Extremely affordable afternoon tea towards the coast in Newcastle (Tynemouth). Very cozy pub environment and kind staff. You get very, very much food + coffee for the money. If you want a slightly higher class of afternoon tea with high quality coffee, this is the place!

This review got 2 stars because the young lad serving us was very nice, but that's about it. Our table was very dirty, no one cleaned it throughout our visit and had about 8 customers worth of drink stains on it. We were given both the wrong food order and drink order. I can't speak for all their food, as looking at other services some of the food looks really nice but their lunchtime menu was very average. We had two of their sandwiches from the lunch menu, it was OK but not worth the price.

4.30 pm counted 10 + tables empty/vacant. Asked bar guy if we seat ourselves . Response “No, they’re all reserved”. No option to have a drink just to leave. Dogged a bullet I think had the most amazing Asian at Buddy lounge and much cleaner and grooving atmosphere.

We were very excited to try the New Menu and it did not disappoint! Obviously aware it’s the Summer Holidays and Tynemouth is always busy regardless, we were met with wonderful service at the bar before ordering our food. We had 4 people in our party and ordered separate dishes which were cooked to order and delivered in the perfect time we had to catch up with one another. The Chefs and Bar staff made us feel very welcome in asking if everything was satisfactory as they clearly care about what they do. The portion sizes are more than adequate for the price paid, we had to take some home! The homemade Orange Marmalade Loaf was absolutely gorgeous!! Will definitely recommend and can’t wait to come back and try the rest!

The waitress didn't wipe the table. He was sticky. Had to wait a very long time for food. Sandwich was ok, with the Cesar salad the lettuce leaves were pretty wilted and already brown and there was hardly any salad dressing on them. I wouldn't go there anymore.

Only people inside ordered Halloumi & Avocado Sandwich, A Chicken Caesar Salad, and a portion of fries for my grand daughter and a drink each, after 45 mins some other people came in for food, during the time we were waiting, the girl came and told us there was no brisket for the sandwich, she was told that was ok. 10 or 15 mins later she returned to say there was no Avocado, again she was told ok. About 45 mins after that making our wait over an hour I asked where our food was and was told it was coming now. The food that came was for the table of 4 who ordered long after us. So I caught the girl on her way back to the kitchen to ask why we hadn’t got our food yet the people who had just come in had. The response was “I know, I’m sorry there was a problem with the printer and your order didn’t go through, they’ve got it now” I said that’s not good enough to which she replied there was trouble with the printer, you can wait or go and I’ll take it off the bill. She started to walk away and said I’m not arguing with you, which I wasn’t. We decided to leave, we’d travelled a distance for my Grand-daughter to go on the beach. I went to pay for the 3 drinks at the bar and told the barmaid it’s terrible service, we shouldn’t even have to pay for the drinks, she removed them. What I want to know is if our order hadn’t gone through, how was she able to come out on 2 separate occasions to tell us they didn’t have some of the elements of the sandwich?

Had the most amazing birthday afternoon tea with friends. Excellent service and the most gorgeous food. Really well presented and lots for your money.

We went for breakfast on a Sunday morning. It was shortly after the advertised breakfast and the place was quiet. We were greeted and invited to take a seat; the staff were busy getting things ready. It was a longer than expected time before our order for coffee was taken, then about ten minutes later the waitress returned to take the food order and asked if we'd like any drinks, so we reminded her that we'd already ordered coffee, she came back to ask what toast -brown or white, and again to ask how we'd like the eggs, and again if I'd like any sauce with the roll ... anyway we ordered a full English breakfast and a bacon roll with extra egg. Coffees arrived after another 5 minutes and the food about 45 minutes after we arrived. The food was nice but unremarkable and the plates were half hot, half cold. There was no ketchup with the bacon roll as I had ordered, and the waitress was now busy taking orders from others as it was a sunny morning and a few customers were arriving to sit outside. She did return to ask how the food was, I had a mouthful of sandwich and my partner said that it was fine. The waitress was gone by the time I could speak, so I didn't get a chance to ask for the missing ketchup ... anyway it was a bit late by that point. The bacon was really very nice and the roll was pretty substantial. The full English was good, nice sausage, bacon, mushroom, beans, hash brown, toast, black pudding, eggs, and "confit" half tomato. I'm not convinced it wasn't just half a grilled salad tomato with some oil and herb. A quality vine tomato would have been better. Why do restaurants skimp on tomato? The waitress was very pleasant and tried very hard but the overall impression was that she'd just started the job and hadn't had adequate training. The kitchen didn't appear to be ready to serve at the advertised time as the food took so long. On leaving I was asked how the food was and I started to explain that it was ok but the experience was not great. The lady cleared the table and didn't seem interested in my response, so the review was necessary to tell you. At the price it could have been so much better.

