We used the beautiful conservatory for a funeral. Lovely, peaceful room, ideal for the wake, When we called to book we got all the details of choice of menu's, and prices. We booked there and then.On the day of the funeral, we arrived to find everything set out ready, with tea and coffee, sandwiches, salad, sausage rolls, french fries, and scones with jam and clotted cream.Everything was perfect, plenty of food. The bar staff were really polite, everyone who attended commented how nice it was.

Not sure where to start, had a meal 2 weeks ago on Friday as we couldn`t get in at Spoons and here it was empty. Now I know why. After waiting for drinks for 10 minutes in an empty pub they came and said they have no Stella surely staff would be informed when beer runs out?Ordered apple juice and received some sort of sparkling appetizer, what was that?Another 10 minutes a waitress comes and says "they only have bits of the chicken for chicken supreme so they can use half different part of chicken"????? Had to change the order, never heard anything like it, food was Ok ish, my chocolate dessert had hair in it and waitress couldn`t care less. I was still charged for it!!!!!! Never again!

We had eaten here before and had a good meal, so when my Father in-law announced that he would like to eat out for Christmas we decided to give The Plough and Harrow a go.I have Coeliac Disease so have to be extremely careful, making sure I eat non gluten containing foods and when I booked I was assured that I would be able to have gluten free bread, stuffing, and Christmas pud, delicious.I had spoken to Vicky (The Manager) on a number of occasions and she was very helpful, if a little apologetic at the delay at our menus so that we could choose our meals. Eventually, however we received our menus and we put in our food orders. When we arrived everyone was friendly if a little rushed and we were seated very quickly. As the starters began to appear I was told that unfortunately they didn’t have a gluten free roll to go with my chicken liver pate and would I like salad with it instead, so I agreed to that. It arrived with a pile of limp lettuce which was a bit disappointing, I thought salad consisted of more than just lettuce. My Mother in-law enjoyed her lentil soup and my FIL and husband enjoyed their prawn and avocado salad. Our main meals were lovely, everyone else had the beef and I had the turkey, the vegetables were cooked beautifully and I enjoyed the potatoes. However, when I looked at the stuffing balls we all appeared to have the same and mine should have looked different and so I asked my husband to have mine. Within a couple of minutes the Manager came and Informed me that there might be a ‘little bit of gluten in the stuffing’. It either contains gluten or its gluten free, no inbetween so I’m glad I passed it over to the old man. Overall the main was pretty good and we were looking forward to our desserts. I’d ordered the gf Christmas pudding, which I was informed wasn’t available but I could have the roulade as they’d checked and it was gf. My MIL had the Festive Elton mess, which she said was vile and no one else in the room ate theirs either. She said it tasted sour as if it was ‘on the turn’. The chaps had a cheese board each and whilst my husbands was ok my FIL was very disappointed with his Stilton as it was all rind and as for the coffee and mince pies.... well they’d run out of coffee and the tea was stewed so we paid for our drinks and left for home. I don’t think we’ll bother again.

After visiting previously, we decided to return when seeing it was under new ownership. It was very quiet but knew company would be good. The menu is huge, maybe too much choice. I'm not vegetarian but opted for sweet potato burger. It was fabulous. Freshly made and delicately spiced. Presented on a board, which I know isn't everybody's favourite, a small criticism would be that it was a little tight for room. A suggestion maybe to lose the salad and provide more of the delicious homemade coleslaw. Another diner had the pork which was also delicious and the vegetables fresh. The highlight of the evening however was the homemade puddings. Such a lovely change from pre-bought. Not much choice but early days, likewise coffee was average but time for change to come. Overall, excellent home cooked food at a competitive cost. We will return

Visited tonight as a table of 12 and the food and service was shocking to say the least. We pre-ordered our meals and one meal was completely forgotten, our poor friend waited nearly half an hour for her meal, her pudding was also forgotten despite the fact we pre-ordered the food and wrote a list. There were obviously not enough staff as it took nearly 10 minutes for all of our tables food to arrive when service started.. some of us had nearly finished before others had even been given their meals. We were served by a obviously very stressed waiter who snapped at one of us when asked for more sauce as he was still giving food out. The food wasn’t the best and didn’t come as described on the menu, I ordered toad in the hole with black pepper mash and onion gravy, it wasn’t even toad in the hole it was just a very stale Yorkshire pudding with two very small sausages plopped on top of the mash and very watery plain gravy. Puddings arrived which again took forever for the whole table to get their orders, and cutlery wasn’t served until after. Waiting on staff didn’t come round to check everything was okay otherwise we would have spoken to someone about it then, the lady who’s meal was forgotten spoke to a lady as she paid who didn’t seem overly interested and offered her a petty 10% off her meal. We all won’t be returning.

