What an amazing find this place was. We were surprised it was full on a Tuesday evening but after tasting the brilliant food we could see why. The decor, service and atmosphere complemented the food making for a first class meal.

I've tried Platform 1864 a few times now due to working in the area and it's been consistently excellent. The menu is great with plenty of choice and they also have dailly specials. It is a little bit expensive but the portions are generous and the food is high quality. Service is also excellent every time

No real ale. Only Skye Blond, bloody expensive at £6.50 a bottle. Guinness close to £7! Other pubs in Taine Guinness is £4.50.

Great, everything we ordered was great, fast service, pub for before or after the meal is also recommended. The hut was full, only a few tourists.

Good place to go for drinks. Plenty of different beers to choose from. The bar area is a nice place. Food on the other hand is pretty average. The portions are quite small and food pretty bland. It’s a shame the vegan burger has been taken off the menu. I recommend going here for drinks, but there are probably better places for food.

Great experience , 12 people and 3 dogs , the staff and owners couldn't do anymore to accommodate us at very short notice . Fantastic decor throughout , very clean and tidy . The haddock was absolutely delicious and a good size serving. The owner gave us some history about the 1864 which was very interesting. Would definitely eat here agin and highly recommend.

Positives: clean; nice atmosphere; friendly staff. Negatives: never asked me how I wanted burger cooked. It was over done. Definitely not worth 19 pounds. Also, is it a Scottish thing that I have to flag down the staff every time I want another beer and also the check? Average experience overall.

Lovely meal here tonight. The food is excellent and staff so friendly and welcoming. Whilst finishing my meal with coffee I realised I was missing my Mum's ring. The staff were so kind, moving seating to help hunt (found in the car later!).

Lovely place for a meal, really comfortable vibe. Great menu , nice choices and the staff were attentive and friendly. We asked about GF and onion free options and our server went and checked with the Chef and came back with loads of options . They have a separate frier for deep frying and sauces and sides could be made to order. Really terrific service. There was a wee wait for our food but if its being cooked fresh to order that is quite acceptable. Would definitely recommend a visit 👌

Came with wife for lunch. Tuna melt toasties. Toasted one side, the tuna was cold in the middle. Ordered cheese fries which they forgot. Asked again, they arrived in a hurry raw and cold in the centre. The bloke who is the owner asked if all was ok. Said we didn't want a fuss but pointed out the problem. He was smiling apilogetic and said the kitchen needed to know. As we left he waved and seemed to be more interested In playing darts with his mates. We ran a five star bed and breakfast for 12 years. We would have appreciated not to have paid the full amount. We would have declined and voted with our feet. We are in Store house of Foulis. Brilliant 5 star !! Perhaps you should nip down the road and see how it's done. Sorry for this post but you need to do better. Oh forgot to say. Storehouse for similar was £21.60 .... yours charged £41.60 !!!!

Always a great place for something to eat. We use it regularly now on our travels from Orkney when going South. Definitely recommend!

Really looked forward to a meal at this establishment. Ordered a prawn salad as a main as it was only available as a starter. When I asked for this the waitress was very accommodating, I also ordered chips with this. I was asked did I want the starter size or a larger size, I asked for a larger main portion and my friend asked for the starter size. Both arrived with very little difference in portions, my plate was less than half full of lettuce, a few pieces of tomatoes and a smallish portion of prawns, the chips came separate in a metal cup. The total of this miserable prawn salad and chips that didn’t even cover a plate was £30.95. We did mentioned this when paying but did not receive a be pleasant response, very disappointed ☹️

I searched for this restaurant when I was hungry while traveling from London to Scotland. The food is okay in all respects. It's said to have been made by remodeling a train platform. It's a pretty restaurant in a pretty neighborhood. A place to eat on the way up

1 night stay in Tain, didnt think much to the town itself but really enjoyed our dinner here. We booked in advance and were pre-warned about live music that evening. Atmosphere was great. Really good selection of drinks available. Good choices on the food menu and specials available. Would thoroughly recommend

A fantastic local family owned restaurant ,.restored from the towns old train station, steeped in history and a labour of love, stunning both inside and out. A very friendly team look after you from the moment step through the door and the food is to die for, superbly prepared and presented, the well stocked bar looks fantastic, and serves a vast array of locally produced beers, spirits and cocktails.. We look forward to our next visit..