In tynemouth last night for partners 50th birthday,had great night until i came here.ordered a strawberry daquiri cocktail ,when my friend brought it to our table i was disgusted as the glass wasnt even half full.never in my life have i had a cocktail like that u could of drank it in 2 mouth fulls.For the price u pay i complained to floor staff and all he said was ok .The staff in this place are not very helpful at all .will never return here and i will be telling other people of my experience here.Avoid .This is a picture of my untouched cocktail .Disgrace.

Looking at previous reviews I can see I’m not the first one to make this comment, the place is nice enough but the tall guy behind the bar with the reversed baseball cap need to learn some manners, or find another profession

Lovely place and we would return as food and drinks were really nice. No vegetarian menu available in the restaurant when I asked just a couple of vegan breakfast options. Staff were the reason for the lower stars. The pub wasn’t that busy yet everyone was racing around which made it feel disorganised and rushed, payment wasn’t straight forward, however the girl who took payment was lovely. On the way out we saw a member of staff who served us, we stopped to look at the good range of cakes on display, however she didn’t acknowledge us or say goodbye as we walked out. Food was so nice, just a shame about the unsettled atmosphere.

Had a really good meal a couple of years ago in this place but it hasnt been able to meet the standard since, despite us giving it a number of second chances. I wont be going back now though. Paid £18 today for a chicken kebab which consisted of stale pitta, cheap rubbery reformed chicken slices, a pile of salad leaves from a bag and pickled cabbage from a jar. No chips. Staff didnt even bother to ask if it was ok...i think they must know they are serving over-priced tripe. Great location and outside space but dead inside, and food / service not up to standard of adjacent venues. Waiter had nerve to look hurt when i didnt tip! Ok for a pint in the sun but nothing more.

This place was booked by a family member for ten adults with 1 young child and a baby in pram. We all arrived at different times within the booked time and the staff were brilliant. We ate inside as it was a cold breeze on the outside tables. The drinks arrived promptly followed by carafs of iced water and glasses. The menu was full and varied with all individual dietary needs met with very courteous and friendly staff. Everybody enjoyed their meals which were very tasty and well presented. Staff were attentive but not overly so and the atmosphere inside was lively with lots of customers. When we come up again to see family we will certainly book a breakfast or brunch here again.

Initially thought this bar looked nice for a quiet drink however the terribly rude bartender (slim, tall, cap on backwards) absolutely ruined any kind of pleasant experience here! A complete attitude problem. Other staff members need more adequate training also. If you are after a nice quiet drink I would recommend anywhere but here.

Nice food. Very poor service. It was a chore for the kids working there to serve us. I had the ordasity to interrupt the 5 of them chatting at the bar to ask of we could place an order. Had to go back to the bar to ask for cutlery then salt and pepper. Then again for a round of drinks, then again for the bill.. twice. Zero training been given in customer service and Easter sunday staff had zero interest in being there. Made a comment to a senior member of staff when leaving about the dreadful service and that was met with a blank expression. Have visited regular over past 20 years. Its gone downhill badly unfortunately.

we booked online for 12 oclock and it said brunch menu when i booked and also on a confirmation email, but when we arrived (5 minutes early) they said no brunch ends at 12. i said oh sorry it let me put that menu when i booked so i hadn’t realised. was then told by the lady: ill have to ask the kitchen. who then gave us a very poor attitude for the rest of the meal. slamming our cutlery down and huffing and puffing at us. ate our food feeling quite on edge and upset as she was clearly angry with us for choosing brunch, but then why is that an option on the website? food was ok, the portions were a little small. service was a bit slower than you’d expect considering it wasn’t too busy- had to ask twice for the bill. not sure if we’ll be back, just be aware if u book online for brunch you might be told you can’t have it even though it definitely says you can on the website😅

Did not have food but amazing place

My husband and I came with our daughter for Sunday lunch yesterday. My husband had the burger- he is a burger conissisuer and rated this one amongst the best he's tasted!! Daughter and I had the roast dinner- mine was an allergy to lemon chicken, which was no problem! It was juicy, succulent, beef just melted in your mouth. Yorkshire puddings were huge, didn't know whether to eat them or climb them!! Vegetables were beautifully cooked and seasoned, gravy full of flavour. But the star of the show were the roasties!! They were AMAZING!! Crispy and all fluffy inside. I honestly couldve just sat and ate a mountain of them with lashings of gravy, tho tbf then we would've missed out on the rest of the tasty dinner! Vicky, our host, was so friendly, nothing too much trouble. The whole experience was relaxed and chilled, no stress with worrying about my allergy. Was so stuffed we couldn't manage dessert, tho it looked so good we took a portion home for later lol... Will DEF be returning again very soon!!!.

