Poor customer service - two members of staff ignored us as we entered the restaurant. Asked member of staff is they were open for coffee and got the reply “what kind do you want”. Waited 20 minutes for two cappuccinos that were pure water. Member of staff had no manners in the slightest.

Having been here a few times after going to the spa facilities have been left disappointed. There is no organise between the waiting staff and the run about like headless chickens. The appear as if there is about 70 people in the dining area when reality it is only 7. A well placed waiter could do the job of everyone that was there in my opinion. It’s so bad it would put me of going here. This a shame as it is a lovely settling and could be so much nicer.

Over priced accommodation, very tired and poor facilities. The restaurant lacked atmosphere and food was most certainly below par both dinner and breakfast with over cooked monkfish curry and breakfast re-heated with warm apple juice and orange juice. The Spa facilities were a let down with the infinity pool closed due to chemicals issue then we overheard it was due to staff shortages and pool staff were incredibly rude to both myself and my daughter, for that alone, we most certainly won’t be back!

We recently stayed here for a wedding and had a fantastic experience from start to finish. The food for the wedding, as well as breakfast and lunch, was excellent, and the kids’ menu offered a great variety. Our family has a couple of allergies, and the staff were extremely reassuring and helpful in accommodating our needs. We stayed in one of the luxury apartments, sharing with other family members, which made the price very reasonable—especially for our family of five. The pool facilities were fantastic and kept the kids entertained with plenty of options for them to enjoy. The infinity pool was definitely a highlight! The staff were incredibly helpful and attentive throughout the weekend, making the entire experience seamless. We’re already looking forward to coming back for future family occasions.

We stayed in a lodge and met a friend who was staying in his camper on site. We arrived earlier than we should and went to try our luck for an early check-in which we were luckily granted by the young man behind the reception desk. He was very friendly and smiley, we asked several questions regarding booking the restaurant, visiting the leisure centre, breakfast and the location of our room…. We left none the wiser about any of these deciding that we would be best working it out for ourselves. He answered all our questions with uncertain ramblings. He was very pleasant though but couldn’t help thinking that the resort and future guests would all benefit from some training and familiarising with the hotels features, layout and amenities. We took ourselves to the leisure complex to find out all we wanted to know for ourselves and we were greeted by helpful, knowledgeable staff who explained the booking in facilities and available features. We booked in and returned for our designated 90min time slot later in the day. I have to say the pool, sauna, whirlpools and the main feature the outdoor heated pool are fantastic. They are clean, well-maintained and a really enjoyable, relaxing experience and watching the sun go down over Loch Fyne in November in a heated pool is a memorable experience to savour. Our room was in the lodge block which whilst a little reminiscent of student accommodation was clean easily-accessed, well appointed and comfortable. The bed offered a great night’s sleep, only slight issues were a settee that looked broken and out of shape (we didn’t investigate) and nowhere where my wife could sit and dry her and apply her warpaint. We met for dinner in an empty restaurant at 6and were told we couldn’t have a table until 8, news which we received stoically and prepared to sit out the wait with a few pints which were pleasant if a bit expensive and difficult to source. Dinner was pleasant if unremarkable, the soup and soufflé were tasty, the steaks tough but passable and the monkfish curry was minuscule but tasty. Key takeaways from the evening were the lack of training and leadership for the staff, they all tried hard to be friendly but they were so obviously short of training. Again I want to reiterate that they were friendly and tried hard but fell down on basic communication and ability to carry out the fundamentals of service, even putting down a plate seemed a bit of a stretch, training and leadership are required. All this for a bill of £250 (and that was just one of the cheapest wines on offer) Overall, great place, fantastic location, brilliant facilities but staff training should be a priority (train in the basics but don’t lose the smiles)

Spending a couple of nights at the resort for my wife's birthday we ate in the restaurant one of the nights and we were so glad we did. The food and service was excellent. Being so near Christmas the resort wasn't that busy which we preferred as it meant we received excellent service and attention from all the bar staff and restaurant staff we met. We chose a lovely bottle of Chenin Blanc and ate scallops and home-cured trout for starters and Monkfish and Fish and Chips followed by a selection of ice-cream and Crème Brule and an Irish Coffee to send us home to our quaint little dog-friendly cottage fully stuffed and happy happy.

Stayed here for one night at the start of the Loch Lomond and Cowal Way walk. Very impressed with the conversion from post industrial site to leisure complex and the spa and infinity pool were a highlight. We were in one of the lodges which was a bit of a trek in the rain from the main building but the rooms were lovely and there were leisure facilities at the lodge too, although we didn't use them. Food and service in the restaurant were good. I wouldn't say the food was exceptional but it was more than acceptable and pretty reasonable value, with a wide choice of dishes. Overall, would recommend and hope to be back in the futire.

Stayed for 3 nights. Stunning location and great facilities. Stayed in cabins, they appear to be very new and just need a few tweeks. More shelves in bathroom, mirror in main room as there is no where to dry hair. Access around bed difficult, very narrow and it takes a bit of dexterity getting in and out. Only other comment would be on the lighting along paths to cabins. Angle of lights at night make it just about impossible to see path and could be a serious tripping hazard. Something that should be addressed quickly. Apart from above, the time spent here was lovely and we would return.

