We had a great night here. The food was really good. The decor was very authentic. The only downside was that each course came out a little too quickly. I would definitely recommend it.

We had been to Gosforth Palace on previous visits to Newcastle . We had always been pleased, but our recent visit 'blew us away'. We were greeted with a smile and throughout the evening the waiting staff were friendly, courteous and very helpful. All the dishes we chose were delicious and beautifully presented. There was absolutely nothing we could fault.

Worst Chinese takeaway I have ever had. Rice so overcooked it was congealed mush, couldn't even tell there were grains in there and main dish was tasteless. So disappointing when it is quite expensive.

In last night,staff are lovely, polite and professional. The place is spotless ,the duck comes out pre shredded ,never seen that before and was on the dry side£30 for half. The shechwan prawn had no shechwan pepper in them only red chilli..why?? Got sent back ,No problem.£97 for 2, wine and beers included .

I came here this evening with my husband. I had the dim sum which was very tasty, particularly the chicken, followed by duck and pancakes, which was so nicely presented on a duck shaped dish. I was recommended the Jasmine tea from a lovely waiter to finish. The staff are incredibly friendly and polite making them stand out from many places that I have visited. We will definitely be returning .

I have visited this place several times in the past, and again, I had a positive experience. The service is always great. The team is attentive, respectful, and caring. The quality of food has remained high, and I really enjoyed my time here. The portions are generous, so make sure you are hungry when you get here. I would recommend this place for either a special occasion, or a relaxing night out.

We went here for a 25th birthday party and it was absolutely perfect. They gave us the centre table next to the beautiful fish tank (which was the amusing topic of quite a bit of conversation) and our area felt very private due to being surrounded by veils that separated us from the rest of the restaurant. These veils are used to make each table into its own “booth” and really help each table feel to private and cosy, which is a wonderful touch. The waiters were very attentive and helpful, which was good because there was a lot to organise for our party of 12. The food was very good quality and presented so elegantly that at the end of the evening I expected the price to be much more expensive than it turned out to be. The prices were in fact very reasonable. Highly recommended . We will be dining here again. 👍👍

Visited to celebrate my Birthday with my partner . You can’t improve on perfection . We chose the banquet menu , you need not to eat for 2 days before having that . The service and food were beyond excellent.

Absolutely fantastic food, atmosphere and service. Quality of food was excellent, freshly cooked and good sized portions. Menu is extensive with plenty of authentic dishes. There was a good selection of seafood and vegetarian options as well as the usual meat choices. The dim sum was particularly nice. Prices were very reasonable. Servers were really friendly and welcoming, and service was quick (but not rushed). The atmosphere was lovely. We will definitely be returning.

We were a dozen friends gathering for Easter & we had the banquet menu. This place is clearly managed behind the scenes by someone who knows what they're doing & the result is a very relaxed yet efficient atmosphere.. they do takeaway & delivery but unlike some lesser establishments this doesn't interrupt the great service in the restaurant. A good bonus is there's no awful 'muzak' to drown conversations so we (mature with some hearing defects 😆 ) were able to enjoy a good uninterrupted catch up while we dived into some very tasty food. The service is excellent, unobtrusively timely. The crispy beef was off the scale.

A luxury dining experience with excellent service. The gentleman who served us was polite, pleasant, and game for a laugh - but in no way imposed himself on proceedings. A masterclass in excellent customer service. The restaurant is spacious with big tables separated by muslin screens, giving an air of privacy and exclusivity. We had the set menu and were blown away by the value. Prawn toast and ribs to start. Prawn toast was a highlight with plenty of big, fat prawns stuffed in there. For mains we shared chicken satay and Szechuan beef. The satay way nutty, sweet, and just a tad spicy (that's a good thing). The Szechuan dish was an absolute delight. It was sweet, sticky, but peppery and spicy and the meat melted on the tongue. Sweet mandarins as an aperitif were a novel and welcome touch. With two glasses of wine it came to just shy of fifty quid which, considering the quality of the space and the food, not to mention the outstanding service, in a posh part of town was more than fair. We're looking forward to bringing some friends for our next visit - thank you!

I wanted to highlight how friendly all the staff were with him. They had even set a place for him at the table. It was nice to for us to see him being included and welcomed. I tried it for the first time and I liked it very much.

Probably the worst Chinese I’ve ever had. £36 for 2 mains and chips. I asked for salt and pepper chips was told they were big portion size probably not even enough to feed a hamster. No taste to them whatsoever, the portion sizes were absolutely disgusting and for what you pay is criminal will never ever go back here. The food was pretentious and bland as well as fatty meat. There’s not one positive about this meal.

