Poacher's Brasserie in Blaby

We initially chose this place as we liked the look of the menu and it was local. On arrival we were seated quickly and immediately informed of 5 dishes that were off the menu tonight which was disappointing as these were 5 dishes that we probably would've had and one of the reasons that attracted us to Doms in the first place. It is recommended on the menu that 6-8 plates are ordered per couple with prices ranging from £7-£20 per dish. We queried the portion sizes and were assured the more expensive plates were a more substantial size than the cheaper ones. The food when it arrived was good, although the lamb koftas which was one of the high priced dishes at just under £20 was literally 4 small meatballs in a sauce where in my head I'd imagined a platter of meat for that price point. It also went unnoticed by the waitress/ kitchen staff that we had only been served 6 dishes out of the 7 that we ordered. After mentioning it to the waitress she said that we should've been told that they'd ran out of that dish also. They offered us a complimentary dessert to make up for it which was fair enough. Overall food was generally good, waitresses were friendly although service was quite slow, there was a large party going on at the time so this might've been the reason for that. Portion sizes were small and over priced for what you had. After paying just short of £100 for tapas and a couple of glasses of wine each, both of us left hungry whilst not being big eaters.

Myself and my husband ate at Doms Restaurant last night for the first time. I’d been wanting to go for a while and decided to book to celebrate my birthday. It did not disappoint!! From the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome. We had a drink in the bar (which is lovely and cosy) before going to our table. We had the tapas menu and had read that 6-8 plates were recommended for a couple to share and put together a list (there was plenty of options to choose from) Aga explained it was best to order a few at a time to ensure we didn’t over order which was great advice. The dishes were staggered which was great as we got to focus on the flavours of each plate without anything getting cold. The food was sensational - not a dud dish in 9 plates! Every plate had so much flavour packed into it and was presented beautifully. Vincenzo (head chef) came into the bar later so we were pleased we got to tell him how impressed we were. We will definitely be visiting here again; top food, fabulous setting and brilliant service. Aga and Vincenzo’s passion for food and hospitality really shows, and we can’t wait to return again soon!!

Offering constructive criticism. Given the tapa’s portions some seem overpriced. Was told no olives as supply had not arrived. Sorry but there many outlets where olives could very easily be sourced. Service was acceptable but in short it was nothing special though has potential. Wouldn’t make a point of returning.

Came hear for a special occasion for my mum, with her friends and our family. Very welcoming, great descriptions of the food. The garden area was lovely, we had 3 dishes it and they were all incredible. Great choice of wines, cocktails too. We had a lovely lovely evening. Aga is amazing as always

The service was great; the food was delicious but the portion sizes….!!! We spent almost £50 each and came away hungry. The croquettes were smaller than golf balls - we all just looked at the food when it arrived. My friend apologised as she felt guilty for booking it. We all need value for money these days snd we are 4 ladies with average appetites. There were only 3 tables being used for the whole of Friday evening. We won’t be back and I doubt it will survive into 2024.

Fab experience from start to finish at Dom. Lovely tasty different tapas dishes. Would eat them all again. Shallot tart, samosa scotch egg, king prawns, pork belly, pinsa pizza, crème brûlée, Eton mess - plus the fantastic cocktails. Service was great, a really relaxing evening already rebooked for a birthday meal. I also need to try the Sunday menu. Can’t wait to return. The venue is spacious and accessible for my manual wheelchair with an accessible toilet (the sink does look like it’s been used for weight bearing transfers so a bit unsafe and scary so don’t lean on it)

This restaurant is a real gem! A chef with a passion for quality and flavours from around the world. Very well laid out menu including fabulous vegetarian and fish options. Thai mussels were succulent, and just fab…great to share. Shallots tart tatin busting with flavours ..in fact every dish ticked all the boxes. Excellent service in a cosy relaxed atmosphere. Something for everyone ..we’ll be back soon.

This is our 2nd visit and I’ve got to say it’s best Roast sit down meal I’ve had in leicester / Leicestershire They do 3 course set menu for 30 pound and that’s really good value for your money The lady that owns it is bubbly and always smiling / laughing she can’t do enough for you such a lovely welcome from her and her staff I would definitely recommend this place to everyone I can’t wait to come back and try the tapas menu It’s not huge restaurant so I would stay definitely book before you go But the restaurant is smashing it big credit to the chef The flavours are incredible See you again soon Chelle & Steve

A piper reception followed by a traditional Burns night introduction and history of ritual. Wonderful cooked food in true Scottish style. Very attentive staff. A wonderful evening had by all.