Tried the plough and Harrow tonight after the big relaunch push. So disappointed. We got into the pub my wife ordered the drinks whilst I went to the gents only to find a guy doing coke whilst his two mates discussed how they were going to smash Cannock. We only popped in for drinks however there were older people having clearly a planned meal. I can only imagine the disappointment. The pub doesn’t seem to know what it wants to be lively loud bar or serious eatery. Unfortunately it doesn’t hark back to the glory of 10 years ago. I really wanted this to be great however with a bar fully of muscle/meatheads it’s not the most welcoming. This place could be great but desperately lacks discipline needed to mould it’s model. I fear a quick departure.

Although I enjoy visiting this pub the new owners do not give the right impression to clientele, the barman/chef needs to ensure his clothes are clean and not food all down them when serving drinks, also the bar staff dress sense of ripped jeans to the point they may as well not be worn is not what i call appropriate. Also for some reason they have stopped selling real ale which is a bit disappointing and when the wine runs out it seems they nip to the local garage to pick up a bottle or two....not really ideal apart from that the food is nice and do enjoy visiting. Come on Plough, sort yourselves out make it better.

My friend and I used to visit here on a weekly basis a few years back but after it changed hands last time we thought it went downhill. Since it changed hands again recently we thought we’d give it another go... if anything I think they have made the place even worse. The bar hasn’t changed at all but all the walls seemed to be completely plain and beige; I’ve no idea why you’d take all of the character out of a pub by having no decoration but that’s what they seem to have done. Another thing is when you sit in any of the one half of the pub you will stink of food cooking... the smell was overwhelming and covered all of our clothes in 10 minutes... not what you want at the start of your night out.

Lovely nice tables and comfortable chairs. Great impressive feeling inside. Food I had the Gammon Chips and Eggs. (The eggs were cooked to perfection ) the gammon was exceptional tasty. My wife ordered the cajon chicken and chips with salad. Chips and the chicken were great loosed down by the salad three small leafs of lettice. No tommarto or cummber or onion. I am a real ale fan there was a good selection of beers and largers on the pumps but I had to settle for my third choice due to the others were either not available or they had run out of them . Poor for a Friday night when I would have expected all advertised to be available. Clearly they are trying to get the place back to what it was. A top eating place. I have been to the Plough and Harrow on a number of occasions and have had very pleasant experiences. Sadly this was not one of those. After being seated (at a very 'sticky' table) and having a drinks brought to the table the waitress asked if we wanted to order. However she hadn't brought over any menus, not a great start. The three of us had the prawn cocktail to start which sadly was very disappointing. I've never had a prawn cocktail with cucumber and tomato in it, not necessary. The prawns were dry and there was way too much sauce, really unpleasant sadly. We all had a carvery for our mains. The potatoes were lovely! However the beef was very dry and tough and they had run out of carrots. We weren't provided with a second set of cutlery and so resorted to taking it from the nearest empty table as there were no staff around to ask for some. To finish off, our bill was wrong and we had been over charged for our mains, after querying it and having a new bill printed, it was still wrong the second time. Sadly it wasn't the Sunday lunch I was looking forward to. Hopefully this was a one off experience, but I think some work needs doing especially when it comes to the competence of the staff

I'd advise against anyone ordering stake as a good vet could have had it back on its feet. Had a nibble on a few chips paid the bill and left. I don't usually review but this one is a must. I would complain formally but I'm scared they would send me free meals. I'd advise either getting staff that can cook or stick to serving alcohol and that's the only thing I would recommend at the plough and harrow.

8 of us visited the Plough & Harrow on 8th December for their Christmas Fayre. The food was excellent and so much of it that the chef wrapped our mince pies for us to take home. Lovely atmosphere and very friendly people. Lookin forward to next year!

My husband and I spontaneously decoded to stop for lunch at the Plough and Harrow on our way back from christmas shopping during the week. It has been several years since we visited. The bar/restaurant was decorated really nicely, staff were really friendly and accommodating and the food was quite simply gorgeous. We will definitely be back. Top quality food and service

We've been to The Plough for a midweek meal several times recently. Staff are always friendly and we have been served efficiently. The food is cheap (about £8 for a main) but always delicious, especially the chips! The steak and ale pie is a winner too! Be prepared for a slight wait... The meals are prepared and cooked freshly, so I don't think that can be complained about! We'll be back again for sure.

