Portree Hotel Restaurant in Highland

Distant and disinterested staff at check in, room was cold and we had to request the heating to be switched on, and then found that the heating is turned off at night. On Skye in mid winter the room was like an icebox overnight. We had chosen to eat in their restaurant in the evening but the promised dietary requirements were barely catered for so we ended up leaving and eating elsewhere, after an 11 hour drive this was not how we planned our evening. The rooms are basic but adequate, there was no top sheet on the bed which I found uncomfortable. The toilet is directly behind the bathroom door and if your partner enters the room while you're using it you will get a bump, i have a bruise to show this. Breakfast did have some choice for our diet and was well presented and tasty. Overall not a great stay, we will stay elsewhere in future.

We had lunch and dinner here, and everything we ordered was good. Soup of the day was delicious as well. Ask them for burnt butter with bread 👌🏻

The hotel charged me for the booking a month before my arrival, despite having free cancellation until just a few days before. When I canceled, they only refunded part of the amount!!! Shame on you!!!

We stayed at the Portree Hotel for 3 nights during our Scotland trip. We originally were supposed to stay at the Rosedale, but due to maintenance issues we were moved to the sister hotel, the Portree. While we weren't on the harbor, this location was pretty convenient for our vacation plans. The staff was very friendly and accommodating and have great recommendations. The food and the bar were great, and the bartenders were great to chat with after a day of hiking. Our room was very comfortable and cute. Would highly recommend the Portree Hotel for anyone staying in Skye.

Hotel wise, too expensive for what it is. Tiny bathroom, not even enough space for a toiletry bag. In the room it's the same, not even an armchair. 140cm bed, although very cozy. Poorly soundproofed, you can hear the neighbors' shower. No parking, you have to pay for public parking every 2 hours otherwise you'll get in trouble. On the restaurant side, however, it is delicious, both for dinner and for breakfast. Mini-buffet + an a la carte dish of your choice.

The hotel is really beautiful on the outside. It does not have its own parking but there are two parking lots nearby. The location is excellent. The room and the bathroom are quite small but they were very clean. The breakfast was generous and delicious, though the hotel is a bit expansive.

Me and my partner called in for dinner during our stay in skye. The beef was lovely but the brownie. Oh lord that was incredible. The staff where friendly and chatty too.

Only went to the bar here but it was pretty decent and surprisingly good bar prices for Skye. See West Highland Bar.

The restaurant in the hotel was really good. Parking was close. The location of the hotel was hard to beat and it was super cute inside. Good bathroom, helpful staff. Comfortable bed with good pillows.

The location couldn't be more central, there is plenty of parking just meters away, the food at the restaurant was delicious. Only negative comment: the beds are quite small for two people.

El equipo fue capaz de acomodar una mesa de 6 , sin reserva en una tarde de sábado que estábamos agradecidos. El servicio era agradable, con un ambiente agradable y un tiempo relativamente relajado entre cursos. La comida estaba bien presentada y sabrosa. Varios artículos a través de la mesa, desde vieiras y músculos hasta carne de res estofada. Todo justo “pub grub” con un poco de “hace lo que dice en la lata” Requisitos dietéticos para celiacos / sin gluten bien gestionados, con el personal teniendo conocimientos en relación con los riesgos de contaminación cruzada. Si nos encontramos de nuevo en Portree, sin duda volveremos.

El restaurante estaba muy ocupado. La gente es rechazada constantemente debido a los asientos limitados. Reservamos una mesa para 6. 30 pm. La comida fue entregada rápidamente y fue muy agradable. Sentado tomando una cerveza y luego se le informó que la mesa está reservada para 8. 00 pm y tuvimos que movernos sin previo aviso. Hablé con la camarera y ella estaba incrédula sobre la situación.

Went for coffee here, everything was full but they gave us a table in the entrance hall, which was perfectly fine. The café itself is very cute, I had a look when I went to use the loo, and the beverages were great. I'd come back in a heartbeat.

Weil es uns hier beim ersten Mal so gut gefallen hat und die Speisekarte noch den einen oder anderen Leckerbissen bot, sind wir hier noch einmal eingekehrt und wurden wieder nicht enttäuscht. Die Speisen sind wirklich lecker und haben ein prima Preis-/Leistungsverhältnis. Dazu kommt ein schönes Ambiente und ein sehr freundliches Personal. Eine Reservierung ist unbedingt notwendig!

Hotel : Despite our difficulty getting in and out, no one even offered to hold the door. The staff was not very cheerful. There is no elevator so be careful not to bring too many suitcases. The bedroom is small and the shower room is even smaller. You quickly feel suffocated and cramped. Restaurant : Nothing to say, it was excellent the 2 days we ate. Breakfast was simple but ok. The buffet is, for me, not of much interest because it doesn't have much variety. The hotel is well located, near a paid parking lot, another paid parking lot below and, apparently, a free one further away but which we did not find. Recommend the restaurant.

