Ok so we visited on a dark horrible day but was absloutey blown away on how nice this place was, we had two breakfasts and they really was fantastic, no grease and the sausages were incredible. My only issue it could have been warmer inside but honestly didn't ruin the experience, we also had cake and the tea was served in tea pots with lovley tea cozies, would I return ? 100%, service was brilliant and it was so clean and honestly hand on heart breakfast was one of the best I have ever had. Even felt like the 1940s incredible experience thank you poppylands see you again before Christmas

Really well worth a visit. Good range of imaginatively named menu items, including daily specials most invocation of 1940s food. Have enjoyed their bubble and squeak on previous visits. Tea is always served in teapots with hand made themed cosies. Sweet and gift shop contains many childhood memory items. Only suggestion is that the cornish pastie should be served with crisp pastry and not 'limp', ( microwave?). Good trip for explaining 40s life to grandchildren.

Run by a WW2 history enthusiast, this was a great place to stop for a coffee and cake. The Second World War memorabilia is extensive and there is no doubt about the enthusiasm and dedication by the owner to imparting a feel for those momentous times.

Fantastic experience. The amount of effort they have put into this vintage, adorable cafe is a real credit to the dedication of the staff. The portions are huge and the cakes are all homemade. They have so much memorabilia and models, it is an incredible cafe. And the gift shop is lovely with a great guy behind the till who is very friendly and experienced.

Booked a table for 4 for breakfast, paid deposit upfront. First impressions were good, lovely nostalgic displays and touches, however the service was so bad we thought we might accidentally have stumbled into Fawlty Towers instead. The younger staff were friendly but possibly lacking in training. One older female member of staff was really rude, verging on hostile and made us feel very uncomfortable. You are expected to pay as you go, rather than order drinks, breakfast and then continue to add cakes and more drink and pay when your meal is finished. This became really stressful as the staff were unable to work out how to split the bill each time or deduct the deposit, so we felt pressured into needing to pay for everyone's rather than individually. This would have been a much easier transaction at the end of our meal rather than in stages. The bill was eventually sorted by a helpful young lad who split it down after the surly lady had stomped off. I suggest that if you want people to pay in that way, make it counter service, not table service. Scrambled egg on toast was inedible, various variations on breakfast were ordered and none were good. The knitted tea-cosies had dried food stains on them, the canned drinks were excessively expensive. Plus points are, decent cake, if you dare ask for it, decor is really good if you have an interest in wartime history and the gift shop and old fashioned sweet shop was a completely different environment with friendly warm service. We really wanted this place to be good, and would've returned many times over as it's reasonably local, but it was so disappointing we won't be returning or recommending, which is a shame.

We popped here after our visit of Horsey Gap to warm up a bit with a nice cup of tea. We haven't book a table and were lucky to have a table because it is quite busy during weekend. I suggest making a booking if you want to have a lunch here! The place is lovely and well themed. It is like stepping back in time with all the decorations, music ambiance and dishes. The ambiance is very cosy and comfortable. We only had cups of tea as it was a bit early to eat but we regretted not eating here. Food looks good and generous. Also the price is very affordable! We also visited the gift shop and bought some local honey. I definitely recommend buying some if you love honey.

We asked for a table for 4 people, she showed us to a really nice table in the corner which I noticed had a reservation notice on it. When I mentioned the reserved notice she said you'll have to be gone before 13.30 this table has been booked! She walked off, we sat down about 5 mins later she came to take our order, we were still looking through the menu. The food was really good, but it felt a very rushed meal. A very enjoyable visit was had here. Be warned despite being out in the countryside away from much else, it is very popular, and we only managed to squeeze into the carpark and the Tearoom. Service was polite and very quick, a sure sign of a busy place. Note that payment is taken on ordering before anything arrives. While the food is above average, the main attraction is the atmosphere and ambience of which it has plenty.

