This place is very popular and busy, yet we were still served quickly and the food was delicious. Every surface is covered with memorabilia, making it fascinating and atmospheric. We did struggle a bit with the wheelchair, but the staff were very helpful and we were able to get inside to eat. We even got around the shop without trashing it, thanks to the lovely lady who moved stands, etc out of our way. Talking of the shop, what a treasure trove!

Was really looking forward to visiting But on arrival was told inside seating was fully booked... Fine so we went outside.. No menu's on the table !! Went inside to ask how to order and before finishing my sentence I was abruptly told ' outside' !!!!! Trying the question again was told again OUTSIDE !!!!!! before finishing the question... So we proceeded to take our custom elsewhere.... Such a shame on a beautiful sunny day....

Amazing Tearoom full of 1940 memorabilia. Lots to choose from on the Ration Book (Menu), reasonably priced. Nice atmosphere. The Service in the Tearoom was overall excellent, except for our one. We asked for a table for 4 people, she showed us to a really nice table in the corner which I noticed had a reservation notice on it. When I mentioned the reserved notice she said you'll have to be gone before 13.30 this table has been booked! She walked off, we sat down about 5 mins later she came to take our order, we were still looking through the menu. The food was really good, but it felt a very rushed meal. When we go again we'll definitely book.

I called here as I was in Norfolk on holiday and I had read about it and wanted to experience the tea rooms. It didn't disappoint. Very dog friendly. I had Wilma with me (miniature dachshund). We sat outside, but could have gone inside upstairs. Lovely bacon bap (although named something else in the menu) :) Great atmosphere and fabulous nostalgia. Would definitely recommend. Service was very good and the bacon bap was excellent with a pot of tea and a fabulous tea cozy! Do visit!

Beautiful 1940's themed cafe. "Proper" sandwiches with loads of filling. Lovely setting. Outside, covered seating available. Also dog friendly. Dogs are also allowed inside upstairs. Very cosy atmosphere. Service very good but can become very busy, especially when the coaches decide to drop in. Prices very reasonable for the amount of food you get. Well worth a visit.

Absolutely loved the food and the place, staff was a little off didn't really have customer skills and felt was really odd receiving our drinks and having to pay for everything before food came out,the drinks was brought to us and no sooner a card reader was pushed in our faces, only reason I can think this was done is maybe they have had alot of people walk out with out paying. I did leave absolutely stuffed as the chips was really old school it was all fantastic customer skills could have been better.

Second time visiting for lunch and took friends for the first time. Sadly, I thought that the food was not quite up to the standard of our visit and the service, whilst excellent when it came, was a little slow in coming up to the top floor and then spitting that we were waiting. Our guests loved it but we felt it could have been better based on our previous visit. Would still come back though.

Didn't expect to find a themed place like this in this area. 1940s themed tea room with a fantastic menu and lots of memorabilia all were dishes reasonably priced. We, like SPARKELS7797, went in from recommendation but was quickly disappointed by the staff and lack of allergy information on the menu. Firstly, we found a table outside and was not shown to one or advised to collect a menu from an unmanned area. We asked inside as was abruptly told that it is table service and that someone would be with us soon. Another customer told us where the menus were in the end and when it came to review, the only allergy advise was to ask when ordering. We waited nearly 10 minutes and no site of waiter or waitress so decided to leave. Poppylands looked like a very interesting place place in a very secluded area. Being an Army Veteran I was very excited to have a look around but sadly could not wait to take my service elsewhere which we did, 3 miles along the road to Dunes Barn Cafe. There we were welcomed and the menu had allergy information which really helped with our order.

A very enjoyable visit was had here. Be warned despite being out in the countryside away from much else, it is very popular, and we only managed to squeeze into the carpark and the Tearoom. Service was polite and very quick, a sure sign of a busy place. Note that payment is taken on ordering before anything arrives. While the food is above average, the main attraction is the atmosphere and ambience of which it has plenty.