Visited the restaurant as a couple on a Friday evening. I've read about the place but haven't had a chance to visit so I am very glad I did. The restaurant had a lovely ambiance - log fire in the reception room with comfortable chairs. Staff were all very professional and friendly. The venue was running two options - a Christmas three course set or the small plates option. We opted for the small plate option as we wanted to try out various dishes. We ordered bao buns, thai mince taco, the grilled ox heart, mussels, hand cut chips, basque pork belly and the chorizo scotch egg. All the dishes were attractively presented and the bao bun came in its own individual bamboo steamer which was very cute! Our faves were the Thai mince taco, the grilled ox heart and the mussels. The creme brulee dessert was really divine and interesting! The cocktails were nice- we had the winter spice and the bellini. Would recommend a visit! :)

Sunday Lunch menu: my wife's belated birthday meal for me. Greeted by friendly Aga (not the stove, but head of front-of-house!), who immediately made us feel welcomed and valued. Three-course menu with 3 or 4 choices for starter, mains and desserts for £30. No wine or other alcohol as [a] I rarely drink at lunchtime in case I fall asleep in the afternoon (!) and [b] I never drink and drive; my wife preferred an orange juice Starters: both of us had pumpkin soup, which was sensational. Well made, velvety soup with superb flavour, served with a warm roll and top-class butter. Mains: My wife had a traditional Sunday roast lunch. She chose sirloin, rather than chicken. Served with Yorkshire pudding, creamed potato and gravy. The meat looked pink and juicy, and "tasted like beef should". Her Yorkshire pudding was a little over-baked. We shared a platter of vegetables: roast potato, tenderstem broccoli, carrots, parsnips. My main was a halibut steak, cooked to perfection and served in a Goldilocks-sized puddle of pinkish sauce. They said the sauce ingredients were Vincenzo the chef's secret, so all I can say is that I wanted to lick the bowl! Desserts: My wife had a traditional tarte tatin, as good as any she had ever eaten. I chose a liquorish ice-cream with lemon foam and candied fennel all on a base of caramelised ginger crunch. The manu also showed a mystery ingredient: "Liuk". Google translate says it's Indonesian (what?) for "contorted" or "wriggle". But for me the candied fennel was a revelation. Who would have thought that fennel would sit perfectly in a sweet dessert? But it did! All my decades on the planet, leading to this phenomenal new taste experience! The ice-cream was not over-liquorishy, and the lemon foam balanced the whole dish out. Service was prompt and friendly. Our last visit there was two or three years pre-Covid, and I believe it has changed hands since then. For the better: good then, but great now. We are already plotting a meal there for my wife's birthday early next year. The "Dom" Restaurant may be in a small village off the beaten track, but it's well worth the trip.

Poachers brasserie had recently changed its name to Dom and changed the menu to tapas style (check the website for menu). Vincenzo the head chef has been very inventive and thoughtful in regards to the variety of dishes and ingredients. Each dish comes out when it is ready which gives you time to appreciate its quality. Superb food - one of the best in Leicestershire- up there with Michelin starred Johns House. Great service - perhaps a bit more attention to drinks service. Highly recommended

Went as a party of 4, lovely staff looked after us from the moment of arrival and explained the dishes clearly. We went for a Tapas style meal where we had a huge variety of dishes: I'd have any one of them again anytime, the rest of the party felt the same. A truly historic caring restaurant ..... Seeing the other similar reviews, I'm worried that it might make it difficult to get in next time!!!

