I had an amazing evening here and loved each course. I particularly enjoyed the cured duck and daikon snack and the rib of lamb. I was treated here for my birthday and I really appreciated the effort the staff made. No only did I get a birthday card, it was signed by all the staff. Before I left, I was given a small pot of honey as my birthday gift! Thank you Portland :)

Portland is really great! The tasting menu is wonderful, as is the very interesting wine pairing. We had some questions about the excellent sourdough and the chef gave us a loaf to take home!

Had a group dinner in the private dining room. We were very well taken care of. The food was excellent and the private room had the feel and ambience of a cosy dinning room. Staff were very accommodating of all our food/dietary requests. Highly recommend.

We had the early evening set meal which was wonderful

I had the tasting menu and it was really good, balanced, and the right portion sizes per course (IMO). My favorites were the asparagus and the sirloin. The welcome snack rolls are really good. The homemade lemonade was tasty but a little too sweet, the ice, melting and drinking it slow slowly helped. Also, a really good Americano, would go back just for that.

Pocket friendly alternative to hop on off bus. Took bus 453 to deptford bridge, took me through all landmarks.

Ate here for the first time and got their 10y anniversary set menu for £55. It was such a steal! I can tell they are keeping the highest standard including for the promotional set menus. The dishes were excellent and the service was great. I don’t eat pork and alcohol and I missed notifying them in advance but the staffs and chefs were so helpful. They took the note and modified the dishes on the spot without leaving me feeling any less from the food. Every dish is rich in flavours and unique in a safe way. The chef/staffs also gave some extra nibbles which made me super full and happy beyond my expectations. I’d come back and would recommend people to come!

Delicious, unusual, outstanding. Perfect for a date night

I went to dinner with my work team last night to Portland and we weren't disappointed. We were able to have the private room which made it feel very exclusive. The food on the whole was delicious. We had the set menu and the and the welcome snacks stand out - the mushroom macaron was outstanding. I had the rabbit starter which was tasty, followed by the monkfish which was nice but didn't wow, followed by the tarte tatin which I would definitely go back for! All the dishes were presented beautifully as you can see from the photos. The service from Lucy was great. Overall, Google doesn't do half stars as I would give the food and overall score 4.5. The reason is that most of the food was delicious but some was just nice; and 2.5 hours on the leather chairs wasn't totally comfortable (fabric material would be better). Thank you Portland!

Possibly one of the best meals that we've ever eaten. the serving staff were first class and being able to see into the kitchen made it a more complete experience.

As a food blogger, I don't recommend it because the experience is not good. The crust of the steak Wellington is too soft, as if it has been left out for a long time. It is said to be four courses, but the first one is too funny. It is just some snacks and desserts that are usually given away. I spent the money for two, but only got one? Others get one each. It was said that they could give a small dessert on special days, but there was nothing. At the end, there was no charity donation? I will not come again next time

Sorry but I didn't rate this highly. Its cafe size is gloomy with small tables, a strange and not exciting menu and expensive for what it was. I went due to good reviews and a Michelin star. I don't understand how it justifies a star.

Visited Portland for the second time, on this occasion for their celebratory 10 year menu. It was absolutely fantastic - every course superb. For the quality of the food it was excellent value for money in my opinion. The service is brilliant, so attentive and friendly. Thank you for an evening to remember, we'll be back!

