Pizza Express in Brighton and Hove

Absolutely fantastic service yesterday for our son’s 8th birthday. Genuine and relaxed service from both Jamie (GM) and Daisy. A particular shout out to Daisy who went the extra mile with service and celebrations

Best Pizza Express experience ever. Jamie, Daisy and staff were so welcoming, friendly, accommodating and attentive. My allergy was taken seriously and everything run past me. Was quiet, being a lunchtime but they brought the atmosphere (and shots!). Daisy makes great baby guinesses🍸

Salads arrived with missing ingredients, dough sticks were burnt and food was bland. Pizza express no more for my family.

I just wanted to leave a review because the staff were so exceptionally lovely. I didn’t get their names but a lady with glasses who I think was a chef and a girl with brown hair served us. They were so helpful and attentive and appeared to genuinely enjoy their job! I wish I got your names but they are very lucky to have you as staff :)

The restaurant was per our expectations in line with the brand. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. She took our request and hurried up the starter as we were famished. I could nod not have asked for anything better. All in all great experience. The food was delicious and hot.

Will the manager was fantastic and looked after us all evening and gave us a table with space for the baby and pram , his customer service was second to none and the food was delicious .

Get more staff. We waited for 20mins for someone to show up to ask us for water or our orders. Had to leave without ordering. The staff was seeming super tired and overworked. Disappointed in the management.

As for this review I can’t speak for the food as we didn’t make it that far. We were outside the pizza express today and were just taking a look at the menu, deciding if we wanted to eat there. Suddenly a man jumps up from one of the outside tables who seemingly worked there and tells us “it’s 20% off on Mondays”. This wasn’t represented anywhere else. He led us into the restaurant where he went to get us a menu. The experience was more like being caught by a dodgy car salesman than a waiter/manager. We sat outside and as soon as we did, he rejoined his table just down from us where he could be heard to snidely remark to whoever he was sat with “it’s not 20% off on Mondays”. I can’t say i’m surprised, given his sales pitch. Had a quick google just to check, and couldn’t find any evidence of it anywhere. The waitress that came to see if we were ready to order was pleasant. However we decided to leave as the whole experience just felt really suspicious and had a very bad vibe. I know he thought he was being a smart salesman, but I think he needs to take a look at his job description before seemingly outright lying to us just to bump up his customer numbers. Put your customers before your ego. Went to ask italian instead, was very nice.

Very bad experience and more than questionable hygiene. The waiters who lean on the plates before receiving the pizza... who put their hands in them while touching their phone... no longer an interminable wait. We decided to leave the place without dinner. Too bad we can't give 0 stars.

Called in for an evening meal (14.8.24) with a friend visiting from the US. The restaurant was clean and well presented. The menu choices were good, and I was very pleased to learn gluten-free eating was accommodated with no issues. The food we ordered was served quickly and was tasty. Our server, Sarah, was fantastic; very attentive without being annoying. She and her colleagues created a lovely relaxed vibe in this restaurant which was the perfect end to our day.

Staff fancied a skive so they closed early. But forgot I had ordered food online. After being asked on the app to arrive between 10:15 - 10:30, I arrive at 10:20 pm sharp to pick up only to be greeted by a very enthused looking red-headed waitress who could only stand and shrug at me then run and hide as I showed her confirmation on my phone. Utterly Pathetic. Thanks for that guys 👌

On the day we went here, it was very busy and understaffed. Callum, our waiter, went above and beyond to ensure we had a pleasurable meal and a nice evening and was patient and kind. Would recommend, very nice food and drink.

a little delayed when it came to serving, then one of the starters came to me with an ingredient that I said I didn't want, my second never arrived, I had to ask for the bill because it took more than half an hour, it is worth mentioning that the restaurant was not very busy I also saw that a table on the side left because they were not attended to.

This omission was not communicated on the menu, leading to further frustration. For a restaurant that markets itself on its Italian cuisine, these issues felt like significant oversights. **Overall Disappointment:** We were especially disheartened by this experience as we are regular patrons of other PizzaExpress locations, which have consistently provided good food and service. This visit was a real letdown and did not meet the standards we have come to expect. It’s a real shame to encounter such a poor experience at a place we usually enjoy. **Conclusion:** Overall, our visit to this PizzaExpress was far from satisfactory. The poor ambiance, inattentive service, and lack of basic menu items made for a thoroughly disappointing dining experience. Given our past positive experiences with PizzaExpress, this visit was a significant disappointment and has made us reconsider future visits to this location. Also Pizzaexpress advertise that you get a free children’s meal at present in the holidays but this was not applied to the bill.