Mixed emotions about this visit. This is somewhere I have wanted to visit for years but due to some health problems over the recent years only been able to visit recently. If you love all things vintage like me, you will love looking round this place. Gift shop was amazing, very reasonable and staff in the shop were amazing and very friendly. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about the waitresses, possible one of the rudest experiences, I have ever encountered in a restaurant. We were greeted with sarcasm from the very start and it only got worse from there. Food is delicious and great value but the sour service we experienced did ruin our experience and made us just want to eat and run. Very upsetting as this was one of my first visits out in a while due to having complex ptsd and severe anxiety. If it wasn't for the service of the front of house staff, I would definitely return in the future. Maybe when they hire some waitresses with a bit more of that wartime spirit who keep smiling through! we would return again.... Very upsetting that a dream trip of mine was ruined, especially with the difficulties that I face with going out with my conditions. I hope this review will be noted and maybe make some changes, to allow people to experience the wonderful world of Poppylands with some FOH staff who serve and greet customers with a smile!

Saw this place on line and thought we would visit after a trip to see the seals. It was just after 9-30am and according to their website they were open. However, when we got there we were told they didn’t open ‘til 10am. We went and sat in the car. At the appointed time we went and had a look round the shop then went to enter the tearoom. The member of staff who greeted us informed us that she had a table for 2 but that it was booked for 10-45am. We said we didn’t expect to be long so she begrudgingly let us have the table. The people who were behind us she told to sit anywhere. The prices were higher than we expected so we just ordered a drink. The waitress held her pad expectantly and said “ No food?”. I felt as if we had committed some terrible crime and I noticed she had written on her pad. NO FOOD. We felt very uncomfortable and I agree with someone else’s review. I think you have to be a local/ regular. We left feeling as if there was something very strange about US but I’m glad to know we weren’t the only ones. I’m sure it is a fascinating place but I wouldn’t go back if you paid me.

We first visited Poppylands a couple years ago and fell in love great staff, friendly atmosphere and great food. We were really excited to visit again this year and had planned our day around breakfast, when we arrived at opening time we waited while they set up. Around 10min later a lady came over and gave us menus and returned a short while later to take our order, the lady wasn't welcoming and didnt even crack a smile. She took our order as we gave our order by name on the menu she replied 'now say that in English!" If you've visited poppylands you know the items are name as various ww2 themed like dambuster breakfast ect so this is how we ordered and she said the same to us all then we had to read out the whole item to her. Before our items arrived we were presented a card machine which was presented on the tip page! Going for our service so far we were not tipping! Now here's the good bit! While waiting for our drinks I had a bumble around the amazing little shop still hoping they stocked the bbq sauce I got a couple years ago 🤣 and they did! The gentleman who ran the shop made us feel very welcome, he engaged with my daughter and had a laugh with me. After our food I returned to buy my goods and was very happy with the value of items and amount of choice and help. If you do visit make sure you get the poppy badge for remembrance. Returning back to our breakfast, the wait wasn't too long but the eggs on the breakfast were all hard and not the quality we membered from before. I'm sad to say till staff changes we will not be returning for food or just just a visit to the amazing little shop that sells all your holiday souvenirs and more! Do try the bbq sauce 😁

This place took us a bit by surprise when we first walked in. You can see the passion, heart and soul that has gone into decking it out with as many authentic items as possible, which gives it a great look and feel. The added quirky extras, like the tea pot covers are a brilliant touch. We had cream teas with home made warm scones, which were lovely. The price was reasonable too! The only thing I would change to make the experience better, would be to kit the staff out in 1940's dress to match the whole theme. I would recommend a visit if you are in or near Horsey. You won't regret it!