Al comienzo de la comida no me informó el servidor que mi asiento del mostrador solo estaba reservado para 1 . 5 horas, y no tenía la impresión de que esto era un “almuerzo exprés” cuando había reservado en línea. No creo que 1. 5 h es tiempo suficiente para disfrutar correctamente de un menú degustación de 5 platos. Después de mi plato principal, el servidor me informó que el restaurante estaba “llegando tarde” y que necesitaban el respaldo para la 1. 30 pm. El servidor me recomendó que tuviera rápidamente el pre-postre y tomar mi tarta de manzana postre de tarta para llevar. Rushed service, feeling undervalued as a customer I had booked the Portland 10th anniversary 5-course tasting menu for a solo lunch at midday on a Saturday. At the start of the meal I was not informed by the server that my counter seat was only reserved for 1.5 hours, and was not under the impression that this was an “express lunch” when I had booked online. I do not think 1.5h is sufficient time to properly enjoy a 5-course tasting menu. After my main course, I was informed by the server that the restaurant was “running late” and that I had to give up my table by 1.30pm. The server recommended that I quickly have the pre-dessert and take my apple tarte tartin dessert to go. It was promptly presented to me in a takeaway box without a carrier bag, and the takeaway box was slightly sticky on the outside because some of the glaze had got on it. While I was still having the pre-dessert course, the petit fours were served and I was quickly presented the bill and my coat. This rushed experience was all a bit of a shock to me. I feel that customers should be informed how long they have the table for at the start of the meal, so that we can manage our expectations. Even so, I feel that 1.5h is not enough time to savour a 5-course tasting menu. I left the restaurant feeling like I was rushed out the door and felt unvalued as a customer. I last visited Portland in the summer of 2023 and the food and service was excellent. I hope this is a one-off issue and that better planning/time management for tasting menus is considered and and clearer information is provided to the customer in the future.

Calidad y calidad de la comida excelente. Servicio excelente. El entrante (cangrejo en una salsa cremosa) estaba en el lado salado para mi gusto. El plato principal seleccionado fue morir por venado acompañado de terrina de remolacha. La remolacha fue cocinada y exhibida inteligentemente y me pareció sorprendentemente comestible, aunque generalmente odio la remolacha. El postre estaba delicioso. Lo que fue realmente decepcionante y que definitivamente milita en contra de un regreso fue la disposición del restaurante - dos filas de mesas como una cantina de obras y la cocina abierta (algo pasada en la actualidad). No hay atmósfera o ambiente memorable. Botellas de vino muy caras incluso para un establecimiento Michelin de una estrella.

Came here to celebrate our anniversary and had their Portland 10 year anniversary tasting menu. There are about 5 courses including a pre-snack, first course, main course (beef wellington), side salad + potatoes, pre-dessert and a dessert. It is well worth the visit and worth the price. Service was amazing and servers were very attentive. Great atmosphere and also great wine list!!

Lovely atmosphere and great service. We came for the Portland 10 menu for their anniversary. The snacks were outstanding. Sadly dessert was a let down. The tarte tartin was overly sweet. Could have been broken up with a fruity or sharper pre dessert perhaps.

Brilliant food, service and quality, highly recommended

If you want food that tastes the best, rest assured, the food here is stellar. Modern British/ European style, generally it's an assortment of small bites with brilliant and complex flavours and textures that combine light and rich with near-perfect balance. The atmosphere is low key, but that helps create a non stuffy vibe. Professional, attentive service. £150 each for four courses (which you'll definitely want) plus a drink. It's a bit dear, but honestly, you easily get what you pay for, and when you're finished, you'll probably think you could've willingly paid more. Order the welcome snacks and mont blanc for dessert.

One of the best cuisine experiences in London, making beautiful creative dishes without complicating things. Collectively we agreed the desserts stole the show. The food and service is at the same level and beyond after visiting 2 years ago. A must visit.

We went here for a friend’s 40th and did the set menu in the private dining room. They are absolutely worth of their Michelin star and every dish was perfect and hit the right notes. The crab raviolo was the star of the night for me!

Is there a restaurant that you've always loved, one that has stayed at the top of your favorite restaurant list for years? A place where you and your friends go to celebrate all of life’s important moments, and even after a breakup, when you're feeling down, seeing an available table there is enough to instantly lift your mood—because who needs a relationship when you can have great food? You hope it wins every restaurant accolade in the world, but there's a bit of a dilemma—once the whole world falls in love with it, it'll become so much harder to get a table. Portland is that place for me. I’m so happy to see it reopen after a renovation this year, and I love it just as much as ever.