I love Portavadie. I’m in the marina on our boat for a month boarding. I’ve been to the restaurant and the cafe. I’ve visited the spa and walked around the lovely grounds around the area. I’ve been to the wee shops and used the laundry. I leave for home in about two weeks. Thus, this review is to capture my experience overall. I fully endorse Portavadie. The staff are lovely. Big shout to Conor, who is a sweetie. I’d take him home with me, he’s so nice. Same to the lovely Peter. This lad is great. He chats away and makes a big effort. Same to the lovely adorable wee Indian girl in the shop. I think she is the nicest person. A pleasure to talk to. Also, big shout for the very handsome tall Polish man in the restaurant. I think you’re absolutely lovely. Your staff make all the difference, Portavadie management so I want to say they are great and have made my stay very pleasant. Your restaurant is very good and always open. A good choice of food too. And what a savour the wee shop is if you need provisions. I think the spa looks amazing too. Always busy, which shows how good it is. The grounds of Portavadie are great. They are kept very clean by lovely workers, who smile as you go by. All very pleasant. I’d recommend this complex and looking forward to returning. Thank you x

The warm welcome after a long day sailing from the friendly reception staff was only topped by the proffessional, helpfull and hands on support from Dave at Portavadie Marina. We were unfortunate, with breaking a wooden step into our cabin, and Dave provided us with materials and tools to sort it out. He even cut the wood to shape, which fitted and left us being able to continue with our holiday without any delay. Thank you Portavadie Marina!

Was on our radar for a while but could never get the timings right with our black Labrador and the cottage availability, managed a week during Glasgow schools October week and wasn’t disappointed. If you want a relaxing time away from it all this is the place, leisure facilities are awesome with a outdoor pool, jacuzzi and jet pool, the views are as good as you get, staff are always on hand and never intrusive, always there to open doors to get you back inside from the cold 👏 ❄️ 🌧️ , the booking system also works a treat 👍 Booked treatments for me and my wife in the Spa and one of rhe best experiences we have had, the therapists Shannon & Lucy nailed it, so good I booked again for the next day, would challenged anyone to have been in a SPA with such great views of the wild Scottish countryside ⛰️ We ate at the restaurant for breakfast and dinner and as you would expect with review so far, fantastic food and service, a big shout our to how they handle guests with dogs, separate dining and in no way troublesome to other resident. All in all a fantastic break but a big shout to all rhe staff at Portavadie for making it. Will see you all soon again, no doubt

Golden wedding celebrations My husband and I have stayed at the resort many times over the years. This visit was to celebrate our Golden Wedding Anniversary. From the moment we arrived it was just perfect. Although we had been many times we had never stayed in a three bed apartment. It was terrific. Absolutely spotless and the views from the balconies were stunning. All the facilities are excellent. The staff at the leisure club could not have been more helpful and accommodating to us especially as we were a group of fourteen.. We had all our meals in the restaurant. I specifically asked if we could have the upper level to eat. This wasn’t a problem. The food from breakfast to dinner was excellent as always. Pavan and his staff were so polite and attentive and whatever we asked of them they accommodated. A special thank you to Allison who was extremely helpful to us before our visit. My first ever review was titled “ Hidden Gem”. It still is!!! It’s a wonderful relaxing place to be and we can’t wait to go back

I had the pleasure of a weekend away at Portavadie with my partner and her family (6 adults and 4 children). We dined at the restaurant twice for dinner and twice for breakfast. Breakfast offers a continental breakfast and cooked options. It was, at best, average, not much to complain about here but a Premier Inn breakfast is better and offers more choice. Coffee is included but you have to pay if you want anything other than filter coffee. Dinner. Night 1 nightmare: we had booked dinner for 18h00 and the restaurant was pretty empty when we arrived. It took about 20 minutes for them to take our order and then another 70+ minutes to deliver it. Not fun when you have young kids in the party. Complaints achieved apologies but no explanation or rectification other than a free bottle of wine the next night. Dinner. Night 2: 17h30 start and everything came fast including constant checkups on how we were doing. Maybe a bit excessively but obviously an over correction. The food was inconsistent. Some food was lovely, some was average and several dishes varied from the menu, either missing ingredients (like baby potatoes) and having extra. The prices are steep, at this level you expect polished service and impeccable food, but this was a hit and miss experience.

