Pizza Express in Oxford

Went for late lunch here the other day for my boyfriend’s birthday and all I can say is… wow! The service made the entire experience, the food was honestly just a bonus (and it was extremely delicious..). Sam was our server and he was the best server I’ve had in YEARS! He’s one of the very few left in the industry that give impeccable service. Andrea was also incredible from the second we walked through the door, as there was a slight hiccup with the booking and Andrea sorted it within the first 2 minutes of us arriving. He helped organise the cake being bought out, helped with whatever we needed and was overall just amazing and helpful. Thank you Sam and Andrea, my boyfriend and I will definitely be back and we look forward to it :)

Only picked an order from Too Good To Go, but the staff are very lovely; Margerita pizza and doughs are tasty. I like the ambience too.

We had booked a table for 5 at 7pm. When we arrived promptly on time there was a long queue to be seated, and it took us 25 minutes to be seated, despite booking. During this time the fire alarm went off multiple times meaning our conversations were disrupted. Service was slow during the entirety of our meal, and the food was below usual pizza express standards. Wouldn't recommend!

We had such a lovely experience dining here on Friday night - the food was great, but the person who deserves a special shoutout is our lovely server Noel. Noel was absolutely wonderful - such a charming person with infectious energy. We really hope that he gets some recognition for this!

Early pre theatre dinner, so not very full. Meal was good, the standard you'd expect from Pizza Express. Very large pizza, lovely past dish, big portion. Beware the new chorizo pasta is very spicy - I loved it, some might find it too hot. Service was quick, without being rushed. Pleasant and friendly. Lovely building - modernised but with some old features remaining.

We have come back every year to visit Oxford and each time our special place to go is Pizza Express on Corn Market Street. The food is amazing and has never disappointed but even more so we go back to meet Barbara who has been there for eons and is one of the most amazing hostesses ever. The service, the starters, the mains and desert is outstanding! A must go ..

The food was good but the person who was serving me was angry and the food took too long and she was ignoring me.

The pizza here was delicious! We ordered the BBQ burnt ends and American hot pizzas, which were amazing. Our servers Andre and Emma were friendly and super helpful! I would recommend!

We had dinner at Pizza Express and had excellent service from Andre and Emma. We got two pizzas to share which were delicious and the perfect size. Andre and Emma made us feel very welcome and we had a lovely chat to them. We will definitely come back

Pizza express pasta portions are awful, today we had the carbonara and we were served a tiny amount of food, small enough to be a kids or starter or side portion. We were told that it was put into a bigger bowl today. This doesn’t excuse the price of £15.45 for such a small meal. Pizza express has deeply dissapointed me. We waited an hour and 15 minutes for this food, dissapointed.

The new PE in Summertown, Oxford is very good. We had a relaxed lunch and the lady who served us was very good. Pizzas and salads were good, but the pasta dishes are to be avoided, unless you are gluten free.

We loved everything about our lunch. I am old and disabled and a very kind man, I think he may be the manager, took my walker out of my scooter for me and put it back again when we left. The service was really attentive and we thought the food excellent: perfectly cooked and wih delicious sauces - and more of these when we asked for them We were there to celebrate our 65th wedding anniversary but we only told the kind manager as we left. He said he would have done something special if he'd known. We hope to go again soon.

Went there today and despite it being busy I was promptly greeted and served. Had a lovely La Reine pizza and again when it was time for me to pay I was promptly given my bill. Very pleased.

Honestly so so good! Highly recommend if you want a delicious pizza, we got the soho’65 pizza and it had so much flavour for it being vegetarian! Staff were absolutely lovely and quick service, was a bit on the pricier side however was well worth it

Absolutely excellent, as to expect from a pizza express. Service was quick and precise. I went for a classic 12 piece dough balls. And the Romano base American hot. Cracking. Personally I love the garlic oil that you have to ask for. Guilty as charged, I absolutely doused my pizza in it. Love it 5/5 as always

Like any good chain restaurant the food is generally consistent but the service can fluctuate. That's why it was such a pleasure to have dinner at the Pizza Express in Oxford. The food was exactly what I expected and wanted but the quality of the service from Eva was exceptional. Attentive but not overbearing. Great job!

