Hot Roast Company in Highland

I hope while this establishment is closed over winter the owner of this shop takes herself and some of her staff on a customer service course. I arrived at the shop on a work related matter and while there ordered a take away coffee. The welcome was frosty, a dour stare rather than a smile and a “good morning”. The coffee was very hot (the only positive) but very bitter. A few days later the owner contacted me and left a series of abusive voicemails and text messages on my mobile phone. I tried to explain to her that the matter she was complaining about had nothing to do with me in my work capacity but she insisted on screaming down the phone and hanging up when I tried to help. Note another reviewer has commented on the slamming down of the phone which she denies. This owner has absolutely no professionalism about her. I expect her business is successful due to location and one off customers (tourism). The lack of pleasantries to customers is a clear indication that they think everyone crossing the threshold won’t be back. I certainly won’t. Update: I expected this blameless and buck passing response from you. It’s a pity google review doesn’t allow voicemails and texts to be posted so I can show your abuse. Calling me a rocket because I stood up to your behaviour. You’re a disgrace. I wasn’t unprofessional in my responses I was merely pointing out that I wasn’t the contact for your complaint but you insisted on screaming at me. And I did buy coffee so I am reviewing you as a customer and my experience thereafter. Everyone in any capacity is a potential customer.

I had lovely hot roast sandwiches great price and even made a bowl for the dog to enjoy great service and friendly staff will be back again in the future when visiting town.Highly recommended.

If you want a quick and affordable lunch, this is for you. Excellent sandwiches served with meat and sauces, to take and eat near the sea.

Best fast food in the high street- clean and well present hot toast rolls with choice of sauces in a white roll. Would prefer a brown roll option and crusty rolls/baguette as an option for bigger sizes offerings for the Hungary. Hot and cold drink offerings with inside and outside seating. Great service and friendly. Easy access on the flat. Would definitely recommend. Please like if this helped.

Thought we would try this for a snack before visiting the cinema. Choice of roast meats in a bap. We opted for the pork and apple sauce, with coffee and a cake afterwards. Bit cramped if you stay in, and the pork was a bit fatty for my liking. Service was good and prompt.

Stopped for a quick bite on our way to Inverness. The sandwiches and soup were all homemade and delicious. We had the turkey and the pork and both were perfect. The soup was lentil and delicious. Would definitely recommend to stop for a sandwich!

Stopped into Fort William on the way to Eilean Donan castle & the name grabbed our attention as we wandered through the shops . I had beef & horseradish & my husband had Turkey & cranberry & they were delicious . Great concept & we’ll def drop by in future .

What a find!!!! This place is amazing!!! Had the pork and apple, the roast beef and horseradish. It is like having a Thanksgiving dinner on a homemade roll, FANTASTIC!!! It’s a very simple menu which is perfect. We ate here twice and had our food on the table in less than a minute. Extremely friendly staff. I cannot say enough good things about The Hot Roast Company.

Food was delicious, beef and turkey rolls, meat was cooked to perfection. Lemon cake was gorgeous and staff were lovely too. Will definitely call again

Delicious, quick, and inexpensive. I paid around $7 USD for a pork sandwich, then walked along the lake with it. It was the first thing I did after arriving in Fort William and it was delicious and convenient

We only grabbed coffee here but the food looked amazing and the coffee was great and the team working there so lovely and helpful. They also do Soy and Oat milk, which we have struggled to find so far in Fort William. I’d definitely recommend stopping by.

Very friendly proprietor at a small but comfortable shop. Food promptly and deliciously prepared. Turkey was excellent!

Staff were friendly and helped explain the menu. We order a pork and a beef roll, neither were hot and both were incredibly dry. Some hot gravy would have helped A LOT. Roast veggies tasted of vinegar and not enjoyable at all. For the money we expected better

We stopped here on a pit stop whilst travelling through and boy are we glad we did. Under new ownership they are as good if not better than the previous owners. The wife and I opted for a roast pork roll with apple sauce. The rolls came over with very succulent meat cooked to perfection. Every mouthful was bursting with flavour with a generous filling. The wife went for a wander whilst I finished off. The manageress came over with a slice of victoria sponge on the house as the home baking would go off before their next opening day. It was very light and moist with a strong homebaked flavour. I would definetely sample their homebaking next visit. The service was what you would expect and they were very corteous and considerate. We will definetely return and would recommend this establishment to anyone.