Excellent gluten free full English breakfast and the vegetarian full English breakfast left me speechless. The vege sausage was unbelievable, a bit on the spicy side but I like hot food so really made it for me. Reasonably priced.

Came here Saturday 09/03 for afternoon tea and was blown away by the staff (not the wind) very accommodating we forgot to mention that we had a pram but the staff member (forgotten her name) was amazing and moved out table so we could sit comfy with the little one in the pram, and throughout the time here was always so friendly and greeted with a smile,, all staff were lovely even after a little mistake of taken out unfinished drinks away they were quick to replace and the afternoon tea amazing presentation and taste was great and defo plenty to share also ( loved the board it came on rather than the stands ) I have recommended all our friends and family over the weekend and there are a few of us booking to come back,, thank you for making a current difficult time for our family amazing for a first Mother’s Day suprise thank you so much again

Booked afternoon tea for a Mother’s Day treat. We all had a lovely time, staff really helpful and friendly. Plenty of lovely fresh food. With one stand of sandwiches, sausage rolls, scones, cakes and a bottle of Prosecco between two of us. Some of us couldn’t drink the Prosecco that was included, so they gave us pots of tea instead, with no extra charge and let us take the bottle home. Would definitely recommend going and we’ll definitely be returning.

Went for Mothers Day lunch. Kitchen had just opened and it was wonderful. Food was excellent and staff were great. Lovely atmosphere. Highly recommended.

Lovely and friendly with low lighting to feel relaxed and comfortable. Staff helpful and attentive. Was here for a birthday treat afternoon tea. I couldn't drink the prosecco as was driving so they kept it cold for me to take home. Food was delicious, fresh and filled us up. Happy bellies 😀

I was taken by my family for afternoon tea with Prosecco.The pub was clean and welcoming,greeted by a very friendly member of staff.The food was served promptly,a good selection of savouries and sweets and the Prosecco was very refreshing served over fruit.The best afternoon tea i had and reasonably priced, thoroughly recommended.

What can I say. What a lovely trip we had. Booked afternoon tea to celebrate my mam’s birthday. We were lucky enough to have been given the snug area to ourselves. Which was perfect for our group as we had a toddler with us. The staff were great, nothing was a problem and were so friendly and accommodating. We were served our afternoon tea which was fabulous. Could not fault it at all and would recommend to all. Can’t wait for my next visit.

Bar tender was arrogant and served others before me despite knowing me and others had been there earlier. The bar wasnt that busy and when questioned became abusive and refused to serve me despite being in the wrong (power trip much?) I will never use this chain again due to his attitude

Not much to say, it has a good range of drinks, looks nice on the inside, but its just another sanatised pub in tynemouth thats lost what makes it special. Does the job.

Nice surroundings and very pleasant service. Coffee good and pastries tasty. Puzzling thing is the selection of food which is slender, no comparison with its local counterparts. There has to be a reason for this as it is surrounded by hot food outlets which will invariably scoop the trade if this particular location doesn’t compete. Such a nice place, let’s hope it rises to the occasion.

On a Friday night, the staff at the bar (in Tynemouth) were all talking amongst themselves, looking at any punter at the bar as if they were interfering with their conversation. I stood waiting for ages, watching the staff ignore me. When I finally gave my partner a shrug, who was sat at a table nearby, the staff reluctantly came to serve me. I got attitude and arrogance. Not what I go out to spend my money on - I would rather go where they actually appreciated the business.

Busy Sunday morning, everywhere else was heaving so we were pleased to find tranquility here. And a complementary plate of cakes with our coffees. A port in a storm for these Southerners!

Didn't have food but the atmosphere was good. Very knowledgeable staff who make very good cocktails. Decent array of beer and more spirits than you can shake a stick at. Personally it was a touch too loud, could barely hear my friend sat right next to me, but other than that the ambience was good.

