The young lady who greeted us on arrival, and was also our server, was lovely, and we felt confident that we would have a nice meal, and so it turned out.

En route to Sky we took a scenic overland side trip and by chance fell upon Plockton; a delightful seaside ;off the beaten track destination. What a pleasant surprise. We tried to eat lunch at the well regarded local hotel but had just missed the lunch period .(The adherence to these ridiculous protocols is most annoying). We decided to take a stroll along the gorgeous waterfront with its wonderful seaside vistas. We were also looking for a place to eat before we collapsed.Came upon the Plockton Shores restaurant.A lucky find Great congenial atmosphere good food and friendly service.

The Pier Cafe

06/11/2018: We stopped here on a cold and wet afternoon whilst travelling. What a treat, a lovely roaring fire, great view over the lake, well laid out cafe, friendly welcome and good food. Definitely worth a stop. They also have a nice gift shop.
17/02/2019: Visit here once every few months for lunch, most recently last weekend. Really can’t fault the place - we’ve been coming for years and not had a bad meal yet. The staff are always pleasant too which is refreshing. Recommend phoning ahead to book as it gets busy.

The Whitehouse

31/10/2018: I am not a fan of taster menus but the choices I made were all superb and the balance of flavors and tastes were perfect. The mussels to start with smoked fish served with seaweed in what was almost a cullen skink type broth was to die for. Next up salmon with a perfectly crisped and salty skin served with a scallop and smoked mussels was devine. loin of lamb followed again perfectly cooked and the fresh mint leaves just complimented it perfectly and I finished with a sweet of locally picked brambles made into various items. I loved every mouthful of this meal..... Nearly every ingredient sourced locally or grown in the garden. This is as good as it gets...
29/10/2018: Don't be put off by a somewhat unprepossessing exterior when visiting this restaurant. Inside it is beautifully decorated with natural colours and artefacts, all of which make for a relaxing space in which to enjoy the superb taster menu. Although a taster menu, you can have as man y courses as you wish and are not hungry at the end of it! The strength of the cooking lies in the original and interesting combinations of locally sourced ingredients - all of it beautifully presented. There were too many excellent small details to list here but of particular note was the terrine of smoked trout, haddock and slices of potato and the scallops, which were the best my partner had ever tasted. The pannacotta with cherries and chocolate covered Turkish delight squares was absolutely fantastic too. A gripe that has nothing to do with the restaurant but the laws in Scotland now is that one cannot even have one small glass of wine to accompany a meal if you are the driver. Nevertheless, if you are in Lochaline and want to enjoy really well conceived and delicious food, then when it reopens after the winter break in March/April, the Whitehouse is the place to go!