The staff here were very attentive and willing to help with advice in regards to new dishes and drinks they recommend. The atmosphere of the restaurant was very warming and welcoming.We will definately return

Using too good to go: Scam. At the end of the day you pay £5 for something they'd sell for £15 in normal circumstances. It's usually cooked or bagged food that can't be saved for tomorrow. In this case 3 starters/deserts or 1 main. Made me wait 10 min for: -2 VERY SMALL portions of chips that seemed reheated and enough sauce for 3 chips in a little pot. -1 chocolate fondant from the fridge. Is that supposed to be worth £15? Even £5? I prefer to be told "We don't have anything for you tonight, do you want this garbage or prefer to get your money back?" Not again :/

Me and my friend were in on Friday night and we were both saying what a difference it makes to have service with a genuine smile - the food, cocktails and desserts were also great - thanks for a lovely evening.

I came in after working on the Bluey show on Friday (along with all the audience members it seemed!) and it was clear they were understaffed for such an inpour of customers - not helped by the fact that the payment systems temporarily went down! But the staff remained very friendly and helpful. They were rushed off their feet but still managed to be speedy and all smiles! The pollo pesto was super tasty as always and I enjoyed my roulade to takeaway : ) : ) Luckily by the time I left the card machines were working again but - having worked in hospitality myself - I did feel for them having tech fail in the middle of such a busy lunch shift! Bravo for holding it all together and hope the weekend went well with our additional six Bluey shows!!!

We arrived at 1130 and there was literally 1 table in front of us and didn’t get our food until 1230. Our toddler had some dough balls as part of her kids menu and when we asked when the grown up food would be coming they said they’d been waiting until she finished her food to start our pizzas. Anyone who has been around a toddler eating would tell you they eat at a glacial pace so that policy is bonkers. Our calzone was 95% peppers, which I can only assume was punishment for asking about when our food was arriving. When we were ready to leave we were told their card machine was faulty so we had to wait until they (unsuccessfully) attempted to fix it and then had to go and find a cash machine. When we came back with our cash and asked for our change the waitress rolled her eyes and served 4 further tables before dawdling over to get it. We were offered no discount or coupon for this disaster.

Great Food, however service was shocking as we were left sitting for over an hour waiting on the bill while the servers repeatedly made eye contact with us and stared at our table during their conversations with eachother while also avoiding our table and disappearing downstairs anytime we tried getting up to ask, felt very rude and got very fed up towards the end.

Pizza express is best in uk! Don't change anything. Now is perfect 👌

Dream of arancini new on the menu lacking in mushroom and cheese, heavy on the rice and garlic so no what it says on the tin, pizza was ok only very thin on pancetta, service very good indeed.

Loved the melanzane. Waitress had a very positive energy. Very nice. Relaxing music! They have a dedicated menu for vegans, which is great.

We visited your Prince Albert Street, Brighton branch on Sunday 10th as part of a Mother's Day outing. The food was very good but it was the service that was exceptional. Our waitress Sarah was very attentive and nothing was too much trouble. Everything was done with a smile and she made the whole experience very enjoyable. Thank you.

Had a pleasant early evening supper at my favourite Pizza Express. I still live in Brighton and was here the first week it opened in 1984! In fact I was the same age as our waiter who was also 21! :) We ordered a bottle of Argentinian Keltehue Malbec which was so flavourful with a lovely finish on the palate. We started with the tomato and basil bruschetta which was lovely and garlicky. I opted for a pizza with a rocket and parmesan salad and my partner ordered the chicken Milanese salad - we shared the cheesecake dessert which was delicious and finished with coffee. The only negative was the pizza could have been a little crispier on the underneath but apart from that, a very lovely evening. Obviously, we will be back!

I got served by Callum on a recent visit, and he made my group feel very welcome. Great asset to the company.

