Booked 2 lodges 4/8th August . Great accommodation, fantastic views over countryside. Breakfast was superb , choice of cereals, croissant, juices, tea, and coffee. Then, full English or parts of it , even did fresh Porridge. Restaurant food for dinner again was fantastic , good selection . Check out the specials board ..venison with Dauphinois potatoes was excellent. Great bar for before and after drinks . Staff are excellent ,cannot fault in any way . Highly recommended staying at the Poltimore Inn. Will be making another visit .

Not terrible but not great either. Long wait for very mediocre food. The price didn't reflect the quality of food. Burnt my mouth on microwaved dirty chips. Felt about the same quality as a weather spoon.

We had a weekend stay at the Poltimore, with breakfast and one meal. Rooms are pretty basic and the beds extremely hard, but it was very clean with a nice bathroom and plentiful hot water. Of note WiFi was pretty dodgy, sometimes working, sometimes only letting one device connect. It needs looked at. We really enjoyed our breakfasts, very tasty. Our one dinner was supurb, there's a really good chef in the kitchen. My wife had a vegetarian main that she thought was one of the best she'd had. Equally my fish and chips was just marvelous.

We had a very nice stay at The Poltimore Inn. We were in North Devon for a family funeral nearby and stayed here for two nights. My mother was very happy with her room in the pub itself and I was very happy in my lodge room which was warm and spacious. Beds are huge and very comfortable. Shower is nice and powerful. Breakfast is included and was delicious (fantastic sausages!) We had dinner at the Inn on both nights and the quality of the cooking and the produce was extremely high and locally sourced. Staff are without exception welcoming, kind, considerate, and efficient. Having stayed elsewhere in South Molton on previous family visits , we agree the Poltimore Inn will be our first choice in future.

We were a group of sixteen away on Exmoor needing a good meal after a cold day out. The Poltimore Inn provided was welcoming and friendly, exactly what we were after. I had booked a couple weeks before and we ordered on the evening. The food came out all together and ready to eat for us as a large group. The most popular choice being the home made pie, this being a great recommendation. The gammon steak, burgers, fish and chips were also very decent meals. The bar of the pub is a tradition country pub set up with a dart board, pool table and solid furniture. So gives a real feel of being an active Exmoor country pub. the restaurant area is out the back, open roomy and more modern in decor and furniture. Definitely make your way here if you are in the area.

We arrived after a long drive, They offered us an upgrade straight away outside the building. It was raining and down a long steep driveway. we declined. put our stuff in the room, (towel rail fell off bathroom wall when I put towel on it. We went straight down to eat and informed them straight away about the towel rail. First meals sent out chicken was raw and blood running out (pictures to prove this) Prawns undercooked, mixed grill was cooked but no colour to one side of the meats like it was done in a hurry. Bar manager was lovely she apologised asked what else we would like and offered us a free drink which we didn't want. I didn't want to risk a main meal and, as I'd not eaten since breakfast, just had a pudding. Hubby ordered a burger and chips with an extra burger on it, and it arrived without an extra burger. The chips weren't cooked and were hard, so they then brought fresh chips and extra burger. Chips were fine, but the second burger was burnt and hard on one side. The kitchen manager came out she was polite but argued it depends how you like your food cooking! Also they had been very busy. Bar manager had said any food would be free that night, and we were brought a £38 bill, so we asked for the manager/owner who was out right rude and obnoxious the way he was trying to defend the food. He told us the bill had been cleared so we went to our room. As we went up, we could hear them arguing in the kitchen and heard the owner say,'the law of averages your bound to get one wrong! We carried on to our room. 10 minute's, after we were in the room their was a knock on our door, husband answered, and the manager/owner and kitchen manager were standing their. The manager said,'You can stay tonight have breakfast but then we want you to leave.' I said what you are kicking us out because you fed me raw chicken? He said we aren't kicking you out. You can stay tonight, and we have asked you to leave in the morning!" We said we have nowhere else to go. we had paid for 2 nights, and he said loads of b&b find one of them! He said he had to protect his staff? and were going to slate them?, and I said we had no intention of slating you, and your staff weren't the problem they were apologetic and nice it was you that was rude and obnoxious. The kitchen manager asked him to leave us and he went and she said he isn't a people person! She then argued how a burger and chips should be cooked and that they couldn't serve a burger pink, to which I said, "But you can chicken?" In the end, she said we could stay the sunday night, but we would have to eat else where else to protect the chef, and she would have made us pay for the burger and desert. We said we would get back to her. We asked about the heating as the room was cold, and we're told it would come on a timer, which it didn't. It didn't make sense she said we could stay in the end but cudnt eat in the hotel in the evening. As one of their chef cooked us breakfast in the morning. I had a piece of toast hubby that had full breakfast and enjoyed it. They left, and we booked a Premier Inn, and we rang down and let her know. They refunded us the 2 nights stay, but it totally ruined our last 2 nights of our holiday and pretty much left us stranded! We have never had a problem like this before anywhere or been treated so badly. I only wish I could upload the picture of the chicken sitting in blood!

