mambos in Highland

Went in for a quick lunch, food tasted great. Burger and fish n chips were aromatic and fresh. It's a shame we couldn't try their starters. Becky was very great and helpful. Highly recommended!

We had a really nice lunch at Mambos and we're impressed by the number of vegan options, I was even surprised to see vegan mac n cheese as not many places tend to offer that. Sadly I had just had that the nught before for my dinner so decided to go with another choice. I went for the hot dog and was presented with a huge hotdog with a decent portion of chips to accompany it. Hotdog was very nice however I think (didn't confirm) it was a gluten free roll which slightly let down the overall taste of it. I know that it's easier to cater for several dietary requirements in one meal so I am pleased they are considering everyone but was just my personal preference. The staff were extremely friendly and we had a lovely overall experience and would definitely be back 😊

Went here Friday night for a drink and Sunday afternoon for lunch. Food was amazing. Staff friendly. Highly recommend the chicken strips. Will be back soon.

Came here last year and had a great experience so we're desperate to come back, unfortunately it's definitely not the same place. Mambos was busy so we understand it was going to take time to get seated and served. Large party at the side of us who were already seated were getting their food not only did they forget one of their orders they got two others wrong. We eventually got out food which looked nothing like the meal we were served last that was amazing. We ordered the loaded haggis fries which came in a little basket not a plate which looked like half a portion and had no whiskey sauce it was a cream drizzle over the top which was very much. The baskets were swimming in oil and the chip were like lava so had to wait a bit longer to actually eat then. When getting started into the food the chips were full of oil and really not enjoyable I left half of them and was very disappointed. It only got worse when I had to take my son to the bathroom which only had one toilet with loo roll and the doors don't lock. Washing our hands the the taps sprayed us completely with water and the hand dryer was like someone trying to blow our hands dry. We couldn't wait to leave. Definitely won't be back and certainly not recommending this place anymore. Completely gutted 😫😭😡

Excellent service . staff are the best you will meet for a night out. Bouncing atmosphere, good drinks and an all round top class night out. Highly reccomend.

Ordered burger and fries, both got food poisoning. Whilst the waitress was nice to us, she was sharp and rude telling people the kitchen was closed who came in for food.

We recently spent the weekend in Aviemore and this place was a favourite of ours. Great food during the day in the cafe. We also had a fantastic time in the bar at night. Brilliant music, friendly atmosphere and the bar staff & door stewards made us feel very welcome. Looking forward to our next visit!

Nice enough place but my friend and myself both ended up with food poisoning after having the burgers from here so would suggest drinks only.

Been coming to Aviemore for years and Cafe Mambo is always our first stop. Waiting in the queue to be seated behind another couple, there were 3 or 4 empty tables when the waitress marched up to us, raising her voice and shouting in front of other diners that there would be no more service today, gesturing with her arms. The gent in front was completely taken aback by the way we had just been spoken to, as were we. There is a way to speak to people and that is certainly not it! We will not be back!!! Now sitting in the Ski-ing Doo up the road where the waitress could not be nicer, Cafe Mambo, you need to take a leaf out their book!

I attended this bar last night with a group of four friends to buy a drink at 9.30. (We are middle aged men) The bar was fairly empty with lots of seating available. We waited at the bar to be served, there were two female members of staff. Neither of them made eye contact and ignored us as we waited. One was complaining to the other about not getting a tip and the other was on her phone whilst serving drinks. We waited for 5-7 minutes being ignored. So we left. I would not recommend this bar.

We have come down from Orkney on a hen do and asked all the locals for a recommendation and this was the local lover. Unfortunately I am unable to report this with a great review. Here is a few of our experiences (the security guards are lovely): 1: The bride to be was hit in the face with the barmaids br***t 2: The hen party have third degree burns from all the scolding stares from the bar staff 3: We are all quenching in thirst because we don’t own a p***s and ended up in the M&S shop along the road for a can of coke My recommendation is the cairngorms across the road. Friendly staff and fast service. Big up Fraser.

There was 12 of us who had a cocktail making class with Teigan and it was amazing. Teigan has very good energy and made the overall experience a very positive one, she is certainly an asset to the team! Food was also good.

Omelette delicious but avoid the pancakes. Just 3 lumps of tasteless dough type texture. Most of it was left. Waitress asked how our breakfast was and complinented the omelette but advised her pancakes were awful. Still got charged just over £11 for the 'pancakes'! Also, tables feel sticky.

