Black Isle Bar (Fort William) in Highland

This was our second visit to BIB. The first was at the end of our walk along the West Highland Way. This time it was before we tackled the Great Glen Way and it didn’t disappoint, same great pizzas and beer, same lovely staff. We even got the same table as before! Look forward to our next visit.

A good choice of beer and a cut above your average pub grub food offering. Simple, rustic interior. Can get busy in the evenings.

Absolute class 🙌🙌 Superb beer 🍺 and wood-fired Pizza , a match made in heaven 😋 Just as good as the inverness place they have.. Pint of Spider🕷 monkey 🐒 and 🦌 Venison Salami Pizza 🍕 Superb guys 👌👌Could stay here for days Feasting like a Viking in the Great hall Valhalla !!

Visited with my husband great place selling craft beer the pizza's are fantastic

We had an amazing day for my sisters baby shower in January in the upstairs area. Great food & drinks, staff were very friendly & helpful when setting up.

The haggis pizza was delicious. The beer itself was good, and they display the untapped scores in the bar. Atmosphere is cozy. Would highly reccomend for a snack and a beer

Disappointed Three of us (a 50 Something a 60 something and a 70 Something) followed the big sign outside that said pub open. We wanted three drinks so probably £15-20 of business, but….. we were told they couldn’t serve us as they were only doing lunches. There were about seven other people in the entire place. It’s a shame as it looked lovely. It would have taken two minutes to serve us and we would have been no bother. Seems shortsighted 🤷‍♂️

A lovely place to eat with delicious pizzas of so many flavours. Good selection of beers as well. Deffo worth a visit.

The Doors, Nirvana and Paolo Nutini in a former (allegedly haunted) Macrae and Dick garage in Fort William ! Sounds improbable....but it's true. Great wood fired Pizza 🍕, craft beers and amazing live 🎶 it's all here !

Staff are first class. Beers, whilst good, haven't really moved forward much. Clientele can feature heavy on the hipster side. Lot of underdeveloped moustaches. Not sure the venue really worked. Just my take. Definitely worth a visit to check off your list. Like I said. Staff couldn't do more for you!

Good place for groups; it was 10 of us and no problem with finding the table on Friday evening. I had a veg pizza with mushrooms and truffle oil, quite tasty. The pizza is served in the box even when you eat in.

Good food and great choice of beer. The only issue is the building is very echoie and can get very noisy.

Old church converted into a bar. Cozy, sociable and inviting to linger. Large selection of home-brewed, organic beers. There is homemade pizza to eat, which is really recommended. Always worth a visit Also have many gluten free beers

We were looking to somewhere to bring the kids for dinner so checked this bar out earlier in the evening but they went with MacDonalds so my wife am I came back for pizza and beers. We tried a few different beers and some were not to our taste but others were excellent. We went with both the Haggis pizza and garlic bread (which turned out to be garlic pizza). Great place to enjoy drinks and pizza. Couldn’t see anything around about the history of the building but maybe I didn’t look hard enough.

Wow what a place to eat wood fire pizza absolutely delicious I never eat pizza as nice as this places pizza, I never been fan of pizza but this place pizza is the winer for me. You most have The garlic bread with cheese. We had goat cheese pizza with turnips and butternut squash as a topping it was nice gave sweet taste to the pizza, and also margherita pizza.

There are a lot of microbrews popping up all over the world. Many will serve pizza and beer. I’ve been to many in the States and hit a few in Scotland and Ireland. This is one of the best. The pizza was great….I mean really really good, The beer was better than most. I did not expect this and was pleasantly surprised.

Really cool bar/pub on two levels. Pizzas available throughout the day. Child friendly till 22:00. Cask and craft ales available. Also very dog friendly.

Amazing craft beer, so tasty and nice, best beer I had from a very long time. Pizza really nice too, good size and very filling. Plus organic. We definitely loved it.

We spent new years eve here - such a great atmosphere and the staff & service was outstanding. This is the best place in Fort William to have some drinks with friends and enjoy a comfortable evening together

Nice place to have a drink and the pizzas seem to be good, but at 8 p.m. they apparently run out of tomato sauce so they can no longer make pizzas🙈

Kitchen is already closed at half past eight. Apparently making tomato sauce is extremely difficult.

Place that satisfied my thirst and hunger before Christmas. The beers are great and the pizzas not bad Served in a cardboard box upstairs (that’s crap)

Great little brewery downtown Fort William

Place that does the job to eat a pizza and drink a beer. The atmosphere is a bit canteen-like and lacks the conviviality one would like to find in a pub. Probably the fault of the large tables. Can be revealed on a concert evening. The staff is attentive and pleasant.

