Plush Cafe in York

This cafe is decorated so amazing!! It's so family friendly and super instagrammable. The food is fabulous, in particular I love the rainbow bagels. It feels like such a safe and friendly space, I come with crafty pals, friends with kids/babies or to hang out and have a celebratory drink. Lovely, kind staff are always super helpful and they're incredibly allergy conscious which is very important to me as a nut allergy sufferer. Would recommend for any occasion!

Food and drink was good. Unfortunately we were told we couldn't order desserts, as we were told that the kitchen was closing in half an hour. Was disappointed not to have been told that when ordering our savouries that we we wouldn't be able to order desserts after. It's a shame really because it was good apart from that.

I visited the restaurant with my two grandchildren. We opted for the room upstairs with the swing seats. This room was extremely cramped and uncomfortable. The seats made of slatted timber were terrible to sit on...a few cushions would not go astray. The swings were annoying with the noise they generate in addition to hitting of those who tried to get by or who wre sitting opposite. I ordered a brie and bacon bagel....it arrived out on a small plate with a scattering of chips...very poor presentation and value for money. I had to request a knife and fork. The children ordered a 10inch pizza between them. It was presented un sliced and they were expected to cut it with a knife. I requested a pizza slicer that never arrived. The access to this room was via a very narrow, dirty stairs. There was a toilet half way up the stairs with the door open when not in use....not the best approach to a restaurant table. The toilet itself was untidy and unattended with used paper on the floor and both toilet paper dispensers empty. I could go on...but overall the visit was most disappointing. The restaurant does not live up to the description given on the website. I found the staff unfriendly and they appeared not to be enjoying their work. Finally I feel the food on offer and the manner in which it was presented, the cramped conditions in which we dined ...was poor value for money.

Lovely niche cafe, lots of opportunity for fab pictures. However, extremely overpriced. Ordered 2 adult afternoon Teas and 1 children’s version with 2 extra drinks… over £70! The food came out on one afternoon tea tray… pretty disappointed to be honest… great place to come if looking for a quirky rest and a coffee… just don’t order food!

It may be a bit more "insta" than taste sensation, but a kid is always going to enjoy sitting on a swing in the garden room or else lounging around on cushions in the Moroccan room - less so the dark room downstairs. They also make the food look pretty and appealing to kids. Its not world beating cuisine, and in a regular decor this would firmly be getting a 3 at best, but the looks do provide a point of interest and elevate the experience a bit. That said, I'm not rushing to return.

Massively overpriced. Very cute and quirky, the staff were lovely. I’d go back as I’d like to see the swing room but wouldn’t spend much I couldnt do the stairs that day and so had to go in the “neon” room (not sure what made it neon - it was animals and greenery) which was really dark. The rainbow bagel was very nice and fresh, but for £10 I expected more than one thin slice of Brie and one piece of bacon. I had to move the filling over to one side so that could get a decent mouthful! And then just had cranberry sauce on the other side so left half of it.

Great quirky cafe , really enjoyed it. Nice food and coffee. In a really good location and good staff . Will return in the future .

This place was really cute there are two comfy feature rooms to eat in, we chose the garden room. The staff were very friendly. The lemon and coconut scone was amazing, cooked fresh on site. Gave 4 out of 5 rating as the tea with our cream tea took a long time to arrive and the teapot leaked every pour. Lovely experience. Thank you.

The themed rooms were very quirky, we avoided the neon room as it was very dark and the moroccan-style room as there were only a few cushions available to sit on and chose to sit in the floral room with the swings. Would have been a nicer experience if there weren’t two children swinging manically next to our table. The staff were lovely however none of the tables had been cleared from previous visitors and our table was dirty when we were seated by the host - I cleaned the table myself using the surface cleaner and blue roll on the cart next to our table. The bagel with potatoes was nice however the pizza was very oily; the food was overpriced generally.