Not been to 'The Plough and Harrow' in a good couple of months so went on Friday , the food was top notch and didn't take too long to come out, the cook was lovely. The person behind the bar looked very smart and was extremely helpful and polite. As for the pub the whole place looked like it had had a good spring clean with a lot of elbow grease usedWould happily go back again and recommend

Read the reviews for here so decided to try the sunday lunch, the food was nice, but I cant say it was the best we have had locally, the service however was very poor, we had to wait well over 40 mins to be served, think they could possibly need more staff .

Popped in on spec for a birthday meal. Given a table straight away. Drinks and food ordered. We waited about 30 mins for our starter, then a little more for our main course.Main course as fine, food was hot. Asked for one steak to be medium but it came out rare. As soon as my wife saw the blood in the steak, that was it.We finished up quickly , paid our bill and left.Must say our dogs enjoyed the left over meat.First time we had been since new owners moved in and we were a bit disappointed.Only one waitress which slowed down service. Will we go again? Probably, always enjoyed the food in the past and service may improve.

Arrived at 7pm and the restaurant was not that busy. Taken to our table and the food and drinks order was taken. The food took an hour to arrive. When it did arrive it was very good and way over the average "pub grub". It tasted freshly cooked and the portion size was perfect. The plates were cleared and we waited for the waitress to return with the pudding menu. We waited and waited and waited. After 45 minutes we gave up decided to ask for the bill. 15 minutes later we hadn't even set eyes on the waitress so decided to go to the bar so we could pay. Can't get over the fact that we sat there for an hour after our plates were cleared and we saw no one. Good food but terrible hosting. Wont be back in a hurry, sorry.

Since the new owners have taken over, the Plough is on the up. The food is basic simple pub grub, expertly prepared. For the first time in many years, the beer is properly kept. Nice to see the place busy again.

From ordering food to service was well over an hour. It is the same every time I go! They clearly don't employ enough staff. The waitress was very apologetic and I feel sorry for her. Food is typical pub food - nothing special!

Have not been to the Plough for over twelve months. I heard that there was new owners. So we gave it a try. Booked a table by phone. Food very good and reasonable size portions. The Cottage Pie was home made and piping hot ,lovely. The steak was tender and cooked to one's liking. I had the mixed grill. Great, but the amount of food was too much for me. I am a big eater. Service was good and efficient. The beer was good. Will certainly return. Cost pub average for the area. Dining is in the conservatory separate from the main area of the Pub. Although at busy times other parts are used

The staff are very friendly and quickly seated our party of 8 for Sunday lunch (pre booked). Drinks came very quickly and our order was took at the same time. We all had our dinner within 15 minutes and it was fab.I had the roast beef. It was served with carrots, cauliflour cheese, cabbage, peas, mashed carrot, mashed potatoes and nice thick gravy. I obviously had extra Yorkshire and stuffing. Finished off with a very tasty apple pie n crumble. We have had a few Sunday lunches at various restaurants and this was the best. I was that impressed we are going again next week!

Discussed options for Christening Party from midday on Sunday early in April 2016 agread a package to provide a buffet for up to 30 guesses which included exclusive use of the conservatory on the side of the venue. On the day everything was perfectly laid out and the food did not disappointed the staff popped in from time to time to tidy up and collect used plates and make sure everything was OKWould certainly recommend this venue for family events and private parties.

Visited today on the off chance as we were passing on a shopping trip. Lovely barman gave us a warm welcome and brought us menus. The food was " pub grub" but done superbly, not like the corporate Marstons across the road from our home. The menu warns of a slight wait due to all of the for being freshly prepared when ordered, but we didn't find the waiting time too long at all. The food was beautiful, the home cut chips were really nice. Along with the menu was a specials board with some lovely dishes and a good vegetarian selection. We will be returning soon, well done to landlord Jim and his team.

You could tell immediately that everything was home cooked and freshly made. The home made Yorkshire pudding practically filled the plate! The food was plentiful and tasty. What I loved most was that we were brought a gravy boat out for extra tastyness. Will definitely recommend to friends and family,...just never change the chef on a Sunday!!!!

Lovely pub, friendly staff and nice food. As a family had chicken tikka pizza which was home made tasty and very filling, Cajun chicken which was delicious and a kid's chicken nugget meal, followed by an orio ice cream which was devoured in seconds. We haven't been here since the new management but found it lovely, including the decor and will be returning often 😀......edit, it stopped serving food very quickly and has since closed in May 2024