Awful experience, tall guy that I believe that he was the manager was really rude and was shouting from distance ,never go back again It took them 10 min to come and take the order. There was barely few customers in the restaurant

Driver called to say he couldn’t find the address , Pizza turned up cold ,first / last time to use pizza Express .

We needed to find a place to eat in the centre of Oxford before going to the Oxford Playhouse Theatre and found Pizza Express, which is tucked away just off Cornmarket Street. The whole experience was a delight from start to finish. The service, pizzas and general atmosphere were all excellent. Also our wine (Nero Davola Shiraz), the roulade dessert and coffee were very good. A most enjoyable start to our evening.

A whole meal was missing and Joyce along with staff was laughing whilst I was on the phone waiting to hear the meal was not packed but still on the side!!! Joyce stated go back to Just Eat and get a refund as they cannot send out the missing meal! Terrible service as they did not check off the items when packing order! It’s all a joke to Joyce and colleagues so will not be spending any money with this joke of a company called Pizza Express Golden Cross again! Truely disgraceful service!

not sure if there was a run on the margherita today, but felt dubiously shortchanged for the double pizza for 2 when there was so little margherita on the pizza that one could amusingly see the concentric circles of passata. a woeful surface area coverage of mozzarella circa <50% on average per slice on what was otherwise a moreish base

The delivery was good, good communication from driver, just slightly late which I would normally overlook but since I scheduled the delivery hours in advance was a little annoying. However it seems the issues are down to the restaurant – the food was freezing cold when it arrived which was very disappointing when I've paid for a hot meal.

we had an incredible experience at this pizza express establishment. the staff were all so welcoming and lovely towards us, our server Fergus was amazing at looking after us and making our experience so enjoyable. It was my 21st birthday and they gave me a free pudding as well as one for the rest of the group so that they didn’t feel left out! such a lovely tea out, thank you so much everyone.

After dining i saw the manager was making a pizza where he was coughing and was using the same hand to make pizza.Not maintaing hygiene at all.

I'm old enough to remember going to the original London Pizza Express, back in the 60's which, whilst a bit of a novelty at the time, was nevertheless, a truly memorable and special experience. Since then and many (tummy - bound) pizzas later, my love for Italian food continues unabated and when it comes to pizzas in this country, no-one comes closer than Pizza Express. This particular restaurant simply compounds my love and the staff went further to not only enhancing our eating experience, (my three stepsons were treating me for my birthday!) but making it extra special. Particularly, Andre, the Manager, who really made us feel special and welcome in what was a busy time, in the restaurant. ps: I had bruschetta to start and a La Reine pizza with an egg, all washed down with a delicious Peroni Doppo Malto. De-flippin-licious. Highly recommended, can't wait to go back.

Food Consistency is the game with pizza express, but on this occasion, the service was fantastic, and the location historical too, you get to eat where the one and only William Shakespeare used to stay in route to London !

My recent visit to Pizza Express in Oxford was completely unsatisfactory. Things started off fine with our starters being served quickly, but it all went downhill from here onwards. We waited ages for our mains, with two tables who ordered after us receiving their food before we did. One of those tables also had pasta dishes, to which we were told when ordering that there was no pasta at all! During this time we were waiting, I began to notice that the staff appeared to be closing the restaurant for the night - taking bins out, wearing coats while still serving customers, walking round with a drill in hand, waiting staff shouting goodbye at the kitchen staff - all of which was not at all pleasant for us, nor professional. The kitchen staff were also wiping down all the kitchen surfaces before we had even received our mains. This was completely unacceptable considering it was an hour and a half before they were meant to close and it was a Saturday night! When our mains did arrive, two of the pizzas that were meant to have chicken on came without the chicken. These were then replaced, but there was no apologies from the staff or any details about how they were dealing with the issue at the time. By this point, we felt very rushed to eat our food and leave as they were closing so early. We also had issues with settling our bill via their online app, with the manager trying to explain how 2 of our payments had failed. When we had worked out how to resolve this issue, I informed the manager of this and he preceded to completely shut me down in a rude and inconsiderate manner. Overall, despite the nice food (when the correct meals were received), the atmosphere created and complete lack of etiquette from the staff made this dining experience utterly appalling. I certainly will not be returning for the foreseeable future and would much prefer to go to one of the other Italian restaurants down George Street.