We, like SPARKELS7797, went in from recommendation but was quickly disappointed by the staff and lack of allergy information on the menu. Firstly, we found a table outside and was not shown to one or advised to collect a menu from an unmanned area. We asked inside as was abruptly told that it is table service and that someone would be with us soon. Another customer told us where the menus were in the end and when it came to review, the only allergy advise was to ask when ordering. We waited nearly 10 minutes and no site of waiter or waitress so decided to leave. Poppylands looked like a very interesting place place in a very secluded area. Being an Army Veteran I was very excited to have a look around but sadly could not wait to take my service elsewhere which we did, 3 miles along the road to Dunes Barn Cafe. There we were welcomed and the menu had allergy information which really helped with our order.

Mixed emotions about this visit. This is somewhere I have wanted to visit for years but due to some health problems over the recent years only been able to visit recently. If you love all things vintage like me, you will love looking round this place. Gift shop was amazing, very reasonable and staff in the shop were amazing and very friendly. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about the waitresses, possible one of the rudest experiences, I have ever encountered in a restaurant. We were greeted with sarcasm from the very start and it only got worse from there. Food is delicious and great value but the sour service we experienced did ruin our experience and made us just want to eat and run. Very upsetting as this was one of my first visits out in a while due to having complex ptsd and severe anxiety. If it wasn't for the service of the front of house staff, I would definitely return in the future. Maybe when they hire some waitresses with a bit more of that wartime spirit who keep smiling through! we would return again.... Very upsetting that a dream trip of mine was ruined, especially with the difficulties that I face with going out with my conditions. I hope this review will be noted and maybe make some changes, to allow people to experience the wonderful world of Poppylands with some FOH staff who serve and greet customers with a smile!

Saw this place on line and thought we would visit after a trip to see the seals. It was just after 9-30am and according to their website they were open. However, when we got there we were told they didn’t open ‘til 10am. We went and sat in the car. At the appointed time we went and had a look round the shop then went to enter the tearoom. The member of staff who greeted us informed us that she had a table for 2 but that it was booked for 10-45am. We said we didn’t expect to be long so she begrudgingly let us have the table. The people who were behind us she told to sit anywhere. The prices were higher than we expected so we just ordered a drink. The waitress held her pad expectantly and said “ No food?”. I felt as if we had committed some terrible crime and I noticed she had written on her pad. NO FOOD. We felt very uncomfortable and I agree with someone else’s review. I think you have to be a local/ regular. We left feeling as if there was something very strange about US but I’m glad to know we weren’t the only ones. I’m sure it is a fascinating place but I wouldn’t go back if you paid me.

We first visited Poppylands a couple years ago and fell in love great staff, friendly atmosphere and great food. We were really excited to visit again this year and had planned our day around breakfast, when we arrived at opening time we waited while they set up. Around 10min later a lady came over and gave us menus and returned a short while later to take our order, the lady wasn't welcoming and didnt even crack a smile. She took our order as we gave our order by name on the menu she replied 'now say that in English!" If you've visited poppylands you know the items are name as various ww2 themed like dambuster breakfast ect so this is how we ordered and she said the same to us all then we had to read out the whole item to her. Before our items arrived we were presented a card machine which was presented on the tip page! Going for our service so far we were not tipping! Now here's the good bit! While waiting for our drinks I had a bumble around the amazing little shop still hoping they stocked the bbq sauce I got a couple years ago 🤣 and they did! The gentleman who ran the shop made us feel very welcome, he engaged with my daughter and had a laugh with me. After our food I returned to buy my goods and was very happy with the value of items and amount of choice and help. If you do visit make sure you get the poppy badge for remembrance. Returning back to our breakfast, the wait wasn't too long but the eggs on the breakfast were all hard and not the quality we membered from before. I'm sad to say till staff changes we will not be returning for food or just just a visit to the amazing little shop that sells all your holiday souvenirs and more! Do try the bbq sauce 😁

My family and I visited poppylands tearoom on 21st August 2024. We first visited the outside shop and purchased a couple of items for my 7 year old son. The gentleman serving was very professional and had good customer service whilst having a joke with my son and I. However, we then entered the cafe, and there was a younger gentleman who was carrying food items. I said after you and let him past. No acknowledgement from him whatsoever. We found a table upstairs and chose from the menu. I went to the counter downstairs to order and was told it was table service and to remain seated. After approximately 5 minutes, an older lady approached the table next to us to collect their used china. I said, "Excuse me, hoping that she would take our order first," as this would be a more productive option. I was ignored, and the lady went back downstairs. We waited approximately 10 more minutes and then left. Extremely poor customer service in the cafe and service in general. It is very expensive for what it is. I would advise you to have a look around and then go elsewhere. Numerous places with very good service in the local area.

