Pizza Express - Rochester in Medway

I payed 124£ for horrible meal. i found mud smeared on the side of my dough balls. not happy!!!! the cheese on the pizza wasn't even cooked and there was hair in my food. The waiter Josh was so so rude to me, my daughter was terrified (i will insert picture below). So disappointing. Pizza express? pizza depressed.

On the last few visits, both in December 2023, we were so crammed in it felt like we were having dinner with strangers sitting at our table. This place used to be nice but sadly no longer. They have crammed so many tables it’s very unpleasant. On one visit we were sat on the bench style sofa, the gap between the tables wasn’t big enough even for the slimmest of people, once sat down you coundn’t even get out to pop to the loo. We asked to move and the reply was it’s fine you will all be best friends by the end of the meal. This is not a pleasant dinning experience, when eating out it’s not all about the food but the atmosphere, ethos and sittings come into play. You coundn't have a private conversation when the person next door was a few centimetres away. Come on management consider your paying customers comfort and sort this out. Please ensure there is a big enough gap between tables so that people aren’t trapped and can freely visit the loo when needed. Until you sort this out we will dine in one of the many food establishments in Rochester that are more comfortable and where you feel you are having a private meal with your own friends and family.

I ordered the BBQ burnt ends pizza. After waiting a very long hour in a half full restaurant, what arrived in front of me was a huge circle of almost soggy bread due to way too much sauce, containing only 4-5 tiny pieces of meat that tasted like they had been in the slow cooker, nothing like BBQ. There were a few slices of red onion thrown around too, and apart from one small section it seemed devoid of cheese!! I actually visited in September, but delayed my review to avoid offending the person who took me there. Had it been my choice and my wallet, I would have definitely walked out.

It was very busy in Rochester the team were welcoming friendly and explained the wait. We were not rushed and had a lovely evening.

We were greated warmly on our arrival. No problem when we asked to chance our seating away from the door. Staff was extremely friendly and helped us with the app. We thoroughly enjpyed our dinner which was well cooked and hot. The place was clean and overall we were wery impressed. We would certainly return. Thank you very much to the lovely lady who served us and the young man who took the trouble to explain us how to work out the offers on the app. We shall be back again soon. 10/10

We booked a table not knowing that there was a big concert happening that evening in the Castle grounds. We arrived at 5.30pm only to be told by the 12-14 people in the queue ahead of us that there were people who were still waiting for their 4.45pm table. Our guess was no tables were kept for those who booked and they just kept accepting walk ins. Not impressed. Wouldn't recommend.

Has fruit fly infestation. We were sat at back against the back wall. Wall is covered in fruit flies that were just launching themselves off to buzz around drink food and customers. Absolutely disgusting - restaurants in this country just cannot be bothered to keep themselves clean and hygienic.

Booked a table for Four over a month ago, because of the music event at the castle. Got there on time to be told they had no tables available? Could not be bothered with numerous people in the same situation! I vote with my feet and will never use another Pizza Express again!! Hope all the others do the same??

My friend invited me to stay with her in Rochester, and on the fist night she had organised for a group of friends to have a meal in Pizza Express to celebrate her birthday. We arrived fifteen minutes early and received a warm welcome as we were shown to our table that was all ready for us. It was in a quiet corner which was perfect for us and the waiter immediately took our drinks order. The same waiter really looked after us all night! Making sure we were able to order additional drinks with ease. All the food was well presented, timely and delicious and as usual the desserts were to die for! Pizza express desserts are just the best! I loved the Buddha Bowl Vegan Salad, that was really special. When it came to paying the bill, everyone was allowed to pay separately which was perfect. Great experience and a special night for my friend xx

Nice restaurant. Quite busy when we went and a little slow on food service. Would return though. Staff seemed friendly and dealt with our minor complaint well.