This is a lovely pizza Express restaurant in Oxford tucked away from the high street. We were celebrating our son’s 18th birthday, but didn’t tell the lovely lady serving us not wanting to be embarrassed, although he did get his free pudding! The food was delicious, especially my vegetarian Calabrese pizza and lovely staff providing a great service.

Came here for an evening meal and didn't bother staying past being seated. Our server was incredibly grumpy and rude and as such we decided not to stay as we were not made to feel welcome nor comfortable. Would not recommend after this experience and will not be returning

It was very good rather than other branch

I used to love this restaurant when I was a kid, it was my favourite. But having a squished up lukewarm pizza delivered by a rude man just ruined it. Nearly vomited, couldn’t eat it. Won’t order again. Definitely not the restaurant with the problem. It’s the drivers.

Another horrible Pizza Express. Plenty of tables available but waitresses refuse us because we did not have booking but again plenty if empty tables. I am seriously thinking to not come to any pizza express anymore. By the way I can pay the restaurant and I was normally dressed does not understand this behaviour.

The lady who served us at this restaurant was wonderful. My husband and I were struggling to find somewhere to eat late on a Friday night and this lady was extremely accommodating, friendly and patient, despite the restaurant being more or less closed. Thank you so much for your kindness.

What an absolute delight! A Pizza Express in a medieval building not far from Oxford Covered in Market. Such a beautiful location both inside and out - see photos! It wasn't just the building that we were delighted about. Lovely food and we encountered three members of staff during our meal including the restaurant manager. Such lovely people - welcoming, kind and happy to talk about their establishment - they are certainly well up on the history of the place. Particular mention should go to Fergus, the guy who served us. His customer service was excellent - nothing was too much trouble. Very highly recommended.

We visited here on my daughter's recommendation. I don't want to tell too many people about this restaurant! Pizza (gluten-free) was served on a black board to make it obvious which is which - smart and subtle move. The building is wonderful for historians and anyone who likes quirky buildings. The staff were friendly and polite throughout. We had a great conversation with one of the servers, Fergus (We're sorry if we kept him chatting too long!), and the manager, which extended a quick meal into a pleasant and memorable evening out. Many thanks to you both.

As with all Pizza Express outlets that we have visited, they are sooooo tight, that they don't heat the toilets, the water that comes out of the tap, or have heated hand dryers. It really is petty and off-putting. Service here today left a lot to be desired with the female waitress complaining how she was on her own (and did so abruptly and with no essence of a smile). It's not the customers fault, in fact they keep you in a job so you may wish to remember that. Obvs this review will no doubt receive the same bog standard response as most of the others, typed (from the owner probably) with the same level of un-interest by which we were served. Save yourself the bother. You won't be seeing us soon!

Disappointing Experience with Two Good To Go from Oxford Pizza Express Too Good To Go is a service with a mobile app that connects customers to restaurants and stores that have surplus unsold food which is still good. I recently ordered a Two Good To Go bag from Pizza Express in Oxford through the app, and the entire experience left much to be desired. The food was disappointingly cold and un-tasty. I tried a small bite from each item, but it made me feel ill as there was an unusually greasy taste to the main dish that I hadn't encountered in the 22 other Two Good To Go bags I've tried from various establishments around Oxford. It's noteworthy that Pizza Express doesn't cook in grease or oil, so this taste was unexpected, possibly stemming from the cheese used. In an attempt to salvage something from the disappointing side dishes, I peeled off the tough bread crust from the chicken strips to share with my Labrador. And the potato dish! possibly chips, had clumped together into a less-than-appetising mass. I love my dog too much to have given her that so it went in the bin with the rest of it. Upon reaching out to the store for a resolution, I spoke with .-.-.-, who proved unhelpful and even argumentative. When I requested a refund due to the unsatisfactory quality, .-.-.- insisted I contact customer services but refused to provide any information, simply instructing me to "Google it." This lack of assistance from a representative was disheartening, especially for a new customer seeking a positive experience. In an attempt to resolve the issue, I engaged in a live chat on the Pizza Express website with K. While she did her best to assist, the process seemed unnecessarily convoluted. When I mentioned feeling unwell due to the cold and greasy tasting food, K stated that she would have to pass the matter on to the Quality and Safety department. Unfortunately, she couldn't confirm whether a refund would be issued, and I received a ticket number with a waiting period of up to 7 days for resolution. As a customer, one would expect a reputable establishment like Pizza Express to consistently deliver high-quality food, fostering a desire to return and share the experience with family. This particular incident, however, fell far short of that expectation. In addition, the inconvenience of having to personally pick up the late-night order added to the overall dissatisfaction, as I had to make a special journey to collect it. On a positive note, I did have a pleasant chat with a fellow student who was also collecting a bag at the same time. In conclusion, I appreciate K's efforts to address the issue, but the lack of clarity on a potential refund, the overall complexity of the resolution process, coupled with the late-night pickup experience, and the extended wait time for resolution, with a further up to 7 days, have left me with reservations about Pizza Express. Maybe, the feeling ill was not all to do with the taste, but the lack of food I was able to eat from the disappointing selection.