I wanted to say thank you to the smiley waitress with sparkly nails who served our table of 6 before we hit the comedy club. It was Saturday night and she was clearly busy. but service was prompt and nothing was too much trouble (she was so patient with our dozens of Tesco vouchers!) It’s rare that you receive such excellent service with a smile these days so I just wanted to give a shout out! The food was also delicious as always. Thank you Pizza Express The Lanes for getting our night off to a great start!

good food but HORRIFIC SERVICE!!! Our initial server was lovely and talkative but it was more than apparent that she’s the only floor staff who came in to work. The other two women, it was clear they didn’t like their jobs (whether that due to workplace or general poor attitude). There were multiple times where we attempted to call over staff yet couldn’t get their attention. I sat with my back to my table for AGES waiting for a single member of the floor staff to notice me staring & waving; yet they simply stood the the furthest corner by the bar and gossiped with one another having a little hug. In this time one of the kitchen staff walked past us, she stared at me blankly and proceed to walk by despite me asking for help (initially mistaking her for floor staff). After managing in hospitality myself, it is nothing but embarrassing when a customer has to leave their table and come to the bar because they’re too disinterested in monitoring the floor. It was a Saturday night and yet the service was the worst at its quietest, sadly ironic don’t you think???? I hoped for better! Edit: would also like to mention how ridiculously long food took? half the table had their starters for 5-10 minutes before the final two appeared. Mains took agonisingly long and weren’t hot. Myself and my friends watched a tables 3 pizzas sit there for 20 minutes before they saw a table (key phrase is that they even saw a table), our table had received slowly their starters & finished them before anybody touched that sad cold pizza- we both thanked fate that it wasn’t ours! (sorry if it was yours!!)

Not sure if words can express how dissatisfied and disappointed I was with my experience here. Not only did it take half a decade to receive service but I was also told by a waitress who didn’t take our order that we had ordered something we didn’t. Food was good quality when it arrived, however trying to pay the bill was near impossible with staff walking past and making less eye contact than Stevie Wonder. I would avoid if I was in the area, lots of other options and far better service available.

Went for a meal took 20 minutes for us to get a servers attention to place orders for even drinks. It wasn’t that busy so we were a bit confused. An hour in they told us they forgot to put our food order in so we ended up getting our food almost 2 hours in. Was a very bad experience. There were two male servers that were blatantly messing around and it wasn’t a bother to us but other customers on the table beside us pointed it out and had an issue with it. I only mentioned that so maybe in the future there will be better customer service.

Went here for dinner with my son,we didn't book a table so was just taking the opportunity, got to the door was ignored for a bit then a young lady came up and we ask about a table, she walk off so assuming she was just checking after standing there for a while,a gentleman came up and said can he help us we explained about the young lady checking, he said no she is not checking because there is table and she should have explained, disgusting have us standing there

Dirty uncleared tables all over the restaurant not cleared whilst we had are meal . Service was poor and menu now far more expensive than our previous visits.

Lovely staff and the food was fab. The acoustics aren't great so it was a bit intense for my son, who has autism, but overall it was a good place to eat as a family

Service and food were second to none, making sure that Gluten free food was served on black plates so you know it definitely is.

Thank you to the friendly & helpful waitress who served us on a very wet and horrible afternoon! She was really kind and chatty, the food was lovely and it was a nice casual atmosphere. I appreciate that they were unfazed by our group of noisy, excited children after meeting Santa!! :)

Food was amazing. However, the starters and mains took too long over an hour waiting and all they said was we're too busy at the moment. The restaurant wasn't full not even half. The food was pretty good as usual by the way.

I never write reviews but I had to review here. Had a booking yesterday for 2 people, arrived on time and then had to wait a long time to be seated, bearing in mind the restaurant was practically empty. The chef noticed that we had been waiting for a while and told us to sit down and he would bring us some menues. We went to sit down and the waiter then stopped us and asked us who told us to sit down. We explained that the chef told us to sit down and he seemed offended. Whilst deciding what we were going to order, we could visibly see wait staff ignoring other customers in favour of joking around. Moreover, a couple sat behind us became, justifiably, more annoyed as we were served before them, even though they had been in the restaurant longer than us. I cannot complain about the food, the chef was excellent. As we went to pay, we decided to leave a tip but accidentally left off a 0 off the tip on the card reader and didn’t realise until too late. We would have attempted to rectify the issue had the server not 5 seconds later then taken our receipt to the chef and openly mocked our mistaken tip whilst we were not even a meter away from them. A lovely meal spoiled by appalling staff.

Great venue to sit and watch the world go by

We came here 14 of us for a hen do last weekend, Zoe has been great from start to end with communication and menus. Even the chef made dough balls willies which made the brides night!! So hilarious Thank you so much for lovely food and service!!

So good! The pasta was great and our server Lola was so lovely and polite and went above and beyond for us when our student discount wouldn’t load!

