Portskewett Inn in Monmouthshire

Not sure where to start with this, the menu was not detailed at all nor had any allergens to indicate was in the meal. ordered a platter with friends as it said chicken wings, chips, salad, onion rings & garlic bread. The chicken wings were not normal wings as you would imagine because they came out with a crispy breaded coating not only that there was no mention that these wings were spicy either on the menu. Friend did not react well to this, might visit again further down the line but there's a lot to be worked on here.

We’d booked for a family meal in the restaurant area on Saturday night, before realising that it clashed with England’s World Cup quarter final, which was showing in the bar and which we all wanted to watch. The staff couldn’t have been more accommodating, bringing in menus for us and taking our orders so we only had to pop out to the restaurant to eat around half-time. The food was delicious and good value, especially my son’s huge portion of sausage and mash. The pub had a very friendly vibe (despite the location, the football crowd were all supporting England), and despite the result we had an entertaining and memorable evening.

The staff at The Portskewitt are helpful, friendly and super efficient. The Christmas meal I ate (turkey with all the trimmings) was one of the BEST I have ever eaten in a Pub. Dessert of Chocolate and Orange was "to die for". Would I eat there again ? Most definately YES.

Since this was her local! We held the reception there. Food was good & service was friendly. They made a difficult day, more bearable.

Went out on a Friday evening expecting to only have a pint then home. Saw the lamb special and decided to try it. Not expecting much as it was only just over £10. Really well cooked lamb and sauce came which was so tasty. So had a great meal along with excellent beer and really good service. Haven’t been here for a meal for years and will definitely return soon. Thank you.

A good pub with a good restaurant and pleasant staff. The food is typical pub fare and there are some good lunchtime offers.

Keeping in mind that this is a local pub, the food is really good and have all drinks a pub must have, the staff is super friendly and they have a real wood burning stove which is wonderful for a cold day. I really recommend this place!!

Very pleased with the quality of service and food at the Portskewett Inn. Great choice for either the Menu or the Specials Board. Good service, and attentive staff. Good value for money. We will return !

The welcome, food and staff are great. Lunch selection is good and the breakfast on Sunday is so delicious. Everything is cooked fresh by Rob and Chris. Superb, as always.

I had my birthday party here on Saturday. It was really amazing top marks for food and service nothing was too much trouble. Chris and Rob the managers looked after everyone even a last minute gluten free request. My 50 guests all commented on how lucky we are to live so close to a proper unchained pub. Definitely will book future celebrations here. Even had breakfast the day after with 8 of my guests and family. Breakfast was the best I've had in a long time. Fresh and hot. Would highly recommend.

Having visited the pub a number of times I can highly reccommend the food, beer and especially the service. Great find and looking forward to our next visit. Well done all round

A mixed family party of 9, me met up here for a meal this weekend to celebrate Granddaughters 13th birthday. This is not our local but it was a convenient location for family members who came from a wide area. The menu is fairly simple with a varied choice of well prepared & presented food. Atmosphere is welcoming & service could not be faulted. Food & drink all reasonably priced. The locals are lucky to have this establishment on their doorstep. If you are visiting the area it is well worth a visit.

We had read the reviews and thought whilst staying in the area this is a must. We pulled up at about 4.30, we were the only ones in the place apart from the barmaid who sat 10ft away from us watching Sky News and not saying a word, it was a little bit uncomfortable to say the least. You would at least think she would try and engage in some sort of conversation? My wife declined to have a drink because of the smell, I can't quite explain in words what it was likened to, maybe like a very old house? Food is not served until 6 (I think), it appears the speciality could be their own pizzas. The previous night we were in cab and the driver said where you off to tomorrow, now I realise why he gave me a funny look when I said the Portskewett Inn.

Food was really good and the beer. Great friendly service and prompt. Clean and tidy and the staff where jolly.

Comimos aquí durante un viaje de negocios a cerca de caldicot. El comedor es elegante y cómodo y la comida era excelente. Comí una ensalada que no era la habitual masa de hojas a granel lo fuera. Éste tenía un montón de pollo y bacon con tiernos un delicioso aderezo. Mis colegas tuvieron las chuletas de cordero y ambos estuvimos de acuerdo en que fueron los mejores que habíamos tenido. Espero poder volver y probar yo mismo!

We really enjoyed our evening here - a return after some 45 years. Still a friendly and happy place. Excellent meals. A wonderful 'local' but welcoming to outsiders too.

This lovely village pub is warm,cosy and fairly quiet. The food was great and we were served quickly. Be aware that Sundays they only serve food until 12 (breakfast).

We regularly have breakfast at the Portskewett Inn on a Sunday. It's a lovely local pub, the staff are friendly and the food is excellent. Recommended.

Nos metimos en una comida después de un viaje de compras a Cardiff. Los tres platos eran preciosas, el salmón ahumado con remolachas era fabuloso. El personal es fantástico, muy servicial y atento.

The Portskewett Inn is what you would see as a country pub, if you come off the motorway and drive to portskewett you cant miss it, its right on the road before the school.its a typical locals pub where all the men go to for a pint and take their wives to the lounge on a saturday night.The landlord makes you welcome as do the locals, he atmosphere. is good as is the beer, what else could one ask for.

whilst in the area i had to call into the portskewett after all it had been my local when i lived in the area,it hadnt changed hugely,however i was dissapointed to find that mu old landlord had left,however the new landlord was very pleasant.and the beer just as good,

Nice wee pub, beer in comparison to Scottish beer was very guid. Can't remember evem falling asleep. Long since changed hands but all in all a nice we boozer for a quicj scoop.

Have been here a few times and each time their have been friendly staff, good priced drinks and variety. I love the new strongbo fruit cider on tap. Would go there again.

It's a quiet pub in the centre of a tiny village. The Ales are good, the range of drinks is pretty standard. The menu is nothing special but some nice items - doesn't seem to change often tho! i've heard the takeaway pizza is good. bizarrely. I had chicken in a basket. A plastic basket. Was like being whisked back to the 70s.

The menu is quite basic but the food was good and the staff efficient and friendly.All at a fair price too.

Just over the boarder into Wales-- this lovely small town Inn served delicious lunch! Cod and chips, Bangers and mash, Chicken in a mushroom sauce and Salmon caught in the Severn! Friendly staff tells about all the interesting and historic sites in the area.

We've dined here a few times now as it's local to my parents. Each time we've been warmly welcomed and the service had been good. The menu might be a little old fashioned but it offers something for everyone, including kids, and it's always cooked nicely.There's a little outdoor area that the kids like to play in while waiting for their food, and they like to say hi to the resident rabbits too :)Would recommend!

my old local,a different landlord to my old one,he was very friendly and made everyone feel welcome, and keeps a good pint!!!!

Such a reasonable price for good food. A really nice beer garden round the back where you can enjoy a few drinks with friends and the dog. Really need to take a visit, its a forgotten gem in the area. Does great homemade pizzas! Will be back soon

This local village pub is a super friendly place where you can get a good pint and a bite to eat.On this visit, in a group of fourteen people, we had an excellent value meal which was served how it should have been - with care, attention and as the menu described.The menu had lots of choice and there were various options for vegetarian diners. To supplement the main menu, there were extra choices on the specials board which included a very good dressed crab which was fresh and filling.The stand out element tonight were the chips, cooked perfectly and hand made.If you don't live in the village you must pop in for a pint and a bite to eat when passing as it's all too seldom to find such a lovely friendly place.

Our first vist to this local pub and we were pleased with both the friendliness of the staff and the atmosphereThe food was excellent and nothing was to much trouble. We would definitely recommend this pub
