Caffe Ethos in Oxford

Some of the most unappetising and gloomy food I have ever experienced. The ravioli pasta was completely dry with absolutely no sauce or anything to make it any tastier than the stuff you buy in a bag from Tesco but this was nothing in comparison to the absolutely inedible mushroom, truffle and ham pizza which was truly disgusting. An extremely unfortunate booking, please go somewhere else. The waitress however was lovely and the best thing about this restaurant.

Pizza was ok, however I arrived 5 minutes early to pick it up and it had clearly been cooked little while earlier consequently wasn't that hot. Also a tip guys, I have had many pizzas in Italy and they NEVER put parmesan on their pizzas...it doesn't melt......gave the pizzas a cheddary kind of taste which was a bit off putting.

Chill and cosy ambience with a really dedicated staff on duty. Food especially the pizza was lovely . Portions are huge. Love every bit of it!

The girls at Caffe Ethos saved me last night. After a BA flight from Spain to Heathrow was delayed by more than 2.5hrs and with no catering loaded onboard, I arrived in Oxford for the last two nights of a European vacation from Australia to find my hotels restaurant closed at 9.25pm. A quick search and I had a table for one booked at Caffe Ethos for 9.45pm. On arrival I found the kitchen closed, but with very little pleading I was met with ‘take a seat’ and let me know what you would like. The spaghetti bolognese was delicious, and the tall glass of Malbec hit the spot too. Thankyou ladies for helping me out, filling my tummy before bed and a few laughs as well. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Enjoyed an afternoon tea, which was a gift from a friend. The staff were lovely and catered for my dietary requirements.

At night when I walked in and it said open well there was no worker in sight for 1 hour, then finally taking a walk around oxford for an hour a worker arrived, and me being a former restaurant worker was shocked and thought to myself I hope that there are more workers when they are open especially since it's connected to a hotel.

Only eat here if you have no other choice. We came here for breakfast and ordered a Full English (£13), smashed avocado with sausage (12.50) and a couple of drinks. The food came out like a reheated plate, with sausages looking pale and seemed to have been boiled. We had to return these to be cooked. It was a bit expensive for poor quality of food and service (12% tip automatically added, no questions asked). We should have gone to McDonald's instead. P.S. is it common to only have 1 egg served for breakfast? Our neighbourhood cafes always have 2 - one for each toast.

We arrived at Cafe Ethos with a Groupon voucher for afternoon tea with Prosecco. A gift from our daughter for Mother’s Day. The Groupon voucher was very troublesome and we could not redeem it. The Female manager (Bushra )spent over an hour trying to help us even helping us contact Groupon, via online chat. Groupon ended the chat while we were still messaging them !! I thanked her for her patience and help and said I would try again when I got home. When we left I tried again and it accepted the reservation this time !! We returned to tell her we managed to book it in two days time. She checked and said it had gone through. She then said you can have it now if you want, which was very kind. So we had our lovely afternoon tea and Prosecco thanks to Bushra and her help and patience. Great friendly place where me and my family have eaten there many times. 10/10

Food is good in here. Service is ALWAYS bad. I've visited 3 times and each time, the service has got worse. The waitress had no clue what she is doing, had to ask her 3 times for our drinks and she still didn't bring my 5 year old sons so I had to ask again, had no idea about any menu items. The large lady has always been really rude and would not move to allow my daughter to use the toilet. The Asian lady behind the bar was pleasant and friendly and the only member of staff who was nice. I only go back here as I really like the pizzas, I probably won't go again after today though

Caffee Ethos is my favourite local for pizzas. It benefits from an excellent service, and delicious pizzas with varied toppings. I am a gorgonzola lover, and they use it on some of their pizzas! Pizzas are fairly priced. Ethos hotel is located on the other side of the road

Bought afternoon tea. Very basis cakes were French fancie Mr killing cake slice. Very poor. No option of coffee. Sandwiches were uneven as in 9 finger sandwiches. How do you split 9 between 2 and poor filling as in feta and advacodco.. not everyone eats that. Definitely would not recommend

The restaurant was decorated lovely, The main counter/bar area was decorated with colourful bottles of a selection of alcohol. We used Groupon voucher for a birthday celebration There was a lovely range of food options We ordered 6 pizzas equally lovely & with fast service The Birthday girl got a strawberry cheesecake. The best tea /prosecco afternoon...the best sandwiches and cakes I have ever had ! The sandwiches were so full ...and warm scones , the lemon cake was beautiful ....it all was quality .