Stopped off in Fort William after several hours on the motorbike. Had been dreaming of sitting down somewhere cosy and welcoming for a good meal before heading home again. Started walking down the street and came across this place and as a menu it won me over as roast meats and sandwiches are both my favourite foods! Went in to be met by a sign asking me to wait to be seen. It is a very small place. 2 women behind the counter, 1 older, 1 younger. Neither acknowledged me for good few minutes while I waited despite my trying to make eye contact and offer a cheery smile. Eventually gave up waiting and asked if I could sit down given the few available tables inside were only occupied by one other couple. Of the foods on offer they had sold out of my first choice of meat and also baguettes, was nearly 2pm so guess after the main lunch time. Ordered ham roll with a coffee and side of coleslaw. Roll was nice enough, served plenty quick enough. Coleslaw very nice. Coffee was really weak. My main issue was just the friendliness of the staff. Would it hurt to acknowledge a customer entering the shop with a quick "hello, we'll be with you in a minute" . Watched the same scenario play out with another customer while I ate too. He actually gave up and just left! Also when paying felt I was overcharged by about £3. Probably should have quibbled this but just didn't feel it was worth the hassle. Finally, toilets although not exactly dirty were just a bit dingy. Wish I had looked harder and gone somewhere nicer.

Wanted coffee & cake, about to enter Costa but decided to give our money to local cafe opposite. Big mistake. Ordered carrot cake, latte & cappuccino. Cake was very dry which really shouldn't be unless over baked or lying out too long. Cappuccino was weak & tasted like coffee flavoured hot milk & latte just like hot milk. Although not mentioned on our arrival, it was evident after given our drinks the cafe was closing as staff tidied items away & their coats were thrown onto seats next to us. Couldn't eat the cake it was dreadful & left the coffees. On taking our £6.85, no enquiry if enjoyed our drinks n cake despite all lying practically untouched on table. I am not shy & would've given verbal feedback if asked but staff just weren't interested. Extremely disappointed if this how foreign tourists experience Scottish hospitality. Not a good advert.

I had a hot turkey, stuffing and cranberry roll, with a mug of almost certainly homemade cauliflower and broccoli soup to takeaway as part of a special lunch deal for less than a fiver. The roll was generously filled, although there were only white baps available at the time I was there (about 1pm). The soup was excellent. Service can be a little slow, leading to queues onto the pavement.

Simple tasty and reasonably priced food fine really well. Right in the middle of the town this place is very good. Freshly cooked roast meats put into fresh bread rolls. You just can't go wrong. Their potato salad is v good as well

I had the roast pork which was excellent. My husband had the burger and it was a bit dry. The soup was also great. Good value and quick service.

DO NOT VISIT The service was lacking any welcome or interest in my custom.The breakfast was already made in the window area however it took along time to be served.When the breakfast was finally served it was cold.I ordered toast and beans with extra cheese, the beans were cold, there was not enough butter to go with the toast and the cheese was just two slices of cold plastic cheese.The coffee was cold and finished by the time the breakfast was bothered to be served.All I’m all AVOID this place as there are better places in Fort William DREADFUL PLACE

On entry said not all breakfast items available (fair enough) but had to get up and peer to see what was left voukd not tell us at the table. A bit if bacon and sausage left Kids had sandwiches which were very small. Wifes teacake was black and burnt and she left it. . My pork roll tiny and salad old. On way out staff sat eating a plate full of bacon so not quite out of everything. Did not mutter more than 2 words while we were there. Felt like our presence was an inconvenience. Poor value

Very rude to tourists... They had no desire to really serve us. Coffee was weak and watery and breakfast was served on side plates. Eggs were like rubber and hash browns were grey... Not a great start at all.

A simple concept, unpretentious cafe but lets the food sell itself in the window. Efficient service, excellent hot roast rolls and range of cakes etc to compliment. Cannot fault.

Había planeado comenzar el día con un delicioso desayuno. Café se ve bien desde el exterior. Sin embargo, estaba lloviendo mucho y el café abrió tarde. Cuando finalmente abrieron, nos dijeron muy groseramente que esperáramos afuera. Las medidas de seguridad de Covid no son una excusa para un mal servicio al cliente. Renunció y fue al muy buen restaurante de estilo americano a lo largo de la carretera.

Had the pork salad, limited portion size and no seasoning, salad was browning, delivered with indifference. My wife had a roll which was stale. Really disappointing. Need to take some pride in preparing food and hosting.

Me reprendió por tocar la bolsita de ketchup con un tono condescendiente: "¡No puedes tocar eso!". No había ninguna señal de que no pudiera tocar las carteras. Me disculpé y pregunté "¿Es solo para comer?". Ella dio la misma respuesta y miró hacia otro lado. La experiencia arruinó toda la comida. Tan hospitalario y despectivo.

Stopped here to grab a tea, write a postcard, and pick up some rolls to take on the train to Glenfinnan/Mallaig. Well priced, high quality rolls, a little different from your regular hot roll/bakery/cafe fare.

The owner of this place is straight up rude, almost zero people skills and the poor person who works for her is obviously scared of her, I hate to think how the owner treats her. The food was ok, but the dining experience was ruined initially by the owner being very rude, followed by overhearing her continuing to be rude to other customers who came into the store. Will not be visiting this place again.

Everywhere else was closed but we thought how bad could it be. Bad! Rude staff, terrible bitter weak coffee. So bad we both threw it in the bin.