We finally managed to find the place open as we passed. The venue is beautiful and located by Tain train station. The staff were friendly and helpful. Very good breakfast. Super recommended.

A fairly snug environment, with a dimly lit, cosy atmosphere. Service was astounding and the food was first class. Well worth a drive to get to. Ample parking out front. Plenty of space inside (and out for when the weather is better) worthy of a special occasion (Such as our wedding anniversary)

Really enjoyable meal here on a Friday lunchtime. The lunch menu starts at noon so had to wait 10 minutes to get this menu. The place was very quiet but a few other customers did arrive close to us leaving. Very good friendly service. The food was tasty and well prepared. The Apple Crumble was excellent. Extensive cocktail menu including cocktails.

We were staying in the area so visited this place for some dinner on a Saturday evening. They didn't mind that we were early for our reservation and we received very good service throughout. I ordered the chicken goujons, but unfortunately, they were quite tasteless despite being in beer batter. Thankfully, I had bbq sauce to dip them into. The fries,coleslaw, and salad were nice, though. It was a pleasant experience, but at over £50 for 2 people for 1 course, we won't be repeating it again.

Modernly furnished, a bit cool in the back area, but definitely one of the best restaurants in town.

I dined at Platform 1864 with my partner and, unfortunately, it left much to be desired. In all honesty we don’t really understand where all these 5 stars reviews come from. And we agree with the ones that say that the restaurant is just average and too expensive for what is capable to offer. The location itself lacked any distinctive personality or charm. The restaurant is located in Tain's former railway station but it doesn’t necessarily mean cool. It’s just a restaurant near a train station in an area where there isn’t much else. The whole experience felt pretty forgettable. The menu, while offering a standard and generic British selection of dishes that ailed to stand out in any meaningful way is far from being special or at least original. The food was average at best, lacking the depth of flavor or creativity you'd expect for the prices they charge. Speaking of which, they were noticeably above average, especially when considering both the quality of the food and the rather uninspired location. If you offer a risotto for more than £21 you better make sure that is the best in the world. The burger was quite a letdown. The patty was dry, lacking the juiciness and flavour. To make things worse, the bread looked cheap, falling apart after the first bite. It did nothing to complement the burger, and the overall experience was bland and unsatisfying. For the price, we expected much better quality. Unfortunately, this burger missed the mark completely. My girlfriend was really looking forward to trying the sticky toffee pudding, but unfortunately, it didn’t live up to expectations. The dessert came out partially burnt, which completely overpowered the sweet, rich flavors it’s supposed to have. The texture was also off—drier than it should be, and lacking that moist, gooey goodness you'd expect from a proper sticky toffee pudding. It was also served literally with half strawberry (with the leaves still on it) cut in half and a small raspberry. It wasn’t the worst we’ve had, but certainly not the best either. A real letdown, especially since it’s such a classic dessert at £8.50. The service was equally underwhelming. The staff seemed disengaged and inattentive, which took away from the overall dining experience. For the first time in a while nobody asked us if everything was alright. I asked for a coffee that never showed up until I asked for it a second time to a different waitress. I wasn’t expecting to have it removed from the bill but it could have been an act of kindness from the staff. I mean not the worst experience ever but sadly, this is not a place I would rush back to and in all honesty I won’t even recommend to colleagues or friends. It’s just an expensive place that offers standard pub food.

