Polgooth Inn in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

Very friendly staff and lovely food. We had the lamb roast dinner. Would definitely go back as the place at a great vibe.

Quite often it's hard to find a place to eat that offers a beautifully balanced menu of delicious items,well selected for most pallettes including those who dare to venture away from standard pub grub....but Polgooth does! Varied menu with perfectly sized portions of exquisite restaurant quality food. Great environment, lovely surroundings and really helpful team.

We travel out of St Austell to go to the Polgooth Inn, it's the best pub, good food, friendly, you can bring your dog (they also do doggie dinners), regular events and the landlords are friendly and approachable.

Visit Polgooth inn regularly and we litterly cannot fault the place.Friendly staff,great food and the setting in the countryside is just amazing. We recommend Polgooth in 100 % to travellers and locals alike,it's just the best pub/restaurant in St Austell

We arrived at the pub early and were lucky enough to get some stools at the bar (usually busy). The pub really is a great place to go, have a drink and some good food. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable and serve as quickly as they can depending on how busy it is. So in review, it’s great drinks great food and great staff, give it a visit, we will be returning soon.

What an amazing place, hidden in a valley. Very old England, thick beams with lots of outdoor seats if you get the sun . Super friendly staff, happy to help. A little pricey but definitely worth it.

Went for the roast which wasn’t available after 3! But the website didn’t stipulate that. So I ordered a large nacho s with chilli. My daughter had the same but the small. The bowls of chilli were the same size!! Although I paid £4 extra for mine!! It had no taste! The nachos were very dry and not nice. I did mention it to the waitress who just said I ll tell the chef!! Won’t be going back for while if ever!!

We visited Polgooth Inn at the start of storm Darragh. The Inn is very cosy and warm. Ideal for getting the Xmas spirit started. Staff were incredibly helpful finding a table for 6 at peak time. Food was fabulous and good value. Christmas trip was delicious. Second year we’ve been so it is now Xmas tradition for a group of middle- aged women. Highly recommend.

Consistently good. Food is excellent and generous portions. Staff are lovely, unfailingly courteous and helpful. Always our first choice for eating out and we never fail to book in for family meals when they holiday with us. Superb breakfasts are available some days of the week, highly recommended to set you up for a day exploring Cornwall! Also, dog-friendly tables are available, which is a priority for us and it's a proper pub with a bar for those who like to pop in for a drink. The locals are very friendly. As a bonus, the background music is wicked!

Visited for a family breakfast for a birthday. Staff, as always, were so friendly and helpful including dealing with a very large birthday banner! It was not a problem to bring our own birthday cake and they were happy to help with anything we needed. Breakfast is excellent value and would highly recommend.

We visited the Polgooth Inn twice last week for dinner whilst on holiday We had two superb meals, wish we could have sampled whole menu Staff were lovely and very professional. Will look forward to visiting again when we are next on holiday down there.

The atmosphere was quaint. It is a lovely building. The staff were quite blunt and we didn’t feel valued. They seemed in a rush. The food was very over priced for the quality. Quite disappointed and doubt will visit again soon.

Excellent breakfast which we could eat outside as the weather was so amazing. FYI portion sizes are large at this Inn! Tea and coffee were refillable from inside the pub along with water. Like much of Cornwall, dogs are allowed and water bowls are provided outside.

What a beautiful hidden Gem of a Pub/Restaurant . We were staying in one of the Pods on site , so ate and drank at the Polgooth Inn . First of all the outside area is absolutely beautiful , set in amongst surrounding fields and Woods . The inside is a proper traditional Pub large and spacious . The waiting staff are helpful , lovely and full of advice what to eat and drink . Also very Dog friendly venue with Waterbowls, Blankets and even a Dog Menu . We ate and drank here for 3 nights , the food was superb . The Lamb Curry was the best I have ever tasted , so good in fact I ordered it twice . We will definitely return to this gem of a pub in the near future .

Excellent food but served the wrong drink. I ordered Brooklyn Pilsner but got Tribute. When I pointed out the error they insisted it was correct and not wanting to cause a scene I grudgingly accepted it but I am dis appointed they could not admit such an obvious error. I spent a lot of my working life in breweries and know the difference between a lager and a bitter!

Our first time here on a Sunday. The roast was lovely and portion size plentiful. We sat outside in the little booth with our two dogs. Dog friendly pubs always get a thumbs up from us, they are part of the family after all. The outside area has been created beautifully and spotlessly clean. The 2 staff that served us were incredibly friendly and a credit to Polgooth Inn. This makes such a massive difference when staff have a bit of personality and can engage with customers, it was so refreshing to be spoken to rather than grunted at, which appears to be the normal ‘youngster’ way of communication! Having read a few previous reviews, I can only assume they are used to visiting high end establishments and have very high expectations! One in particular clearly dislikes dogs, which is fine, however…ask to be moved somewhere else rather than publicly diss the place and possibly damage the reputation! Unfair in my opinion. Thankyou to the chef (superb food and presentation) and to the staff who were both great. Happy!

We always love it here, but unfortunately, on this occasion, it wasn't great. My husbands calamari starter was very average. the batter was thick and not crispy and expensive for what it was. My main was not good, the burger wasnt juicy and was all dried up. My husbands pulled lamb shepherd's pie, was lovely. Our desserts were lovely. But we did feel that for about £10 more on the bill, we could have eaten in another very popular restaurant and had amazing food!! Sorry, but on this occasion, it was overpriced and the quality didn't match.

Just visited for Sunday Lunch. Booking a table was very easy on the online booking portal. I had roast beef, my husband had the veggie option. Food and service absolutely great. Served promptly and with care, food hot and delicious. Pub has a great atmosphere, and has dog friendly areas too. Toilets spotless and well maintained. Only issue is parking is tight, but it’s an old pub in a small village, so little they can do about that. Well worth the visit, we will definitely go again.

First time in this Inn - family have recently moved into the village - staff were friendly and the Real Ales, all from St Austell Brewery, were perfectly acceptable!

Took the mother and gran in law for lunch with wife and our two kids. Staff were really friendly. Food was delicious and they have Rattler on tap. What's not to love.

After visiting before on several occasions 4 out of 5 of us (2 being chefs) all came to the same conclusion, your frozen rustic chips are shocking stodgy little fat sponges please change them also the brisket burnt end resembled pulled stringy beef not the superb dish you used to serve large chunks sweet and caramelised on a positive note other dishes went down well a mushroom special, a pizza and cod, also staff where polite and attentive.

Great service, lovely traditional pub feel although the side rooms do feel a bit isolated from the main pub, this may not be a bad thing if wanting a bit of peace & quiet. Food was very good and filling.

Fantastic lunch and so impressed with the way a dairy allergy was dealt with - kindly checking with the chef and even had the allergy detailed on the receipt , we have eaten here many times and it is consistently amazing quality food and such friendly staff.

Always friendly staff, great food, clean and great atmosphere. We were looked after and humoured very well LOL due to the fact that we were there from 1.30 in the afternoon for lunch through to 9.45 in the evening, loved every second, and thank you to all for looking after us.

Visited this evening with my family and our dog. Wow! Food was amazing! Such big portions. The ploughman’s in particular was outstanding. Our dog had the sausage, rice and peas which, unsurprisingly, she polished off. The staff were wonderful and so attentive. The only downside was that we were so full we couldn’t manage a dessert! Thank for a wonderful experience!

Great location with views over the surrounding countryside. Service was first class. We shared a starter which was a generous portion. Mains were faultless, washed down with a draught ale. Not cheap but very fairly priced for the quality and quantity. I would highly recommend.