Was taken for afternoon tea on Mother’s Day. Was very disappointed. The cafe itself is really pretty. Would have liked more savoury than sweet. 3x quarter sandwiches, small tart, scone with jam and cream,5 tiny cakes, a macaroon. Yea or coffee. For£25 each very overpriced

This place was booked by another member of the group for a bottomless brunch, there was 7 of us in total. We were booked for bottomless brunch at 3:30pm, and had 90 minutes since then. Our first drink order wasn’t taken until 3:45, and it then took a further 15 minutes for the drinks to arrive. It took an exceptionally long time for the drinks to arrive, in 90 minutes we had 5 drinks each. For a bottomless brunch (especially at £35pp!) this is not good. The food was reasonable, pancakes were nice however it was not a big portion and we did end up eating again later after continuing on for drinks. The girl who worked there then told us they close at 5pm and that we would have to get ready to leave. I explained that we didn’t receive our drinks for half an hour into the bottomless brunch, however she continued to say this is the time they close. Maybe this place hasn’t quite grasped the concept of bottomless brunch, because I would not recommend it at all.

Used private room for bottomless brunch, too many people for the room. Guests hot, cramped and uncomfortable - luckily 3 guests didn’t attend. Venue shouldn’t have taken the booking. 1 bathroom to service the entire place, 23 people in our party Team members efficient and very friendly. Service was quick. Cocktails very good It’s a quirky place, the rainbow bagels are literally that - bagels with food coloring and standard ingredients The place is very well decorated and so unique, the team are great - but would advise against larger group bookings

Food was ok, but really expensive for the portion size - £9.50 for 3 small pancakes with a scoop of ice cream on top. I think we’ll try somewhere else next time.

Came here for brunch and was greeted by staff, who were warm, friendly and welcoming. We had 2 bagels with sides, waffles and 4 coffees, which with 15% NHS discount came to £35. Very reasonable for a brunch and the food was delicious! Would 100% recommend.

We booked in advance for All You Can Eat Waffles. The waffles were absolutely delicious and the girl serving us checked in regularly to make use of our time which was great. We both had a mocha which was nice but my partner also ordered a flat white which was extremely bitter. We chose the garden room and it was definitely cute for pictures, but the swings creak really loudly and we both ended up sitting on the bench seats to actually eat our food. The cafe was clean and well decorated, the staff were nice and the food was incredible. I would also add that as a plus-size lady (size 18) I struggled to get into my seat, and the swings were not even thought of for me. It’s a little cramped and I found it difficult to get into my seat. The toilet is also very tiny.

It's really easy to miss this little cafe but we're so glad we didn't. There are 3 themed rooms to choose from if you sit in to eat. We chose the Garden Room which is apparently the most popular. It was decorated with loads of flowers & each table had 2 swings hanging from the ceiling for seats. The food was freshly prepared & absolutely delicious, and prices for a city centre cafe are very reasonable. The selection of home made cakes is lovely & they can be taken away if you wish. Staff are friendly & helpful. A lovely & unusual cafe to visit in York.

Whilst the decor was pretty and the service was great, the food was just ok. Thought it was a bit pricey for the portion size. The kids meals were good value for money and the brownie was just delicious. I had the pancakes with the vegan sausage. Unique combination. My husband had the avo on a colourful bagel. This was also ok. The smoothies were nice and refreshing. If I do visit next time, it will be for a cup of tea and their cakes. These looked really good.

This place is different vibe , neon room to garden room , swings for seats was a lovely touch , food was good and drinks are out of the norm but all round really good experience, the only thing that lets this place down are the steep stairs

This afternoon tea was fantastic! The absolute highlight was the Cheese, Ham & English Wholegrain Mustard Puff Pastry Parcel. I enjoyed this so much I tried to buy one to bring home with me for my partner but they were only available to order I also loved the lavender latte, it was really creamy and unique. Would deffo get this again I can’t recommend this place enough, the decor is enough to make you visit in itself but the food and service tops it all off nicely Perfect place to take your mum for afternoon tea or bunch of gal pals for a brunch

Such an amazing place! Food was excellent and had the most amazing tea! Turmeric and chai tea! Also very instagrammable if you’re into that! There are rooms to pick from too! Just a lovely place! Would go back and recommend!

After an unexpectedly long sojourn in the near by York Minster, my wife and I needed a spot to sit and ponder all we had seen over a nice cuppa. Well, let me tell you… if the wonders of the Minster don’t do it for you, the sights and scents of Plush Cafe may well sing like choirs of angels for you instead. The food is certainly to die for and the atmosphere is as heavenly as it is funky. This easily missed amongst the noise and glamour of the big boys and girls down the street (and around the corner), Plush is a unique and wonderful experience that should be enjoyed by everyone at least once.