Think about what you want from a location. What are the top things that you want? - First rate customer service - High quality facilities - Cleanliness - Great food - A nice atmosphere for work/relaxation - "Yes we can" attitude from staff I don't know if I have ever encountered more professional, helpful, friendly and supportive staff than I have here at Portavadie. Every single staff member, from the restaurant to the leisure facilities was beyond friendly, went out of their way to ensure that I was looked after, and offered a warm greeting. The facilities in the leisure/spa section were superb, a wonderful pool with clean changing area, a great gym with treadmills, free weights and other equipment. Everything was spotlessly clean. The food we had was delicious...right down to our take-away pizzas. A special mention for my desert of chocolate ganache! The atmosphere in all areas is relaxed and welcoming. Any question or request I had was met with a smile and a solution from the staff...what more can you ask for? 10/10

So I was here 10 years ago for a family wedding, staying in a town house apartment, before the spa and leisure facilities where open and thought this place was fantastic and couldn't wait to come back. I was absolutely prepared to and thought I would to give this place a glowing review and 5 stars. Unfortunately I cannot. My problem here is the use of the word luxury, and it seems to be a trend amougst hotels offering "luxurious accomodation" but actually not living up to the the claim. Granted we stayed in a lodge room which doesn't actually claim to be luxurious, but it does claim to be good for active breaks and is contemporary. I feel it was contemporary some time ago and even those who like active breaks probably don't like mould and mildew. The bathroom, the carpets, the walls and the furniture are all tired, not the cleanest and in need of some attention. The toilet, although hard to picture, was black around the rim, there was mildew growing on the tiles, shower tray and worst of all, the soap dispenser which is the only toiletries that you get. The out side was bad enough so I dread to think what the inside was like and people are expected to use that to wash. It was all a little grim and in need of attention. Owning holiday accomodation ourselves this is something I wouldn't accept in what I personally offer and would have something like that dealt with right away, as would I stains on the carpets. OK, so the good points, the beds are comfy, albeit there was something that looked like blood on my pillowcase, the view was lovely and, although we never used it the lounge area of the lodge is lovely and a nice idea if there is a group staying together. The restaurant is nice, the staff are great, the breakfast was brilliant and the location is great. The pool and spa facilities are great but I would also say that these could be cleaner and could use some attention and updating. Im disappointed, I cant deny that, it was an expensive stay to be let down by something that is as easily sorted as cleanliness. Having said all of that I would like to come back and stay somwhere other than the lodge next time. We will see. Location is amazing and it's still worth a visit.

We are frequent diners to this restaurant, and have always enjoyed the food and service. However, on a recent visit - August 2021 - we unfortunately experienced a drop in standards, both in terms of service and the quality of the food. Service was completely...

Beautiful little place and a very scenic road to get there. The SPA was great despite all the Covid measures. I particularly enjoyed to swim in the outside heated pool!! The menu at the restaurant was also very good. We will be back!

Lovely setting overlooking the Marina with yachts aplenty. Very modern restaurant very light and airy - and in this time of Covid -well spaced out tables. No paper menus - only online. Disconcerting for the oldies!Had beautifully presented food, salmon with lightly pickled fresh veg (super) and horseradish cream and home made blinis. The Gigha halibut was the best cooked we have ever had, with great crust and beautifully cooked vegetables. I gather Damian was on duty in the kitchen and he should know we left very happy indeed. Could have been in any fine dining restaurant anywhere. We like our food, so should know excellent cooking by now!We hope to return shortly.

Impressive selective menu. There’s no point in doing a huge menu ‘meh’ when you can do a small menu to perfection. Making fresh vegan gnocchi for my daughter was no problem. The fish was fresh in crisp fresh batter. The chicken was great and the langoustine was perfect! Service was excellent and the surroundings were sublime - although the feeling of the ‘resort’ felt a little weird or Truman Show!

Had an overnight stay at Portavadie with my family. Accommodation was spotless and well equipped, views over the marina and the surrounding countryside were breathtaking .We had lunch, dinner and breakfast in the on site restaurant, beautifully presented. Highlight being locally sourced langoustine, straight out the loch and for the younger members of our group home made Pizza. Lots of choice on the menu and excellent service throughout . In the evening we enjoyed dinner and cocktails . Unfortunately due to current circumstances the Spa and leisure facilities where not open but can’t wait to go back when current restrictions are relaxed . Wonderful destination for walking and sightseeing and a little piece of luxury .

We were here shortly after hotels started to re-open. The restaurant was operating under COVID-19 restrictions and the staff were great but we felt really sorry for them, the face coverings did not look comfortable and made communication difficult. The food was good, we had a burger and the fish of the day.

We have had a fantastic visit, staying in rooms with a stunning view of the loch. Pleasant interior design enhanced the rooms. A welcome bath and shower and a very comfortable bed. Food was also delicious -gluten-free not an issue. Friendly, courteous staff rounded off a lovely sojourne by Loch Fyne.

The view is outstanding! ...and the hotel and restaurant are certainly (and rightly) the best in town. We only visited the restaurant and the lounges. Unfortunately, the food and service didn't impress me: the menu is interesting and varied, the meal (spiced couscous with fish) was tasty, but unfortunately greasier than necessary. The service seemed a bit helpless and insecure. The ambiance is certainly beautiful thanks to the great view, but the decor is quite simple. I would still recommend a lunch visit to the Western Isles Conservatory to everyone.

Stopped here without any knowledge of what they're serving. But the weather was beautiful and we fancied some tea and drinks. Oh my world, what a stunning little find. The drinks were great and a good price too but the food...oh my...the food was phenomenal! I'll be looking at booking a room here for our next Scottish trip away. Amazing.
