Brilliant service by Noel. Shared his knowledge well. The food is exceptional and the wines on offer are well worth trying.

As always, a fantastic restaurant. The food was incredible and the service by Ash that night was friendly and extremely professional. She was a joy to talk to and made sure we had everything we needed. Highly recommended ❤️

Important to state we’ve been here many times before and the quality and service has gone down over this period, however last night was terrible. We travel from Salisbury to go specifically to the restaurant spending money on hotels and of course the food. Last couple of times we’ve noticed the service dip and last night we were taken to our table by the “acting manager” who explained they were short staffed and annoyed the owner had given too many staff holiday. Took ages to bring us the menu, ask us for drinks. We weren’t shown the special board until we asked as she “presumed we wouldn’t want it” which in fact we did. Acting manager kept making comments about the staffing issue to us which we didn’t need to know nor care about. Food came out and was very good, the chef is clearly great. Finished our steak and asked if we wanted sweet. We’ve ALWAYS had cheese and wine for sweet, at least 8 occasions so asked if we could wait until we ordered it as we were full from good food. That was no problem and asked to simply call them over when ready, which we did. Waitress (our 4th of the night) came over and explained she worked next door in the cheese restaurant and spent 2/3 minutes taking our cheese order recommending some for us. We then ordered more wine to compliment the cheese for when it came. 20 minutes later, no cheese and acting manager comes over and says “sorry, you can’t have any cheese as next door are too busy.” We politely said we were frustrated but could we see the dessert menu and told the kitchen was soon closing. It short, two more members of staff came over to explain the situation so clearly no communication had taken place. Then, the owner came over clearly looking for confrontation and was aggressive and confrontational in her communication to us. She was really goading my wife who we were there for her 50th birthday. We tried to explain the situation but said we had never had cheese before and that we were lying. Also, completely blaming her staff for the mistake and saying they were incompetent. My wife asked her to stop being so rude to us and she said to us she didn’t have to take how rude we were being!! We said just get us the bill and she continued to confront us. It was disgusting that an owner of the business was so rude, aggressive and confrontational and also prepared to throw her staff under the bus. We paid over £200.00 for the meal including the tip for the waitress and waiter who served us and were good in their service and the chef. As we were leaving I thanked those two for this service but explained their boss had blamed them and was confrontational and she came over to me again ready to go again!! I walked out. We noticed little things like dress code of staff, promptness, language used, body language over last couple of visits and it felt like the service of a cafe not a restaurant that does produce such high quality food in a lovely setting. All we wanted was some understanding and empathy and we’d have got on with it all but the owners attitude was nothing short of disgusting. Previous visits have meant some of our friends won’t go back but we went last night on our long term experiences but never again. Please go back to your old ways, including smart uniform not crocs and sports wear, this may sound petty but your food and the beautiful place it’s served in deserves better. As for the owner, her communication and attitude was shocking.

We were served with Toni who gave us excellent service. She was friendly and very attentive throughout our time at porters steakhouse. She made our experience effortless! The food was also exceptional and definitely worth the price. We will definitely be going again! Thank you.

We come regularly to this restaurant and we have never EVER experienced such a horrible service. They insisted we didn't have a reservation when we arrived, once we showed the guy our confirmation he said it was probably a problem with the system and proceeded to sit us on the worst table (tgere were several available), it wobbled so much our cutlery fell on the floor, the same guy that couldn't find the reservation said he would fix it but never did, we called another waiter and he held the table in place with some cards. Drinks took 25 min to arrive, food 45 just for the starters… they apologised but there wasn't that many people eating, never had such bad service before, staff was slow and spending too much time explaining things that were unnecessary, probably very inexperienced ..Meat came overcooked and we just couldn't eat fast enough to leave. Probably my last time eating here, such a shame because I used to love the place

Great lunch time menu choice, nicely presented and very tasty. Our waitress was Ash who was lovely, very welcoming friendly and polite, also knowledgeable with the wine menu. Service brilliant, not rushed . Would recommend and definitely return.

Liam and the girl (didn’t catch her name sorry) were both very attentive and friendly. The food was amazing and I was even brought out a birthday brownie at the end of our meal which was very thoughtful.

We came here for a bday dinner and had unbelievable service from Melissa, Tiegan & Camilla!! Steak was cooked to perfection and even surprised us with a little bday treat. Would definitely go back Xx

Have just had the most amazing Sunday lunch for Mother’s Day with my husband and 1 year old son. The food was incredible and the service and atmosphere was lovely. Our waitress Pati was so accommodating and made us feel really welcome. Will definitely be back again!

Booked here for a solo Mothers Day lunch. The food was delicious and the staff were very helpful and friendly. I had Liam serving me, and he couldn't have been more helpful. Eating solo can be quite daunting but felt completely relaxed during the whole meal due to his friendly manner. Thank you.

Amazing service and food, were served free prosecco for our anniversary!! Liam was absolutely wonderful at taking care of us and the food was cooked perfectly, not too long wait time either. A bit pricey but lovely for a special occasion.

This is the best roast in Southampton! The food is always great and the portions don’t hold back. The cauliflower cheese gets a an extra shout out, I would defo recommend to anyone!

The first time I visited Porters back in September I was amazed at how good the food was, and unfortunately I forget to pass on this by reviewing it on Tripadviser. My wife and I returned again last week, and actually thought this time was better, as such we convinced my parents and my sister and her partner to go this week, and yet again the food was fabulous, the service of the highest quality, even down to being recognised when we walked in the door. I genuinely think that they have the best roast potatoes of any restaurant (My wife and I argue over who does the best roast potatoes, this now has a third option) the quality and cooking is great, with a lovely mix of quality and quantity. The service is amazing very helpful, a lovely mix of familiarity, humour and professionalism. I don't understand why anyone would go anywhere else on a Sunday for food, and I have to go back on another day to see how good they cook a steak.