We traveled to Kent this weekend to spend time with family. We decided to book Pizza Express as it was one of the kid’s favourite places to eat. As soon as we entered the restaurant we could tell it wasn’t going to be great. It is quite a small restaurant and we waited quite a while huddled in the door way waiting for someone to come over to seat us. Once someone approached us they didn’t seem like they were expecting us, even though we had booked a table. They didn’t know where to seat us. Eventually we got seated and once again no one seemed interested in serving us. We got our own menus from the stand. A staff member eventually came over to take our order. They brought out the starters and handed out the adults and eventually the kids came out last. This is always a major frustration for me. It can sometimes be difficult enough eating out with kids and it makes it so much worse bringing out kids meals last. They did it again with the mains. By the time the kids meals came out our pizzas had started to go cold and their pasta was piping hot. So we spend so much time trying to cool down there’s and end up eating ours cold. We didn’t bother with dessert, we were just keen to get our bill paid and get out of there. I have eaten in a lot of Pizza Express restaurants and this was by far the worst one I have ever been in.

Service is poor to the point it is laughable. The food is mediocre. Now that the deals are no longer available it makes this restaurant a much less appealing option.

Visited with family. The menus were practically thrown at us- not offered drinks whilst we perused the menu and after being ignored for about 15 minutes we walked out never to return. Absolutely appalling and they were not even busy. And what I assumed to be the manager was having words with one of the staff, he was talking to her like she was stupid- he was not professional at all.

Booked a meal with our family of 11 for my husbands birthday. We was given a long table at the back of the restaurant, which we thought was fine. However, we soon realised that it has its disadvantages, we got forgotten about! After attracting someone to come to the table we ordered our drinks but most of them were not available. The waitress said she would organise the drinks and then come back. She didn't. By now we had been in the restaurant for three quarters of an hour. Eventually we attracted someone and she apologised and too our order - I think she was the manager. Our food arrived after more time but our side salad did not - we ended getting this half way through the meal which we told them not to bother , so they didn't charge us for this. We ordered some more drinks including 3 cokes which again arrived when everyone else had finished without glasses, I ended using my wine glass. Pizza Express you really need to sort yourselves out and train your staff to speak more clearly and professionally. Don't take too many bookings if you don't have the staff! Such a shame but we will not be visiting Pizza Express again for some time, you thoroughly spoilt our evening.

Considering it's Christmas time, my party and I were happy to be able to book a table of 6 for my mum's birthday. It ended up being a table of 5, and some of us were very late due to snow and traffic, but the table was still held for us and we were very welcomed. Our waiter was a lovely blonde lady named Faye, and it was clear she had worked in hospitality for a long time because she remained calm and collected the whole time, even despite the evident busyness of the evening. Faye also made time to chat to us and build rapport even though she probably had lots of other tables to deal with as well, the atmosphere was lovely, she even encouraged us to get the app so we could have some free food. The food was delicious, I usually have a Fiorentina but was leaning towards the Zucchini Linguine and was pleasantly surprised by how good it was. My mum had a wonderful birthday dinner and was also full of compliments about the food, thank you Faye, your service really made a difference to what began as a cold, stressful evening, in a loud restaurant.

The manager Vanessa was great very chatty and great menu advice. Thanks for a great evening. Would recommend coming to eat here

Booked table for 4 people and when arrived the place was fairly busy but nothing unusual. Me and my husband arrived first as our frinds were meeting us there and a waiter asked if we had booked, I confirmed we had for 4 and he then said is it for 2 adults and children 🤭?? I was tempted to say yes and the kids were making their own way . He led us to a table which was practically in the food prep area , everyone in and out and take away ticket machine rattling away behind my chair , very hot and noisy . I politely asked if we could move to another table as there were several empty. The waiter went to ask, who I take it was in charge, and standing with his back to us less than a foot away preparing take away bags . He came back to us saying sorry they were booked, I then repeated that we had booked. It was like something out of an annoying comedy sketch as this poor lad literally had to speak to me then take 1 step back into the food area to talk to the guy who refused to turn around and speak to us directly . 2nd response was sorry he just said no !!! I then turned in my chair and spoke to the guy directly asking why he had said no . He said they were not opening that area as not enough staff to cover . Fair enough we thought, why didn't you just say that immediately. However in the time it took for our friends to arrive ( approx 5 mins ) people arriving where shown to these tables . 1 couple were shown to another tiny table by the kitchen but said to the same waiter could they sit elsewhere and pointed to the closed area and were immediately taken over and sat there ! 🤬 appalling behaviour from management, utter disregard for customer service. These places are now more focused on getting out take aways than ensuring customer visits are enjoyable.