Bought two ‘too good to go bags’ from here. I was promised on the app ‘1 main or starter’ only to receive 6 slices of cheesecake ! 6 Deserts! Maybe if I was Augustus gloop I would’ve been thrilled but I can’t say I’m pleased with 6 cheesecake slices for my dinner. thanks pizza express team, I’ve just ordered a dominos.

Christmas shopping in Oxford last week we stopped for lunch about half one at Pizza Express Golden Cross. In the door and upstairs ...the lower floor was not in use. A short wait before Barbara showed us to a table looking out over the court yard. I knew it was going to go well as Barbara helped me with my IT as I wanted to log into the PE app and make use of an acquired benefit About 12 people dining some just finishing some must have just arrived before us. Only Barbara was seen to be covering the floor but there was no delays in drink ordering food selection and subsequent food delivery All tables received equally good service...friendly and efficient Food good a delicious pizza for me and a Budda bowl for my wife Well done to Barbara and the kitchen team

Maitre d/manager is awful. Came in today (18th nov) for lunch. Rest of the staff were lovely - especially our waitress but unfortunately he let the whole team down with his rudeness.

We arrived ahead of our reservation time but we were welcomed and seated. We used our Pizza Express apps for savings. We both ordered dough balls to start, then for mains my husband had the American Hot classic base, and I had the Beetroot Buddha Bowl. This amazing, substantial salad makes healthy eating a pleasure at Pizza Express. Food and service at this Oxford location were very good.

Terrible customer service, hair in food, food left at the table, manager Joyce had hair down, fake nails, health and safety standards are so low, said she would reduce bill, when time came to pay then laughed in our faces and said she never said any of that, all servers had long hair down no wonder there was hair in the food. Absolutely disgusted and they way it was handled was awful we were made to feel like bad people. We didn’t ask for the bill to be reduced she offered and then called us liers and belittled us. I have never written a review before let alone a bad one but I feel this experience was bad enough to do so

Over 90 minutes late, stone cold and chewy even after reheating. Unable to cancel because they said they'd charge me the full amount even before they'd started making it (though the coldness suggested they probably had).

We asked for no mushrooms in pasta but received them anyway.

I organised a university social event at Pizza Express and it was actually my first time going there. I was really satisfied by the service and the food, and despite changes to our reservation which I can imagine may be an inconvenience, the staff were really professional and polite. I've also heard that Pizza Express has a really good rewards system, so I've downloaded the app and will definitely be going there again.

Popped in for an impromptu lunch. Pleasant staff, quick service, lovely pizzas and puds. It's not cheap but you can usually find an offer code to offset the cost.

Food came at great speed and great value for money.

We ordered this food to Ronald Macdonald House in the hospital. This food was almost 90 mins late, the estimated time of delivery changed constantly and when it finally arrived the dough balls and pasta were not hot but reasonably warm, although the pizza was completely cold and when I opened the lid the pizza topping was stuck to it as the drinks had been left on top. I ordered as we literally had no other options and I had to feed people, this was awful and not what I expected from pizza express which I’ve never had a bad meal from before. I did call the restaurant, there was no answer but I left a message asking for a call back which was never received therefore I’m logging my complaint with yourselves. I’m not someone to complain but this just isn’t right. Kind regards Tim
