Horrible attitude from the barista on numerous occasions. She makes it uncomfortable to be in the cafe if you have done anything to irritate her I.E ask her to turn down the music, have a pram etc Loud music makes it uncomfortable to be in with family or speaking to anyone you’re with. She serves her friends first and if she is in ANY WAY stressed you will know about it. So sad because this place has the best coffee in Beckenham and delicious food and we have been loyal for years but this service really ruins the atmosphere and now I dread going in

Visited here over the weekend while visiting family local to the area. We had decided to grab a coffee before walking around the nearby park. Initially I was impressed with the slick look of the place and the fact they have managed to fit so much into such a tiny space. Our coffees were very nice, but absolutely tiny for the price. After ordering I also decided to pick up a bottle of drink to take with me, but was left waiting to pay for it with absolutely no acknowledgement from the staff for at least 10 minutes. As the kitchen was open plan it was easy to watch staff cooking, and some of what I watched left me concerned about hygiene. For one, only one person was wearing a mask and this was dangling below his nose so may as well not even been worn, and I watched them moving between tasks like cleaning a grill to chopping herbs to removing items from an oven to boxing items for take away with no hand washing, which is a basic practice in food hygiene. It has definitely put me off returning or ordering any food in the future.

Visited here last weekend to get a takeaway coffee, some sourdough bread and eggs. Coffee was very nice and well made, bread from a fantastic Artisan baker was delicious and the eggs of great quality (my main reason for visiting) as also one of my absolute favourite brands. This meant my not having to queue for ages to buy at a supermarket and yes whilst i did pay a premium, i was happy to do so, it wasn’t too much more, quicker and i always like to help the independent shops over the ‘big boy’ supermarkets. Having visited here a few times pre-Covid19 and sitting at home in lockdown, thought I’d give this lovely place another mention. Looking forward to returning again when i am able to and would recommend you do the same.

I came here with a friend for a Sunday brunch. The atmosphere was really relaxed which was helped by the friendly staff. I was initially slightly apprehensive upon seeing the menu given the relatively high prices - but I went with it anyway because the descriptions sounded good. Usually the vegan option is stuffed on the end of the menu as a matter of compliance - but the Korean tofu exceeded all expectations. Clearly a lot of thought has gone into this menu. It certainly pushed the boundaries of what you would see as the conventional breakfast items. But it worked so well. My friend and I were blown away by the flavours and the value for money. Meanwhile, it is not at all pretentious and anyone would enjoy a breakfast here. 10/10 will be going again.

Once upon a time this place was wonderful. But we've just left after a very sorry sunday breakfast thinking 'what's happened to Poached'? Firstly the menu has been slashed, so my wife wasn't able to order her usual breakfast as it (and many others) had been slashed from the menu. My 'Special', which I was surprised to see had gone up in price to over 10 quid (£10 for an english!) arrived with a burnt sausage patty and dry waffles accompanied by cold streaky bacon. To top this all off after walking a short distance down the road we realised we'd been overcharged. A very disappointing experience after coming to this place for over a year. Something unfortunate has happened to the cooking. The service has always been hit and miss, and yes, its a bit cramped. But once the quality of the fare goes down its only a matter of time. Sorry, Poached, but it's no longer great.

I went here for breakfast and ordered the halloumi packed egg and avocado muffin. I was horrified when it came with all of the avocado bkack and rotten and was advised that this was due to vinegar . I eat avocado all the time so I know what rotten avocado looks like. A second member of staff came out after hearing the commotion and brought out a tray of fresh green avocado . He then placed my rotten avocado in the bin. The first man was extremely rude and never once apologised !!!! For this reason I will not return ever due to the rudeness . Shame to this restaurant , beautiful decor and lot of money spent on building this business up and seriously let down by rudeness and quality of food !!!!!!

