Lovely place, lovely food, welcoming staff but well too much expensive. For example for the price of pork loin kotlet for two people, I can do shopping and make it at home and I have dinner for whole family for two days with potatoes 🥔 and all salads 🥗 e.t.c...

Added a service charge without asking

The website menu says there is a 10% discount on Mondays and Tuesdays, and they *added* a service charge of 10%. For a group of two people, for very slow service, when it wasn't even busy. Taking liberties. Won't be back

I hadn’t tried Polish food before, but a friend recommended Piwnica, and it did not disappoint. The porcini soup and mushrooms stuffed with Brie were the highlights of the meal. The mains, including gnocchi and chicken cutlets, were delicious, served with ample salad and mashed potatoes. The cucumber in yogurt was also a delight. Definitely give it a try!

The food is really great and there are so many dishes to choose from. There are many modern twists on the dishes I know (chicken Kiev is with cheese, which is something new to me...). Great Silesian dumplings (not sure why they are being called gnocchi in the menu..) with chicken and mushroom. Amazing traditional sheep cheese (oscypek). And apparently a great tartare steak (I am not a fan myself but I was told it was great!). I also like a nice service. The decor is a bit too much for my liking but I guess one should not discuss taste ;) and the music is definitely too much and hurt my ears... booking in advance for the weekend treat is highly recommended.

Wonderful service and great atmosphere to have a nice meal. We ordered plater to shere with mashed potatoes and diffrent types of meet the food was fantastic and cooked to perfection. Extremely high quality ingredients and flavouring was outstanding. Had a wonderful time and would definitely recommend!

One of the best Polish restaurants in Reading area. You can try Polish beer & authentic cuisine. Highly recommended. Staff are nice , food was tasty.

Great place, great portions, great service. Probably third time here and still amazing. Lady at the till was so caring and welcoming, felt like being in a tavern in Poland. She recommended the potato pancakes with goulash and incredible. I have to say I didn’t personally enjoy the pork spread starter, but my partner did, so just my taste. Thanks you! We’ll be back :)

Lovely food and friendly staff. We were there early on a Tuesday evening so got there at a quieter time. But book ahead if going on busy nights and the weekend to be safe. Will definitely return when next in Reading. I didn’t have the lamb but it looked amazing.

Hello . Unfortunately, this is not what I expected considering the price, the quality of the food was very poor :( . I don't know why the waitress asked how well the meat should be done, since half of it was raw and there was blood pouring out, it was disgusting, and half was very well done. As for the boletus sauce, there must be mushrooms in it to call it boletus sauce :( I don't know why there are so many stars as the food was disgusting :(

An authentic Polish restaurant with delicious food. The menu has a good selection without being overwhelming and my partner and I were debating over many options as lots sounded appealing. We settled on sharing dumplings and my partner had the breaded pork cutlet and I ordered the slow cooked lamb leg. The lamb was cooked to perfection and the gravy added a depth of flavour that complemented the meat. The potato gratin was a great accompaniment and there was a good selection of steamed vegetables - nice and simple to go along with what is a big meal. Everything we ordered had huge portions. The only downside to our experience was that the restaurant was very busy with a big party in the same seating area as us. So this made for a rather loud and busy dining experience. Nonetheless we were pleased they were able to accommodate us with little notice! Would definitely visit again if back in Reading!

It’s the best place for having truly Slavic homemade food. Portions are huge. All food is simply delicious 🤤 I’m dreaming to go back there to have another meal 🥘 It’s all reminds me of Ukraine as well as we have very very similar dishes. Anyways, you should really try it out if you never been there.

First time visiting Piwnica, but definitely not the last. As you enter you’re welcomed by a Polish themed folklore atmosphere, and a very clean space. The staff were super friendly and represent true Polish hospitality. The food was absolutely fantastic, by far the best Placek po Węgiersku (potato pancake with goulash) I’ve had ever. Freshly baked apple pie with ice cream for dessert also stole the show. Amazing restaurant, will definitely be returning!

What a great find... It was our first visit, but definitely not the last. So many delicious things on their menu and everything we had was absolutely brilliant. Prepared fresh and you can taste that!