Beer and a slice. What else is there to say. Go.

When we arrived, we were welcomed warmly. The bar staff were really knowledgeable and were able to easily identify a beer we would like - the said beer was AMAZING btw 🍺 We then had a pizza each, one vegan and the other margarita. Both were absolutely delicious. Overall the prices were fair, the atmosphere was lovely and the food/drink tasted great. Would 10/10 recommend.

I posted this review in Oct 2024 and five days later someone from the bar posted a response accusing me of writing a review with inaccurate information. I assure you I do not post unflattering reviews lightly nor frequently. My reviews are accurate and detailed. I am sure the same staff will review this again with the same comments as no one likes a poor review, however I want the readers to know this review was written based on time stamp from the receipt or order. I went up twice to ask where our food was and that was only after 35 mins had passed, my husband then went up after 45 mins has passed and the young bleach blonde employee had MANSPLAINED to me, which did not go over well with my husband. My apologies for the lengthy intro, however it is warranted given the follow up I am sure the staff will make contradicting my accurate review. Don’t go hungry! Given we went in on a Saturday evening we expected to wait a bit, not over an hour for our food AND I didn’t plan on having our meal delay MANSPLAINED to me. Ordered at 19:38 per receipt. Checked in on food at 20:22 only to be told that it had only been 20 mins (WRONG) and our food was coming, to be patient. Then at 20:40 asked again only to have the bleach blonde joker of the team kindly MANSPLAIN to me that it was coming. At 20:48 my husband asked bleach blonde employee for the status of our food. Turns out our pizzas were never made. Okay so just say that, own it, be honest and get them made. That is understandable when it is busy. I don’t appreciate a young smarta$& attempting to talk down to me. The other staff seemed young, but polite and professional. If I was the manager, I would be counseling and mentoring bleach blonde employee…but that’s me. Food is 5 of 10 at best anyway so you’re not missing much if you choose another restaurant. Sad as I had high hopes based on reviews.

Great atmosphere and staff were very friendly and welcoming. It was dog friendly too. We enjoyed the beer selection and pizzas were delicious (we were worried as we have our own pizza oven at home). However, they were just what we needed and were tasty with some good combinations of toppings. We will definitely return here again.

Very busy pizza restaurent with "far to many" locally brewed beers on tap, great! Stone Pizza was gorgeous, full of flavour and a friendly atmosphere.

Have visited a Black Isle bar in Inverness I knew what to expect in Fort William, i.e., excellent pizzas with good selection of beer in a relaxed no fuss bar/pizzeria. Service was good, so was beer. Pizza excellent as usual. Would not hesitate to visit again.

The American IPA is really delicious. Ample social space and fresh pizzas with flavorful crust. Great spot to enjoy a night out in town and maybe make some new friends!

Great hang out spot and easy to get in to. Pizza was delicious, some of the best we have ever had. Our family of 4 shared a table with an older gentleman, as table sharing is mainly what they have. Friendly staff.

Nice local. The pizza was tasty. At first I even didn't know, that Pepperoni on Pizza could contain meat. But they changed my pizza into a vegetarian pizza without extra costs. Also the beverages are refreshing.

We decided to stay in Fort William for dinner, after a long day out walking. The weather had been lovely and we didn't want the day to end. We Saw lots of people sitting outside enjoying the sun with Pizza, so decided to investigate. The place was busy, but we managed to find a table inside and order some food and drinks. Pizza didn't take long to arrive and tasted great. We had our 8 year old son with us and he enjoyed his too. Bar service was quick and orderly and the staff were very friendly. A nice atmosphere, and family and dog friendly. Will definitely be back the next time we are in town! Thanks again.

Really enjoyed our pizzas - excellent quality. Loved the IPA and great that they have non alcoholic beer on tap too. Enjoyed the lively atmosphere & pleasant staff too.

The cider here is delicious. I liked it so much, I never got around to trying the beer. It's a great setup inside. The pizza was ok - the crust was a bit too dry, but flavor overall was good.

Great craft beers and pizza's in a wonderful building at the end of the West Highland Way. The staff are only taking orders for food and drinks at the bar, but this is done in a quick and professional manner. Great IPA's, pale ales, Porters and Stouts on draught.