We went to Poached. It was totally empty.Of the 3/4 staff behind the counter, none of them approached us to offer a drink or to take an order whilst they continued to chat.Eventually when they did take our order the food that arrived was distinctly average in terms of quality and for what it was was fairly expensive. I had the Poached Special at £9.60I went to Poached when it originally opened and it seemed at the time a bright addition to the high street with decent food and service but I don’t think the quality of that particular dish warrants the price and clearly the service needs to improve.Positives: the coffee was nice.

What they manage to do in their tiny kitchen is amazing! The brunch menu is creative and delicious and it is my favourite breakfast/ brunch by far. It’s tiny though - I go during the week and generally don’t have a problem getting a table but I imagine it is a battle at the weekend. In the summer they have a couple of tables out the back which they have made look really lovely given that it is essentially two tables that overlook a station car park! Well worth a visit ... if you can get in.

We live about 20-30 mins walk away and now visit for weekend brunch on a weekly basis! Whenever we have friends or family staying we also insist on going to Poached and it always goes down very well. Prices are a on the high side but it's the only cafe anywhere near us that serves this kind of food and it really is delicious. They are also now on Uber Eats or Deliveroo (I can't remember which) and have managed to get the food to travel very well too (although the prices are A LOT more when ordered). The coffee is great, the pancakes are sooo soft and fluffy, but most of all I just love their poached or scrambled eggs, smashed avocado and sourdough bread. Mmmm!

I've been to poached a few times as live round the corner and luckily managed to get a table before it got busy as it is a very small place; I've witnessed several times tables hang on for about half an hour afterwards just chatting with nothing in front of them (note for the owners really....). If the rating was purely based on the food then it would have 5 out of 5, food is fresh and inventive, eggs cooked perfectly. I've had to knock off one purely for the price of the food, for breakfast and sizes it's on the expensive side, and on the odd occasion have copied the dishes and made my own version at home.I would definitely recommend trying it, but it's not a weekly visit, more a treat when happy to pay a bit more for brekkie.

First visit on recommendation of a friend. I ordered scrambled eggs on sourdough with crispy bacon. Scramble was over done and tasteless, if eggs are the theme of your restaurant, come on get it right. Sourdough was dripping in butter, too much and bacon over done. Also no black pepper available only white! No smiles from waitress, although not rude just expressionless. Liked the mint water on the table but won’t b3 returning as have had far superior scrambled eggs elsewhere.

Had the most lovely breakfast in Poached. I had poached eggs on sourdough with smoked salmon and avocado. The avocado was insane; I will need to ask what they mix it with next time because I couldn't get enough. I have a dairy intolerance and asked for no butter which the chef did then put on my toast. However I made them aware and they apologised and instantly made me a new one which I did not have to wait long for at all. We wanted some coffees after our food which I sometimes struggle with being dairy free with alternative milks however they had a wide range of options including oat, soy and almond. I went for an almond milk mocha which was delicious. Very good value for money for such delicious food as well. I will definitely return soon.

Interesting choices as well as staples, all brilliantly cooked and every mouthful was packed with flavour & good quality ingredients. Best in the local area by far & great value. I'd been wanting to try this for sometime because people were going on about how good it was.I tried it and lets just say- there weren't a single thing on the menu that I would eat. Except, say, for the pancakes. Pancakes are something you'd make at home and it would take no time at all. So as you can imagine this was extremely disappointing. I don't eat pork-of any kind- so was disappointed to see it's in almost every single dish. This should NOT be an eating place as it is far too small and cramped. I was also shocked to see that the premises next door was covered in mouse/rat droppings. I REALLY hope that these visitors aren't entering poached!I DO NOT recommend this dining establishment.

