Fantastic afternoon tea at Poppylands today. Staff were very attentive, polite and welcoming. Great atmosphere, the attention to detail with the decoration and staff attire was superb. We had a set afternoon tea for 5 people, we had a choice of sandwiches and jams so that everyone had stuff they liked. There was so much food we couldn't eat it all, but they gave us boxes to take home our left overs which was great, nothing will go to waste, the food was delicious. There's also a little gift shop that sells gifts, souvenirs, memorabilia, nostalgic toys and old sweets shop sweets. We will definitely be coming back.

This is a quirky 40s themed cafe and shop that undoubtedly appeals to some visitors, though I felt it was rather tasteless and made light of wartime experience. I called in for lunch with a friend. Even though it was quite busy, we were served reasonably quickly, but the food was rather average. My 'panini' was a toasted soft white baguette served with a few crisps. I wouldn't come here again.

Downstairs was busy and so we went upstairs, the 5/6 tables of customers were completely ignored not a single table had been served, even after chasing. A few tables and us walked out. I don't remember it being quite as "Quirky" in the service aspect last time, but front of house team were very pleasant even though they were clearly rushed off their feet, and if "NO SUBSTITUTIONS" is the chef's way of handling a busy cafe, well, fair enough, it's plastered all over the menu so can't say we weren't warned 😁 brilliant that it's so dog friendly and the dog certainly remembered ordering the dog's dinner and was grateful they still do that 💕

On Friday 21st February we drove 5 hours from Manchester to visit Poppylands and then have a walk down to see the seals. I was so looking forward to visiting after being told about this amazing little place and we planned to have lunch, coffee and cake. We travelled in our camper van as we were booked into a campsite near Bastwick that evening. Upon arriving we realised that we couldn't park in the official council operated car park because we were in a campervan. But we did notice that Poppylands had a sign in their rather large car park that stated you could pay £10 and park there. We drove into Poppylands and we were just getting out of the van when a man stuck his head over the fence to query why we where parked there. We explained that we were going in to have a coffee and speak to the proprietor. I suppose looking back that this should have been a warning sign that visiting customers were not actually welcome in the cafe. We asked the man behind the counter about ordering coffee and the car park. He grunted at us and walked away into the kitchens. A second man came out of the kitchens, approached us at the counter and said "I can't have you in here today You will have to park in Horsey car park" We explained that we couldn't park there because we were in a campervan. We told him we were planning on having coffee and cake in Poppylands before taking a walk to see the seals and we would then return for Lunch. We also told him that we were happy to pay for parking. He explained they had a booking for 15 people and could not accommodate us in their large cafe (2 floors) and large car park. There must have been room for at least 15 people in just the downstairs part of the cafe! He told us he was a village committee member and we could not park in his or the official car park. He then directed us to were we could park. Throughout the exchange he was blunt and rude and we got the impression that he didn't want us in his cafe. Hungry and deflated we left and we will never go back. The staff are rude and their customer service is severely lacking

Visited yesterday with son and grandsons. Despite being very busy, service was prompt and friendly and when the food came, it was lovely. I opted for the over 60's meal deal (cod and chips with mushy peas and a mug of tea) which at £12.50, I think is very good value for money.