I have been going here for some time now and both myself and my husband have noticed that the prices are rising but the standard is not quite the same. The prawn crackers are overdone and small. They are really brittle and not very tasty. We are looking for somewhere new to go for Chinese. I hope it improves as it used to be my favourite Chinese restaurant.

A long standing restaurant that never fails to impress. I can't recommend any dishes in particular because everything is outstanding. An authentic, relaxing and welcoming experience every single time.

We turned up on NYE at 18.40 for a family of 4. We hadn't booked and thought we would be unlucky as the restaurant was heaving. They managed to get us a table. Because it was NYE it was a set menu at £32 a person. We had 2 kids with us who aren't big eaters. When I asked the waiter if there was a kids menu he just advised me to order 2 or 3 of the set menus and it would be more than enough food for us to share. He wasn't wrong. We ordered 2 set menus and were all stuffed. We had chicken and sweet corn soup, hot and sour soup, prawn crackers, hoisin duck and pancakes, salt and pepper pork, cheese, chilli and chicken spring rolls, lemon chicken with egg fried rice, garlic chilli prawns (unbelievably delicious) and boiled rice. Sooooo much food and all gorgeous. Would like to come on a normal night to see what it's like but after this dining experience I would 10000% recommend 😋

We've been coming here as a family for years. Continues to have a great atmosphere. Nice Western style Chinese food and great, very friendly service. Recommend to anyone in Newcastle and look forward to returning soon.

Its been a while since I was last here and they have had a lovely makeover inside. The food was as delicious as ever - vegetable rainbow soup was just what was needed on a cold night and my mixed vegetables in black bean and green pepper sauce was just delicious. Very friendly staff and I look forward to a return visit.

The food was very tasty but very extortionately priced compared to other takeaways and also much less food than other takeaways. Collected the food and it wasn’t piping hot either. I think for charging £11-£15 per meal the food should be red hot and a good amount.

We were passing by Newcastle and decided to stop for dinner. It was a fabulous meal with fantastic service, particularly the char siu bao which aren’t on the menu & if we’re in the area again we would definitely return.

We arrived late in the evening. Around 10-15 pm. The greeting for the staff and service was excellent. The food was a pleasure to eat. No rushing us, even though it was past closing times. I would highly recommend Gosforth Palace for an evening meal and a great experience.

WE had a great experience here. Arrive at 5:30 (opening time) on a Tuesday night because we had the kids. The place already had a few people in it, and it got quite busy. They gave us free prawn crackers for the table, and We ordered a few starters and mains to share between us all, the food was excellent. The staff were all really friendly, and great with the kids. Parking nearby is reasonable and only charged till 6pm. All and all I'm one satisfied customer and I will be back and recommend to others. Thank you for a great meal and time gosforth palace.

Good food, large restaurant, nice atmosphere. Staff were very attentive. Big selection on the menu with the option of banquets if multiple people dining. High chairs available for kids but no baby change that I could see. The restaurant is upstairs and there is a stair lift but wouldn't be suitable for buggys.

Overall great experience visiting this restaurant for a special family occasion. Delicious food, very friendly and kind staff, great value when getting the early bird special. Want to give a special shout-out to the gentleman server/host who was so welcoming and hospitable. He definitely took the experience from a 4/5 and made it a 5/5. An excellent point is this restaurant has a stair lift for those who may not be able to walk up the stairs (restaurant is upstairs). I would recommend this restaurant and I will be returning.

An exceptional restaurant with welcoming staff and really top class food. Amazing tropical fish tank at the entrance. Has a stair lift. Screening between tables is so tasteful and jn character and adds to the ambiance. Try the lemon chicken.

If you are reading this trying to decide whether to order your chinese from here I’m begging you to find somewhere else. Our order had 3 different types of fried rice (egg, chicken, and king prawn) and they must be operating on the worlds loosest definition of the word ‘fried’ - the rice is just plain boiled white rice, hardly any egg, and the chicken was plain white as if it had never even seen a pan in its life, because it was essentially plain and boiled with not an ounce of flavour or browning. no veg at all, no colour to the rice or meat. I had to add my own soy sauce etc to the rice to make it taste of something. the king prawn rice cost £11 and it can’t be described as anything but daylight robbery - that’s plain rice I could have made myself with prawns from m&s for less than £5. we called up to complain, they said they’ve never had a complaint in 20 years and implied we just didn’t understand how they cooked it. told us they don’t even use soy sauce when they make the fried rice unlike most places - not sure why they said that like it was a quirk. tried to offer us store credit but we told them we wouldn’t be ordering again and preferred a refund - they were asking us to bring it back so they could see it and asking if we’d been before for whatever reason (no). they then said the manager was on holiday and refused to offer any money back or be helpful at all, definitely BS, have since seen other reviews saying they never heard back from the manager either. please pray that I can call again and get some money back - don’t make the same mistake guys go to wai ho across the road instead 😐 shouldn’t have deviated from my usual i was scammed