What a disappointment. Firstly, the food. Have you ever heard British cuisine get stick for being bland and boring? This place is the reason why. The flavours were incredibly dull, even when a lot was actually going on with the dish, you could only taste one or two things. Besides the underwhelming ingredients, the execution was also poor - the lamb main course was 60% fat and it hadn’t been rendered in the slightest, making it difficult and, frankly, unpleasant to eat. The only way to describe the wine pairings is “inoffensive” and that’s a compliment. The wine added absolutely nothing to the dishes, poorly selected wine with absolutely zero imagination. The only saving grace was the service which was very professional and friendly but unfortunately it doesn’t make up for everything else. If you’re after great British cuisine but want a positive experience, try The Dysart in Petersham or Dinner by Heston in Knightsbridge. Portland is not on par (or even in the same league) as those places.

We thoroughly enjoyed the tasting menu, the wines and the interaction with the staff, who were attentive, amusing and not obsequious. The little extras for our celebration were a nice touch, too. Michelin star deserved!

The food was not very tasty except the meat. The desssert was a slice of precooked cake absolutely tasteless, very strange for a michelin starred restaurant. Good attentive service but disappointing food. No sommelier.

Estrella Michelin Pensé mmh . . oh cocina nouvelle oh bueno mejor conseguir algo para la cena tarde en casa, ya que tendremos hambre! ¡Qué equivocado estaba! En primer lugar, al llegar nos recibieron en la puerta principal y nos llevaron a un lado para bajar en ascensor. Acabo de tener una cirugía de rodilla, así que las escaleras siguen siendo un desafío! ). Nos mostraron en el comedor que ya estaba instalado y nos recibieron con bebidas. Lo que siguió fue un flujo constante de la comida más deliciosa en la exhibición más imaginable de formas y colores. Inteligente más allá de las palabras la habilidad y la experiencia de estos chefs realmente fantástico. Lo que es más importante, el sabor exquisito de cada boca abrevadero oh desearía que uno pudiera embotellar cada uno y volver a él con regularidad! Cada plato fue explicado en detalle al igual que los vinos que bebimos. Si alguien tiene la oportunidad visite este restaurante ya que es simplemente fantástico. También hay que elogiar al personal que es excepcional de nuevo en su manera amable y profesional. Who would ever think that a restaurant across the street from the Horse and Groom pub could be so spectacular. Unbelievable experience. We had the tasting menu with the wine pairing. The food is amazing and can stand on its own but it was clear that the wine steward and the chef worked hard to create unique matches. Every dish/wine course was so satisfying that we wanted a second serving. And the service team, lead by a very skilled Italian woman, superbly complements each course with their explanations of the food/wine and their enthusiasm. We didn’t go to the restaurant because of its Michelin star but it was clear why they earned it. Our hats off to the entire team. Amazing experience.

Another incredible dining experience at The Portland Restaurant. The staff, the service, the menu! Executed to perfection and true taste journey with imagination. Highly recommend for those in the area. The ambience punctuated with a crowd of foodies in the know from all parts of the globe. As you sip wines carefully curated to compliment the menu or a cocktail you can sit back and enjoy dialects from all parts of the globe most likely all talking about how wonderful their dining experience is going! Relaxed fine dining in a cozy restaurant. The set menu is well worth its price and presents some beautiful and well composed dishes. The bread serving is quite memorable, it comes with hollandaise and butter. Finally the staff was attentive and friendly, which made for an overall relaxed and fun experience.

I admit I was a bit sceptical before going as I like big portions and thought, 'fancy restaurant, small portions' totally judging and happily wrong! 😀Everything was delicious! The soda bread was the best bread I've tasted. The mackerel and chorizo starter was too good! A great blend of salty and spice. The service was great and knowledgeable, The duck breast was cooked to perfection - look, just go, you need to try it for yourself! So good, my purse was empty by the time I left, but it was worth it.

I loved my experience at Portland last night! Not only was every bite of the food incredible (and the bonus extras of the fresh bread, butter and hollandaise, and the beautiful treats at the end) but the staff were so kind, welcoming, and helpful. I had to step out to take a call from my teen daughter, who had a tough day at school, and when I explained this to my waitress, she brought out a small pot of honey to bring her as a gift. How incredibly thoughtful. Would totally recommend this place for many reasons, and I will definitely be back!