Brilliant food and service! Tried a restaurant down the road first however the service was so slow, after waiting for drinks for 30 minutes we left! Good old Pizza Express always a winner. The manager was ‘on it’ as soon as we arrived, quick excellent service and top pizza! Winner

What amazing service we received last night. Due to roadworks my daughter and I arrived into Brighton late and with very little time to eat before our show. Zoe picked up the phone to me twice, firstly she confirmed that they will keep our table and the second time she allowed me to order our pizza's over the phone to save time when we got there. She was so welcoming when we arrived and then sorted out an issue I was having with a voucher ensuring that the bill was paid long before we needed to leave. Lovely pizza and very happy us... we made our show with 15 mins to spare. Thank you!!!!

Came in for an amazing lunch with friends! We were seated by Felix and promptly served. Rachel guided us though the menu and provided recommendations. Both Rachel and Felix were so accommodating and welcoming, we felt at ease. They are both a credit to your company! Thank you so much for having us!

Dining in is often pleasant here. The actual pizza itself is delicious, it’s always cooked to perfection, finished with a sensible amount of toppings, and is never too hard or too soft. Regarding service, it can on occasion take a while to get served, so you may end up waiting a while. However, staff are all very friendly, usually happy to assist with allergens, and take your order quickly. Waiting time for the food to come out is usually about 15-20 minutes in the majority of my visits, which is satisfactory. They deliver your drinks orders first so you can sip whilst waiting. It’s also usually very quiet inside, not that there aren’t many people, because it is often packed, but it is such a spacious and airy restaurant that actually it is never loud. The toilets are down a staircase to a lower level of the restaurant, what might be the basement. Sometimes I have noticed the stairs and toilet floors can be wet, but there are usually wet floor signs out.

Pizza Express FM just doesn’t feel like it matches the environment - very vibey street. Food and service are great.

The restaurant itself was nice and the service was excellent, but as a group we weren't overly impressed with the choice of pizza / toppings on offer. Compared to the similar chains we felt there was better choice elsewhere.

The food at Pizza Express today was decent enough but the service was outstanding! Amid a busy Saturday afternoon, our waiter Sarah was extremely friendly and accommodating, cracking jokes and generally creating a lovely experience for our group - she was also really kind to my elderly mum who wasn’t feeling well. The only thing better than good service, is to see someone take pride in their work and Sarah achieved both. Bravo!

Well situated and large dining space which is well laid out. Met an ex-colleague and friend. The waiting team were extremely helpful and friendly and quick to serve. Definitely one of the better pizza restaurant chains and this one is typically Brighton - colourful and friendly.

Waiter was extremely rude and has very irritating attitude while showing tables and getting the payment. We refused giving tips and he said of course no tip and grumble something italian. Not recommended at all.

Rudest chief waitress ever. He has been mean even how the way he is talking then while we are paying check we have refused to pay tips. Then he said “of course “ than he said something Italian to us as of course we did not understand . Probably swearing .Rudest person ever. Just to letting management know. You should take care who you are employing.

Looking for a pizza speciality restaurant in the Lanes? Pizza Express definitely had me stop and stare… We started off with the Hot Honey Dough Balls which was definitely an odd choice as it reminded me more of Asian cuisine. The taste of the dip was like sweet chili sauce but more on the honey taste. The balls were served quite soggy. Carbonara was thick and cheesy! My friend said that this dish had the perfect consistency and the smoky pancetta gave the dish that extra touch! She devoured it quickly. I ordered their Padana pizza which had saltiness from the goat cheese, sweet caramelized onions, red onions, and spinach. I liked how crispy the pizza was and had the perfect amount of cheese. The spinach was really soggy and it felt like it was frozen and thrown on the pizza. Wish they used fresh spinach that was crisped up in the oven instead. This pizza was missing that heat so the chili oil and flakes saved it.

Very nice lunch, with special offers used from the app. Makes the fab food even more affordable.

Although I’ve always had good experiences with the kind and helpful staff at Pizza Express, my recent visit was disappointing. After waiting for a long time for someone to serve us, the guy offered me a table for two in an inconvenient location and with little respect. I don't recommend this brunch at all!

Not impressed. Walked into the restaurant whilst only 4-5 tables were occupied, leaving over 10-15 tables free (approximations). Was told that all the tables were booked and was turned away. I can't imagine all the free tables were booked for the same time..

The staff were great here today, really friendly and went through the menu clearly as I am a ceoliac. Simon in particular was very attentive and spent time talking to my nephew as well. You can see he really cares about good service. Thank you.
