The Steam Inn in Highland

Had an excellent meal here. Great menu selection. Specials board too. The food was cooked to order. Fish and chips plus a burger and chips. The fish was beautiful. Batter thin and crispy. Chips skin on, piping hot and tasty. The burger was a hand made patty in a brioche style bun with salad. Same skin on fries and 2 huge battered onion rings. Again beautiful. Dessert was sticky toffee pudding with freshly made caramel sauce and ice cream. Best dessert ever! Prices for food and drinks very reasonable. Great service. Friendly and with a smile too. Highly recommended.

Fish n chips Food was only ok had better from the chippy it seemed we only got half a fish each the pes puree was nasty it looked like they had purified garden peas to cut back on serving whole peas also ordered onion rings but could’ve had a swim in the oil that came with them Thought we were in luck with the large slice of sticky toffee pudding but it was awfully dry even with the toffee sauce, Black paint splatted all over the walls there’s no leather on the seating tables and floor was sticky Busy enough place though Had to drive into fort William for decent food on the second night of our stay which did not disappoint

This is a beutiful pub with a small number of rooms. Satyed for a week and had the BEST sea food ever, very fresh and cooked to perfection. The staff are realy great and friendly, made our stay very memorable.

We beat the crowds from the Jacobite train and we’re glad we did. There is an extensive menu everything from curries to seafood. In a country of fish and chips, this was deemed the best in class. The fresh steamed mussels were so numerous I couldn’t finish. Service was friendly, attentive and top notch. One of the best meals we had in Scotland.

We arrived in Mallaig on the first day of off-season and The Steam Inn was one of only a couple of places open. It was perfect - friendly, welcoming staff, excellent service and wonderful seafood. The mussels and haddock were both outstanding. Decent pint of IPA too.

This place has a part which is more like a pub and a part which is more a restaurant. The pub is nice and we had some tasteful beers, inside and outside. The restaurant was nice, although the atmosphere could be better. We shared a pizza and a seafood platter and they were both very tasteful. We enjoyed this a lot.

The menu looks basic from the outset but the specials board really surprised. I had the venison pie with potatoes and green veg, the venison was well cooked and sweet, the potatoes where new potatoes well cooked and enjoyable, the veg a little over done, the pastry was fresh, flaked nicely when I put the knife in and tasted great. The venison was well flavoured with carrot and onion. The other half who has very precise taste amended his order and it came out perfectly. My friend had the sizzler chicken and there was plenty of it. Toilets are clean, service was impeccable drinks good and above all it was reasonable priced. The venue was clean, tidy and a good selection of drinks hot or cold available. We worth a visit

At £26 for curry & a pint I would expect the food to be of a better quality. I have tasted better out a jar. Disappointed & would certainly not recommend.

My friend and I stayed here after getting off the ferry from The Isle of Skye. It was one of the best places we stayed at on our travels. Room was very spacious and nice! Restaurant was very excellent for dinner and also offered a really nice breakfast included with our overnight stay. The staff were just excellent and so kind and courteous!! Would stay again if I was ever back in Mallaig. A little expensive at 120 pounds a night, but not unusual these days! My scallops were devine!!

Delightful gem of a place, fantastic food and the guy who served us was brilliant. My husband was unsure as to which beer he wanted....no problem the young man brought him out a sample of local stout. My fella has a pint of the local brew and we enjoyed a lovely plate of prawns with crusty bread. I would recommend this pub anytime 10/10

Popped in for lunch after the Harry Potter train arrived here, looked for somewhere to eat and came across this bar and restaurant, good choice by me. Food was cooked fresh, friendly welcoming staff attended to us. I had the battered fish which was very good, wife had soup and sandwich was really good, highly recommended

We drink in here quite regularly when working out of Mallaig and it's always a good friendly place for a few beers. Last night we decided to eat here and the food was outstanding. Nice varied menu and beautifully cooked food. Friendly staff too

Simple menu, clearly playing to the local strength of fresh seafood. One of the best fish and chips I’ve had, washed down with a lovely local ale. Nice beer garden at the back.

Poor service, seafood overcooked, left the doors open when it was raining and cold. Bar staff had no appeciation of customer service. Very poor. Obviously they don't feel that they need to make an effort given the amount of people who are passing through.

Excellent fresh seafood and good beer. Place is robust with ‘concrete’ beer garden but does the job if just getting off the boat or train. Price is reasonable for good quality food.