Absolutely fantastic food for our first visit at Dom. Quite genuinely some of the best food in Leicester. Absolutely delicious yet unpretentious modernised pub setting. The service is perfect and so knowledgeable about the produce and wines. You can tell from the offset this venture means so much to the owners and they have a true passion for what they serve. All recommendations were 10/10, the Lebanese rose will become a staple in our house if we can get our hands on it! I could not pick a favourite dish as all were outstanding and would order all again. I had a Groupon voucher from 2020 which I had to use be 30th April so I lunched here today with a friend. The setting is lovely. The menu is very limited. I had mussels starter and my friend has fresh octopus. We both ordered margarita pizzas for mains. This proved to be inedible for myself and my friend. It was underdone pizza base with a runny oily topping of cheese and tomato. It looked bad and tasted worse. I hate making a fuss but we simply couldn’t eat it. We sat with the barely touched plates for 30 mins. Nobody enquired if everything was ok with our meal, not even when we asked for the bill. The bill came and I then made my comments.I have eaten here lots of times before and it has been a favourite of mine up to now. When eventually I told someone that the pizza was inedible, there was no apology, rather an intimation that I didn’t know how it should be. My daughter lives in Italy and I do know what a real Italian pizza tastes like.The problem was there was virtually nothing on the menu that could be used under the terms of the Groupon voucher. And the fact that nobody followed up with a friendly “Is everything ok for you” which I thought was standard practise.I know this restaurant gets really good reviews. I have given one myself in the past. I was thrilled when it reopened and wish them every good luck.

Ordered this for delivery on Saturday night which was promptly delivered and hot. Food was of a high standard thoroughly enjoyable. Would not hesitate to use this service again.

I’ve been to Poacher’s several times and never disappoints. Great service and the food is the best in the county. Classic dishes but also some really wonderful dishes I haven’t seen anywhere outside London. Recently had Cornish crab tacos on a homemade tortilla - bliss. Followed by halibut with black ink and kimchi cabbage leaf - cooked perfectly. Also had the filet in previous visits, Sunday Roast and pizzas all really tasty. Just nice to visit somewhere that does seasonal food and isn’t cooking from frozen.Also worth noting I felt very safe with their cleaning and mindfulness during covid.

Had such a wonderful evening last Saturday at this restaurant.Service was friendly & top class! My husband enjoyed both specials, the trout & sea bass while I enjoyed every mouthful of my 3 course vegan dinner which they always make sure is different each time I visit & never an after thought as it can feel in other places. Presentation was wonderful & it was lovely to enjoy the normality if eating out during these strange times. I highly recommend anyone to visit.

My wife and I love coming here for date night. The place is very well decorated giving a really cosy atmosphere. The staff are so accommodating and friendly. And the food...absolutely brilliant! The pricing is a little more than your average restaurant but the food is well worth it. There's a great Italian/british theme to the menu and the chef is always changing dishes based on the season and local produce. My wife loves the incredibly tasty ravioli dishes and I'm a firm favourite of their seasonal venison. Cannot wait to be back here again! Thank you Aga and the team!

Our second visit to Poacher’s. The first one was a perfectly pleasant but a little underwhelming given the many rave reviews. This time we visited with 2 children and all opted for pizza. The staff were all really friendly and attentive, all wearing masks however one odd thing we did notice was that the manager (I think Aga?) pulled her mask down next to the table every time she spoke to a customer and then put it back on every time she walked away from the table. Not sure what the point of wearing it was! Whilst on the subject of Covid measures I should add that one way system in place and plenty of hand sanitiser available, tables not too close together so all good on that point. From arrival to food reaching the table was an hour and 10 minutes which we felt was too long. Nice to be unhurried but we did get to the point that we were hungry and a little impatient. Pizzas were a little thicker than we favour usually and could have done with an extra minute cooking but were ok. Overall was fine but wouldn’t rush back.

Wow !!! Had the fillet steaks cooked beautifully host was great will return wonderful evening and the cheesecake was unusual but well worth a try.

My daughter and I have been to Poacher's Brasserie twice since lock down was lifted and had a lovely meal both times.The food is amazing, as always, Vincenzo is a very creative chef, presenting dishes which not only taste delicious but look too good to eat!!Aga is a brilliant hostess, the range of wine and spirits is second to non.The restaurant is beautiful and welcoming, the bar area is very relaxing.In a nutshell, this place is the best restaurant I have eaten in.

Saturday we followed the evening meal and thoroughly enjoyed it, so much so that we have returned for a drink and lunch today. Service is impeccable, food is divine, COVID guidelines followed to the letter which is really comforting. Keep up the great work guys you are doing an amazing job.