Good value afternoon tea, homemade scones, decent sandwiches, tea and cakes. Chef came out to check what I can eat (I'm vegetarian). Sandwiches were all cheese based, was expecting at least one of the sandwiches with eggs but still OK. They also have plant based milk, just ask. Great value for the price, got a Groupon voucher for afternoon tea for two. Other customers are those who are staying at the hotel. Menu is OK, there's a small bar, list of cocktails looks interesting. Parking is limited. Best to park at Hinksey park (pay and display) and walk over. There's a disable parking bay on street.

Went there for dinner with a mate - great vibe, great pizza. We had an issue with our Groupon but the lady there was very understanding and helped us out which was very kind. Will defo come back.

So disappointed. The lady at the door greeted us with "I am on my break - I did not get to finish my break", which she did not let us forget throughout our meal. I wish she had asked us to walk around the block and return 10 minutes later if we were too early. She then refused to make any changes to the menu - which was different to the menu provided on the website, no paninis etc. She seemed to think that it wasn't the Caffe's problem that the wrong menu was published online! We had to rearrange the tables and chairs for our large party, despite having booked for 12 people way in advance. My overall feeling was that they shouldn't accept a large booking if they can't or don't want to cope with it. On the plus side, the food was very nice on the whole and the service of the food was very efficient and timely. We just felt very unwelcome unfortunately due to the lady at the front. This is definitely more a cafe than a restaurant, contrary to earlier reviews.

Small friendly and great service from friendly staff.

Absolutely awful. Reserved a table on the website 24 hours ahead, as requested. Got a taxi to Caffe Ethos and went in. There was a party going on and seemingly consuming all the staffs time. When we spoke to someone about our reservation, the response was "oh I haven't even looked at reservations yet". We perched on a table that was being used as part of the party, for a few minutes before deciding it was clear we were not going to get served any time soon and, that it was not going to be an enjoyable place to eat anyway. So we got up to leave and we left a number with a member of staff who said they would call us the next day. They did not call. So we called and asked if the expiry date of our groupon voucher could be extended because there was only a week left on it and we may not be able to make it in time. The person said they could not authorise this and they would get someone to call us back. They did not call. So we called back and began to explain to a member of staff, who then hung up on me. I got in touch with groupon who promptly cancelled the purchase and refunded me. I rarely leave reviews for anything, but this experience was utterly terrible and so I felt compelled to do so. Would not step foot in the place again.

Groupon Deal was excellent value. Really good pizzas, a decent sized glass of prosecco and good, fast service. Will definitely go back again.

Went for an afternoon tea with prosecco that was gifted to me via Groupon. The café is very lovely, great atmosphere and staff is amazing. Super accomodating and kind. The afternoon tea sandwiches were fresh and tasted delicious, huge selection of cakes and the scones were the highlight of the tray! Absolutely recommended!

Such a charming and cosy little find on our trip to Oxford! The setting was lovely, staff were very accommodating and the pizza was beautifully made (great selection of cocktails too!).

Fantastic freshly made pizza. So nice to have different options to the usual toppings. Great little place, only thing that spoiled it was the large TVs on the wall. Kinda ruined the experience a bit. But 5 stars for the food absolutely delicious and really reasonably prices.

We had sparkling afternoon tea here yesterday. The staff were super friendly, flexible and accommodating and the food was amazing. We had more than enough for 2 and loved the atmosphere. The tea was super hot which is always welcomed. We will definately be returning.

I purchased a groupon voucher for four people at cafe ethos, for pizza and prosecco. I booked 24 hrs in advance as required and received a confirmation email. However when we arrived we were told that the kitchen was closed as they had no food. There was no apology, and no customer service. I have now received a refund from groupon and will not be returning to cafe Ethos.

Staff were rather pushy. I was waiting for a friend to arrive but food was delivered to the table as soon as I sat down. Cakes were shop bought Mr Kipling. Was not offered a choice of tea but two pots of rather weak tea were delivered to table before my friend arrived. Wouldn't book again as didn't feel it was a place we were welcomed

Great little cafe! Stopped in for a beer and dinner, but kitchen was closed. The waiter took pity on our hunger and served us delicious toast potatos so we had something to snack n.

It was good value on a groupon deal and the staff werr lovely and very attentive. . Homemade jam was delicious. However other cakes were shop bought and nothing special. Sandwiches were ok especially the smoked salmon and cream cheese but the others had parma hsm and rocket(quite dry) and ham and cheese. Overall it was ok value for money wise but I wouldnt personally go bavk.

