The food was really nice, but the thing that makes this place special are the fantastic staff. We came on a sunny Saturday, the pub was extremely busy. Had a good stay. Friendly, helpful staff, good food, excellant fish and chips, and fast service, even at busy times. Cooked breakfast very enjoyable and not greasy. Only negative comment, and beyond the control of the Inn, was the waste/recycling collection at 5am in the morning. My husband left his phone at the local pizza barn, the chef tracked us down to the Pooley Inn, and it was returned it to us. So big thank you to everyone for this, it was very much appreciated.

Really impressed with attention given to allergies And intolerance. Been twice this week for food. First day asked about chicken burger and whether it contained dairy. Server said straight away that it had buttermilk so not suitable. Chose Normal burger minus cheese which was really good. Went again today and noticed that steak pie had DFA dairy free alternative. Asked server what the alternative was server did not know but immediately checked with kitchen and the alternative was chips rather than mash with butter which was delicious. Thank you for making the choice of food that was suitable for me not an issue and for your servers being aware of how important intolerance to certain items are very important.

Visited on a Thursday night so wasn’t overly busy and easily manageable for the numerous table staff. We had pre booked and were quickly shown to our table and advised that another member of staff would be over to take our order. Little did I know they had sprinkled us with invisible dust as after selecting what we wanted we then had to wait around 20 minutes for our order to be taken. By that time my mouth was as dry as the Sahara desert. Another waiter was serving the tables literally next to us and didn’t seem to notice us either, maybe because the priority seemed to be engaging in ‘banter’ with a larger table. When our invisible spray had finally worn off we finally had our order taken. The food came relatively quickly and was decent quality. Not one person asked how our food was. After our meal we agreed to have some more drinks and a dessert each. Much to our annoyance, it appeared we had once again been victims of the invisible spray. After chatting with the family over a load of dirty plates that weren’t cleared from our table and watching the waiter perform his comedy act with the next table we gave up on our desserts. Rather than request the bill and wait (again), I just went and paid at the bar myself. If I hadn’t have gone up myself, I think I’d probably still be sitting there now a week later waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting. I reckon they would have had to throw our dirty plates away as they had been left that long the stains we’re probably impossible to remove. Overall the food was good but the service was dire, that seems to be a bit of a theme looking at other reviews. The pub is in the best location which is why it’s so popular but there’s others in the area where they look after the customer better.

I checked in here for 3 nights and would have to reserve a table if dining by Carl. After unpacking I returned to the bar and asked to reserve a table (different barman) he said i he said as a resident I did not need to but could I use a small one as I was by myself which I did, I had 2 drinks and returned to the bar for another and to order food, I was approached by Carl who said i would have to move to another table as I had not reserved that one and someone else wanted to sit there. I went to the Crown hotel across the road to wine and dine for my 3 day stay in Pooley bridge spending over £200. Hospitality takes a special type of person to be in that profession. CARL is NOT one of them. He is very impolite, ignorant and rude. As the saying says One rotten apple.

We ate there, food was pretty awful; the burger was bog standard, the macaroni cheese tasted like it came from a packet and the kids food was dry and tasteless. The deserts were a bit better but the cheesecake was a standard American cheesecake with mashed mango spooned on top (not a mango and passion fruit cheesecake!) and crumble topping sprinkled over it...and the crumble was undercooked with packet custard. £138, totally not worth it and a huge disappointment after a fantastic meal there last year. Won't be going back.

Several days after leaving the inn, I realised I had misplaced my engagement ring. Good food but that’s about it. Staff took order and then went discussing New Years Eve tables with other staff for around 5 minutes , then remembered she had my order in her hand. Painful to watch your order held in someone’s hand just because they want to join in a staff discussion. In my opinion customers come first Pump label on pumps on the bar for beer they don’t sell anymore. Got to say the food was good again, but soup was supposed to come with a warm Ciabatta, but got a slice a farmhouse loaf No salt and pepper condiments on the table - what’s that about- just a wooden box that holds sachets of sauces and salt and pepper , pretty poor IMO