My family and I visited poppylands tearoom on 21st August 2024. We first visited the outside shop and purchased a couple of items for my 7 year old son. The gentleman serving was very professional and had good customer service whilst having a joke with my son and I. However, we then entered the cafe, and there was a younger gentleman who was carrying food items. I said after you and let him past. No acknowledgement from him whatsoever. We found a table upstairs and chose from the menu. I went to the counter downstairs to order and was told it was table service and to remain seated. After approximately 5 minutes, an older lady approached the table next to us to collect their used china. I said, "Excuse me, hoping that she would take our order first," as this would be a more productive option. I was ignored, and the lady went back downstairs. We waited approximately 10 more minutes and then left. Extremely poor customer service in the cafe and service in general. It is very expensive for what it is. I would advise you to have a look around and then go elsewhere. Numerous places with very good service in the local area.

We visited for afternoon tea having been recommended it by friends. We were shocked by the rudeness/abrupt nature of one key member of staff, and total lack of customer service in general, plus terrible tea and coffee, and a milkshake that wasn't cold & was more squirty cream than milk. Thankfully the scones were huge and delicious, as was the cake - hence the 3 stars for food. The very friendly gentleman in the gift shop could teach the other staff a lot about customer service. It’s such a shame that our experience was so poor, as this place could be fantastic. It’s a great idea, and we wouldn’t have minded paying their hugely inflated prices if we’d enjoyed our afternoon tea & felt welcome to look around the fabulous array of 1940’s memorabilia. NOT RECOMMENDED!

Thought this would be a nice place to go for some afternoon tea and cake, turns out it was the opposite. Almost immediately we were met with rude service and witnessed this particular member of staff rip a menu from a customers hand and tell them to go and wait outside. Never have I ever seen such horrific service, and then didn’t even give them any menus. We were also told to go outside as they didn’t know we were there despite another staff member telling us it was table service so they knew of our presence, especially since we were a group of 6. On top of this the coffee was burnt and the milk was burnt. Tea was like dirty dishwater. How a tea room cannot make tea or coffee is beyond me. Waiting staff had no personality or confidence, seemed to lack training and interest. They won’t allow any changes to menu items no matter how simple, and prices are extortionate on top of it all. An extra charge for having a non-dairy milk seems very extreme considering the prices anyway. No cakes for dairy-free people is also a shame. STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS. Woeful

Updated review for our visit on 4th August. A quirky tearoom based on a WWII 1940's theme. The decor is fitting and quite clever and there's a really nice gift shop outside along with a replica 'unexploded' bomb exhibit! I like now they have added some 1940's music in the background. The afternoon tea was very good overall, but we had to choose just one sandwich each before it arrived. This was quite odd, as an afternoon tea should have a variety of sandwiches on offer. So we ended up with just ham. Still the savouries, cakes and scones were amazing and great value!

We had a wonderful visit to Poppylands. You can book a table ahead of time (24 hours notice required) or walk-in. We arrived after 1pm and had no issue in finding a table. The 1940s theme is incredibly well done throughout the building and exterior, with the menu appropriately themed too. Such a shame! This place could be so good, but I've never known somewhere to be so completely inflexible with their menu. Our daughter only wanted to remove a couple of items from the selection listed for the all day breakfast, and replace them with bread & butter ( which we had already been offered separately). But would they do it - sadly, no. So she ended up having to order something she didn't really want, didn't enjoy, and left most of. A little bit of flexibility would go a long way Poppylands

It seems this place focuses more on the quirkiness of the theme, the decor and displays than anything else. Ordered cream teas, Victoria sponge and toasted tea cakes. Toasted tea cake never arrived. When chased, another 15 minutes passed with nothing arriving. At this point, with the rest of us finished, we decided to cancel the order as we were ready to move on. We went in, asked for and received, a refund. Then just as we were getting up to leave the server returned and said ‘sorry for the wait, your tea cake is just coming’! The scones and Victoria sponge we did receive were very dry. Definitely not freshly made. Really disappointing.

Poppylands is an unusual but delightful refreshment stop with a wartime theme, done with great humour and charm. Friendly, informal, with very good, traditional ploughman’s lunches, tea and homemade cake. Generous portions doesn’t get close - we stopped part way through a long walk and it was a good thing we’d worked up an appetite! It was busy whilst we were there, and clearly deserves its popularity. Lovely staff, and very dog friendly too.