Food was very good but when taking my order adding stuff to my order I did not ask for if it was a older person they would have not known so that was very poor and the stuff don’t look like they want to be there very slow to take you to your sit and ask for your order

I was visiting my friend in Rochester and chose Pizza Express for our evening meal as this chain is one of my favourites and I love the App. We had booked on the App and were greeted by Izedin who was full of charisma and was very customer focussed. He was training another member of the team and she was friendly also. Throughout the meal he came over and chatted with us as well as helping us with food choices and checking we were ok. We were interested in the vegan selection on the menu and we were not disappointed as there was plenty to choose from. We both had the baked garlic mushroom for starters followed by the vegan nourish bowl and both dishes were delicious. For dessert we chose from the dolcetti selection, which included a smaller portion of the main dessert and a coffee. We had Orange and carrot cake with an oat milk cappuccino which was perfect. The desserts at Pizza Express are always special and amongst the best on the high street. All in all a nice dining experience and we could not fault the food. Thank you 😊

First visit since the pandemic - very underwhelming - won’t be returning - seemed like half the restaurant was having birthdays - loud singing “happy birthday” every 5 minutes - my mother’s calamari starter did not arrive and when it did after being chased it...

Restaurant was very busy as many of us were going to the concert at the Cathedral. Staff coped admirably and all of them were smiling and helpful. Food was perfect. The loos were clean too.

I’ve mentioned before that I really quite like Pizza Express. I know it’s fashionable these days in certain circles to knock the chains, but you really can’t fault them for what they do well – the Pizzas are generally always good and tasty and you get a nice, consistent atmosphere. Like most chains, the range of experience can run the full range from excellent to average (rarely bad) – Pizza Express in Rochester was towards the excellent end of that spectrum. This is a smaller branch and has the honour of being one of the few restaurant chains to have penetrated Rochester’s historic town centre – I’ve eaten here may be a couple of times in the past but not for a least a year and so this was my first visit in the age of social-distancing. The staff were warm and welcoming and explained how the ordering system works at present, as we ll as where hand-sanitizer etc is, tables were appropriately distanced and the restaurant seemed well prepared. I ordered my usual, doughballs (yum), followed by a Sloppy Giuseppe with extra peperoni – both doughballs and pizza arrived quickly, were well prepared and tasted good. Like my recent experience in Norwich, a shame that we can’t have the shared bottles of garlic oil anymore and I would really like to see more butter with my doughballs, but nothing that detracted from the meal. Drinks were offered and the waiter was attentive. My partner opted for one of the lighter pizzas and partnered it with doughballs, this food also received the thumbs-up. A pleasant experience and recommended for a visit

Predictably difficult to park beforehand but hey-ho it WAS a Friday ... 2 of the party of 13 are wheelchair users who can't transfer but our table (and getting to it) gave us plenty of room. We're a complicated bunch - 2 with allergies and 1 of the wheelchair users tube-fed only, so ordering our food took a while. Never mind - quite quick service and food delicious. Just 1 'incident' which was actually amusing as well. Our 32-year-old son is the wheelchair user who CAN eat normal food. He could pass for a lot younger - but we didn't realise just how MUCH younger he seems to others (hey he's got facial hair). Our lovely waiter looked under 32 himself, but asked if we had any ID for Matthew so he could get him his beer. We didn't - only an expired passport at home. Realised the poor waiter was only doing his job so said no worries if he couldn't get the beer. He did as promised and asked his boss - all fine in the end!

A really nice Pizza Express (some have been a bit off in recent times). Attentive service and good food.

They were very busy, so I'm glad I booked a table, they had run out of some of the meals that we wanted, but otherwise it was a very good experience.