We were so disappointed with this meal. The only nice part of it was the view. We had hoped for decent to nice pub food but found we were unable to finish the main courses. We had five kids who are not fussy eaters. Four ordered burgers that they could not eat because the patties tasted strange. Among the adults we had beef pie, which had a stodgy crust, and fish pie which was almost all mash and no fish. Service was slow. Tables were sticky. When we paid it was telling that we were not asked if we enjoyed our meal.

Hello guys, so, myself, my brother and my girlfriend were excited to book a last minute table for a roast dinner as many other local pubs we called were fully booked… this probably should have been our first warning. It’s a carvery set up where a kind man cuts you slices of your chosen meat. The meat for me is important in any roast dinner and unfortunately here the beef was like eating a chewy wet marigold glove. The pork was petty tasteless and from there it got worse. Little tip for the chef would be to add more water to the smash mixture and to try making the Yorkshire puddings less like a an undercooked cake. Staff were quite pleasant although one young lady sang ‘I will get the chef for you’ in an annoying tone which didn’t lift any spirits. The restaurant was clean and the views were very pleasant and this pub is a good place to go for a drink. I also believe the standard food menu is good but I was particularly disappointed in the Sunday roast. 2 stars.

We stayed two nights, our son & daughter in law were camping for a week nearby. The English breakfast was exceptional, whilst their restaurant showed off the chef’s culinary skills, of which we all enjoyed. The bar area had the normal pleasantry banter, yet one could sit away from that area if so required. Debbie, along with her hard working happy staff, done us proud to say the least. Our Thanks to you all, we’ll be back for sure once this Covid-19, has been sorted, for a much longer stay, whilst we look forward to that.

My wife and I stayed in one of the Inn's lodges for a week in early July. We found the lodge to be more than spacious enough for a week's stay. Tea, coffee, towels and toiletries were replenished on request. I would recommend a front facing lodge where you benefit from great views over the surrounding countryside. A special mention to the quality of the shower. Plenty of room and powerful flow of water. I loved getting in there!!. During what was a mixed week weather wise it was great to have the Inn itself on your doorstep. If you do visit take time to mix with the locals who we found to be a very friendly bunch. The Inn stocks a good range of beers, lagers and ciders (although a local still cider would not have gone amiss) and a good, reasonably priced, food menu. The breakfasts were also very good. Finally a shout out to the staff who were efficient and friendly throughout our stay. Not a bad one amongst them but we'd like to say a special thank you to Nicolette. Thank you all.

We followed that with a chocolate orange tart and sticky toffee pudding and both were delicious. All in all we had a lovely time with good home cooked food and great service. Whilst on holiday in North Molton we ate here 4 times (one lunch and three dinners). The food is at a very high standard for pub food. The Poltimore is not styled as a gastro-pub, but is a village inn where locals and tourists alike are welcome. We went with our dog who was also welcomed in the bar and snug (not the main restaurant). We would recommend the following dishes: River Fowey Mussels which my wife had twice from the specials board, the steak and ale pie - I have never had a pie with so much tender meat crammed in, the fish and chips - amazing batter and lovely chips, and the lasagne. We also enjoyed the baked Camembert which we shared as a starter a couple of times. The staff are very friendly and make you feel that nothing is too much trouble. The garden is lovely with nice countryside views. One night during our stay we drove to another pub in a neighbouring village as we thought the menu looked a little more upmarket, but the service was lacking and the was simply not as good, hence we wish we had walked to “our local” instead.A great village pub - we would stay in North Molton again just to visit the pub!

Had booked 2 nights as a base for Exmoor. Not disappointed. Spacious and modern room in a triangular pod/lodge in the grounds of the pub. Great views over the fields. Friendly staff. Good pub dinners in restaurant with views. Only one very small gripe - as our window was overlooked by the pub and garden area, maybe a blind or something similar to nets would help. The other pods overlooked other areas, think it was just our pod. Would definitely recommend the Poltimore.

What a fantastic gem of a pub! Friendly staff, amazing food - the mussels were the best I’ve ever had! Generous portions, fantastic value and if you’re in the restaurant you get an amazing view of the countryside! We will definitely be back

We had been holidaying in Ilfracombe and whilst driving home followed the signs for this lovely country pub.You can’t miss the pub in the centre of North Molton village. We had a lovely welcome and we’re given options as where to sit, including the bar area, outside or the restaurant. We sat in the restaurant which had stunning views of the garden and hillside beyond. Real picture postcard setting. It was a Sunday so felt obliged to opt for the carvery. Very glad that we did, as the food was perfect. Highly recommended and feel very lucky we found this place.