The Breakfast was delicious and presented beautifully. I could go as far as saying that this was the most enjoyable breakfast I've had. The haggis and Tattie Scone were delicious. Highly recommend if you're in this neck of the woods! 5 🌟

Absolutely love this place. The way it has been done is welcoming and relaxing. Graham and all of his staff are friendly and welcoming. The food is amazingly good. We've visited a number of times since moving to Tain 3 months ago, sometimes with friends who were visiting and they love it too. They are always happy to adapt the menu to our veggie tastes. I strongly recommend visiting for a meal or just a drink.

After a tired day of driving it was great to get a table here. Called ahead about 30 min prior and they fit us in. The food was delicious. Seafood chowder is a must. Roast rump with a yorkie my wife and I split and they put into 2 separate plates. Highly recommended. Very happy with this place !!!

The location looked promising and so did the menu. But unfortunately it was no longer possible to get in at 8.35pm, as the kitchen was apparently already closed at that time. The fact that four service staff were standing around with nothing to do and the restaurant was still full didn't seem to matter. This business must be doing fantastically well if it can afford such behaviour. Alternatively, they could also offer a limited selection of quick meals and be customer-friendly.

Very nice place located in I'll station buildings. Busy when we were there and there was a shirt wait for our table. Burgers were OK. My wife had a dish from the specials menu that she said was excellent.

What a corker of a place, super decor and ambience, lots of space and the food, oh my god sublime great choice of Gluten Free options I had the scampi and the other had halibut in a white sauce, absolutely divine.

Top. Super nice service, water for the dog. Ribeye steak great, to the point. And extremely tasty too. If I were to be here again... I'd be happy to do so again at any time.

Nipped in for a last minute lunch and enjoyed the comfortable covered patio space. Very attentive and kind servers. The Haggis Bombs were a great first time eating proper haggis, and the sticky toffee pudding was delicious. Appreciated the affordable lunch sandwich (/toastie/panini) options.

Very popular in the evening, I was glad we had booked. Staff went out of their way to provide vegan food and adapted the menu. I had a tomato and basil risotto and my partner sausage and mash. There was a lovely side salad that went with the risotto.

I stopped for a while during my journey to the north of Scotland. The dog-friendly restaurant, great service and the proximity of the park where my dog ​​could run made me very happy.

Have been here a few times and seems to be a hit or a miss. Enjoy the cocktails but we ordered cocktail trees which said we could get certain cocktails but then we were told on the night (at the time there was only 3 tables in) that they’d be too busy to do certain cocktails on it which is a shame. We enjoyed our starters but they were quite small, enjoyed the mains but had bread and butter pudding but had to put it back as we couldn’t get our fork through it unfortunately.

We booked in for dinner on a reasonably quiet evening and felt we were crammed in to a tight corner with 2 other tables where we could hear every word of their conversations. There were very many free tables available and probably should have asked to move. The food was fine but not exceptional

What you can do with an old train station and still have a pub. An enterprising boss, an attentive waiter, an extensive menu and everything in good quality. Fits!

Great recommendation from our tour guide at Glenmorangie - wonderful little pub and kitchen just a short drive from the distillery. Good selection of draughts and food. Lemon drizzle cake was fantastic!

Just dropped in on an impromptu visit. A warm welcome, lovely decor and service was top notch. We had 3 courses, each with every one beautifully presented and tasting even better. Our 2 Golden Retrievers Ollie & Inver were made very welcome too, and petted by everyone. We will certainly be back…..every course being served by the kitchen looked absolutely fabulous. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Lovely inside with wonderfully attentive (but not overly so) staff. The menus had something for everyone and the 3 of us all took from the al la cartè and were all very happy, particularly my son with his braised beef I think it was. We were even more so with our desserts, especially the sticky toffee pudding. We'll definitely e back. I recommend booking as it quickly started to fill around 6.

Stopped for a pint, but once we saw they had some vegan options, we decided to stay for dinner. Can thoroughly recommend the 'homemade vegan burger'!
