll be back.

Ate here a while back and was extremely surprised to find not only such a good value menu, but the quality of the food was excellent. Was in a big party of about 10 of us and we ate a wide variety from the menu. Not one person thought the food was anything but first class. The house burgers are amazing too.Will definitely go there again

We gave Penn Central a try from their recent Living Social offer and had a really excellent meal coupled with very good non-intrusive service. The owner served the food, the portions were generous and the quality of the food is about the best we have ever had anywhere. I think some reviews of Penn Central from a couple of years ago have given the place (and the owner) a bit of a hard time. We can only assume that either there were more unfair people around a couple of years ago, or perhaps the place has really upped its game. Either way, we had a great meal with super service and will be returning - judge the place on how it is today as opposed to what people might have been saying a couple of years ago. It's great!

Just opened with a new menu, the food was amazing and enough of it. At a 25% discount from new menu it was excellent value. The owner/chef came to us personally to ask if everything was good! It was a Friday night in the first week, so not busy, surprisingly. The wine menu was still being drawn up, so although no cocktails all other drinks available.

a great place to go for a meal with friends. The restaurant eating area surrounds a lively and friendly bar, the place has a nice open and airy feel but the management and staff really make it. We had great service that was informal and friendly. The menu is not fine dining more pub grub with some local flair. We had the lobster thermadour which is not what you expect in every pub but it was fantastic. Freshly caught and served up really well. A fun and friendly place definitely for friends and a few drinks more than romantic evenings. Definitely a revisit on the cards.

Absolutely rubbish, the worse meal I have been out for. We waited over an hour for our meal and I have never been served burnt black chips before. We will never eat at penn central again.

We went for the Sunday carvery and we're delighted with the food, service and general atmosphere. The meats were of extremely good quality and perfectly cooked. I would definitely return. The portions were most generous and we shall try the main menu another time as the choices look very interesting. Can highly recommend this place.