It was a busy evening, but they were able to find us a table and looked after us quite well. We enjoyed our pizzas, and like that they offer plenty of vegan and vegetarian options too. We'll be back.

Just ordered pizza. Nah better gonna stay hungry. Tomato base , no cheese, few toppings ( i even payed for extra toppings £4 but seems no one cares) . U can eat this pizza with spoon. I highly not recommend . Better order from dockside italian restaurant

We visited Rochester Cathedral earlier in the evening and had a lovely family meal at Pizza Express - booking a table was easy, staff were friendly as they normally are :-) food was quick but at the same time amazing, wide range of wines for us to choose from - new desserts which our teenage son couldn’t wait to try and reasonable price. All in all very happy. Thank you pizza express !

Bolognaise had far too much fennel in it, was far too over powering, and restaurant was full on tiny flies, very off putting

We attended this restaurant for our daughter's 4th birthday party. We included the adults in the family as well and it was such great fun! Great bonding and great fun.

I had a late lunch yesterday 15/10/19. I had a pasta dish with chicken and a cheesy sauce, which was just what I needed. I won't say it was exceptional, but it was proper comfort food.

I read recently that pizza express is endangered.

I have to admit I don't often eat at chain restaurants however I have eaten here a couple of times as they are great with children. The staff are very friendly and accommodating and service is quick for those impatient little people!

Had a very nice meal here. Service was good and the food was very quick to come out 👍🏼 Taster card accepted here too. Side dishes slightly over priced but the chips were very tasty indeed 👍🏼

Pizza Express can be a bit hit and miss. Rochester’s is always just right. Pizzas come out really quickly, beautiful dough, really hot...lovely.

My friend and I popped in for lunch on Saturday. We were seated quickly and we both ordered pizza. My fiorentina pizza was delicious. The service was excellent as well and the waitress very friendly.

Went out for the evening with 9 friends, booked the table in advance with deposit. Had a great evening and were made to feel very welcome, we had a few drinks which were a little on the pricey side. The meal was excellent, no complaints at all, the staff were friendly.

I am so disappointed by this visit to pizza express. We were not made to feel at all welcome when being seated, it felt like an inconvenience to, what I assume was the manager. When we ordered the food arrived quickly which was a real positive. When I received my mains the pizza was burnt underneath. My partner complained to the guy who was serving it who quickly took it away and asked the chef for another (the chef was seen to roll his eyes which I found extremely rude as we were seated next to where he was cooking) when the pizza was brought back the dough was undercooked. I actually feel uncomfortable complaining so I ate it so that my partner wouldn’t say anything, however couldn’t enjoy the undercooked, doughy/greasy taste. I did eventually tell my partner who complained to the manager who didn’t apologise and in fact didn’t look bothered! We were grateful to see he had taken it off of the bill, but as we were eating off of a set menu the price was hardly altered so was an empty gesture, and still no apology or recognition that is wasn’t very good was given to our face.

Surprise meal for friend very friendly polite people, would recommend restaurant. Use vouchers online, well worth it.

Busy for mother's day but service pretty good all considered.

We had a really enjoyable evening. The waiter was attentive but unobtrusive.He was very friendly and was happy to take a photograph of our group. The food was really delicious and we were all served together. We were not rushed in any way and it mean't we could enjoy each others company. This is our third visit and we will definitely visit again.

The food was tasty and well presented, wine was nicely chilled. The service from our waitress was flawless throughout the meal. Very intuitive, pro-active and attentive.

I strongly recommend the antipasto sharing platter. Delicious and tempting to look at! The service was great even when the wrong pizza arrived it was dealt with quickly & calmly. My pizza could have been cooked slightly longer to have a firmer base towards the centre but the taste as always was great.

Went to this restaurant last month, food very good and very much enjoyed.