Incredible place. Every item on the menu tastes delicious. Chef is a culinary genius. Ambiance and decor is amazing. Polish music is lovely. Exceptional staff who always make you feel welcome and go out of their way to make sure everybody is looked after. Always attentive, friendly, efficient, helpful, polite, infact can’t say enough good things about the waitresses. Great parking and location. Hope they might open another restaurant as this place is incredible and they would do so well in any town in the U.K. So authentic and just truly wonderful. A must to visit if you’re in Reading. P.s I love this place because it represent Poland and all the great polish people. We are very lucky in reading to have a big polish community. His resteraunt is amazing. Good indoor and outdoor seating and as above all excellent. Poland is great. Poland is amazing. We love Poland. P.p.s this place is great inside. All the people are enjoying polish food and chatting and chilling. The staff are working hard. It is such a shame I can’t have the polish food due to too many syns. I did used to like the polish water but I don’t think they can get it anymore. Which is a shame. I’m not sure how you would get water from Poland.🇵🇱 P.p.p.s Also I couldn’t really find my way but the nice polish waitress showed me the way. Thank you. The waitresses are very smiley and helpful. P.p.p.s Now I have moved inside. And there are polish and british people enjoying the restaurant. There is nice polish music. The decor is all from Poland. 🇵🇱 P.p.p.p.s the manager is here and she is a very nice person like all the staff. P.p.p.p.s the chicken salad is really good. I’m not sure how many syns it is but it is good. I just wish I could have traditional polish food. P.p.p.p.p.s the polish language sounds really nice. I like it a lot. P.p.p.p.p.p.ps the chef is here and he is working hard in the kitchen. P.p.p.p.p.p.p.p.s they also do take aways. Which are very nice. The polish flag is flying. As you can see in the picture. Would have been a 5 star but slow to come back after the first course and then they had run out of desserts. However, the food is do delicious you'll want to keep coming back!

If it weren't for the fact that there is very nice service and a quite pleasant atmosphere, it would certainly not even be 3 stars. I can recommend the broth, although the portion is more for a child, the whipped potatoes were also very good. The żurek is tasty, although a bit too sour for me, but it would certainly be just right for most people. Unfortunately, the second course left too much to be desired. The breaded chicken breast was over-fried, the breading was dark, the meat itself was devoid of spices in some places, and in some the amount of them was exaggerated, I managed to eat 1/3 of them. Mashed potatoes... here, very tasty, but there were also small baked potatoes on the plate, heavy with oil and a strange taste, there is no mention of such a variety in the menu. I wasn't tempted to eat more than half a potato. The salad set is unfortunately 3/5. You can do better. Silesian dumplings... I don't recommend them, you have to know how to make them. Now let's move on to the prices, because if a cutlet with potatoes costs £17, I expected a tasty dish. When I was offered sauce for the dumplings, I didn't think I would have to pay extra for the sauce - as much as £4. Unfortunately, the sauce was tasteless. I don't have a refined taste, but the food should be tasty, evenly seasoned, not burnt and priced appropriately. I'm sorry that I have to give a low review to this Polish restaurant. Maybe it was a one-time mistake in terms of tasteless food, but the prices are definitely too high. The bill was over £60 for good broth, OK sour soup, two tasteless chicken breasts, a set of salads and two cans of cola. You can do better! More than half of the food remained on the plates, the waitress out of politeness did not ask if I liked it, which I thanked because I was already disgusted enough.

This was my first visit to the restaurant and I have to say I was absolutely delighted. It’s got a great big carpark which is very helpful once you’ve worked out how to find it. Very welcoming staff and an extensive menu of traditional dishes. This is hearty food and I asked for a small portion but we’re still presented with a massive plate, full of beef goulash and wonderful mashed potatoes. Finished off with the apple crumble which was served with a really nice ice cream. I absolutely recommend this it’s a lovely place.

Cool highlander atmosphere, colorful waitresses' outfits with traditional patterns, new menu, lively music (there could be just a little more than 5 songs on repeat). A large beer garden with a roof, decorated similarly to the interior, a large parking lot next to it, the possibility of taking away, friendly service, always hot and fresh dishes prepared on site. Sometimes you can listen to live music, clean toilets, a mirror to look at yourself, ladies! I have been recommending it for many years.

Very nice restaurant. Great dumplings and soups. Atmosphere reminds me a mountain part of Poland. It's kind of "Tavern" look like. I just think about little details like amazing cutlery sets! And finally first ever local in UK who serve coke without ice! 😎 Bit shame one on the ceramic horses had broken leg and the toilet wasn't very impressive. About food - egg in the soup was precooked earlier so was cold. But I fully understand as every single Polish home have different preferences and I can accept it with no much fuss. I love the traditional ceramic plates but unfortuanetly they where badly dented probably they are just so old piece of the place or maybe someone. The full experience worth all stars.

