Poppins portswood in Southampton

Nearest parking a distance off in side street and only small car-park. You'll be lucky to get a street bay outside, as always very busy road. Small Poppins compared to others. Clean, nicely laid out. Table service, and waiter arrives quite promptly on sitting down to take orders. Very reasonable prices, typical British and US meals, like the old Wimpy days. Pleasant staff. Food quality very good, fairly decent sized portions for the prices they charge. Can get busy inside.

£4.50 for a takeaway latte... please - take your business elsewhere, at least I didn't get a meal there otherwise I would have to remortgage the house to pay the bill

Ordered a full English breakfast, sausages tasteless and bacon far to salty… then to top it off we had ANTS floating in our drinks… complained to be told the ants come into the machine for the sugar… so not only do they know about it they are still serving Pepsi drinks.. utterly disgusting and will never eat there again.. I wonder if they have ANTS, where else are they..

A very good friend of mine that is homeless went in for a cup of tea. He was refused a free refill, ok fine, but he was then charged £3.50 for hot water to add to his teapot. And was then told by the person working there that he was once homeless but still had to pay for his tea. Surely if you’ve been there you’d understand and have some compassion??

Staff are friendly happy people, food is good , comfy relaxed place

Food was ok, everything looked clean but whatever you do don’t order individual items as we ordered what could have been large breakfast by swapping a few items. 3 eggs, 3 bacon, 3 hash browns, beans and coffee x2 =£39 needless to say won’t be going back and at least 15 local people I know have said they will not go there now because of this. Shame as it’s not a bad place

Fast and efficient service, good cheap food, outside seating,no tramps hanging around, good All round food place with cheap hot drinks and smoking facilities, i recommend it to anyone who needs a quick cuppa,.

A perfectly cooked English breakfast with excellent, friendly service and great prices. I was a bit apprehensive as it's a small-looking café and the photos on the menu don't look amazing, but I was pleasantly surprised and I will definitely be coming here again. Highly recommend!

2 days ago i woke up nice and early , I went there. I had a worse and quick English large breakfast in my life , the cheapest bread, nothing tasty , Hash brown was like a rock , nothing in a plate was tasty at all , in two minutes i paid and left the place they charged me and non of them asked what is wrong or something ! , by visiting this place just ruined my whole day , the worst experience , notice : was not my first time but it will be the last.

I attended this place. To be dished up burnt stale eggs, my black pudding was tortured. So burnt it was just crumbling into my plate. My sausages was rock solid. Had a hard time putting a knife through them. When I expressed my concerns with the staff. They was gormless and ignorant. Not willing to help or resolve the issue so had to stand up and leave. This place has no respect. Has gone completely down hill and lost there respect for customers. Defiantly do not recommend attended this cafe. It will ruin your day out.

I had a lagasna which had no sauce worse lagasna I’ve ever had My husband had fish and chips the fish was from the freezer and over cooked The waiter asked and only gave me a apology never offered my money back We will never go back there

This is a lovley cafe with good service and lovely food. They do extrodinary pancakes with cream or ice cream.and cherries. A fantastic place for liver and onion. All at a reasonable price. They will accomodate for leftovers in a doggy bag or take away options.

The staff are friendly food was OK though the chips massively greasy and overcooked. Was over charged on my card by an amount that couldn't possibly be a simple slip of the finger. Asked to come back to shop to recieve the over payment which cost in petrol etc also ALWAYS CHECK YOUR RECIEPT! Will avoid in future!

do enjoy Poppins , its hard to find a proper cafe these days .. had a lovely breakfast there , If i had one criticism it would be the portions , doesn't feel like you get much for your money if im honest.. Shame the one in Alton used to be a bit more generous

We always try to pop into this cafe whenever we visit Southampton, as it is one of the best. The staff are so lovely and helpful. Absolutely love their cheese omelette and the breakfasts are really tasty. Highly recommend a visit.

Discovered last week. Perfect little café to get a quick bite and coffee. Cooked fresh, good value, great food. Manager and staff very friendly and helpful. I'll certainly be visiting again when I'm working in the area. Visited again and consistently good. Tried the tea today and that was good. Difficult to get good tea out I find.

Greasy, rude and masks under chins! Fish and chips where they insist a dark brown fish is not burnt! Salad limp... Workers rude and dismissive. Not worth a penny and more expensive than a pub lunch. So unimpressed it hurts! Yuck.