Superb cooking. We had a fish tapas to share which was customised to suit my gluten free needs. The dishes didn't hit your eye with their beauty but just wow. I was with a very finicky eater and wouldn't have been surprised if she complained, instead I heard a gentle 'oh' when she tried the halibut with something coloured in squid ink. She has been talking about it ever since. I adored the cubes of tuna with wonderful herbs. I made sure I'd scooped the last of the sauce. I couldn't have the crab cakes because they weren't gluten free but apparently they were wonderful - soft and moist. The menu didn't draw me in, the mention of truffle and archichoke was a bit off putting but I realise that I loved the archichoke puree. An innovative meringue filled with apple for pudding was fantastic because the apple was not too sweet. We didn't have the cheapest options, and being lunchtime there were reasonably priced pasta and pizza. I was tempted by gluten free pasta. Now we have found this restaurant we will definitely be back.

I celebrated my 40th Birthday with a Sunday lunch at the Poachers Brasserie via their private dining room. From start to finish the attention to detail for customer service was impeccable. Aga was amazing and lead the team to deliver a great service. The food was incredible, super tasty and I would argue is a restaurant to challenge others not only in the locality but countrywide.So thank you. You made turning 40 .....more enjoyable. xx

Came for lunch having wanted to try this restaurant for a while, and now wish we’d not waited so long! Started with a nice drink by a roaring fire while we looked at the menu, very cosy. Food was all great, literally can’t thing of a single negative thing to say. The venison main I had was particularly tasty. Service from all the staff was really friendly. Only downside was it was a bit quiet, but it was Thursday lunchtime so is maybe to be expected. We will certainly return!

We visited Poachers last week and had a fantastic dinner...better than any fancy michelin starred restaurant.We both had prawns to start and followed with the most delicous fillet steak...very tasty and cooked to absolute perfection.The red wine was mature and well balanced and not expensive but value for money. The service was excellent and the restaurant almost full. Well done to all the staff.

We eat fairly regularly at the poachers. The Cote De Beouf (20 oz ribeye) is a personal pleasure of mine! We went for our daughters birthday meal and Agga and the crew (their service is always phenomemal) went the extra mile and let our daughter and her two friends loose in the kitchen to help make their own pizzas!!

Went for Sunday lunch and literally do not know how we haven’t been here before. Service was excellent, food was excellent, drinks were excellent.

A lovely welcome on arrival, the bonus of a living fire, and the food was excellent. It didn't help that some of the wedding party, having forgotten what they ordered, didn't want what was listed but the willingness of the chef to change was amazing. The delays between the courses enabled time for the food to be digested and for conversation. The staff were excellent and there was attention to every detail from clearing tables to ensuring the jugs of water were regularly filled.

Had a delicious light lunch here while catching up with a friend... our food was excellent, the decor and ambience is lovely and the service second to none!! Will definitely return to try other options!!

The staff, the menu, the decor, the food and the ambience all very near perfect. But oh the wait for food to arrive at the table. Seemed like forever. Waiting staff offered us a round of drinks because of the delay.

Went to this place for lunch, the food was surprisingly tasty! Will definitely recommend! My 7 year old son especially loved the soup!

My Husband I visited today for his Birthday.So pleased we chose as simply delicious food.

Met a couple of friends there to celebrate my wife's birthday and first impressions were really good as the place has a really nice atmosphere. Table booked for and we were seated at 8.40 - despite having the menu in the bar where perhaps they could have taken the orders so that starters could be ready when you sat down we took them with us and it was another ten minutes or so before the orders were taken. Starters took another quarter of an hour and the mains arrived at 10. That said when the food arrived it was perfect - the green chicken, duck and sea bass were wonderful but the star was the meat platter as a starter. generous portions to say the least. The place didn't seem over busy and I can't understand why everything was so slow. It took the edge off a lovely evening and that's the only reason I haven't given it 5*. Yes I would go back and would recommend it but with the proviso - be prepared to wait.

Booked table and had Sunday lunch here based on the excellent reviews. The ambience of the place, the starters and the wines were very good, let down by mash, roasters and meat on the mains that were just not hot enough. The potatoes went back and were replaced.

Amazing food and friendly service in a lovely setting. Surprised by the quality of the food - I had pigeon breast to start, green chicken main and lavender panna cotta to finish. Excellent flavours, fresh ingredients, beautifully presented. Highly recommended!