Fish and chips were amazing and the gluten free you can't tell the difference

First time here today with my wife for afternoon tea with prosecco using a voucher given to me by my daughter for my birthday. It was so nice and possibly the best afternoon tea we've had. The young lady who looked after us was really lovely and a real credit to the place, overall was a great experience and can highly recommend.

My daughter took me for afternoon tea on 15/09/23 we were immediately told kitchen was closed & food had been brought in. I found the whole afternoon tea very poor quality from the sandwiches to the cakes not good value at all

Never going back. Unfriendly welcome. The staff were so slow and when I complained the drinks came at different times and one drink didn’t arrive at all - she said they had been really busy. We were the only ones in apart from another couple and their dog. She wasn’t apologetic at all, so we left. Never returning .

First impressions were it looked like a lovely place to stop for a coffee and snack. After a short while the waitress took our order, two coffees and one fruit and one cream scone. Our coffee arrived without food and following a ten minute wait the waitress came and said there was only one fruit scone left which she brought, so I ordered a cheese in place of the cream one . Following a further wait of fifteen more minutes I went to chase up my scone and was told it would be out soon. By now both our drinks were finished and still no scone . We left after being offered free coffees but left and will not go back .

Honestly I was incredibly disappointed with the state of the food. Over cooked mussels, over cooked prawns, stale chips and very bland lamb bonbons. Not worth the time or money in my opinion. Service was great until the sour face started her shift.

Got a voucher for a presecco afternoon tea. Absolutely fantastic, the food was outstanding. Wasn't able to all the cakes was given a box to take the rest of them home. The staff were so friendly and helpful and couldn't do enough for you. Nothing was a bother. Have a good selection of cocktails. Will definitely be back and would highly recommend this place.

Very pricey and not a great range in menu. Enjoyed the venue itself but just felt like something was missing.

Very poor Sunday breakfast experience. Place practically empty but waited over 40 mins for a full cooked breakfast. Bacon and sausages clearly not cooked properly- (sausage looked as white as a ghost), missing items and tomatoes tasted of mould. Staff gave a vague impression that they cared but glaring/dangerous errors. Walked out without paying for food for the first time in my life. Will not be back

Came for brunch on a sunny day in tynemouth, sat outside under the shade and ordered a full English and eggs Royale with a oat latte and a tea for one (which squeezes out 3 full brews). Came to 24 quid. Food was lovely. Staff were brilliant even though it was really busy and there was only 2 of them. Georgia and her colleague managed well. Lovely spot to watch the world go by with some nice food. Also the toilets were very clean and interior is nice too.

Nice enough bar, table clearing is a bit slow. The place wasn't busy and walked past the comfy seats and the table was covered in plates and glasses. I went to the bar, ordered and took time getting sorted. Walked back and the table was still in serviced. I cleared it myself. Staff are friendly and the place is well maintained nice place to drop into if your in the area.

Lovely atmosphere and the food was gorgeous. The staff here are always really friendly, relaxed and very helpful. I originally give this review a 5* rating. However about a week later we returned for Sunday morning breakfast - the service was horrendous and not because they were busy - the staff outnumbered the customers. I ordered drinks and food at the bar after having to get my own menu, which is usually brought to the table. We then had to go back to the bar to get the drinks order. After waiting 45 minutes for the food to arrive I had to send mine back as it was cold. On its return I was advised it was a new breakfast, this was untrue, the same eggs were brought back, I then had to go and get new cutlery. The bar staff were told twice that we noticed to serve a customer at the bar by the manager. We were regulars here last summer, will not rush back this year.

After having a bad lunch experience at Xmas time decided to go for a Saturday night drink as DJ is on and music good. A pint of Guiness and large glass of white wine was over £15 . Had same in different bars in Tynemouth...

Only got food when we complained about the time taken - food was well below average. Won’t be going again and certainly would not recommend.

I was very surprised how big this place was when I walked in. Good staff, good choice of draught beers and nice comfy seating in the window. I will be back on my next visit to the area for sure.

First and last ever visit today. Sunday morning and it wasn't busy yet after 25 minutes of waiting we were still waiting for just two coffees !Thank goodness we didn't order food. No customer service skills at all, staff really didnt seem bothered .Even to be notified on ordering that there was a delay would have been nice and explained (which would have been fine ) We gave up , asked for a refund and went elsewhere . Not even an apology. Very disappointing , sorry wouldn't recommend ☹️