We have been going to this restaurant since it opened and has always been great. The food is consistently really good and the best Pizza Express we go to. Tonight it was so busy and the staff were brilliant. They didn’t show they were rushed off their feet and made sure that everyone was well looked after and enjoyed their food. First class a+++

Went to restaurant today with a fairly large group of mixed ages, two very young children as well. The waitress was very helpful and gave the children some crayons and paper to amuse them.She also pointed out that one of the dishes was quite hot and the child may not like it. That advice was appreciated. We were all served together and there were no issues for those in our party who ate gluten free bases.My only complaint was that there was no Goats cheese and I love it but the other choice was absolutely delicious anyway. I have been here before and the music was very loud but not today. We were able to hear each other across quite a large table.Altogether a really enjoyable lunch.

The service in this pizza express is fantastic There is a particular waiter my little girl absolutely adores. Nothing is ever to much hassle for them, plus the pizza and peroni’s are very good

Over an hour for starters to arrive. We were told the kitchen was busy but our starters were dough balls and olives. Hardly complicated. Mains arrived soon after starters. Delicious but to be fair we were so hungry anything would have tasted good! Weren't offered any money off the bill. Disappointed.

Very friendly, helpful waiter. Food was ok. One of our group of 14 had to wait some time after the rest of us which was awkward. Would have liked to have a salad served with Cannelloni and lasagne but not prepared to pay extra for that. The sorbet was delicious! The music is loud and when a large group of you are talking it really interferes. Generally clean though. Don't think I will particularly rush to return.

Standard Pizza Express. Can't go wrong. Service couldn't be faulted. Loos could do with a proper clean.

We stopped for lunch here, having been round the castle and cathedral. The air con was pleasant and the staff were friendly.

I ordered a salad which had a black spot on it, when mentioned to the waiter he said he could not do anything and directed the manager to us. Instead of offering an apology, she said : that is how it come from the packet. I refused that explanation and it was the cooks job to check. She took the salad away and within one minute I got another one. In which there was a piece of kitchen towel. I refused to eat there. When the whole situation was mentioned to the waiter who asked for our experience, he was rude, unapologetic and back chatted. Not going back.

don't know what's happened in here New waiters, maybe . but pretty disorganised at best but we still tipped them .

Ich bin zwar kein Veganer, aber von außen hat mich die Werbung für eine vegane Pizza mit Artischocken und Oliven für unter 600 kcal angesprochen. Fast 12£ fand ich zwar preislich viel, aber die Neugier war geweckt. Das Ergebnis: Lecker! Jedoch nicht so außergewöhnlich, dass es den hohen Preis rechtfertigen würde. Auch sonst ist das Restaurant, wie der Name schon sagt mehr wie ein Express, denn wie ein Nobelrestaurant aufgebaut.

A good place to visit with the family, pizzas are tasting and well prepared. Location is great for all that is going on in Rochester too. We go here regularly for an evening out.

Very friendly staff. Pizzas are as you would expect. Wine list limited but the bottle we had was very nice. Reasonably priced

Excellent quality of food and service. Very good pricing and a great destination for birthday meals or just a dinner out. If I could afford to eat out more I would come here weekly!

Came for lunch. Very war welcome and attentive friendly staff. Sat in the window, so we were able to watch the passing people enjoying their day in Rochester. Nice , good quality food served well. Can recommend and will be back for more.

Visited early on a Friday evening and sat outside people watching, place was buzzing but the staff were very friendly, attentive and the pasta was good - only downside is the portions are quite small, pizza next time! Have had the calamari before and it’s excellent.

Went in just after 915pm. Felt we were not welcome to start with. Finally got attention of manager to order. Asked for a runny egg on my fiorentina. It came raw... only the white was a little cooked- the egg was cold. Sent it back.. got the same pizza and egg back.. still raw. Very apologetic waitress (rude chef!) who said we could have a new pizza in 4mins. Why not this to start with?? Was my pizza as I had cut a triangle out of the crust! Been coming here for years.. won't be going back for sure.

Over the bank holiday weekends you expect majority of places to be fully booked especially over the lunch / dinner hours.

Popped in about three o'clock one week day for a late lunch. Very quiet. Staff left us alone and only approached the table when we caught their eye. Pizzas were freshly cooked, served on hot plates and looked appetising. Good taste too. Nice not to feel rushed in a Pizza Express. Lunch options were good value for money compared to the pizzas alone.