A nice place to take family. The servers are nice and the food is a good price. The food is also nice and sizable. The menu has lots of options for any dietary requirements. It is also very clean.

I'm only giving this a 2 stars because the sausages were vile cheap and looked like they had been cooked in a fat fryer not nice!!

I came here there was nothing vegetarian or vegan .. they made me a panni and forgot the cheese i noticed half way by then too late and the refuse to fix it. Chips are fried in a larger fryer with sausage bacon and everything.. so if veggie or vegan cant eat the chips or anything.... I thought it was againsts the law to mix mwat veggies fryers utensils..

We had a lovely meal in Poppins today, this is somewhere we always go back to as the food is always great! The staff are also always very friendly and make you feel comfortable as well as making sure the restaurant is always safe, clean and sanitised which during this time I’m sure we can all appreciate. Overall I highly recommend the visit.

I've been coming here for over 6 years now and they never seem to disappoint, even through this strange time with covid they've always kept the restaurant clean. I like seeing the regulars returning it makes it feel like a community and friendly place to visit, I definitely think it's worth a visit.

Very Good service and great food

We have been going to this cafe for about 3 years now and although the food is not amazing as a cafe goes its always been OK. But our last visit was dreadful. This place is not Covid-19 aware. The customers were not expected to wear masks when wondering round the shop and the two waitresses wore them every now and then, one of the Waitresses wore hers mainly wore hers on her arm!! i noticed that the tables were being cleaned with washing up liquid and not antibac spray. Our table had food debris on it so was not cleaned properly at all. The manager/owner had a mask which he wore on his chin and then decided to eat chips for his lunch and used his hands ten proceeded to go behind the cookline without washing his hands!!! This is my opinion under normal circumstances is not acceptable so in these trying times it is even more important that hygiene standards should be extremely important. It is a shame as its quite a nice place and the staff are usually quite friendly. I feel strongly about this as this cafe has a lot of elderly customers and the things we witnessed could seriously endanger peoples health.

Other half and I went in for some amazing food . I had the inclusive breakfast and missus had omelette and jacket potato. Very nice .also ordered coffee .which was great so we ordered two more .can't recommend enough, was great!!

My partner and I went this morning to have breakfast, and we were very happy with the food and with the service, that was very friendly! We ordered full english breakfast and pancakes for dessert, and the quality was quite good.

Ordered a cheese Omelette. Ware was the cheese???? .it wasnt fluffy like it should be...more like eating a cake.. The waitress well I think she was rude because as soon as we sat down. She Assumed we where eating and put the cutlery on the table. And didn't get the order

Still one of my favourite budget cafes in the area. Now featuring a new counter assistant who has a smile that can banish a rain storm, and large square wooden plates on which larger meals are served. These are classy, and the presentation matches. Food is still great value, as at all Poppins franchises (same brand, but the owners source their own ingredients). Word is they are scheduled for redecorating shortly, which I guess will mean a short period of closure. But we await developments!

Use this Poppins regularly and its always good. No exotic food, just good old bacon egg, and chips! Well, you have to have some comfort food sometimes! Yes, they also do a great range of salads that are enormous! Love the prawn salad!

Located in the heart of Portswood, generous portion for what we pay, good taste, plenty of choice but unfortunately not many choices for vegan and seafood dishes..

Nice place but need to update the card payment system for minimum payments as charging 50p for every transaction under £5 just doesn't cut it in this day and age. Friendly staff, greeted with a smile.

Usually come around for "breakfast" around noon (LOL) and it's still available :P Plenty of food on your plate for your money, not once have I had any issues with my order (altough their toast sometimes is super heavy due to the amount of oil on it), but you can always just get butter toast or normal toast and it's sorted. Went before, going frequently and shall continue doing so :)

Drinks are really good here, especially the hot chocolate! Food is slightly overpriced and average.

The Portswood Poppins is my local iteration of this café (a chain across the south of England I think) and I pop in here on occasion on my days off for breakfast or brunch which is always freshly made and reasonably priced. What sets this place apart is its friendly staff and in particular its manager, who greeted customers by name, knew their regular orders, and made patrons feel very welcome. I was very impressed by his friendliness and attention to detail and this gave the café a very "family" atmosphere. In an era of soulless coffee shops this place is a hidden gem, would definitely recommend.