Party of 5 (3 adults & 2 children), placed order with very nice waitress, went to use toilet facilities which are next to kitchen, staff were overheard complaining that a party had arrived with 2 f…g kids, they should be at f……g school, both children are under 5. Needless to say we were very upset and left. Definitely would not recommend

Brilliant full breakfast at £12.50.Good quality produce,no grease at all, very pleasant service,clean surroundings.Will definitely go back there and, for a real fussy diner like me,I find this is one of the few eating places in the Highlands that I can thoroughly recommend

popped in here for breakfast while staying n Aviemore. It was a great idea! The veggie breakfasts were very tasty, freshly cooked and the chef had included some grilled halumi too which was a nice wee surprise. The presentation was lovely as well which, I think, always lets you know that the person making the food actually cares about what they are doing. the waiting staff were very friendly and plesant whihc altogether made the whole experience a good one.

Went in for breakfast which was quite nice. Service friendly and food nice enough. The reason for the 1 star is I left very offended! We had also visited the night before for afew drinks before heading to the vault nightclub for an event. Again, no issues with the bar itself . As I was sitting eating my breakfast (14.11.23) the next day the waitress (dark hair) was talking to the server behind the bar (auburn hair) and friends who were coming in as we were sitting there and she was asked afew times ‘how was last night’ to which she repeatedly replied ‘full of old people nursing drinks as they were all going to Dave Pearce’ . Problem being I was one of those people (in my late thirties hasten to add so being laughed at as old people was offensive. I also heard conversations about the boss expecting them to clean throughout the shift and not being paid any more money. She gave good service when serving us but I suggest she keeps her voice down and her opinions to herself when in such a small space . Don’t expect any ageism when going for breakfast .

Went in for lunch with our dog( which is a plus as not all places allow dogs), greeted by friendly staff shown to our seats. Lively and a good atmosphere very nice and attentive staff let down by average food, wife ordered a chicken burger got 3 tuff dry breaded chicken fillets in a bun? I ordered the New yorker ( premium hot dog with chilli) nothing premium about the hot dog and the minced beef chilli was forgetable and pretty bland to be honest. Coffees were nice. Wife went toilet and had to squeeze past pool and darts players to get there. Would I go back hmmm wouldn't be my first or second choice, possibly for a beer and nachos because they looked nice.

This truly is a great place, foods amazing, staff are nice and polite and friendly and atmosphere is great, come here on my camping trips an have lunch an a few beers it's great, would highly recommend, this is my favourite place to eat an drink in at Aviemore, 5 stars from me guys, great place will always come back here very happy customer,thanks guys 👌👍

I may have just caught them on a bad day but the service was just atrocious. The two girls working the bar and floor were more interested in chatting with their friends than actually serving customers. The one behind the bar kept barking at customers to stay at the door while they cleaned more tables (Except she didn't explain the latter bit, just barking "Stay there"). Once the food, and after having to prompt them, the cutlery arrives it wasn't too bad. About on par with a mid level chain pub. Everyone deserves a second chance but not in a hurry to go back here.

Came here for a breakfast and they didn’t even give us seats. Toilets are a long distance away. They literally chucked menus at us. My egg roll was dry. Music needs changed it sounds terrible!

I wasn’t a fan of this place in the past as I found it a bit pretentious, but we had time to kill before dinner so we stopped for one. What a pleasant experience! Was greeted by a server at the door who showed us to our table. She was so warm and happy, and seemed genuinely pleased to be at work! There were a few tables in, and a nice atmosphere with good tunes. Service was great, all table service despite being a bar, and i really felt like I was welcome. Customer service at its best.

Today after a very disappointing experience in the hotel across the road, we decided to try Mambos for lunch. We were greeted by friendly professional staff, who looked after up beautifully. We had a most enjoyable lunch and service was perfect.

Pancakes bacon and maple syrup. Flat white better than a certain chain brand. Come here for breakfast as we seen the huge platefuls but we love pancakes and bacon so went with that. Did not disappoint. All fresh made and absolutely the best we've had so far and we have this a lot. A hidden gem of a place and the guy behind the bar was lovely and I found out his wife is the chef so yeah girl your pancakes rock 😍

I actually popped in, in search for paying for little sauce packets certain places sell, the man behind the bar a charming manager was apologetic that he didn't sell any and then said to wait a second, I thought we were lucky and he had some in the back only for this lovely man to give us a full bottle of unopened heinze ketchup 🤣 it was a random act of kindness that made our night and our homemade camping burgers amazing! I wish i got your name. Thank you again my little sister was ecstatic, its the little things that places like these do that makes up for the love and customer care, I'll be hopefully visiting for my 26th this year! Stay wonderful!