Have been visiting this wonderful restaurant for many years. I'm so annoyed to see the negative reviews posted about takeaways and dine in grievances. Myself and my family have been regularly visiting the Gosforth Palace as far back as Mr & Mrs Poon's residence. The service I have received both with takeaways and my dine in visits has been nothing short of exceptional. The staff make the experience so much better with their friendly considerate attentiveness. The food is exceptional and perfectly served with graceful politeness. I visited the restaurant with a friend who had come from Houston, Texas on 23rd April 2023 He was blown away by the whole experience. My sincerest thanks to the entire team for a delightful evening. I can't wait to visit the Gosforth Palace again very soon.

So disappointed in the takeaway meal I had last week that I complained direct to the restaurant. I said that I would wait to hear a response before posting a review, and asked for a partial refund of my £36 payment. 3 days have elapsed since my complaint and still no response from the restaurant managers. So, here, as promised, is my objective review. The meal included 2 mains and 2 rice dishes. My assessment of each is as follows:- Siu Mai x 1 (4 dim sum) – these were unnecessarily greasy, over salted and lacking in depth or subtlety of flavour (£5) Egg Fried Rice x 2 – this was not actually fried rice at all, but boiled rice with egg added (orger reviewers have made the same complaint) and was as a result very disappointing & misdescribed on the menu - it was rather glutinous & sticky (with rice not separating but stuck together) and lacking in flavour (£7.00) Lemon Chicken: the chicken was fine if a little dry, but the lemon sauce accompanying & flavouring this meal was very below par – it lacked any depth of lemon flavour, indeed was not very lemony at all, had an off-putting after-taste, was over runny, & was not nearly as good as similar sauces sampled at other Chinese restaurants over the years – the sauce was actually omitted from the take away bag, and the staff member had to return to the kitchen to get it, which was not very efficient though unlikely to have affected its flavour (£11) Asparagus with Cashew Nuts Dish – with King Prawns; overall this meal was ok but was very bland, the king prawns were large and well cooked, however, the mushrooms in this dish were very over-cooked and very chewy as a result – the dish was lacking in seasoning and flavouring (£13) Complimentary prawn crackers – these were very good (the only thing on the menu we sampled that was) Having paid ca. £36.00 for this meal (far from cheap for a takeaway) and very much looked forward to it as a special treat after cooking & eating at home all week, both I and my partner were very disappointed with the quality of cooking and flavouring delivered in this meal. We strongly feel that at the very least a partial refund on my credit card payment should have been offered, though judging from other comments on this site, this restaurant offers little more than very minimal and rather insulting refunds no matter what the grounds for complaint. We ended up throwing half of the meal away as we were enjoying it so little. My own disappointment was confounded by the fact that having made choices initially on the menu and been presented with the bill, it emerged only after I queried the total that prices had been changed but not updated on the takeaway menu. This was unprofessional and the restaurant ought to have honoured the prices as listed in the menu. Indeed, it is a contravention of trading standards and the Consumer Rights Act 2015 (CRA ) to deliver food of poor quality and not to honour the printed prices on a menu. This is the first time I or my partner have visited the restaurant since before lockdown, when I was a more regular though only occasional customer over the years, and I never had previous cause to complain. The cooking needs substantial improvement judging by this experience and by other negative reviews on this site, I am very unlikely to return for a meal in the future unless the restauarant starts paying attnetion to reviews like mine and a better chef is hired. The restaurant is very over-priced for takeaways and somewhat lost in the past in terms of its decor and overall poor attitude to customer service

Used the restaurant to sit in - perfect For £88 we bought four cartons of rice- Which was sold as egg fried rice - got boiled rice with a microscope egg - didn't know egg was there until I reread the menu. The 4 main courses were a quarter full each at most. So out of the 4 cartons of rice we used one only - I might as well ordered 4 cartons of rice The spare ribs should be called fat ribs The duck was good to be fair - no scrimping Plus we ordered for 9:15 - said we'd be there and we were there on the fit - 9:45 we finally got the food - That was after chasing #disappointing