Thanks for a very nice meal celebrating our anniversary. The food, wine, and service were all top notch. Special call out to the kitchen who managed our slightly unusual order - to have one each of the starters - with flair. Particularly enjoyed the pea & smoked egg dish, most unusual. A great location for a business meeting and topped off when you walk out of the restaurant and your guest says that it was the best restaurant that they have been to in a long while in London! (and he eats out a lot). What more could you ask for. It's not surprising that Portland are consistently rated one of the best restaurants in London!

A wonderful experience. This restaurant isn't cheap but worth every penny. The staff were fantastic, they made our birthday celebrations even more special. We had the tasting menu. (Didn't go for the wine pairing) recommendations for wine choices were great. We loved every dish and would recommend this as a special treat restaurant.

Really kind and welcoming they went the extra mile for my girlfriends birthday and they were very kind. Food was lovely 10/10 and was truly a great experience one I say I may never forget. All I can say is a big thank you to the staff and there team and big well done on such a great restaurant.

I was quite sceptic when my fiance wanted to go into this place, because, generally speaking, in Michelin stars restaurants, you pay for the experience but when you go out you will be still hungry. This restaurant, changed my idea about this. We chose the "DINNER — 3 COURSES" and each one chose something different so we could share. Every dish was truly exceptional. The service was impeccable too. We really have the feeling to be special for the whole dinner. It was a really great experience.

Food good - if a little fussy, service excellent. But it is phenomenally expensive - well over £100 per person, even without wine. I enjoyed the meal and knew, with a Michelin star, it would be expensive, but this seems over the top to me. I doubt I'll go again even though, in all other respects, I had an enjoyable evening.

So I actually went to Portland twice in one week - once for dinner & once for lunch. I had been here once the previous year, on my visit to London, so I knew what to expect.    1st visit - dinner - a compote with bacon pieces, winter Manhattan, then Partridge agnolotti, salsify, parsnip, smoked bacon & horseradish with many flavours (very nice), then Devonshire duck breast, confit leg, beetroot, clementine & chard with Sand carrots, pickled turnip, London honey & chervil. Everything was very nice and I enjoyed all the different tastes. To me, this adds to the dining experience past the functional needing to eat phase to a fun level of tempting your palette with a variety of flavours. The only annoyance was the optional service charge that is/was automatically added and, as it was Xmas, a charity donation was automatically added to the check - - if it's optional then DON'T ADD IT! 2nd visit - lunch - compote with bacon pieces, and Clove Negroni, then Partridge agnolotti, salsify, parsnip, smoked bacon & horseradish, then beef and artichoke dish for the main entrée, and dessert - dark chocolate parfait. All good and will return this next year for a new experience. I read another review on Portland about its Michelin star and the complacency that sets in with the restaurateurs once they get a star... Although my experience with Portland has always been good, in general I completely agree.  I have been to several Michelin star restaurants thinking that indicated a superlative food experience, then sadly confronted with the reality of being disappointed that those restaurants rest on their laurels and don't live up to their Michelin star rating after the day it was rated. In my humble assessment, I enjoy going to Portland but would recommend going once every (guessing) ~6 months or whenever the menu has a major change.

Brilliant restaurant, everything you would want to in a 1 star venue. Inventive, perfectly executed food, great service leaning towards friendly and informal, all in a relaxed and aesthetically pleasing setting (freshly renovated). Hard to fault in any way. Highly recommended for that special occasion when you are pushing the boat out a bit!

It was lovely to be back at Portland yesterday after it reopened following its refresh and new look. The restaurant looked terrific, the front-of-house team had a sense of energy and enthusiasm which added to the experience, and the food was first-class. How the chefs create such beautiful dishes comprising of such complementary flavours is an art in itself. I highly recommend the mackerel starter and pollock main - both brought together a medley of wonderful flavours. I hope they are not just a feature for August 🤞.

Excellent evening for 6 persons. Tasting menu provided lovely variety. Good wine list. All diners enjoyed the delicious food with the hogget and mackerel dishes being the favourites. The service was very good, attentive but not intrusive.