Super great location! Parking is tricky, but it’s only a 3 minute walk to the long-term parking lot. We asked for a nice view when we checked in and they definitely did! Super friendly desk staff. The room service was surprisingly fast and very good. You do have to go quite a few flights of stairs, so if stairs give you trouble you may want to ask for a lower level room.

Great service, we were encouraged to wait at the bar until a table became available. The staff were great and remembered our drink orders. Food was absolutely fantastic!

The hotel was very pleasant. Even though the bus station was right outside the door, you didn't hear anything about it. For breakfast there was a large selection that you could order, the buffet is rather small. The dinner at the hotel was very good. Friendly staff

It is a nice, warm place with good vibes, serving decent food. Friendly and efficient service. Tasty mussels and good fish and chips. Medium prices. Book way ahead, finding availability in any restaurant in Portree is almost impossible without a reservation, weeks ahead.

This is an older hotel with no elevator and smaller rooms furnished with the basic necessities but it’s cozy and well located within walking distance of restaurants and shops.

The food was delicious! Home made chips, delicious macaroni and stunning fresh fish. The hotel receptionist, Rhona, was the star for us though. She was very friendly & chatty as we left and offered us a map of the island, with visitor points on it. She also explained which way we should travel round the island. We followed her instructions and she was right! She was like a free tour guide, thank you Rhona! All in all a lovely place for lunch, dog friendly and bright and quick service

Wasn't enamoured by this bar/grill. The food was OK but not much of it for price we paid. Had to pay extra £5 for mashed potatoes as meal didn't include either potatoes or chips. For 2 meals and 2 drinks one of which was a soft drink we were charged almost £59.00. Blade of beef with a carrot and a shallot was £24.00. I was starving when I got back to our cottage. Wouldn't recommend this place.

Our bus stopped here for all of us to look around and grab a bite. The place was filled, with a mix of locals and tourists, but mostly bathe latter. Service was prompt and friendly. We had a pint of Guinness, a cup of clam chowder, and split an order of fish and chips. This was hands down the best chowder and fish and chips we had in all of Scotland.

Diner main is niet genoeg, je moet er echt aardappels of friet bijbestellen, ik mis groentes. Desert is voor diabetici niet te doen. Pub is bijna niet te bezoeken, eetgasten worden daar ook neergezet. Er zijn te weinig restaurants, en bijna geen personeel. Erg duur 174 pond voor 5 personen, waarvan er maar 2 een desert hadden. Op mijn vraag of ik een irish coffee zonder suiker kon krijgen zou navraag worden gedaan, maar kreeg ik geen antwoord nadat de anderen hun desert kregen. Tipgeld 10 procent wordt al bij rekening opgezet.

Booked in advance of arriving in Portree for a few days. Realised we weren’t going to make it in time so rang ahead. Booking moved back with no problem. Staff were friendly and welcoming and our order of mussels arrived promptly along with slices of delicious bread . The portions were very generous and we both thoroughly enjoyed our meal. So much so that we booked again for our last evening and we were pleased we did.

Good menu and good food served well by efficient and friendly staff. We dined in the restaurant which has a good atmosphere and is well decorated.

While the food was average at best, the waitress was extremely rude. We were in Scotland for nine days, and this was the only restaurant where we received such treatment. After taking our order, which she clearly did not want to do based on her attitude, she ignored us the rest of the time. She did not bring our food or check, and while she did check on other tables all around us on multiple occasions, she kept her back turned to us and avoided eye contact at all costs. It ruined the dinner, and I would highly advise tourists to steer clear of this extremely unfriendly restaurant.

The service was some of the worst service I have ever received. The waitress would not even look at us. She did not bring our food or our bill. While she did check on the people at the table two feet away from us, she kept her back turned to us and did not check on us even once during our entire time in the restaurant. She would not make eye contact so that getting her attention for a refill on drinks was next to impossible. Her rudeness ruined the entire dinner. We were in Scotland for nine days, and this was the only restaurant where we received such awful treatment. Sorry to say, I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone traveling to Scotland.

Limited but tasty menu of fresh ingredients, served up by a friendly staff in a clean, very casual environment. Nothing fancy here, but easy, pleasant, relaxed and satisfying.

This place was the best dinner we had hands down in all of Scotland. Like top five in our lives and we’ve traveled a lot. My husband and I said we will probably come back to Edinburgh in the future in a decade or two and make a pit stop all the way here just for dinner 😅 Make reservations!!

Great older hotel with all the necessities.