A fabulously unexpected gem in a stunning setting! The food was amazing, well cooked and delicious. My poltimore steak pie was full of meat in a delicious gravy - a proper shortcrust pie, not just a puff lid on a dish and my friend's roast carvery was ample and tasty. A great meal in an amazing setting on Exmoor with staff that were helpful and very friendly. 10 out of 10 Poltimore Inn!

Very warm attentive welcome and although we were well passed food time, the chef rustled up a sandwich for us, which was really delicious with real thickly sliced ham and salad.

Staying locally we thought we'd give the village pub a try. Very accommodating and the food was excellent. They also welcomed our two well behaved golden retrievers dogs. Had a wide choice on the menu too. So good we didn't think twice about returning the following day for Subday carvery. The views over the valley make and excellent accompaniment.

The Poltimore Inn is nice enough - definitely more traditional pub fare than anything especially contemporary. Nice views and a pleasant location. Does the job if you’re in the area.

Came for my partners birthday, staff were lovely and cannot fault them at all. Beautiful atmosphere. We had a slight issue with a steak but had an apology from the chef along with 2 complimentary drinks. Beautiful atmosphere and can’t wait to come back.

Exceptionally cleanWe booked a last minute stay with booking.com and paid £100 for the night initially, due to the pressures of work and life in generalCouldn’t have been more surprised. We did get lost with the sat nav so make sure you set it right. We were greeted at the inn by a very pleasant lady who showed us to the pod.We had the most amazing view. We stayed one night then decided to stay another night. Our children also decided to book so they joined us next door in another podParking is opposite in the square and it’s a short cross over of the road. It’s also free which is a bonus We had a large king size bed, fluffy towels and all of the usuals. Nice big walk in shower, toiletries, central heating. Tv, tea and coffee facilities and beautiful view. Breakfast is free and must be booked. We dined two nights at the inn and it was worth every penny. The steak was delicious and so was the chicken. Staff were very polite and the younger members are also very hard working. All covid restrictions are in place and you even get supplied anti bac hand sanitizers in each pod. Second night we were able to have our small pooch. She also loved it here. Lots of places to walk and deep in the north devon countryside. We were able to add all of our bill on a tab which was useful. Checkin was easy and quick. The pods are set up high with a beautiful view, either by your door or stepping outside.Would we return? Most definitely Beautifully clean, fresh clean white bed linen and towels 5*

We came in for lunch after a walk in Exmoor and it was just perfect! A beautifully traditional pub with exceptional food (I recommend the Poltimore pie!) and great beer - the Exmoor ale was great! The staff were extremely friendly and chatty, and the Covid-19 procedures were perfectly in place without ruining the feel or experience of the pub. We want to visit again and stay in some of their guest rooms, which look lovely!

We had a three night stay in one of the pub's pods. Snowdrop Lodge was very clean, well-equipped and had stunning views across the valley. Tea, coffee, hand sanitiser and toiletries were provided. Breakfast in the pub was included in the room rate and there was plenty of choice, both cooked and continental style. We also ate in the restaurant each evening. The menu is varied, includes vegetarian options, and the helpful staff were able to accommodate my food allergy. Overall, a great stay in a COVID-secure pub and we will definitely stay there again.

We have just returned home from a 3 night stay here. It is well situated to explore the moors and surrounding areas which is why we chose it, so glad we did, the food here is delicious!. Breakfasts are excellent!.. a choice of eggs (cooked however you want), bacon, hash browns, mushrooms, tomatoes and beans in any combo...toast, jam, marmalade... Cereals, yoghurt and fresh fruit, tea, coffee and orange or apple juice. The evening meal was something we both looked forward to after a long day out. All homecooked and delicious! The Poltimore burger was super ( i dont usually eat burgers), the Poltimore pie ( steak and ale rammed full of meat)...the ' dirty chips' with heaps of pulled pork, covered in bbq sauce and melted cheese...and the hunters chicken was to die for!.....The crumble on the apple crumble had almonds, pistachios and other lovely extras..just yummy!.....BUT the crowning glory if the Poltimore Inn was the LOVELY staff there...Shouts out to Sarah who booked us in..Nicolette on the bar in the evenings,..the lovely Hollie who waited on us along with Lucy, Joley and Nicky. ( sorry if I spelt any wrong) You are all a credit to your employer. Thank you for such a lovely break amongst all this madness. ♥️(Btw,..we stayed in a'pod'... Super shower, lovely comfy bed.)