Such an extremely limited menu which offers measly toppings with the choice of only seven pizzas, starting at £13 for a Margherita. Topping options are sao limited that you can only have pepperoni, mince, mushroom, peppers or onions – or cheese of course - I had more options in my sandwich that afternoon than they could muster up! Despite the lack of menu creativity the Pizza’s were cooked really well and so its disappointing that they cant put a decent topping on them? Beers served are only from the Black Isle brewery and they’re ok but more choice is needed. What was also disappointing was they only serve their own soft drinks – organic of course and called Karma! A bizarre and money grabbing attempt at Coke which instead tasted like a syrupy flat own-brand supermarket Coke and given the name “Karma” so much more was expected for the £2.80 price being charged. The tap water was excellent however, so not all lost and I got my “Karma” back! Restaurant itself was fine but there is no table service and staff were slow to clear tables so you’ve really got to question how they can charge patrons £15 a pizza. The Outside area looked good but was full of people vaping and smoking so not a place you’d want to sit eating your pizza. I think this place and others in the area can get away with these standards given the limited choice and relative poor competition.

Very talented brewers here. I had a pint of the Goldfinch (gluten free) and Yellowhammer blonde/gold. Awesome 👌 . Lovely staff and if I'm ever fortunate enough to return I'll certainly be partaking in one of the incredible-looking (and smelling) pizzas! The fact we had dinner booked for an hour later is the only reason I didn't (I was still tempted though!).

Called in for a takeaway Ordered a peperoni pizza Tartuffo pizza Service was ok The pizzas were boxed up sad to say not one of the best pizzas in fact I'd say poor !!!!!! My peperoni was burnt Lacking cheese My wife thinks the mushrooms were hiding on hers again lacking cheese Very dissapointed for the price we paid My favourite food is pizza so the only reason we went there were the reviews Maybe the pizza chef was having a bad day Sorry to be so negative if I'd sat inside I would have sent them back

Cool trendy craft beer venue in Fort William. They had 15 in house beers on tap which seem to change regularly. Staff were very friendly and knowledgeable about the different better and local whiskys. The pieces also offers pizzas that were consumed by most patrons. I didn't get an opportunity to try them as we only dropped in for a drink. A definite must see for beer aficionados on their way to Ben Nevis or the Jacobite Express.

Worst costumer service i have ever had!

Great craft beers and real wood-fired pizza. The 'nduja and honey pizza is one of the best pizzas I've ever tasted. It pairs perfectly with their Rhode Runner NEIPA.

The vibe was good, the beer was good and the pizza was awesome. After finishing the West Highland Way this is the perfect place to celebrate.

Tired after a 15 mile walk, this place was local AND turned put to be a great choice. Sensible ordering options for the pizzas which made it easy, the hardest choice was to select your choice of ale from the vast array available, but again they made this easy by having the options onto easily accessible website. Our pizzas were grand, our beers better and even a glass of Nero D'Avola to wash the pizza down with, a perfect end to the finishing day of our West Highland Way walk.

The pizza was pretty good to be honest. Could have had a little more cheese. But a nice stone bake. The service was good too despite the business.

This was our evening haunt for our week in Fort William. Has a staggering selection of organic house brewed beers of all kinds. Lagers, pale ales, stouts, alcohol free options, anything you like given the 21 beers on tap. We were particularly partial to the Spider Monkey and Treehouse. They make a selection of handmade pizzas which are absolutely delicious. The staff are friendly, courteous and helpful. The atmosphere and decor are also very inviting and cozy. If I had any complaint at all it would be that if we could have we'd have stayed later each evening!

Mega. We managed to get a seat outside on a lovely late summers evening for a pizza and a pint. Fantastic choice of their own beers + ales as well as plenty of pizza options. Everything was delightful. If you're in Fort William this is a must visit.

Visiting from USA. Former restaurant critic. Ordered the Tartuffo pizza with a gluten free crust. Meh. Thick enough crust, but was void of mushrooms or even a truffle oil flavor. Lacked flavor and seasoning. It was also lukewarm which was odd considering I was sitting next to the pizza oven and service window. I am only gluten sensitive so can’t speak to the food safety for celiacs. Place was packed. Good energy.

Found this wandering round on our first night in Fort William and came on the next two nights as well. An excellent selection of great quality beer, friendly staff and some of the best (wood fired) pizza I’ve had in the UK. Can get really busy so try and get there early as it’s first come first served with seating but well worth the wait.

Great place for some special beers and really good pizza. Seat yourself, share a table, order at the bar your drinks and pizza - pizza will be served to table. Pizza was really good, and drinks were also great, really recommend it to anyone in the area.