It’s my first time in Piwnica. It’s been a goal of mine to eat here. The place is lovely, decorated with unique ornaments and the interior feels like you’re in a cabin which is really unique. It’s the festive season so there were Christmas decorations. We were seated in an area where it was really dim. I did not like it, because it felt like it was really dark. It was in between the bar area and the “main area” where the Christmas tree was located. We ordered Chicken with cheese and pineapple, BBQ ribs with chips and coleslaw salad and also Pork Hock. The chicken was good, balanced with cheese and pineapple and the serving was massive! The BBQ ribs were soft and tasty! The flavour was rich and succulent. The Pork Hock was also tender, and boy, we were surprised by the size of it! The staff were also okay, the guy asked us how was everything and it was only him who felt really friendly among the staff. 👍🏻

DELICIOUS! Tasty Polish food! Dumplings mix - 12 pieces in 4 flavors, it's hard to choose your favorites. Perfectly seasoned dumpling fillings. Potato pancakes with goulash! Perfect pancakes - not too fatty and a large mountain of meat! Additionally, I got boletus sauce for the dumplings - which was delicious with pieces of boletus mushrooms - I could eat it with a spoon :) like soup! Delicious ! The service was very nice and friendly :) It's worth coming back to such places ;)

Very good sour rye soup, the main courses were also ok. The salads for the main courses were a disaster. Bringing the bill with the terminal in hand at the same time, not giving even a minute to get acquainted, is also a minus

It is the most delicious food in Reading, UK. A cozy atmosphere, with soft music, is ideal for chatting and eating quietly. It's delicious Polish food. Getting there is a bit complicated as you have to walk two blocks inward from King's road. The entrance is not lit at night. As for the food, we found that the main dishes are quite "generous" (they serve large portions). The wait time for the food was approximately 10 minutes. Recommended.

Been a few times with my partner and it's absolutely incredible. Portion sizes are massive and the food is absolutely incredible! Very friendly staff who give recommendations. Incredible value foroney as well.

We went on a Friday evening and there was 5 of us. There was a live band playing jazz and it was amazing. Food was soo good we got the sharing platter and and few other things and we all sort of shared everything. But there was a lot of food like a lot, there was lots left over so its great value of money!!! Service was fast and they were all lovely.

A true hidden gem in Reading. One of the few! A very warm, welcoming and homely atmosphere complements the warm, hearty and generously proportioned food on offer, and all very reasonably priced. All of the above is a rarity these days! Very recommended.

Excellent! Perhaps the best restaurant in Reading. Piwnica has immediately entered into our rotation of Reading dinner spots. It’s authentic, has character, and the food is outstanding. All service was amazing. It’s a shame there aren’t more regional restaurants like this in Reading and all over England.

Nice restaurant with Polish cuisine

It is an unusual place in the basement of the polish community center, but very welcoming. We had the Goulash and roast Pork. Both were delicious and the waitress was very friendly.

Absolutely fantastic Polish Restaurant with excellent authentic food. If your looking for something slightly different to your normal italian, greek chain etc, you must try this. Definitely a place for a romantic evening.

I do have to say that having there a few times now, the quality, taste and flavour of the never so far disappointed. Absolutely the same can be said for the service - the ladies have always been polite, attentive and served a nice smile on their faces. I have a couple of points to raise though, first about the decor -it could with a little revamp and brightening, and more importantly inclusion of other elements of Polish folklore (unfortunately it's another place that focuses solely on Tatra mountains, Zakopane etc.) Secondly, the menu could be updated every now and then, as it seems to be pretty much standard classics. All in all, it's a nice place to eat and spend a few hours.

Lovely restaurant in the heart of Reading. Great weekly motorcycle meet spot. Food was great, their steak on the lava stone was amazing however be careful as the stone is very hot and splatters fat everywhere, had my t-shirt covered in oil 😅

Wow. What a hidden gem in Reading. I went to Krakow at Christmas this year, and I immediately felt like I was transported back there. The wooden interior with authentic polish trinkets, along with the good portion sizes and non pretentious food meant that the atmosphere inside was so fun and warm. Lovely blonde waitress was very friendly and helped us with understanding the menu. Please support this brilliant place. We used the eat out to help out government scheme, so normally it may have been a little on the pricy side but it did not matter in the slightest!

This is literally a hidden gem! We had to walk away from the town centre and finally down a terraced street and through a car park but it was well worth it. The interior is fab and very on brand, even has a small seated area outside which would be great to enjoy their wide selection of drinks. When ordering there are only two options which is vegan on the menu. I was recommended to go for the mushroom dumplings with sauerkraut, which was absolutely delicious and the portion size was very generous. All the other dishes that we were served went down extremely well and similarly were served in large portions. For non vegans there really is something for everyone. The drink selection was really good, you could easily come here for them alone. Our server was very attentive and helped me effectively when I enquired about vegan options. Overall this is a brilliant restaurant which I would definitely advise anyone to try. 😁