We chose Portland to celebrate our son’s 25th birthday as he’s a real foodie and lives fairly close. We were all absolutely blown away by our experience. We chose the tasting menu along with the wine pairing. This meal was the most memorable one of our lives and whilst the most expensive we will always remember it. Generous portions of incredibly delicious food and wine were served up by such friendly staff. Highlights for me were the smoked hen’s egg and the Dorset Horn Hogget All six courses were amazing and my veggie husband was so very impressed too! The staff had arranged a lovely birthday card and gift of infused jar of honey for my son as well as a birthday candle on a delicious dessert. Can’t thank them enough. Service was absolutely amazing and we were actually in the restaurant for roughly 3 hours. A fabulous leisurely lunch!

We always have an amazing meal at Portland, the food is well thought out, delicious and always cooked to perfection. The service is impeccable and the finishing touches great. The lunch time menu, in particular, is fantastic value.

We last ate here back in the time they had just won their star. We thought the food was pretty good, price reasonable and liked its unpretentiousness. In the meantime, the familiar story of complacency has set in to the extent that The Star gives a basis for offering the tiniest amount of food for the most money. We were a party of 4, and nobody felt like a 3 course lunch - why on earth not offer a 2 course option? Upon asking, they said 2 courses would be ok. My partner wanted main and dessert, and as we'd allowed 2 hours thought it would be ample. The Cornish mackerel was ok so far as it went - could easily have been eaten in one bite. Anyone would think mackerel cost the same as caviar. My mushroom dish was easily the best of the bunch. Texture and flavour were great, and the herby polenta perfect. It was also a decent portion. Others fared less well. The pollock was dry and bland (again, the cheapest of fish), the hogget quite tough and flavourless (and a morsel at best). Partner had a dish from the veggie tasting menu as a main, which was basically a 3rd of a broccoli floret and not a great deal more. Service was excruciatingly slow and he had to forgo the dessert as theatre time approached. The restaurant was barely 1/3rd full, so it's not like they were rushed. £267 for 4 is probably a low take for this place, but for what we actually had (one bottle of house white) was a total rip-off. Frankly I avoid Michelin starred places these days as they nearly always disappoint, particularly in the UK. There was absolutely nothing that marked out The Portland over dozens of non-starred competitors. What's more - in my opinion, anywhere that offers foie gras on their menu has zero sense of morality. They won't respond to this, as they're patently way above communicating with mere proles like us. Most interesting aspect for a political nerd like me was the Hon Member of Oxford West on the next table!! Avoid.

One of those restaurants you’d love to be a regular at. Effortlessly professional, warm front of house service in a stylish setting. Fresh produce served with simplicity and no shortage of elegance - paired with excellent wines. Modern British fine dining done very well, making for a birthday lunch that was worth every penny. Michelin star well deserved.

I went to the restaurant for a birthday and we had a great experience. The staff were very friendly and had even signed a card for the occasion. We had the 6 course tasting menu which was very filling, diverse and well considered.They were also very accommodating for a gluten allergy, substituting where possible and creating a different course option where not. They do ask you let them know in advance for this which is perfectly reasonable. I would definately recommend this place to anyone.

Dining at Portland was such a fun and memorable experience. It felt like going to a friend's house for precise, elevated, but approachable cooking. The menu was unpretentious, but focused and diverse. Flavors were bright and balance. Service was friendly, warm, and relatable. The staff was an absolute gem providing top class hospitality. There were so many thoughtful touches throughout our time there, especially a birthday card signed by the whole staff. Cannot recommend Portland enough. It was such a breath of fresh air in London.

My husband took me as part of my birthday week and we had such a wonderful experience. When we arrived, there was a birthday card on the table signed by everyone that works there which I thought was such a lovely touch. The food was absolutely divine and the service was impeccable. We had the 3 course lunch menu and it was great value. We hadn’t even finished and we were talking about when we could go back! At the end of the meal they gave me a pot of homemade honey as a birthday gift. Will definitely be visiting again.

Wonderful restaurant. Very special food but a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Not cheap but not stupidly expensive either. Staff are great.

Still one of my favourite go-to restaurants whenever I am in central London. Food, wine and service are always perfect. An absolute joy every time!

My favourite spontaneous reservation so far! Absolutely in love with the soda bread, butter and hay infused hollandaise!! The Somerset Saxon chicken, parfait, black pudding, apricot & Togarashi chips were divine. The service was excellent and the complimentary madeleine and chocolate was a perfect treat!
