Portenio in Shepway

We'd been planning to come here for months and took friends from outside the area. We should have tried it ourselves first. First Saturday after all the Christmas lights came on and the market stalls all opened up. The prices suggest a reasonable, respectable restaurant. (three course with wine + coffee = £50+ pp). We expected plates not plastic baskets. The lunch menu is very sandwichy (Burger bun, brioche, baguette etc. If you want other stuff (except steaks) you have to pre-book. They were out of burgers (NB this is Saturday early lunchtime!). We were told fries were included (we checked) then when the bill came we found out they weren't. The extra £16 could have bought some plates! The chorizo starter was very good, as were the Lomito steak sandwiches (apart from the plastic basket). Also, what's with "order at the counter" - is it a cafe or a restaurant (note prices)? Could be brilliant with not too much effort.

What an amazing restaurant! We had the best food here, the staff are so friendly and welcoming! We had 3 amazing courses which were cooked perfectly to my requirements. They included a chorizo starter, steak and ice cream. All very tasty and came out within perfect timing from each course. The restaurant had an Argentine Musician who was incredible and created a really cool atmosphere in the restaurant. A big thank you to Paula, you are very hard working and the food is incredible!! Thank you for having us. I would definitely recommend to all!

We have just returned from a fabulous evening meal at Portenio. The food was delicious, steaks cooked perfectly as was the sea bass. It was very busy and I’m glad we booked and came at 630pm - by 730pm there was only one table left. The sirloin steak was very tender and tasted delicious, the first steak I have eaten in many years that actually had its own distinct flavour. The staff were lovely, attentive without being intrusive, and the view spectacular. It was not cheap, but then good things never are. We will be back.

Gracias por tanto! I was so happy to finish my trip to Folkestone in such a perfect place! We didn’t have a reservation but tried our luck with a walk-in. Service and food excellent! and the view? amazing! That was what we needed. Paula was great! We were craving some empanadas and even though They had none left, She still made Some for Us. Everything was so delicious and the portion was huge for the price! The rest of the staff was also super friendly. Definitely recommend it! :) Nos vemos pronto! Victoria
