Poppies in Bromley

Disappointing Turkey Sandwich does not really describe it. Christmas Specials board stated Turkey and Stuffing sandwich £8.50, thought for that money it would be carved Turkey. When it arrived I was totally shocked to find one slice of processed Turkey, of very poor quality. For this price it should be decent quality, they have a total cheek advertising that as Turkey. Do not get fooled by the Christmas special as there is nothing special about it. They should be ashamed charging £8.50 for processed meat you can buy all year round, needless to say I won’t be returning.

We waited a good 35 minutes plus for a couple of sandwiches hardly anyone in the restaurant and was told they had a back log of orders A couple next to us had ordered a sausage sandwich and was given bacon! Just so unorganised and slow when the sandwiches finally arrived they were slow and not presented nicely at all

Rude and aggressive staff member: Shopping visit for Christmas stuff really soured by a member of staff (middle aged lady, short grey hair), who shouted at my son 'to keep his mask on' when he briefly unhooked one side to make a phone call. She continued to rant at us in an aggressive manner and then went and pointed us out to a large male member of staff (presumably 'the muscle') with the clear implication that we were trouble makers. Speaking as a medical professional who has been dealing with infection control in a clinical setting for the last 9 months I applaud Thompson's rigorous implementation of Covid measures but as we were more than 5 meters from anyone else in an almost deserted section of the shop and it was clear what my son was doing her approach and 'prison guard' tone were quite unnecessary, (especially as I was about to spend £150 in her shop!). Dealing with people in that way does not help the situation! I am more than happy to take my future business elsewhere. (just read through other reviews and several mention 'a rude older lady staff member'...so I think this is probably the same person?)

I visited the coffee shop this Sunday and was pleasantly surprised. I had a tea and a tea cake served in beautiful little tea pots. The service was very fast and with a smile for a young lad. It was my first visit and I’m looking forward to taking my mum there soon.

Quite often visit for a snack and a drink ,food is freshly prepared and always good .the only problem is access is through the excellent garden centre so we always finish up buying something on the way through ,excellent place,try it

Hadn't been here for several months...and was pleasantly surprised .. Cafe very busy..food much better than I remember..very well filled cheese and ham toasted sandwich..good quality crisps and fresh salad on the side. Didn't try the cakes but the flapjacks looked nice and chunky

This in in Thompson Garden Centre. Seems ok and could be a 4 but it’s rather cold and bleak. Coffee and cake are good and it serves snack type meals

My fiancée has studied here for near on 2 years at this family run garden centre coffee shop. Unfortunately today I witnessed a very rude manager to customers, and to my dismay, my fiancée who is a very kind and thoughtful person. She only asked for butter on her Christmas Special roll. There was nothing special about the processed sliced turkey roll (being warmed by the warm stuffing (advertised as hot turkey) shoved in a McDonald’s bap. It’s such a shame as I have lived in Sidcup and close by for all my life, and this family run place must suffer from such a grumpy person selling NOT up to scratch food. I can only assume this place is profit driven. I’m not saying we will not come back for coffee (as we love the garden centre) but no one should be treated as my fiancée was. She had to stop me going to give this lady a piece of my mind but I get it as stress is a nasty thing. Please try to be more friendly, especially to nice people like my fiancée. Remember we love the garden centre!

So after passing this place a million times I popped in for a coffee and a sandwich. Very friendly service and an amazing cheese and onion toasted sandwich. Great price too. Wish I lived nearer

Very nice cafe and lovely staff but the manager (Norma?) sets such a nasty atmosphere that I would never want to go back here. The whole time I was there I could hear her being VERY rude (almost abusive) and unfair to the staff, she was also unnecessarily rude to other customers around me (thankfully I did not have any contact with her) I’m not sure how she still works there. Somehow the lovely person who served me (I didn’t catch their name) still managed to be friendly and smile at me despite the horrible dealings they must go through with the manager on a daily basis. No staff OR customers should be treated the way I witnessed them be treated. It’s very clear whatever life issues the manger has, she brings them into work with her and takes it out on her staff and the customers, NO ONE should do this.

My wife and I often break bread at Poppies when we are shopping at Thompson's Garden Centre. Food is always freshly prepared and tasty. Wi fi is fast, and service is pleasant and friendly.

Poppies is the cafe in Thompson's garden centre in Perry Street. You always get a lovely warm welcome and the home made food is always excellent and great value. Thanks to Norma and all her staff.

Stopped here with Mother who is an avid gardener. Straight to toilet then cafe. Ordered a salad with cheese & ham & a chilli con carne jacket. Served pretty quickly & tasted fresh. Mother enjoyed her Jacket. My salad was good, ham & cheese standard packet stuff but adequate nevertheless. Tempted by the wide range of cakes available but managed to stay on diet & avoid, they did look good though.

I went to Poppies for lunch with my mother and toddler a few days ago. It was the second time I've been there and the second time that service was incredibly slow despite the fact they had very few customers. This wouldn't have bothered me so much if the staff hadn't neglected to bring half our order and then been quite rude about it when we asked where it had got to. Needless to say, we won't be going there again!

A nice small cafe within a good garden centre. It is fine for lighter meals and snacks, I have had a good basic breakfast here but mostly call in for a bacon sandwich and a coffee. The prices are reasonable. Overall it is nothing special but a good average cafe. I have been told that they have WIFI here but I have not tried it myself.

We took 41 visually impaired Club members including helpers here for a pre-booked Afternoon Cream Tea. The staff welcomed the group and provided a selection of freshly made sandwiches with mixed salad and crisps, plus a couple of 'home made' scones, jam and cream, plus tea and miniature cakes (provided due to the size of our group: otherwise home made cakes would have been provided). The scones were light by comparison with other venues. Our members were well treated and efficienty served by the staff. Many thanks for a pleasant and enjoyable afternoon.

Lovely Decor and coffee good when it arrived, we were told 20minutes for 3 warm rolls & Jacket Potato which turned into about 40minutes. Rolls were lukewarm with cold chicken in and most of it was left apart from crisps. The Jacket Potato was worse and very cold in the middle. To give the staff their due it was very busy in there as right next to the Christmas Decorations and also Sunday lunchtime. More Staff obviously needed to keep up with numbers of customers. Food was returned after waiting for ages and a full refund offered. Will give this a miss in future unless its just for a coffee break.

Hot drinks lovely but food not that great... Baked potato tasted as if it had been. reheated from the day before and the tuna filling a little dry. Friendly service though

Delicious coffees and cream tea served by the lovely Norma. Can't recommend this place enough! So much better than most garden centre cafes.

Popped in for a light bite whilst shopping, excellent coffee and great friendly service! Will definitely be back soon.

Again a great impromptu stop off. Food except, service perfect. Wifi seriously fast 70-80mbs! And usb plug/sockets. Chill, drink eat and surf Thank you again

Visited for breakfast, friendly staff and good food. Not expensive good value for money. Have eaten lunch here as well which is also very nice. Will return again.

In passing this garden centre we noticed it had a coffee shop (shock, horror, who hasn't got one).

An unplanned visit to the Thompson Garden Centre led to a snap decision to have a late lunch in this new addition to their facilities. It's not huge. It's doesn't try to be anything that it isn't - just somewhere for morning coffee of a light lunch. We were fairly late-comers for lunch, but the butternut squash soup was flavoursome and homemade. Bread tasted as though it had come from a local baker and there was a good selection of rolls and sandwiches from which we could have ordered.