Great service, fantastic food and great ambience. Vegetarian breakfast was out of this world. Literally the best I've had the halloumi was a golden touch alongside well cooked stuff. The fish and chips was ace also. We'll be back!

We ended up here as the places we'd planned to go to were busy. We were so glad, 8 of us 4 kids, played pool and had a lovely time. The food was so good. Especially the chilli chicken. We will definitely return on our next visit to aviemore. thanks, great service and food.

Let's start by saying that I thought the food was really good. I had the Venison burger and it was delicious and tasted like a quality product. I just can't whole heartedly recommended the place though. The staff were really friendly, but I kinda felt like that they were waiting on us leaving so the party could start. I get that it's a bar rather than a restaurant but having fellow patrons signing along with the songs at half six, didn't lead to a relaxing experience.

Went to Mambos 3 out the 4 nights we stayed in Aviemore. We had tea the first night and just wentfor drinks and a game of pool and darts. The staff were great, food was great, beer was great. Would definitely recommend it. :)

We were treated so rudely by one of the staff we literally had to just walk out. 4 of us popped in last Thursday late afternoon and asked for some cocktails. For reference we've been in there many many times over the years and drank cocktails there. After we were very abruptly declined I asked if there had been a change as we'd been in loads before and been served them. The staff member tried to tell me I had not. At that point the other guy on the bar, another young gentleman, possibly European said that he was happy to make them. But the first guy had an attitude about that too. I said it wasn't a big deal and we could just have other drinks, we had specifically asked for a cocktail as they had been good in the past thats all. My attempt to smooth things over got even more comments and attitude from the staff member. The level combativeness of the young Scottish staff member was unlike any treatment Ive ever received in a venue. It was so bad I genuinely thought he was trying to start a fight with me. And since it was a mixed group I wasn't going to let him speak to me or my partner like that. Let alone give him my money. If you're in town looking for drinks or food Id avoid here and instead go to Cheese & Tomatin, or The Balavoulin. Both great! And if you're the owner of Mambos, that guy is going to ruin your business.

Over priced £6.35 for hot chocolate and a mass manufactured biscuit staff stood around chatting instead of serving me. Go to Cobbs cafe next door cheaper and fresh bake at reasonable prices hot chocolate £1.60 fresh bake biscuits for £1 friendly and helpful staff.

Staff rude and would rather stand and chat than serve you.

Usually go here every time we visit aviemore and have the best time and enjoy some great drinks but this time and the last time was met with the worst reception. One specific staff member was very combative initially, we politely asked for espresso martinis and were abruptly told they don’t serve them despite having them for years in the past. Another staff member very kindly offered to make them and was cut of by said staff member who continually proclaimed “they are not on the menu”. Said staff member was then very rude and approached us loudly stating in response to my partner explaining we’ve had them in the past and asking if they could accommodate “ you’ve no had them here” and then “ when did you last have them here then? Cause you’ve no had them this year” . Was not welcoming and very rude. Extremely off putting and won’t be back on account of the staff member who was extremely combative and rude, not sure if he was the manner but his hospitality skills need serious work. To the staff member; there was no need for that approach, attitude or tone of voice. You were attempting to argue with us for simply stating we had, had them in the past. It’s a bar, you sell drinks. All you had to say was respectfully guys we don’t do them anymore sorry. End off. No need to be so aggressive. FYI, the staff member was Scottish younger and with short blonde hair working today around this time. I’ll be dropping by to speak to management.

Hosted a large gathering at Mambo's on their second floor. The service was outstanding and atmosphere was very conducive to having a great time. I highly recommend Mambo's for small or large events!

Not what it used to be. Not incredibly lively at all. Music would be good. Food took quite a while & was hot/worth it when it arrived. Selection of drinks is fine. Needs a bit more character adding in to the place.

Travelled up north on a Sunday hoping to get lunch at Dalwhinnie however nothing open. Kept going north and couldn't find anywhere open until Aviemore. Mambo was open and looked basic from outside however service was quick and the meals were great. Recommend the venison burger.

The hot chocolate and the coffee were really good, the chicken burger was nice but while the portions are a decent size the price is steep for the food you get. Wouldn't recommend the chicken loaded fries personally as they didn't agree with me. The lad that served us yesterday was an absolute grafter. Fair play to him.
