We called early lunch so it was still a little quiet. Fire ticking over and a welcoming smile from the Landlord. Great pub for food. An out of the way place but a cracking find.

Extremely friendly people who run the New Inn. We walked to the pub from where we were staying and we were welcomed warmly. Nothing was too much trouble, Evan getting walk locations. The roast was superb 👌 highly recommend. Also dog friendly and they have their own friendly little dog. Small and very quaint 10/10

Just a few short miles out of Appleby in Westmoreland en route to Tebay lies the settlement of Hoff and the Hoff Inn . Don't drive/walk on by , call in and meet the friendly owners for a memorable refreshment stop . Well worth it, great food and drink in a wonderful 16th century Inn on the Drovers route. Marvellous.

I found the pub in Hoff to be quiet 🤫 warm and comfortable. The proprietors very pleasant and the atmosphere good, enables you and your group to be able to chat. Without loud music or slot machines in the back ground. The pub is recommended for its menu and quality of food. There's a car park and outside seating.

OK, this pub is small but has the biggest and best service. Furthermore the food. Its fantastic, the menu is changed daily, the cook is well made, extremely tasty and well presented,. Definitely worth a visit. Prices are fair too. Oh and for those attached to their phones, the signal is poor so you may find you have to talk to each other instead of texting 😀😀😂

Super friendly local pub, with a warming fire for walkers and locals to huddle round. Good pub grub and puddings that'll make you regret skipping the gym, and regularly changing local ales. Very dog friendly and well placed for nearby Appleby, Rutter Falls and some great Eden Valley walks. Oh yeah, and it's my local too! 😊

I would not recommend the food. Ploughman’s was expensive, tiny and poor quality, served with supermarket bread and butter that had mould in the foil wrapping. Cider was nice and the pubs dog was friendly 🥴

Popped in here for a much needed drink on our walk from Rutter force to Colby. Aaron and Caroline were really friendly and gave us a really warm welcome along with some of the locals that had popped in for a drink. Beer was top notch and although we didn't eat, the food that was coming out looked the same. They take pride in the appearance of their establishment so it was no hardship when asked if we wouldn't mind taking our muddy boots off when going from the hardfloored bar area to the carpeted area leading to the toilets. 100% be back next time we head up this way. Thanks v much for the hospitality.

Bit of a strange one this….. Looking at the other reviews I’m guessing we maybe just caught then woman who was ‘front of house’ on a bad day?!?! We had a lovely walk (Rutter Force) with some friends who were visiting us and thought what better way to finish with a pint and a packet of crisps….. On arrival we were told we had to take off our shoes/boots so walking boots are far from welcome. There were 6 of us and a well behaved dog. We noticed that the bar area only had a table for 4 although there was another room which (after ordering drinks) we were told we couldn’t sit in with a dog. So we were told to use the table for 4 which didn’t really work…. Then we got told off for crowding the people that were eating… We drank up and left with a bit of a bad taste in our mouths. A real shame as we ended a really nice day on a low…. We won’t bother going there again….

We were driving past this lovely little pub las weekend before it even had opened! Decided it was in to good a location to pass by, so waited for 10 minutes. So glad we did, even though we were the only two people for a short while, the Landlord made us really welcome and we had a great natter about local history and the area in general. We came away with loads more knowledge and had enjoyed two lovely real ales. We will most definitely be back again when we are driving through. There are some lovely walks round about, worth a visit.

One of our party inadvertently left the gate open upon entering the grounds of the pub. None of us saw the small sign on the gate asking for the gate to be closed. On entering the pub, what transpired to be the owner's puppy shot out of the door and bolted through the gate. The landlady literally pushed one of our party out of the way and berated us for leaving the gate open. The puppy was brought back into the pub, unharmed. The atmosphere was frosty, but we (foolishly in hindsight) decided to order a drink from the bar. The landlord was pleasant, and all seemed OK, although his wife was obviously upset and was stomping around the pub with a face like thunder. We sat down to have our drink, and were immediately told in a rather instructional manner to use the coasters on the table. Obviously the main topic of our conversation during our short stay was the rather brusque manner with which we had been dealt with so far, and how we as customers had been made to feel we were to blame for their puppy running out of the pub. Realistically, how are first time visitors supposed to know that there is a dog waiting to run out into the road? The landlord came over at one point and asked us what we had planned for the weekend. It was quite a pleasant exchange to be fair. We finished our drinks, taking our glasses to the bar as a parting good will gesture. One of our party needed to visit the bathroom before leaving, the rest of us exited and made our way across the road to the car park. As our friend made his way from the toilet to the exit of the pub he could hear the landlord telling other customers how ignorant we were, so he made his presence known and told the landlord to shut up. The first time I become aware of this development is when I saw our friend walking out from the pub followed by the landlord and landlady who were shouting abuse at him. The situation escalated when the landlord threatened physical violence towards our friend, and the landlady attempted to throw a punch at my wife. We were told we were 'up ourselves' and we were told not to visit their pub again. One of our party had the presence of mind to record the fracas outside the pub on their phone. We didn't want this experience to spoil our weekend, so have not taken this serious matter any further as yet.

I arrived fairly late (19:30) and still managed to get a space. Went in to pay (the prices are very fair) and the guys in the shop were helpful and friendly. The showers are fantastic and spotlessly clean and when I commented on them, the staff in the shop said "it's how they all should be". The ladies in the restaurant were also brilliant and the food was great too. If all truckstops were of this quality, I think I'd seriously consider tramping full time again, over doing a night out once in a blue moon!