After being recommended we were looking forward to it. We asked for a 7.30 table but was asked to arrive at 7.15. We got there 15 minutes early.45 minutes later we were asked what we wanted to eat.In that time we had to ask for another drink.Got our food 25 minutes later. Not food of our choice but Ok as Fish and Chips goes. Had to sort our condiments from adjoining table. No one came and asked if food was Ok etc.Service was appalling. Excuse was that they were busy but honestly if that is busy well God help them if they ever get full.Manager Debbie not available. First time never left a tip.

We were so impressed with Lucy who served us. Our daughter has food allergies and she looked after her really well, we had total confidence in her. Nothing was too much trouble, also the chef was amazing making her food last minute. Our meals were delicious too (and huge)! We were just here for a flying visit but have decided we definitely want to come and stay sometime.Lovely place, friendly staff in the restaurant and bar and very welcoming.

If anyone is looking to book here I would say don’t hesitate. We stayed between the 16-21 Aug in one of the pods which are at the rear of the pub. This was very clean and comfortable. Some had a nice view of the valley too. Dog friendly too. I think nearly all of the guests had dogs! The staff are working very hard to keep up with the Covid requirements. We were convinced they didn’t actually go home as they were always there. They were always cleaning down tables and chairs between customers. The staff are also very friendly and nothing is too much trouble for them. Food is brilliant, lovely fresh cooked breakfast to order and a choice of cereals, croissants, fruit juices and strong hot coffee. Evening meals were lovely too. Only order the large dirty fries if you are really really hungry! I would like to thank all the staff there for a lovely stay and wish you all the best during these difficult times.

we were very disappointed on arrival as our party had to sit on separate tables as they said the table for 10bwas booked fir someone else. The staff were very friendly, however the meal was very very disappointing. I don't usually complain as I know the catering world can go wrong, however the Cjicken Madras was like a poor version of chicken stroganoff. And the Custard cream cheese cake was a tasteless rummy mess of some description on a plate. The member of staff asked if we enjoyed our meal once we paid. To my surprise, all she said when I commented about my experience was. Oh well I've got to ask Not a good answer. Ah well I'm glad we never paid full price thank you government . I won't be visiting this pub again.

Loved it at the Poltimore. The lodges were perfect with a lovely comfortable king size bed. Shower was larger powerful and hot. They were laid out so nobody needs to walk past each lodge to get anywhere making it feel very private. Breakfast was very good as was the bar. The restaurant was very busy so needs booking in advance and the food was good. We didn’t book a table one night as we had eaten out in the afternoon, but after a few pints we fancied something and they did us a nice pizza to takeaway back to the room. Stayed 3 days and really enjoyed it. Managed to visit loads of places all along the north Devon coast with the added bonus of driving across Exmoor when going back and forth. Highly recommended as a base on Exmoor.

Nice evening of normality at The Poltimore Inn. Food, ale and hospitality as excellent as ever. Ham, egg and chips and Poltimore Pie recommended; finished off with a shared Sticky toffee pudding. Only get to visit a couple of times a year when holidaying locally but always a treat

Was nice to eat out and tables are good distance from one another. Our table wasn't very clean though and I used my own anti-bac wipe. Food was average I'm afraid and pricey.

From arrival through to departure we were made so welcome. We stayed in one of the lodges and it was perfect. Lots of room, lovely tea tray and a fabulous shower room. Really comfortable 2 night stay. Had meal on Saturday night and the curry was so flavorful. Hubby had ‘dirty chips’ and he said they were the best he’s ever had. Will definitely return and would recommend to anyone.

Popped in on spec on a Saturday lunch time and, despite them being very busy with an unexpected wedding party, the welcome was warm and friendly and they found space for us. Stayed in a nearby cottage for a long weekend and tried out this local for a Sunday pub lunch. It did not disappoint. Lovely village pub with the atmosphere and decor of a quaint traditional village inn mixed with the modern more common high level pub dining experience. Had a lovely carvery. A selection of meats and vegetarian options available. A standard lunch menu is also served alongside the Sunday roasts. The pub was really busy when we went, and despite being a member of staff down, the service was still top notch, friendly and welcoming. If you find yourself nearby, would reccomend a stop off.

Stumbled across the cafe when we arrived in Ilfracombe and needed coffee. Quaint and characterful and clearly has it's regular customers. Coffee was good and hot but the homemade Eccles cake was amazing! The other treats looked good too. Coming across The Naked Cake cafe was the best thing about Ilfracombe which was otherwise, tatty and very down at heel.

Well the coffee was great, went back again and it was still great. The cinnamon swirl was great how do you choose with so much lovely cakes on offer, Missed out on the Victorian sponge wonder if they could post me a few slices.