Can’t remember the name of it but it was just shy of £10. It arrived in good time and was as expected. The sausage cheese thing was a bit weird, not to my taste. Egg was cooked well and the homemade brown sauce was pleasant. The only thing that really put me off and would put me off going back was the grease. Literally everything on my plate was saturated with it, like swimming. I get it’s a fried breakfast but toss it in some paper to dry it off a bit. It turns my stomach a little thinking about it. Shame really because everything else about the trip was very nice. The coffee was delicious and petite muffin thing was lovely. Called in for lunch and was surprised how tiny this place is. 5 tables, 3 have the wall for support when seated, the rest have stalls that are not comfortable. Very cramped. Nice little touches with the water, tiny salt and pepper pots like those you get in a Christmas cracker. Food looked amazing, not cheap. Melon and grapes on some breakfast dishes. I looked at other diners and all those who had poached eggs actually had what resembled hard boiled eggs. Not one was soft and that was out of 3 diners. I opted for the poached breakfast with surprise, surprise, fried eggs. Waffles with cheese on top were greasy from the deep fryer, homemade brown sauce was good, sausage wasn't to my taste, big plate, looked good but not great I'm afraid. For £9.90 I was disappointed. Average price for a dish is 9.9 they don't use £ signs. All very trendy. Toast and jam is under a fiver, I think it was 4.5. A mum came in with a pram and the place was full. Total 10 diners. Toilet is so tiny like a broom cupboard. Full marks for effort, however, there are many places popping up like this in Beckenham. Not somewhere you would return after you have tried it. Perhaps it would have half a chance if it was in bigger premises with a change of menu, forget the poached eggs, doesn't live up to its name. Good quality ingredients except for the greasy waffles.

I went to Poached today for the first time with my boyfriend and I can say without doubt that it was one of the best brunches I've ever had. I had the Spanish breakfast with 2 poached eggs, serrano ham, bread with tomatoes and figs (amazing!) and my boyfriend had what he described as 'the best breakfast ever' - smoked bacon, fried egg, sausage on english muffin and cheesy potato waffles. The eggs had a super orange yolk and were very tasty and fresh. On the menu apart from a variety of eggs and different 'breakfasts, you can also find pancakes, granola and kids menu. Coffees and soft drinks are also available of course.Brunch is served daily from very early morning (or 8am on sundays) until 3pm and service is quick and staff friendly and attentive. The only downside is that the place is super tiny (around 15 people max) and as it's becoming very popular I think they could do with a bit of extra space, but other than that it's just great. My new favourite place for a brunch, for sure!

Poached proved that a truly independent unshackled and food-passionate team can deliver a place which is friendly and health and taste conscious which encourages locals to go out more often and to meet up in great surroundings for a healthy snack and chat.

Have been going to Poached since it first opened. Good coffee, excellent food and the staff are lovely! Highly recommend - and they are really mindful of food intolerances!

There's a good stretch of breakfast / lunch places near Beckenham Junction station (Em & Lou's etc), but Poached is easily the best place we've tried out of the lot. Great food with a twist - not just a standard full English. Nice coffee and really friendly staff. It's not a massive place so gotta get there earlyish at weekends to get a table.

Been going there for a few times now for weekend breakfast. Small place with few spaces with direct view into the kitchen. The food choices are excellent and every dish has its finesse and great attention to detail. Not to mention how amazingly great it tastes. Would queue to get a spot.

Visiting family for Christmas, (I'm from Lincolnshire), was shocked how rediculously expensive everything was in Bromley including even basic food, l could have a 3 course meal in Lincoln for price of a starter is some of the places here!! The Terrace Cafe was a breath of fresh air, really acceptable prices, big menu and good quality food, surprised also on the decent portion sizes. Not surprised they were busy! (I'm writing this review while still in the cafe). Well done guys.

Warm friendly atmosphere with great coffee and food. Portion sizes are very good so don’t agree with some of the negative comments

Used to be such a good coffee, but the last few times were horrible. The baristas don't know how to heat oat milk and just burn it. Water glasses were filthy, probably from washing in same water as stuff covered in batter mix. Great crepes, but elsewhere for coffee!

Service with a smile on a Sunday morning. Went there for coffee and granola - relaxing and god atmosphere. We walked out of Starbucks as there was no smiles there.