I have never felt more unwelcome in a place than i did here, its a shame that we didnt even get to try any food as the moment we stepped upstairs we were greeted with unpleasantness and rudeness with staff rudely judging our party size and the fact we had a dog she then rudely said they were closing soon to which we decided to leave, had she said that first politely we wouldve understood but no from the moment we reached there it was pure judgement and unkindness, which is a true shame because it had a lot if potential from the looks.

This was our 3rd time here. Both other times it was amazing. This visit was horrible from the second we walked in. Tried to have us sit outside while it was pouring rain and cold. Then the waitress was the rudest never brought our drinks one of our party had to go get it herself. Waitress basically thru our food at us with a nasty snare on her face. She shouldn't be working there she wa absolutely the worst.

What a beautiful quirky little find! Not only was the food amazing and plentiful the decor and nod to the 40,s was just brilliant. This place is a must to visit if you are ever passing! A true little gem 💎

A real step back in time for anyone who is a fan of vintage and, in particular, wartime 1940s. From the decor to music to even the menu, everything has that era's nostalgic feel. Good old-fashioned British fare is available to eat, and even an Ovaltine or Horlicks are available to remind you of your childhood. Tea is served with Dad's Army "character" tea cosies in period cups and saucers. Felt quite jealous when we spotted other diners having afternoon tea. It isn't high-speed service, but this is a good thing, as it allows you time to relax and absorb your surroundings, with plenty for the eye to see around you. Stunning view from the authentically taped up windows gives a real feel of the wartime eastern coastline. It was nice to see that dogs are welcome. This is our third time visiting and definitely won't be our last.

Popped in as we were passing, Great little tea room, with an 1940s theme, there are little displays outside, there's a gift shop, where you can buy lots of different things. It's dog friendly, so you can either sit outside or indoors upstairs with your dog. It's not a huge place, but it doesn't feel cramped, we only had hot drinks, coffee, Bovril and Ovaltine. ( you don't get the last two in most other places). We also had a cheese scone, warm, with butter and onion chutney, and two chunks of bread pudding cake, delicious. The staff a were in retro uniform and all very nice. Not to out of the way in price either. Going to go back again most definitely. 😁

We arrived around half past 7 for our booked table, we were greeted by a friendly young lady who said that due to staff illnesses there was only one chef in the kitchen and there had been two large tables orders put into the kitchen, so warned us there may be a delay. We took our seats and ordered drinks, knowing they were pushed, we relaxed and didn’t worry too much, although the server came over and took our food order as soon as she was free. I ordered the Aviator burger and my partner ordered the Halloumi burger, minus the mushroom. We decided to mull over our day, so when our food arrived, it was somewhat of a surprise! It was well worth the wait too, my burger was tasty well cooked and the bacon jam was a lovely addition. The Halloumi burger was just as tasty. We didn’t take long to eat them as we were hungry. After we’d finished and our plates were cleared we were offered the dessert menu, which we both chose from, I had the sticky toffee pudding and my partner had the brownie. Both were well presented and the accompaniments were perfect. The food was excellent and the service was exemplary, given they were short staffed the team did very very well.

A massive Thank you for our Takeaway delivery! We were staying in a holiday lodge and so didn’t know the area at all but were hopeful that you could deliver to us! We felt that you went above and beyond to make sure that we got the delivery and the food was very tasty with HUGE portion sizes! It arrived piping hot (even though was delivered!) and it was a very speedy process from ordering to arriving. The delivery person was very friendly too and very impressive that they found the lodge in the darkness!!!! Thanks for being so accommodating and for such delicious food. Very grateful.

We were staying locally and ate here a couple of times, each visit was excellent. Staff are lovely and the food is delicious. Each visit my husband had the pie of the day (once S&K and then Beef Bourguignon) both exceptional. I had lemon chicken skewer and them ham, egg and chips. The portions are generous. Well kept beer as well.