Putting this on here for any ceoliacs to make sure they ask that the things marked Gluten Free on the menu are gluten free 🙄 I ordered the chicken kebab, which was labelled GFA (gluten free available). I checked that the chips were made in a different fryer, told the waitress it was ceoliac / allergy, so all good. No one asked if we wanted to order dessert, so I tried to wave someone over. The first person is saw gave me direct eye contact so I waved at him and then he walked in the opposite direction. So I asked an older waiter who brushed me off twice during our visit. We finally got our original waitress. I ordered the ice cream Sunday that was marked GF (gluten free) and it came out with an obviously not-gf biscuit wafer in it. I told the waiter to see if it was gf, so he took it back to the kitchen and just took the wafer out and handed back to me. I could see the line where the wafer had sat. I tried to call over the manager but the original waitress came over took the large sunday and came back with a much smaller one which was missing half of the original ingredients that she told me (and it was obvious) that she just quickly plopped together. She told me I should have told her I needed gluten-free (which I had told her I had ceoliac when I ordered my main).. basically blaming me for something labelled gluten-free not coming out as gluten-free.. to which I said the menu says its gluten free so it should come out gluten-free without needing to request it. I later asked for the manager, and they sent me to this woman who said she had already talked to the kitchen, that the kitchen was wrong (as was what the waitress said to me). I emphasised it wasn't just the kitchen she needed to talk to but also the waitress who blamed me for them not giving me something gluten free (when it was labelled gf) and the daft kid who though it was safe and OK to just pull the wafer out , which leaves the Sunday contaminated with an allergen. She applologised. Didn't offer a refund for the Sunday, although I did say i wasn't asking for one but was saying this as more of a wtf for any future ceoliacs that visit because... wtf was that. Three stars instead of one because the food tasted good and the woman apologised for the fiasco of service. But still.. wtf.

Didn’t stay in a room. Was told on numerous times it was table service but there was no one to serve these tables we tried to order 3 times. One with the person who gave us menu, one at bar and one with the person bringing the food out non took our order. After 20 mins of trying to order the bar girl finally took our order and we paid up front. I think she finally realise how embarrassing it all was. She did however keep a page up showing a tip on card machine again I was awkward and tipped 10% 🙈oh my I really don’t know why, I just felt so awkward with her watching. It wasn’t even busy and we waited for a very long time for food. 4 people think managers as not in uniform but in shirts came through restaurant via the back door and went behind bar and into the back laughing amongst themselves no acknowledgement anything other than them. Food then came out 30 mins later cold and dry like it been sitting on the side and forgotten. I ordered pie and fish and chips. The fish was the only thing hot and everything was warm at best. I couldn’t be bothered to mention it. May had done if someone came to table to ask. Wanted another drink but just left it’s It was very quiet, the atmosphere was disjointed and awkward and didn’t help no music was playing. We just left in the end with no goodbye won’t be back will go over the road for rest of week.

We couldn't decide on what to eat, but Lewis pointed us in the direction of the steak and ale pie, with chips (not mash). It was delicious, so we asked for the dessert menu. We then couldn't decide whether to have the seasonal crumble or the sticky toffee pudding, so we asked our trusted Lewis what he recommended. We both opted for the sticky toffee pudding, one with ice cream, one with custard. We both licked the plate clean and barely managed to waddle to the bus stop. Would highly recommend!

Some carrots would of been good(more veg) I'm sorry to roast you but someone needs a decent roast this Sunday.. We left dissapointed and still hungry, we won't be returning.

Excellent choice for food. Good selection of drinks. Mind - you must book! We were seated near the door and there was a constant flow of people being turned away. It was packed. (Late September, not exactly peak season) Burgers - delicious, we sampled the hunters chicken burger for a change, very tasty and proper thick chips. Sea Bass - excellent. This was actually a special on the menu. It was cooked in a parcel with an array of vegetables, capers, artichokes etc. and steamed. A bit more expensive, but very delicious. I would say though, if you are starving, this might not be for you. How about trying the pie, made on the premises. Or, the fish and chips that came out looked amazing. (More like a whale) Not hungry? Sit in the substantial beer garden and watch the world go by.

Enjoyed a delicious lunch here while on holiday. Beautiful pub on the inside and outside, really cosy. Everyone who served us was really nice and welcoming. Will definitely pop in again next time we are in the lakes.

We decided to choose this place because of the large selection of gluten-free options. However, the nachos and/or fish & chips we ordered were not 100% gluten free. My uncle became ill after visiting this place and agonised over the consequences all day.

I'm staying here over night and the customer service is great, the rooms and bar are nice too. The only negative thing is that it's a little out of the way from the town centre but otherwise it's lovely

Great full pint of Ribblehead ale, perfect temperature. We called in on the off chance on a walk and we were so pleased to find that there was Sunday lunch available. A big plateful of freshly cooked roast beef, homemade Yorkshire pudding, mashed and roast potatoes, roast parsnips and mashed sweet potato, with delicious gravy. The plate was so full the other veg had to come in a separate bowl. We were too full for pudding. The pub is full of character but unpretentious and the landlord and landlady were friendly and chatty. Highly recommended