We took our three grandchildren there on Saturday night early. Very children friendly and the kids loved the activity sheets they got. The waiter had a slight mishap with a glass of wine which the kids all laughed at because one of them got wet. It was absolutely fine and was cleaned up very quickly. The staff were very attentive and really looked after us. Will definitely go again with the family as it was a lovely atmosphere.

A huge thank you to the staff of Pizza Express, Rochester, who took our group booking and allowed us to pre-order food so that we could feed around 40 choir members in under an hour. We were so impressed to have our food and drink orders within minutes of arriving, along with our itemised bills. Such great organisation!

We all visited on Sunday to our luck we were kindly offered a seat by the window by the female with glasses which is quite cozy to watch and relax at. My mum and my partner LOVED and enjoyed their American Hot and Caneloni as well as my pasta Polo Pesto, I would like to mention that as well as the food the service and atmosphere it felt like the staff were relaxed but still did an amazing job on looking after us as well as making quite a funny joke at the the end. We will definitely come back again !

Feel the need to write a review of this Pizza Express, whose service this evening was exemplary. There were nearly 40 of us - an entire choir - needing to squeeze a meal into the gap between a rehearsal and concert in the cathedral. We'd booked in advance, and had pre-ordered our food, but we needed to be in and out in little over an hour...

This is a lovely restaurant, however we weren't particularly impressed with the service. It took quite a while to get our food, however our drinks were completely forgotten about. The staff were very friendly, although it also took a while to get our bill and it seemed as if people were soon forgotten about. The food was also quite average, so the experience could've been better.

After an hour and half of visiting the castle and the cathedral it was a pleasant stop off at Pizza Express. The service was friendly, the food was lovely, hot and made quickly. It is one of the few restaurants that takes NUS cards and gives great discounts so it makes it an even more value for money place to eat. Added to that good service and nice food what's not to like a meal and drinks for 4 adults £36 after £26 discount applied. Pizza express never fails to impress.

Great pizza, very authentic, polite friendly staff, clean and refreshing, nice atmosphere, sat in the window and watched the world go by.

There’s a Pizza Express everywhere, and this one follows the same format. But the thing with this branch is that it’s the friendliest Pizza Express I’ve ever been to. The staff are always great with our 3 year old daughter, and on occasion have taken her to the kitchen to watch her food being made.

The prosecco was warm, most staff were not professional at serving, the food for each course came out at different times for our party, there was a long wait between courses to the extent that we had to seek out someone to clear the table, the pizzas were soggy, the lasagna was like a soggy mess in a dish, the calamari was just warm. All in all a poor showing, won't be going back ever.

This restaurant was so busy with people queuing out the door. The food was nice and the service was good but it got very crowded as it's quite small. I would definately recommend booking.

I must say this busy restaurant has a good atmosphere and was certainly very busy, the service was a bit haphazard to say the least.

I had the padana pizza which was goats cheese and spinach but there was so much onion marmalade (not sure how they list it, like a sweet onion pickle) that it totally swamped everything else. Any fresh taste was completely masked. Very disappointing. The staff were great though.

Ordered the Pollo Pasta for mains and it came out stone cold - not good at all. They took it back and simply reheated it. Had the Lotus biscoff dessert this was lovely!

I got bamboozled into going to pizza express by my pestering kids- though I have to say it was a very enjoyable experience as always. Had polenta chips and an American hot. I googled pizza express vouchers just before we went in and saved a tenner!

Despite people raving about pizza express I am yet to have a pizza I enjoy. The vegetarian pizzas I have had are soggy and inedible. I have only been vegetarian for a year and struggle to find pizzas which are tasty, varied yet not so soggy they are a doughy mess towards the middle. Come on Pizza Express, sort your pizzas out!

felt a little different yesterday . not very organised with starters plates left on table while they served mains. starters just warm enough think on the pass too long? pizza good as usual. however can pizza express bring back etna . there isn't a hot pizza on the menu.

We love pizza express, the staff are fast and efficient. The food is really tasty, they have colouring for the children. A great addition to Rochester high street.