This place took us a bit by surprise when we first walked in. You can see the passion, heart and soul that has gone into decking it out with as many authentic items as possible, which gives it a great look and feel. The added quirky extras, like the tea pot covers are a brilliant touch. We had cream teas with home made warm scones, which were lovely. The price was reasonable too! The only thing I would change to make the experience better, would be to kit the staff out in 1940's dress to match the whole theme. I would recommend a visit if you are in or near Horsey. You won't regret it!

Thought this would be a nice place to go for some afternoon tea and cake, turns out it was the opposite. Almost immediately we were met with rude service and witnessed this particular member of staff rip a menu from a customers hand and tell them to go and wait outside. Never have I ever seen such horrific service, and then didn’t even give them any menus. We were also told to go outside as they didn’t know we were there despite another staff member telling us it was table service so they knew of our presence, especially since we were a group of 6. On top of this the coffee was burnt and the milk was burnt. Tea was like dirty dishwater. How a tea room cannot make tea or coffee is beyond me. Waiting staff had no personality or confidence, seemed to lack training and interest. They won’t allow any changes to menu items no matter how simple, and prices are extortionate on top of it all. An extra charge for having a non-dairy milk seems very extreme considering the prices anyway. No cakes for dairy-free people is also a shame. STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS. Woeful

We visited for afternoon tea having been recommended it by friends. We were shocked by the rudeness/abrupt nature of one key member of staff, and total lack of customer service in general, plus terrible tea and coffee, and a milkshake that wasn't cold & was more squirty cream than milk. Thankfully the scones were huge and delicious, as was the cake - hence the 3 stars for food. The very friendly gentleman in the gift shop could teach the other staff a lot about customer service. It’s such a shame that our experience was so poor, as this place could be fantastic. It’s a great idea, and we wouldn’t have minded paying their hugely inflated prices if we’d enjoyed our afternoon tea & felt welcome to look around the fabulous array of 1940’s memorabilia. NOT RECOMMENDED!

Updated review for our visit on 4th August. A quirky tearoom based on a WWII 1940's theme. The decor is fitting and quite clever and there's a really nice gift shop outside along with a replica 'unexploded' bomb exhibit! I like now they have added some 1940's music in the background. The afternoon tea was very good overall, but we had to choose just one sandwich each before it arrived. This was quite odd, as an afternoon tea should have a variety of sandwiches on offer. So we ended up with just ham. Still the savouries, cakes and scones were amazing and great value!

Blown away by the layout! We ate on the upper floor and it was an absolute pleasure! The food was nice, the service was pleasant enough (the staff seemed a bit rushed), but the atmosphere absolutely made the experience a treat. We took our two dogs and one puppy with us and felt very welcome with them. We definitely will be visiting again.

Out for a drive whilst on holiday with my son and came across this place as we happened to be hungry. What a surprise!!! We were both amazed at the collection of memorabilia and the theme and decor of the inside and outside. We both had all day breakfast, tea, and then banana milkshakes to finish. Absolutely delicious! Great, quick service, beautiful settings and lovely food at reasonable prices. Will definitely visit again!

What a lovely place to stop for a coffee and treat or lunch. The team at the Rocket House are very friend, the food is good quality and the view is excellent. My coffee was Mocha and my cheese scone was delicious. My husband loved his warm sausage roll and Latte. It set us up perfectly for or walk to Sheringham!

Very good! Popped in for a takeaway snack at lunchtime. Staff were friendly, food was very good, chips weren’t greasy, fish was a good size, battered sausage was well cooked & flavourful. All the food was very hot when served! Price was reasonable for adult meal & kids meal.

Great little cafe. About 1/4 mile down a narrow lane with passing places, but well worth the diversion. Perfect for just a coffee and a scone/cake, or something more substantial, with an excellent hot food menu choice. We found it on Google maps when heading north after visiting the seals at Horsey Gap. Will definitely pop by whenever we're in the area.