Very comfortable and pleasant. Place is complete with a dining area and a separate sports bar area. Hands down the best fish & chips that I’ve had in the BK. We also had the chowder that I would also rate as some of the best I’ve had. Shocked that this was not a place suggested by our tour guide. We got lucky, I think, that his suggestions were closed due to it being Sunday. This place is a Scottish gem.

The hotel is stunning and atmosphere wonderful! We were served by Rachel who was incredible and couldn't have done enough for us! The only let down was the food. Thanks Rachel!

The staff here were the most accommodating, the food was delicious, and my allergies were well attended to. We ate here twice and was delighted to have gluten free fish and chips…the best I’ve ever had.

We had dinner at Antlers our first night in Portree and it was excellent. The waiters were helpful with selections on the menu and everything we had was delicious! This restaurant is popular and I would recommend making a reservation ahead of time. Bar tender was very friendly and helpful in choosing local beers to try.

Enjoyed a lovely lunch at Antlers yesterday. Service was initially very slow but which is only reason not giving 5 stars. Food was delicious though, especially the fish and chips, so hoping it was just a particularly busy day that slowed service. Would definitely return.

Really cozy old hotel. The service in both the hotel and the restaurant were amazing and the staff super nice and helpful. The location is great with the whole Isle of Skye beeing easily reachable by both car and some bus tours. One critique is that you can hear other rooms as the building is quite old. There is also some ventilation or similar running from time to time. Overall relly good and would definitely come back :)

The hotel is very beautiful and picturesque but a few elements tarnished our experience. The double rooms are small, the bathrooms are not practical and too narrow to accommodate a couple. We reserved a table to eat at 8 p.m., and were not informed that they no longer served food from 8:30 p.m. We had to urgently find another place (and restaurants in Portree are rare in the evening and out of season!).

Good foodd, but the seats and flooring is worn out at the beginning of the season. Surely you can do some maintenance over the quiet winter months?

Had a meal here for lunch, the meal and service and atmosphere was really nice, friendly and welcoming. Also had a really good playlist with soft wide range of music, covering most tastes of genre

Lovely meal - definitely book in advance as was fully booked when we went especially if you have a dog. The smoked salmon starter was divine

The restaurant of the Portree Hotel is a highly recommended place to go eat. I picked the gnocchi and they were delicious. The staff is super friendly and the restaurant has a nice atmosphere. As the name says they are alsp a hotel unfortunately they were fully booked already. There is a huge parking lot right next to it and from 7 pm to 8am it‘s free to leave the car there just don‘t forget to get a ticket.

Didn’t stay here but had our dinner here twice. Food was amazing. Highly recommended

The restaurant is a MUST. Every meal was delicious!!!

We had an excellent meal, with soup of the day (leek and potato), side salads (with a variety of veggies), and the salmon, which we shared. Everything was delicious and portions were large. Prices are reasonable. Service was friendly and helpful. We made reservations weeks in advance, so it would be wise to reserve.

Basic but charming hotel. No lift so be warned, especially for tired legs after hiking on the island. The room was pretty small it must be said but was clean and cosy. Definitely could be more sound proof but didn't stop us getting any sleep! Decent selection for breakfast. Staff were pleasant and accommodating. Very centre of Portree so close to everything you could need.

Average gastro pub style. A bit mixed in service and food. ‘Gravadlax with sourdough’ was smoked salmon with supermarket bread. Decor a bit tired. Ok for a quick bite to eat.

Only had one meal which was Breakfast, which to be honest was awful, had Eggs Benedict and ne watery egg with a very small amount of ham on a stale scone, which was really disgusting and inedible, if that’s the best Scotland can offer, heaven help us!!!

We went to dinner, just the food. But the staff was very rude, it seemed like we were bothering them and I even noticed that they had put us away from the premises. I will not repeat.

A very pleasing room (not massive but big enough) and en suite with quality toiletries and towels. Good selection on the menu. I opted for beef cheeks followed by a sticky toffee pudding. Great local ales too. A very central hotel and not really too far from anywhere on the island of Skye.

We had dinner there. The food was good. Especially the highland beef burger, but we had to order the drink twice (Cider) and it seemed like a clear one, we didn't like it at all. On the other hand, the staff did not seem to be on their best day. They could have sat us inside which was very cozy, but they sat us at the entrance.

Been here couple of times as I live locally. Food has always been really good.Never let’s you down. Reasonably priced as well. This time I had cold smoked salmon on top of toasted bread and cream cheese, such a tasty starter.Pork chop for main course which was so good. Good cocktails as well and friendly service. Will be back!

The food was good and arrived promptly, but as usual the service lets this place down. The staff member brought the drinks to the table but just put them down and walked away without a word. We watched a customer approach a member of staff to ask if they could order, as they had been waiting some time. The member of staff said that someone would come and get the order soon but that they were-short staffed. No apology. However, we'd all been sitting listening to three members of staff chatting at the counter for at least ten minutes prior to this.

