This cafe was next to my hotel, so I dropped in for a coffee and baguette before setting off to hike round to Ryde. Wish I'd discovered it sooner, as it was the best cafe I came across during my stay in Sandown. I had an egg-and-tomato baguette, which they knocked up very quickly (they are not ready made), and it was lush. I love eggs and always have them in a baguette, and I rate this the best egg baguette I had all summer. They'd done the eggs to perfection--so instead of the flat pale look slices of boiled egg usually have, these had the granular golden surface of good-quality eggs cooked very recently. I had a chat to the jolly, friendly ladies in this cafe, including a lovely Welsh one who told me everything is fresh. You wouldn't get a slice of yesterday's boiled egg in Planet Janet, that's for sure. And with lovely bread and fresh tomato slices too, it was just the perfect baguette experience, which is not often come by. That and a good coffee in this charming sea-front corner cafe set me up for my hike with a smile on my face.

We managed to park opposite and as we had my elderly parents with us we decided to have lunch here. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. I asked what was available gluten free and was given quite a few options from the menu. I had a jacket potato with tuna, my partner had ham egg and chips and my parents had a sausage sandwich- all freshly cooked. There was plenty of seating inside although don’t expect cushions or anything modern. It probably hasn’t changed since the seventies- which suited my parents! A great spot opposite the beach to grab a bite to eat and drink- but not really somewhere to linger. I noticed that next door (open to the cafe) sells iow tea towels and souvenirs etc I wish I had taken photos 😀

Nice food and after your food I recommend you visit Steve's Beach SANDOWN best for Deckchairs and Loungers The other beach on The left of Steve's charge per visit So if you pop along for The day the go off for lunch, if you then go back You have to pay again. Stick with Steve's Beach, better value for money and a friendlier face. Well done Steve. So all in all nice food at Planet Janets then visit Steve beach opposite for a relaxing day.

On a quick weekend visit to the Island and staying in Sandown. Have been to Planet Janet before and know that you can always rely on it to provide good food and a warm friendly atmosphere. I had my snack of hot dog and onions and it hit the spot - delicious. I will definitely be returning on my next visit.

A very nice basic cafe on Sandown seafront. Had breakfast and it was fine. They do lovely sandwiches, baguettes & cakes, especially the crab ones. The fillings are generous to say the least.Very good value, we will come back next time we're on the island. Staff always friendly and helpful, they'll make whatever filling you like if they have the ingredients. Sad that someone had a bad experience, we never have and we've been coming for years now. Yes the gift shop is a bit pricey but so are all of them on sea fronts in my experience! Give Planet Janet a try.

I don't know if its because we spent a large amount of our time in Sandown but we did end up visiting this place nearly every day. We had a variety of the sandwiches that were on the menu and all of them were very tasty indeed. They have a very smooth operation in place even when the place is full you literally only had to wait minutes for your food to arrive. Very friendly, efficient service and extremely good value. Keep up the good work.

Had a crab sandwich on brown with side salad and chips , may have well caught a fresh crab myself, because that sandwich wasn't fresh unfortunatly , it may have been a one off but wont be returning , shop on the side a bit over priced , not being funny but on your holidays you don't want to spend £10 for a pair of sunglasses for your kids just for them to loose

The food was freshly made and the portions were generous. The food was of good quality. The bread used for the sandwiches was extremely fresh. I can recommend the local caught fresh Isle of Wight Crab and salad sandwiches, the crab meat was delious and the amount of filling of the sandwiches was to the limit. The service was very quick, friendly and polite. The added bonus if sitting in certain seats was a view of the beach. There were fresh cakes made freshly by the owner everyday, which all looked very tempting. There is a service of making sandwiches for the journey home, these needed to be ordered the day before they are neededThe cleanliness of the tables, chairs and floor of the seating area were quickly dealt with if necessary.I would recommend this place for a snack or meal at very fair prices.

I usually go to Wights for fish and chips as they are excellent. However, due to upgrading, I found they were closed. The nearest fish and chip shop was Tony’s.So I thought I would give them a try.Unfortunately, due to the ridiculously small portions,I won’t be going back.I don’t see how they could charge so much for about a dozen or so chips.I had to pay an extra £2 to get enough for two people.Wights are always excellent and not swamped in grease like Tony’s.Shame.

We were looking for a nice restaurant in Cowes for lunch on Saturday and found this one through TA. We had the most delicious meal served by the two sons (owners). They told us the restaurant has been in the family for over 30 years and you can tell this is an owner-run restaurant. They put such care into everything. Will definitely visit again.