Lovely tucked away place to eat pizza was really nice and the garlic bread was amazing. Staff were friendly and the place was small. I would prefer this to eating at prezzos.

Purchased a couple of Groupon vouchers to make an unplanned trip away a little cheaper-pizza and Prosecco and Afternoon Tea for four of us (2 adults/2 teenagers). The environment was clean, comfortable and welcoming and the staff were absolutely lovely. The food and drinks were delicious and we weren’t rushed. This was such good value for money and we had a really pleasant afternoon there. Honestly cannot recommend enough.

We had a prosecco and pizza for two Groupon voucher. The guy who served us was very pleasant and helpful with our order as I don't eat spicy food. He made a good suggestion for the topping. This was a special treat for me as I was recovering from a major operation. I took one bite and all I could taste was burnt dough. The server took it to the chef who came out to tell me that is how they are always served because of the stonebake oven. It is cooked from the bottom. My husband's pizza however was fine and was easily edible. The chef, Aaron refused to cook me another and never came back. His colleague was very apologetic and when I asked for it back to take a photo the chef,Aaron had thrown it away. I was told to contact Groupon for a refund. Meanwhile I had nothing to eat and we left to buy a sandwich for my lunch. Groupon have been very unhelpful and difficult in arranging a refund which has resulted in 16 emails back and forth. I have to say that the MD of Caffe Ethos tried his best to help me and even sent me an email authorising the refund at my request because Groupon would not do anything without it. We really have never been in a situation like this in an eating establishment and found it difficult to believe. I am still waiting for the refund to my credit card although I have received an email from Groupon to say it is on its way. It might be worth thinking about before you buy a Groupon voucher for Caffe Ethos as they are still selling them.

Had an Afternoon Tea yesterday. Delicious selection of cakes, warm scones with cream and jam and freshly made sandwiches. Friendly staff and service. Highly recommend.

I would not visit this place. Aaron, the chef/barman served me a burnt pizza and refused to replace it. My husband was able to eat his because it was not burnt underneath. Aaron has a real attitude problem unlike his colleague David who served us. He was a very pleasant guy and sympathetic but he could not do anything about it apart from telling me to get a refund from Groupon. I now have had no lunch and very upset to be treated in this manner.

Caffè Ethos must get lots of footfall because it doesn't have much competition in the area. The pizzas are great and so are the cheese dishes, all fairly priced.

We visited the caffe ethos with a voucher from buy a gift . Unfortunately the tea was a massive disappointment. The sandwiches were basic ham, cheese and egg there were scones with cream and little plastic pots of jam but the array of cakes that other diners had described were all from a packet at the local supermarket. Nothing on there was homemade or a treat. We did leave the cakes and overall the experience lasted 30 minutes. Very disappointed with our ‘treat’.

We didn’t even stay ? The menu on line looks amazingly tasty with so many delicious things. It’s a walk out of town ,but we thought it would be worth it. ONLY PIZZAS!!!! They haven’t updated the website and are now only doing pizzas ? So don’t be tempted with the full menu. Restaurant have been open since last May ? COVID is now a poor excuse not to have things updated. They are misleading people.

Visited for a Groupon afternoon tea with prosecco. Although it is down a side street we had no difficulty finding it and the young man behind the counter acknowledged us as soon as we went in. It was explained to us that there would be a short wait whilst everything was prepared and the prosseco was provided at our request whilst we waited. When the food arrived the sandwiches tasted fresh and it was so nice to find alternatives to the usual ham or egg mayonnaise a lot of establishments provide. The scones were still warm and there was a very generous array of cakes, so many in fact that we were kindly provided with boxes to bring the excess away. All in all a very pleasant experience that we will repeat if we get chance.

Wonderful afternoon tea, scones and cakes literally fresh from the oven. With some Italian flavour - pistachio canola, mmmmm. Lovely staff, had a wonderful multicultural chat. Definitely recommend.

Although this restaurant is slightly out of the city centre, it is worth the trip! The staff were very attentive and friendly, we felt very welcomed and were served instantly. We were able to change all items of the menu to fit exactly what we wanted and there was also a vast list alcoholic drinks - something to suit everyone.

Went for a Groupon prosecco afternoon tea. Staff seemed friendly when we arrived. Served us our prosecco and not long after the pots of tea. We waited a bit for the rest. The selection was ample however the sandwiches were made with what seemed like cheap white bread and the egg mayonnaise was still warm and melted the the butter which made them quite unpleasant to eat. The scones were small, dry and hard. The selection of cakes were Mr Kiplings and certainly not homemade, very disappointing indeed. A can of coke was £2.95!