Such a good find! This place offers a great deal of gluten free options. Nicely priced and fuss free. Service was good and we didn’t wait long for food.

This spot is good for a casual dinner out. not great for solo eating. but my fault for not reserving. the food was average to good! and customer service was good! dessert was a bit overpriced? it was good tho.

When you first walk in, the atmosphere is very off putting. Plain decor, small tables close together, but not in a fun way like a real pub. So we’re were Leary of what the food would be. The food was excellent. Everyone enjoyed the dinners. We came back the second night. Excellent pork chop.

This is a great spot for dinner in Portree. The food was great and the location is central in town.

Arrived at the bar with no reservation but we’re just looking for a table for an hour or two for a couple of drinks. Staff were able to squeeze us in before other guests arrived in one of the lovely greenhouses outside. The service thereafter was faultless too. Next time we’re in Skye we plan on staying at the hotel and dining too!

The food was amazing and the drink was quality. And the outside drinking provision with greenhouses complete with heaters and speakers were a better response to mandatory outdoor drinking than anywhere I've seen. The only downside was the interpretation of the covid rules which meant you had to book for 2hr slots and were pressured constantly to order more food and drink. The atmosphere should have been more relaxed as everything else was set up for it.

Stopped in here for dinner and drinks a couple of times on our recent trip to Skye. They had extensive gin & whiskey lists and the food was absolutely delicious. All of the staff were very friendly and attentive!

We were looking for lunch in Portree and wanted to get out of the rain so we popped in here. The staff were very friendly and there was excellent social distancing measures.We ordered the croque madam and haddock brioche. Both were delicious and filling. The haddock was beautifully cooked and the brioche bun was excellent. It came to £23 for 2 drinks and 2 main meals. A bargain for what we got!The only downside to this place was that it wasn’t very warm inside. Other than that I would definitely recommend for some good pub grub.

Mi novio y yo tuvimos la suerte de conseguir una cápsula en el último minuto, que fue genial y muy acogedora. El entrante de salmón era genial y el bistec especial fue maravilloso. Nuestro lado de hongos salió tarde (sucede) pero valió la pena la espera y los camareros se disculparon tanto que les dieron gratis y mi postre, que también estaba delicioso. Muchas gracias!

Dined second night of our stay. Booking is a must during COVID. The waitress was lovely. Sorry never got her name but she was very attentive and knowledgable. 😊 Food was lovely. Scallops special was exceptional. Thank you. We would definitely return.

Reservamos uno de los Greenhouse Pods para cenar y fue una buena noche. Desde nuestra llegada a la recepción, todo el personal con el que nos encontramos fue muy amable y se tomó el tiempo para charlar.La comida también era absolutamente deliciosa. Pedí el especial que era solomillo de 12 oz y uno de los mejores bistecs que he comido en mucho tiempo y vale la pena el dinero (y normalmente no elijo solomillo) Es genial tener nuestro propio altavoz Bluetooth en la cápsula para escuchar música y La lámpara de calor nos mantuvo cómodos.También me las arreglé para conseguir una cápsula al día siguiente para bebidas y, de nuevo, el personal es muy amable. Definitivamente lo recomendaría aquí si visita Portree.

Tuvimos deliciosos pasteles y café aquí en una parada rápida de refrigerios alrededor de portee.Habíamos reservado una pequeña cápsula afuera. Fue muy agradable. Hay un ventilador y un calentador además de música si lo desea. Son como pequeños invernaderos. El único problema fue que nos olvidaron y no vimos a nadie durante al menos 15 minutos y lo mismo cuando queríamos pagar. Podríamos habernos ido fácilmente porque lo dejamos a nuestra suerte. Posiblemente porque al final teníamos razón, quién sabe. Todavía volvería, el café y los pasteles eran encantadores. Todo en su lugar también para Covid. Me sentí muy seguro.

Cracking menu, reasonable prices and good staff. We hadn't been to Portree before so picked this and took a bit of a chance but everyone in our group enjoyed the visit. Recommend it for sure.

Stopped off after a long day of sights and walking with the kids, staff were really friendly and explained how the place was operating during Covid with one way systems etc. The food was very good, lots of variety on the menu and well priced.

Dropped in for lunch on a day trip to Skye and left totally unimpressed. The staff are very unprofessional and hang around the bar giggling and being overly friendly with each other. The customers are not priority for this "team" and they could all benefit from some hospitality training. The food could only be described as mediocre and the soup was literally a tin of tomatoes with some tasteless veg thrown in. Bland Macaroni and cheap catering style chips. Absolutely no imagination or presentation. I cannot recommend this venue.