We went here because we were given a Groupon voucher as a gift. I'm so pleased we now know about this place. The staff were friendly and helpful and made us feel really welcome. The food was excellent too. My compressed oxtail for starters was delicious and came with gluten free bread drizzled with oil. For main I chose a pasta dishes with a goat's cheese, garlic and cream sauce. The gluten free pasta was cooked to perfection and the sauce was divine. It was the best pasta dish I've ever had! No room for dessert this time but we will definitely be returning for one.

Had scallops for a starter, beautifully cooked, lamb rack for mains lovely and pink and the vegetables al dente just how I like my veg, service was perfect couldn’t fault our evening!

Wow!! From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere and environment at Poacher's is absolutely stunning. From the beautiful bar area with open fire, to the modern and comfortable dining area, the decor is just lovely.

We have celebrated wifes birthday last night. Gone for tasting menu, great collection of several meals and every dish was an absolute treat. This guy can cook! Everything served in time, perfect serice! Truly recommend!

Siamo stati io e la mia compagna a trovare lo chef Vincenzo nel suo ristorante. Tutto ci ha estasiato, a partire dagli antipasti per finire con i dolci. Il bilanciamento nei piatti che abbiamo assaggiato è sintomo di una ricerca continua e sicuramente ci tornerò per assaggiare altri dei suoi piatti. La sala è anch'essa molto curata e ci è piaciuta molto.

Super Sunday lunch for 6 of us. 4 roast beef and 2 duck confit. All very good. Great service too.

I have visited the poachers on several occasions for lunch and dinner. As always the food is excellent and the staff led by Aga are friendly and efficient. I recently had my 79th birthday party there and everyone of the 40 people agreed how excellent it was. Won’t be long before I am back there again

I attended as part of a large group, the restaurant had been pre-informed that my partner and I were vegans so the chef had plenty of time to prepare. However what were were presented lacked in imagination and was bland. The main course was pea risotto, which looked and tasted like a plate of mushy peas and stodgy rice. The sweet again lack any effort or imagination, three scoops of sorbet!

Last week I did not have the inspiration to write. This Sunday, I do not know where to start. Perfection in every inch. Renata commented that it was great Sunday. The place itself made a great impression for us. Sympathetic and large interior behind the entrance door. Reception as the most desirable place in any restaurant. And the lady of the house, who is holding over every little detail. He knows everything, he has a solution for everything. Aga, the person who dispels the spell in the room. We like it. This is necessary. If you would like to see and feel the taste of good gastronomy, Poacher's Brasserie is such a place. A sense of taste and a touch of nonchalant interior is the hallmark of Poacher's Brasserie. I will write briefly about food and have to check for yourself. Scallops for starter and crispy bacon - great to each other, fit always works well, presentation on the plate, simple and effective. On a scale of one to five ... seven. This week, we gave up Sunday Roast and chose the fish. Halibut always defends itself, but the Poacher's Brasserie is served exquisite. Everything on the plate is great. Dessert is just a formality and there was no disappointment. Almond sponge and chocolate mousse (see photos) do not need any additional invitations. I close my eyes and wait for the next challenge in April. Greetings and recommend for a visit.

We visited today thanks to a gift from my sister. The starters were lovely. The steak and Pizza we had for main course were both wonderful and the hosts were attentive and caring. The gin selection was impressive and we will be back to try more soon!

Wonderful staff and fabulous food, reasonably priced, great choices on the menu. A log fire with atmosphere. Countryside/village setting.

The welcome, the atmosphere and the place is just a great start.... then we got the menus....the choice, the quality, the recommended plates were all a wonderful indecisive moment! We had pigeon and bonemarrow starters and every mouthful was great! Mains of tuna, ox cheeks and chicken (between us) were all so tasty the plates were empty.. but thankfully left us room for desserts ( blood orange tart, fried apple pie and ice creams) followed by some wonderful brandies just rounded off the evening perfectly! It was a rare and special moment to spend quality time with my parents and it was the perfect place and eating experience to make it even more special! Definitely recommend this place... just slightly gutted we don’t live locally as I would be here every week! Service, quality and total package.

Just been here for the first time for an impromptu Sunday lunch. Staff were absolutely fantastic and then our three couse lunch was brilliant. We love eating out and ordering something we could never cook ourselves . Didn't disappoint and will definatley come again . Absolutley lovley. Thank you all