The breakfast was like a dog dinner everything piled on top try was to small it should have been a bigger try tost was cold the only thing was good was the cold Pepsi that was in a bottle

Entré a tomar una copa y un butty. A pesar de que solo había panecillos blancos, el rollo de salsa de manzana y cerdo era encantador. El servicio fue rápido y eficiente, pero no el más acogedor; como comida para llevar, vale la pena ir, pero hay muchos otros lugares que sospecho que serán más acogedores en Fort William.

A very good little cafe with very good staff,the food was first rate,fairly priced and well presented. The boss lady should wear high heels to make cleaning the window easier. Definitely well worth a visit.

The staff are wonderful in this shop, so friendly, chatty and welcoming. The food is delicious, freshly made and very satisfying. The prices are very reasonable and you get a lot of bang for your buck in this cafe. I can't wait to visit again so I can drop in for some delicious, hot, roasted meats. A must visit if you are heading into Fort William.

Delicious lunch. Staff very accommodating we arrived while they were nearly closing and they allowed us in and we took the best ham roast sandwich. A must to go.

Always fresh and tasty food. Soup and a filled roll is excellent value. They have hot roast pork, ham, turkey etc etc.

This was a return visit for the wife and I. We dropped in for lunch. We opted for the soup and roll combo. It was tomato and basil. It had a distinctive home made flavour. To follow we had rolls on roast pork and apple sauce. The meat was melt in the mouth and full of flavour. The wife had Decaf tea and I had a strawberry milkshake and a diet irn bru. To finish I had a piece of millionaires shortbread. Would not hesitate to recommend to anyone and will return.

Je n'ai jamais vu un service aussi catastrophique et un personnel aussi désagrèable !Ces demoiselles ne répondaient même plus aux clients tellement elles étaient débordées mais je pense, surtout très mal organisées vu le nombre de tables. Elles ignoraient totalement les clients quand ils s'adressaient à elles ou alors elles levaient les yeux au ciel... Les WC et la cuisine se trouvent au sous sol, mieux vaut ne pas regarder la propreté des sols.

We opted for the hot rolls with some salad and sat outside in the sun. Can't fault the food it was yum but beware of wasps on hot summer days they won't leave you alone so sit inside if you can..

We almost went in Costa Coffee across the road but spotted this and very pleased we did. Good value and great service. Had the hot pork and apple (and stuffing) roll which really could not be beaten. Would certainly recommend it.

This place is located towards the end of the high street and good for people watching whilst having a meal. We were in for breakfast and it was peaceful. Our food order was taken quick and served just as quick. If there's no space to sit, as there were only a few tables, take-away is also available.

We had a hot Turkey roll, which was okay, but would have been nicer if the quality of the bread had been better, I never saw anyone using gloves when making the rolls and money was being handled too. The metal stairway down to the toilets could do with a clean too. We wouldn't go back

Stopped in here last year, hence the revisit and once again not disappointed in the food, service or prices. If you don’t visit here you’ll miss out on some tasty food and plenty of it. I will visit again.

Nunca mencioné la sopa casera, también es excepcional. El servicio es, muy amable y acogedor. . En general, cuando en Fort William no puedo imaginar ir a ningún otro lugar.

Hay muchos lugares para almorzar en Fort William, pero esto resultó ser el boleto. Un tazón de sopa y un bollo de cerdo, manzana y relleno por menos de 6. Seguramente una sabrosa ganga? Sin duda lo recomiendo para una buena relación calidad-precio y un sabroso bocado para comer.

A small cafe with excellent food and very friendly efficient staff. Would highly recommend a visit. My cousin and I visited here on Saturday 27 April 2019. A very pleasant young girl served us. Didn't catch her name but she was lovely.

Spotted this Cafe after getting off a boat trip on the Loch. We were cold and it was a perfect choice. We had a Hot Roll Meal deal with soup which was delicious. A choice of Pork, Turkey or Ham and a bowl of steaming hot soup all for £5.95 each - perfect. We ate in but you can take away also. Would Definitely recommend.

Went here for breakfast and had scrambled eggs (which were cooked in the microwave), very dry bacon and hash browns that had been sitting under a heat lamp. Nor the fresh cooked breakfast I was looking for. The coffee was good.

Suitable for quick and easy lunch. A package deal is £5.95 with soup and salad. The beef is good. Takeout is cheaper.

Very small but cosy. Friendly manager/owner. Nothing was too much trouble. If you need a warm up pop in and buy a tasty roll/coffee.

Wir haben uns ein Schweinesandwich und ein Truthahnsandwich auf die Hand geben lassen. Für den Hunger zwischendurch mal was anderes und sehr lecker. Gute Saucen und saftiges Fleisch. Brötchen sind ok.

I used the shop for my breakfast for a week whilst my kitchen was being renovated and was so impressed with the bacon rolls that I've been back several times since. The service is friendly and you can decide to either eat in (only around 20 covers) or take away.
